Stop Saying Being Rich Isn’t Awesome

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 11:44 AM PST

Of sick of people squashing the dreams of young entrepreneurs, saying that being rich isn't that great and not worth trying.

I know many self made people who could never look back after becoming rich. Are they billionaires? No. But honestly I don't think it matters once you get to a certain point.

Being rich is about freedom. It is about allowing yourself the time and space to do what you truly love. It's about independence. Isn't that the most meaningful pursuit? Will it make you ultimately happy? Will it make you the Buddha? No. But nothing on the material level will. That doesn't mean you shouldn't strive for it.

This could have also been posted in offmychest, but it felt more suited to post it here. Is it worth it trying to make a good life for yourself? IMO hell fucking yeah. So cut the bullshit with "being rich isn't worth it."

If you launch an app and the traction goes through the roof. If you need money to keep things afloat, while it is steadily growing, what would you recommend doing? Family/Friends round or are there other options?

My wife and I are 25 year olds making 100k/year. We have no kids and we both have business degrees & have 35k saved for a house. I feel like once we sign, we will lose our one prime opportunity to build a business & make our money work for us. Are we making a good financial decision?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 12:10 PM PST

Wife and I are 25 years old college graduates with good jobs making 100k to 140k depending on bonuses. We currently have 35k cash that we can utilize. We decided to look for a home and found a property that we both love. We put in an offer but now I feel bad about the decision. Once I started doing the math, I concluded that the interest we would pay throughout the loan is mind-boggling. Assuming a 30-year loan at 4.875 & a 10% down payment, we would pay over $200,000 in interest. This seems absurd to me and makes me think that I am making a bad financial decision. I feel like we can better utilize that money for an entrepreneurial venture instead of being in debt for 30 years.

How did you deal with failing and having to go back to regular 9-5?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 09:03 AM PST

After multiple failures I've had no choice but to find a regular job to keep up with bills.

I just feel so damn down all the time now. I know I need to shake this feeling and stay positive but I can't seem to figure out how to do it.

If anyone here has gone/going through something similar let me know how you dealt with this issue. Thanks.

One is going to be an investor, one is going to invest, teach and be the manager, and the last (me) will be the receptionist, graphic designer and manage the money

How do we split the money between us?

I want to hire a salesman? How would I approach this?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 01:13 PM PST

Hi, I'm currently in the startup phase of my business. I want to hire salesmen, but have little to no experience. I have been running a web design, software development and marketing agency for about a year on my own.

I want to hire and make a plan to hire a sales staff, for inside sales. I can close deals, last year I closed ~$230k for the year. I don't consider myself a good salesmen either but most of my sales are from cold calling. All work is done by me, so most of that money is being saved right now. There is little operation cost, so they can have a decent commission. I allowed myself to take home $40k salary and have enough to provide growth of hiring at least 3-4 businesses. My business also carries no debt.

Most deals are $5k-20k, and leads are generated through cold calling a small business list provided by D&B and attending small business conferences and trade shows.

My idea is a base of $36k for the first 3 months to build a book of business and then put them on draw against a 18% commission.

Does this sound fair or can I get your input?

    Poor sleep holding you back?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 05:27 AM PST

As an entrepreneur do you ever feel that if you could get better sleep you would be more focused, productive, successful?

I know it's something I've identified as a major factor contributing to my daily low energy and lack of drive.

    Anyone else here can relate?

How do I monetize my 25k Instagram account?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 07:02 AM PST

I have a 25k Instagram account in the anime niche. I post facts about different anime. I get an engagement of about 18% and my audience seems to love my content.

There aren't a lot of brands in my niche and I do not want to sell merchandise. Is there a way I can monetize it?

How to avoid being duped by your employees?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 02:08 PM PST

I am thinking about a business which is very simple but depends on the honesty of my employees. The idea is to hire non expert photographers to shoot on public locations and instantly print the photos to sell them on tourists and alike.

How could I prevent them buying the same inexpensive gear and run the business by their own?

    Obtaining a credit card scanner?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 02:05 PM PST

This is a repost from r/startups

I've got the opportunity to be running a merch stand in a month or two's time and need to have a credit card scanner for the sake of non-cash purchases.

