Fired and denied prize after winning work costume contest [AL] Posted: 02 Nov 2018 03:58 AM PDT I work in a large office setting in Alabama. It's not a call center but has a similar environment. Officially, there isn't a uniform and you can wear whatever as long as it isn't against the dress code, but several of my managers are religious and very "southern judgey" ladies who harass certain people in the office over the way they look, either with inappropriate unwanted compliments or overly judgmental comments. I'm a very tall guy who works out and I've gotten both sides of it (the latter because I have very long hair and they call me a hippie). I know a lot of female coworkers who've gotten much worse because of VERY conservative clothing, and in the time I've worked here I've seen multiple complaints to the HR about comments made to them which have ended in them being fired in the next week. Being harassed over clothing/body stuff is a big topic among my coworkers and it has made for a terrible office environment. On the glassdoor for our company 75% of the reviews specifically reference this aspect of working here. A few days prior to the 31st, I found out my work was doing a costume contest. I had a somewhat high effort costume I was reusing from a comic convention, and I decided to wear it again, not really expecting to win. My workplace has over 100 employees and the top prize for winning included $500 in cash and several gift cards. It is worth noting that the costume is not in any way sexual or inappropriate for work, or more specifically from our dress code. If you are curious, the character I dressed up as was Gonta Gokuhara, and if you google him nothing is inappropriate about his design/against our dress code save for being barefoot, and I broke character for that by wearing sandals. The most inappropriate thing I can think of is that there were fake bug toys in the bug box. Virtually no one is our office dressed up, which I wasn't expecting but it made sense. It was me, one new girl who wore a kitty ear headband and a set of cheap fairy wings, and several of my female managers, all of whom went all out. Everyone in my office has strong resentment for our managers for reasons mentioned above and I ended up winning the vote because of it. (The headband girl won 2nd). I was told that I'd be sent my prize via direct deposit yesterday. I did not, and instead got an email explaining that I was being terminated for abuse of the office dress code. When I called my manager for clarification, she said that my costume clearly violated dress code. After I asked what rule it was that I broke she told me that "I knew what it was" and was hung up on. I'm young and I've honestly never dealt with a level of blatant unprofessionalism in the workplace on this level before and I really don't know what to do. Do I have rights on this? They can't seriously do that right? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Nov 2018 03:26 PM PDT Long story short, I googled myself and saw the first result was a link to a webpage for a company called MyLife. It's a little jarring to see that a company I've never even heard of has a profile on me with my pictures, my hometown, political party, and phone number. It's a little more disturbing to see them falsely claiming that I have a criminal record, which is the first result for anybody who Googles my name. It's not that big of a deal, but they seem to have this "alert" on everyone's profile saying that "[insert name] DOES have Arrest or Criminal Records." I know anybody with more than two brain cells would realize that this website is a scam, but out of general curiousity, I was wondering if this would technically be considered libel, considering my record is perfectly clean save for a single traffic ticket for an expired registration sticker. [Edit] I'm in New Jersey. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2018 12:05 AM PDT I finished my degree a little bit ago but was asked by my current employer if I could finish out a project I was very involved in. The project is coming to an end and have been looking for a job that pays better and where I can actually begin using what I've been going to college for. I made it to the third interview that was directly with the head of the division on Wednesday and thought it went extremely well. The previous interviews also went very well and I thought I had this job in the bag until Wednesday, the interview went pretty well with a few odd questions thinking back on it but I brushed it off ass him trying to see what my homelife was like and see if I was available to work OT to meet deadlines etc. Questions along the line of "Do you gave a girlfriend or fiance at home?" "No, but I do have a significant other and he's entirely understanding of the importantance of finishing up a project on time and correctly" "You have a boyfriend? You seemed very masculine, very well let's move on" and more basic questions ending in "We have a lot of office/family events, would your boyfriend be joining us?" "Yes, of course he would if he was available". Now I brushed this off mostly due to the age of this man, he's in his 50s and while people can be really understanding about gay relationships sometimes older individuals just word things a bit differently and not entirely "PC" but generally mean well overall. Today I received a call from HR thanking me for my time however I am not being offered a position at this time. I tried to do the most professional thing and ask them what their policies are on reapplying within the company for other positions etc in the field because I really do want to work there, feel like I'd be a fit blah blah blah. HR was really nice and explained all their policies and then gave me the head of the divisions email so I could connect with him a bit more. Okay! Great, I can reach out and ask him about other positions or possibilities in the future and network a bit. So I sent him an email earlier in the day thanking him for his time and politely asking about other positions and very nicely asking is there anything I could have improved on or can work on currently to make myself more suited for the company. What I got back was quite different than I was expecting. He very nicely answered everything then at the end in regards to my question about being more suited to the company sent back this "Your sexuality may be an issue with the atmosphere of the office environment I have helped create here. Thank you for your interest in (company) however I will not be able to have you work in my department now or in the future." I sent him an email to his company email and received the response from his company email. I've never been actually really discriminated against due to being gay in such a way in a professional setting. I'm not super flamboyant or shout out that I am gay at every turn, I'm quite masculine and it really throws people off when they find out that I'm gay. Do I contact a higher up in the company about this? I'm perfectly suited for what they were looking for, right experience and degree and even know a handful of the people I would be working with and they sent emails to HR recommending me. I feel he directly didn't hire me because I am gay. What are my options here? This is a large company that's multinational and located in Seattle, WA. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2018 11:59 AM PDT I'm facing ten charges stemming from an arson that was committed in March. Four of them are felonies. My "super lawyer" has cost me and my family $25000 already. He wants to avoid a trial. He wants me to plead guilty to one of the Arson charges THAT I DID NOT COMMIT. He says it's a great plea deal and I need to take it. How can it be a good plea deal if I'm pleading guilty to a crime I did not commit? I'm feeling cornered and hopeless. I've been told to get a second opinion and I intend to do that but where do I begin? I'm willing to spend more money but I don't want that money to go to waste. [link] [comments] |

[Update] Raped by father and didn’t know whether to tell. Posted: 01 Nov 2018 07:52 PM PDT It's not resolved but I did want to give an update and thank the LA community. I called the sexual assault hotline soon after it was suggested to me. We talked about a ton, including me going to an ER for a rape kit that night, but it was too much all at once. But long story short I did end up going - one of my professors who I'm pretty close with noticed I was really not ok so I told her. And she convinced me to let her take me to the hospital. There was actually some evidence of trauma despite what I said in my last post. But the hospital and my professor's first concern was really my mental health. I reached a point of being acutely suicidal and fearing myself which is why I asked for help in the first place. So I'm taking it slow and getting help. I haven't gone to the police yet with my identity but I want to, after I talk to my mom (who I still think won't believe me but I need to give her a chance). I can't risk this happening to another girl. But I'm trying to sort out my housing for the rest of the year first and I want to be mostly moved out before I drop any bombs on my parents - I just feel safer this way (I know a ton of my thoughts rn aren't that logical). If I work some extra hours and get a good sublet deal, I could conceivably pay for rent and my last semester of school on my own. And there's no way I'm not getting that degree. Thank you for those who supported me as well as for the tangible advice. I think they are saving my life. [link] [comments] |
I work at a gym and a member is really starting to scare me Posted: 02 Nov 2018 11:45 AM PDT (Texas) Hello everyone, I am 18 (female) and work the closing shift at a gym. For the past month, there has been a member who persistently tries to talk to me while I'm working and after I close/lock up. I am very petite and feel very intimidated by him. He is in his mid 30's and has asked me for my phone number many times (obviously I say no, staff are unable to give their personal information out.) and also brings me flowers and candy. He has also called the gym during morning hours asking if I'm working and what times I'll be there (obviously the opener declines to give him any information, thankfully!). I work the closing shift at my gym which means I arrive at 5:30 P.M., lock up at 11 PM, and then stay a half hour after for cleaning/invoicing tasks. Unfortunately since it's a relatively small gym, all our membership sales staff leave at about 9 PM and our general manager generally works 9-5. I am the only one working at the gym come 9:15-9:30. A few days out of the week, he has waited outside the gym for me and has asked me to get a drink with him. Obviously I'm under age. And he gets very close to me which makes me feel extremely uncomfortable and nervous. I have told my GM and other staff about him, but they say they know him and that he is harmless. It doesn't feel that way and it makes me very upset to know my concerns are just being dismissed. Is this worth going to the police about or am I over reacting? Would the police take me seriously? My coworkers are making me feel like I'm making a fuss about this but I am always afraid to walk to my car. Thank you very much in advance for any and all suggestions and advice. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2018 08:36 AM PDT Hello all, I live in the state of RI. Earlier this year, my local Police dept started a program for a few days around the 4th of July, to pull over "Good drivers" to reward them with a gift card. I just read they plan to run this same program again on Thanksgiving. My question, is this legal? I was under the impression that an officer can only pull you over for a violation. Reading between the lines here, it seems that this is a thinly veiled plan to give them permission to pull over anyone they want, under the guise of a reward, to try and catch drunk drivers, expired inspection stickers and/ or registrations. Just looking for some legal feedback. I live in a small town, so even if this was illegal, I'm not sure what I'd be able to do about it without painitng a target on my back for other problems. Work wants to install "Anti texting" boxes in personal vehicle Posted: 02 Nov 2018 06:25 AM PDT Work is wanting to install a "Cellcontrol" box in my personal vehicle (all employees I should note). The only thing they pay for is gas as I do drive it around during work hours, I own the car in my name and pay the insurance. The state is Texas, something like this concerns me not because I text but because its my personal vehicle and its staying in the car, not just during work hours (they have stated it will only be on during my work shifts). This is an alternate account as I do not want someone who possibly works for the company to know I am asking. I am paranoid about tracking devices, for personal reasons, the gps will be turned off according to work. I would appreciate any thoughts, concerns, documents I can read up on. Thank you. Sister started a go fund me page to divorce her husband. We think it’s a scam. Posted: 02 Nov 2018 06:05 AM PDT So my sister has a history of being less than honest. As a matter of fact, she can be quite manipulative. She started a go fund me page in order to leave her abusive husband. She's asking for around $12,000 to cover attorney fees and other expenses. If he is truly abusive, I would do anything to help her out. However, myself and the rest of the family have some trust issues with her. She's blown things out of proportion before. Her only proof is that he sent her a picture of their crying baby in order to get her to come home. Anyway, my question is does it really cost that much to hire an attorney to divorce your husband? Also, aren't there free resources for women who need to get out of a bad relationship? We live in the north east, and she is in Texas, so it is very hard for any of us to go and verify what is really going on. This is her third baby daddy, and we are beginning to see a bit of a pattern. Thanks [link] [comments] |
[Canada] Mom stuck with dad's failed business that racked up tens of thousands in losses Posted: 02 Nov 2018 05:36 AM PDT My apologies for the very long post, I would really appreciate any input. This issue is in Ontario, Canada and affects my mom. So two and a half years ago, my dad decided to open his business as a coffee shop. He wanted to have both his name and my mom's on it, which she agreed to do. He told her he'll take care of the lease for the store even though he doesn't really have a good credit. The business was created as incorporated by the way. She wasn't a fan of the business but she supported him being a loving wife. She helped bake cookies and cakes whenever she had the time since she works as a full time daycare supervisor. Fast forward two years and my dad keeps saying the business is cutting it even and no need to worry. And that it's building up a good customer base and he'll be soon making profits. He used to send half the mortgage payment to their joint account to pay for the house. Three months ago, he didn't deposit the mortgage money. My mom asked him to deposit and he said he'll do it that night after work. But that night he decided not to go back home and slept at the store. He turned off all the security cameras in the store (so we don't know his whereabouts?) and he didn't deposit the money. Of course she gets a NSF charge and she had to dig into her savings account to pay it. She kept trying to contact him on the phone but he kept dodging her by not answering the phone, or complaining the store is very busy. She sent him an email asking again to send her money and why isn't he coming back home, he kept saying weird thing about how everyone in the family wants to ruin his business and that he's giving her the freedom she deserves. Not sure if that's signs of dementia or what. So since she can't afford anything, she decides to sell the house. The house and the mortgage are under both her names by the way. Since it was late in the housing season (early October) she puts it for a low price to make it sell. Me, my wife, my sister and her husband (even though they have a 1 year old kid) spent over a week working over 16 hours everyday repainting and decluttering to make the house presentable. Of course my dad never helped and kept ignoring the emails. We finally put it up for sale and it sold. I took the sale agreement to his store to make him sign it, which he did after complaining about how low the sale price is. I took it back to the real estate agent and everything is finalized. The keys will be handed over this December. While cleaning the house we found out the lease papers he signed 2.5 years ago. We noticed my mom's name in there with a signature that isn't hers which is