Literally all this thing needs to be able to do is capture a purchase and move the funds to my bank account. My company runs an active Stripe account, and I've been recommended to look at some of their products such as the BBPOS Chipper, and the Verifone P400, are they good options?

The problem that I think will arise is the fact that our corporate account is in England, while we operate in Spain. Can they be linked to overseas accounts? Do they have to be bought through a specific retailer?

    Any advice is appreciated!

Anyone looking for an accountability partner to make 2019 the best business year yet?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 05:51 PM PST

    Howdy,
Someone looking for a dedicated business accountability partner who will help you stay on track with your goals? If so, let's help each other out.
I'm a 24-year-old writer who has ghostwritten four Amazon bestsellers for his clients. In the upcoming year, I need accountability with:
    - Starting a copywriting business on the side and scale it to 10K a month.
    - Dedicating at least one hour each day to self-study (reading books, doing courses, etc.)
If you got goals this 2019 as well and are looking for someone to hold you accountable, maybe we can help each other out by doing daily check-ins on WhatsApp or Skype. If you're interested, just reply to this post or drop me a DM.

Using Content from Reddit on Niche Site

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 12:19 PM PST

I was wondering if it's acceptable to write posts like "top 5 X I found online"? I know Buzzfeed and some online publishing companies do this sometimes but it seems to be a grey area. The content is monetized by ads.

It seems like giving credit via their username is the best way to go about it.

Best way to get price for app development?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 12:07 PM PST

I have an app idea and I've written a MVP doc with specific features, mockups, and acceptance criteria. It's about a 15 page doc and I've tried to be as specific as possible about what I want to avoid confusion or feature creep.

I'd like 3 things from the developer - 1) point out areas that are difficult since I'm not a developer; 2) feedback on time to complete 3) price estimate to complete.

What's the best way to get this and how much does it cost to get this done?

A first, second, and third timer at this

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 11:51 AM PST

Hello there and good afternoon. What I just completed is another version of my website for my startup www.THoWH.com. I've been working on this for some time and would like to see if this is user friendly. All constructive advice is welcomed. CONSTRUCTIVE ONLY. Some people on this site are extremely toxic, so if something happened to you over the holiday season and you're angry about it, please don't take it out on me. Anyhow, If you have a project what you want some feedback on, by all means, send it my way.

Some of the things I 've learned about this landing page thingy is that it's a delicate balance between '' What in need on my landing page '' and '' What needs to be on my landing page.'' Anyway, thanks for reading and have a good day!

Best test to gauge how much people will care about a product before writing code?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 11:42 AM PST

    https://www.indiehackers.com/forum/best-test-to-gauge-how-much-people-will-care-about-a-product-before-writing-code-c1f587f2e8

Interesting post from Suhail (Mixpanel founder) about validating a product idea before launch. https://twitter.com/Suhail/status/1079250981232070658

    Some of the best replies:

Process that's worked for us on various products (b2b and b2c):

Build a small email list of 500+ around the topic. Presale to focus groups. Stop and build once 10%+ buy

Find evidence of existing consumption. (This won't work for new consumer startups trying to steal hours off of Netflix/Instagram/Twitter, but is generally is solid in my experience. e.g. Pre Mixpanel I'm sure they saw lots of frustrated GA users and were one themself)

Ryan Hoover at PH used Dropbox Paper to MVP http://producthunt.com/makers.

For B2B, give customers a contract and see if they will sign (don't let them actually sign tho)

For consumers run ads and check CTR. Build a landing page and ask for "early access" signups, and ask them to fill out a survey.

    Run a Kickstarter.

Mock it up in Invision and speak to CEOs of our ideal clients at small mfg conferences. They all told me the same exact thing (it was their biggest problem) and all the non-scalable ways they were spending $$ to address it.

What other ways have you seen or used to validate a product before coding?

How to stay motivated when you are already the half way there?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 11:15 AM PST

If you already have achieved something, be half way where you wanted to be, you have shown it to your haters so there aren't none anymore in your life, I just feel completely empty. How to still be in the mood "I have to kick it" like in the very beginnings when I had nothing?