clearly fraud and also there was a witness signature which makes this even worse. The witness works in the lease office. We found other documents that showed the business wasn't doing well. It's falling behind on the rent and is racking up around 50k in losses. He also had around 20,000 in the store credit card debts as well as 15k personal. My mom started freaking out and called a lawyer to ask what to do, they said she should first do a separation agreement to protect her from the debt collectors in case they come after her since her name is on the business. She fills the forms and signs it. The lawyer says my dad still has to sign it which he of course refused to. He yelled at her and kept saying she ruined his life and that brining in lawyers will cost hundreds of thousands in damages. He asks her to send him his passports as he's fed up with Canada and he wants to go back home (we're Canadian immigrants that came here roughly 15 years ago). She refused and told him to contact the lawyer if he wants them. She's worries he might escape and she'll have to deal with all this on her own. She contacted a business lawyer for a free consultation, who told her there's nothing she can do and that he charges $300 an hour so she can't afford him. She's in distress and doesn't know what to do. She has health issues ranging from blood clots previously in her lungs (she's on blood thinners), bad kidneys, headaches and depression at this point. So I'm asking you reddit on what steps can she do, finance or law wise. She doesn't make much money and all she wants is to protect herself for the short term for now. What can she do at this point? Posted: 01 Nov 2018 08:31 PM PDT PA First of all I want to say thank you for all the advice you guys/gals gave me when I first posted. Upon arriving to court, the judge was talking to: the Sargent that was present and the girls arrest, the girl in question, and her family. They all left and went into a separate room. After waiting ~10 minutes, the Sargent returned to the waiting room to let me know that I could leave as the girl was going to take a plea deal, and had I not come the case would have gone to trial (I'm assuming her and her family were hoping I did not show up, as a few people in the original thread suggested might happen). So overall it was a waste of my time. [link] [comments] |
Bought mispriced laptops + monitors for 20$, now Walmart is making excuses on why they can't deliver Posted: 02 Nov 2018 08:12 AM PDT Hello Redditors, Yesterday I purchased a couple monitors and laptops that had be mispriced on the Canadian walmart website. Basically I bought 2 laptops for 15$ each and 3 monitor or 20$. Great find right? Well, I was trying not to get too excited over this steal, because I figured they would catch on quick and cancel the orders. It wasn't until after the orders had been confirmed and my payment processed that I received a very weird email from Walmart customer service saying that the monitors I ordered were defective. Yeah right. Here's a copy past of the email. It looks like it may have been google translated or something. Overall it's just sloppy. " Dear customer, Thank you for your support for our company. Our colleague decide to send your item out before. But very Sorry to inform you, we tested it , and found this batch's products has some quality problem. We finally withdraw the shipping. We have connected our supplier. So we temporarily can't send you this item. We have cancelled the order and applied for the refund to you,pls check your account in 3-5 days. Really sorry for all the troubles for you. I think you can choose a better product later. Best wishes " For the laptops, which were a separate order I got a much more official looking email from walmart saying they had run out of stock (even though there was stock left when I ordered) and that my order would be cancelled in 3 days if they couldn't get more in stock. Is there anything I can do in this case? Do they have any legal obligations to me? Keep in mind I'm in Canada Thanks in advance for any advice. TLDR; Bought laptops and monitors for 20$ as they were mispriced on the Canadian walmart website, now they are saying those products are defective/out of stock to avoid actually following though with the order. Can I do anything? [link] [comments] |
Walmart assistant manager searched my bag without my consent (Arizona) Posted: 02 Nov 2018 07:07 AM PDT **tl;dr is at the bottom** I don't steal things. In fact, I just bought a couple hundred dollars of groceries at WalMart. Because I took Lyft to and from the store (and because I like my ice cream and other perishables to stay cold) I brought with me a large insulated bag - that I happen to have bought at that same WalMart a couple of weeks ago for that very purpose. While doing my shopping I loaded all the refrigerated and frozen food items into the large bag which was sitting in my shopping cart. I checked out at a manned register where I placed the full bag on the conveyor belt and the cashier emptied, scanned and [very neatly!] repacked the contents of the insulated bag, and scanned everything else as usual. As I was walking toward the checkout I saw the door watcher guy making the universal "show me your receipt" sign. Now, I am pretty sure that I technically don't have to produce anything, and that their only recourse if I refuse is to detain me and immediately call the police *if* they are confident that I have stolen something [see above; I don't steal things] but I don't particularly mind showing my receipt. After all, I - along with other people who pay for our cheap crap - all cover the cost of shoplifting by way of higher prices. I'm onboard with consensual countermeasures. But this time was different. There was another person there, someone who I recognized to be the store's assistant manager. And he was strangely positioned to not quite be fully blocking my way, but uncomfortably close to it. It took me longer than an instant to find my receipt, and I took the wrong receipt out of my pocket at first. (I'll save you the story, but the reason I had a second receipt is because - you guessed it - I had paid for stuff.) I saw the manager move to position himself further between me and the exit as I got my hilariously-long receipt out. The manager guy takes it from the receipt-checker door guy before the door guy can even look it over. "What's in the bag?" "Huh? What bag? [I have a shopping cart full to the top with bags, and I seriously didn't know what the hell he was talking about] The manager points to the large, zipped shut, insulated bag. "My perishable groceries. Look at the receipt. All of the frozen and refrigerated items are in there." "Do you mind if I have a look?" "Uh---" [The assistant manager then unzipped my bag and looked in it, He obviously only saw the groceries I had just bought, because there was nothing else in the bag. I'm pretty sure that he moved the topmost items around a bit to fully see the bag's contents (though I'm not certain about that - I was a bit stunned). He then zipped my bag shut, handed me my receipt back, and said nothing but stepped out of my way.] "Hey, in the future I would appreciate it if you would wait for me to answer your question before you start opening any of my things." "You're in my store on your way out. We have a right to look anywhere we want to." "No. You --- " [The manager guy cuts me off and - I couldn't really believe this - attempts to *scare me into leaving* by saying, "Look. If you'd prefer, I will call the police and have *them* come search the bag." [WTF?] "You do not have the right to search my property without my consent. That's what *you* just did." To which he responds, "Or how about I have the cops come over here and search *you!" [He motions for me to continue on my way out.] "What's your name?" [He ignores me, not even making eye contact.] "What is your name?" [Ignores me.] Amazingly, the Walmart associate manager stood there, right in front of the older Indian door guy, having covered his name tag, and refused to tell me his name. I asked him a couple of more times and he *finally* tells me, after I say something about corporate going to love this. (It was his real name. I had seen him there in the past and had heard it before, though I wouldn't have recalled it without him saying it.) At this point I am mildly pissed off, but I also have a Lyft driver coming to meet me in less than ten minutes. I decide to try and deal with this, and tell him. "Please don't leave the store. I am going to call the police." He replies, "You know, the cops are outside. I can just get them if you want." "Okay, please do." [Of course, the cops he works with all day. Whatever.] Turns out the cops were in fact right outside, arresting a shoplifter. I did get around to explaining what had happened to two police officers, who said that they didn't know how the law works with regard to searches on private property. At first they told me that because it's private property, the store can make its own rules and do whatever they want. I responded by asking "So can they beat me up, then?" After another minute or so of conversation it became pretty obvious to me that they were aware that the store's options do not include searching anyone they want. One of the cops seemed actually upset to hear that the assistant manager had tried to intimidate me by threatening to call the police and have the police search me. (Which, as I had suspected, they would not do.) They told me that I could talk to corporate about it (duh), and said that they would speak with the manager about it right then -- at which point one of them went inside the store, the other drove off to a call, and my Lyft showed up. I don't have high hopes for whatever conversation may have happened between the cop and manager. After all, the manager obviously knew that he had crossed a line. What if anything can or should I do here? tl;dr: Walmart assistant store manager unzipped and looked inside of my personal bag after asking permission but without actually obtaining my consent, and when I politely requested that in the future he wait for me to consent before searching my property he tried to intimidate me by threatening to call the police and have them search me and my property. The cops were obviously not going to search me, but were mostly uninterested and told me that I could let corporate know. [link] [comments] |
Teacher’s aide posted pictures on SM without permission Posted: 02 Nov 2018 09:10 AM PDT A few weeks ago FB gave me a friend suggestion of one of the teacher's aides at my daughter's preschool. When I clicked on her profile, I noticed she had posted pictures of the students publicly on her personal page. We have signed paperwork with the school that we didn't want them putting our daughter's picture on their FB page, their website, and in any printed advertising material. I mentioned the FB page to the director. The teacher's aide was fired shortly after. Last night I started getting approval notifications that I had been tagged in about 30 pictures. When I looked, the teacher's aide had basically done a picture dump of likely everything she had on her phone of my daughter's preschool class. There's around 150 pictures total. She listed full name (first, middle, last) & full birthdate of every student in the class as part of the caption on the pictures. I talked to the director about it first thing this morning, but they didn't make the aide delete any pictures as part of her firing. The director is not sure they have any legal action against the aide but is checking. My husband has a pretty public facing career, so this is information that we have never allowed to be released. We've never posted our daughter's middle name online, I have not allowed her birthdate to be posted online going so far as to not announce her birth day of and backdating that announcement to the 1st of the birth month, and we've only allowed certain professional pictures to be posted as "friends only". Do I have any legal recourse to get the former aide to at least remove the identifying information if I can't force her to remove the pictures? Texas. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2018 11:21 AM PDT The new website they want us to pay rent with charges over 40$ to pay using the website. Can they legally do this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2018 08:20 AM PDT Last month I paid My rent in full on the first like I do monthly. A week after doing so my old landlords aunt called and said we had to move my landlord decided to sale the home. So my family found a new place and moved out on the October 15th. Now the old landlord is threatening to take me to court for missed rent for November and damages to her home. But when we left there was none except for what was there when we moved in. The house was in bad shape over a year ago when we moved in. The roof was falling in, floors bowed in the middle tiles missing in the bathroom, and in some rooms the floor was pulling apart from The walls. She promised to fix all of these and didn't do any of it. We had electricial problems like crazy the breaker box kept going out. Her stepfather always came to the house to fix those so he was in there a lot. You would think if we had busted holes in the walls he would have them seen them like she claimed! So now it's November and she's claiming we owe her rent. I told Her we left when we were told to and she got mad claims she's taking me to court for her rent money and damages that we didn't do. Only after she found out we moved did she claim we ruined her house not once during the year we lived in it did she make a accusation. Kept saying we were good renters up until this so my question is what should I do? I know I don't owe her any money but she's richer than me so any advice would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Nov 2018 05:36 PM PDT My husband works at a corporate complex. About a year or two ago, my husband was driving into work with the employers complex when one of the lawn care workers (on a riding mower) ran out in front of the car without warning. My husband tried to stop but there was not adequate stopping distance as the mower cut in front by only a few feet. The guy was hit and injured. When the police came they took a report. There was a witness to the accident that reported that that the lawn mower was struck after running into the street without yielding. My husband did not violate any traffic laws and the report was found in favor of my husband. The lawn care company held business insurance by the same company that employs husband - they also found the lawn mower to be a 100 percent liable. The owner of lawn care agency paid my husband out and the car was totaled. A few days ago, I was served with a lawsuit. My husband is being sued for negligence. I, his wife, and the owner of the vehicle am being sued for allowing my husband access to the vehicle and thus allowing negligence to take place. I am also being sued for failure to inspect the brakes prior to the access provision. There are other suits along with this, the corporate complex, the city, the insurance company etc. I am very scared and nervous. The lawnmower guy is injured and we will have to face a jury. We have not taken action on the suit yet. What is the typical process for working this type of lawsuit? - what should we expect? Illinois [link] [comments] |
I Know an 11 Year Old Child Who Lives in a Car Posted: 02 Nov 2018 08:52 AM PDT Is this illegal in anyway? He is a kid without any home, he just lives in his moms car. He takes all of his showers at a gym, doesn't brush his teeth, I doubt he goes to the dentist or doctor, and he is just in really bad shape. Should this be reported to cps or what? [UPDATE] I just sent an email to CPS regarding the child and if I should get more info or leave it be. Thank you all for the suggestions because I am genuinely concerned for this child. I am a child myself (13) so he seems to be open with me and I do have evidence for this. (Cuts his hair at the gym, washes himself with soap he finds, and just goes into this random parking lot when he leaves). Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2018 01:24 PM PDT This school has roughly 800 people so 400 are dudes. The only other bathroom we can use is the nurses bathroom. Is 400 people sharing a single bathroom legal? This is the second time they have done this in the past week. Edit: Highschool FYI [link] [comments] |
Is it legal to pretend to be someone else in order to find out non-sensitive information? Posted: 02 Nov 2018 04:49 AM PDT Long story short - I work as a freelance penetration tester, got called in for a job and the ceo said he'd pay me within a week, 2 weeks went by so I went down to their office and they've moved and won't pick up my calls now. I was considering setting up a website that looks like it represents a company in the same industry and then email him asking for a meeting in his new office and then once I have that I'll go down and confront him over the missing payment. Just to clarify - I will only be looking for location information, there will be no credential harvesting or any exploitation (hacking) etc, only social engineering. [link] [comments] |
Sorority is sending me bill three years later. Posted: 02 Nov 2018 08:03 AM PDT So I joined a sorority fall of 2013. Had a lot of health issues during winter quarter and ended up withdrawing for the quarter and I let the sorority know of my health issues and that I would not be attending any events or meetings. I didn't know they would still continue billing me regardless of being absent from all events. Anyways I ended up resigning towards the end of the quarter due to my medical issues and they let me know I owed about a grand for the quarter. I didn't pay because I didn't have the funds and didn't care at the time. One year later (2015) they send me an email that they had an oversight and never sent me a letter confirming my owing money to the chapter. I asked them what forms I signed agreeing that I had a legal obligation to the pay the dues. (I don't remember signing anything before starting the sorority). They sent me a pdf of the contract and said it was "electronically signed" although there was no electronic signature or any proof that I received the forms. Anyway I left it on the back burner and didn't end up paying. 3 years later they're sending me the bill again via email (received it yesterday). I honestly thought it would end up in collections by now but I guess I'm lucky that they haven't done that yet. But do I have a case here? Do I need to pay? Is there a statue of limitations (In California)? Can I fight it since there's no proof of me signing any of the forms? [link] [comments] |
Ordered arrest not sure what to do Posted: 02 Nov 2018 07:06 AM PDT Backstory: i had a court date to which i showed up late for. I then went to the public defenders office to find my attorney but she was busy at the time. a lady at the front desk texted my attorney and my attorney told the lady at the front desk to tell me it was just an administrative date and i didnt have to be present and i was allowed to go home so i left. For 2 weeks i called my attorney and she didnt answer, i left voicemails each time. Today i called the front desk instead to find out about my next court date and the lady said i have an order for arrest out. I called my attorney again, still no answer. Whats the best thing to do and what should i not do? [link] [comments] |
Lawyer has sent me bills but hasn't done any work in 4 months for me. Posted: 02 Nov 2018 08:13 AM PDT I'm very frustrated. I sold my business back in July to someone and contacted a lawyer that I'd worked previously with involving my business to help me draw up a bill of sale, as I am carrying the loan for the new owner and we both want it to be clear to protect ourselves in case things don't go well. Initially, the work was to be done before our official announcement on the 1st of July. I was communicated with and asked if it could be pushed back as time wasn't allowing it to be done promptly. The new owner and I were comfortable with that and the work was then supposed to be done sometime in July. July came and went and I hadn't heard anything and I tried calling a few times towards the end of the month as I was going out of the country for a month for a well deserved break from reality. August and September came and went - August I was gone for, September was getting resettled and finding new work. October hit and I finally got called back by my lawyer, who apologized for the unprofessionalism and then basically had me re-explain everything to them as it seemed like it hadn't been touched since the first week. I got assured by my lawyer that they would call me at the end of that week and give me an update. I called throughout the next and following week. On the 21st, I sent a polite but firm email asking for any progress report as I hadn't been called back and my messages being left with the receptionist were either ignored or not seen. I have been getting invoices from them since mid August to the tune of 769.50 and I said I'd be happy to pay my bill when I saw actual documents supplied to me for said services. I got a call the next day (surprise, surprise) from the assistant/receptionist apologizing and saying that the lawyer had a serious private matter come up and that they were going to call me when they were back this week. It's the end of the week. I have not been communicated with at all. This was supposed to be done 4 MONTHS AGO. Luckily, my business is running well under new owners and they have been paying me as we agreed to. I don't want to continue business at this point. How do I tell my lawyer in no uncertain terms that our business relationship is done and I'm tired of waiting? Am I going to have to pay that bill? The only thing I'm comfortable paying for on that invoice is for unrelated consultation via phone for an adjacent but separate matter involving my lease for my business that my lawyer helped resolve to my satisfaction. I'm not looking to get off the hook completely, I know their time is valuable, but so is mine, and I don't see any work or communication being done from their end, so why should I pay for nothing? I want to email a cancellation of some kind on Monday. Thank you in advance. Edit: I'm in Oregon for the bot. [link] [comments] |
