Looking for advice on a company or funds to invest in over the long term

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 11:10 AM PDT

I currently have about 5k worth of capital I would like to use. Ideally I put this money into a low risk company such as Microsoft or low index funds. The goal would to be just keep placing money into this investment as a way to save money to buy a house or other big time life event. I believe Microsoft is a great choice as a company but I was curious if anyone had any other companies or funds I should look into.

Obvious risks here, but assuming the deal goes through, is it worth the $1100 risk for 1 contract for the potential $300 profit?

I'm more worried about the timing of the deal than it falling through completely, have only traded paper options before so looking for some advice.

    looking at iAnthus

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 11:53 AM PDT

I'm new to weedstocks and was going over statements from iAnthus and I'm still unclear on their strategy.

It appears they have been spending money on acquiring two types of businesses, retailers and growers. Presumably they would buy in wholesale and sell at other locations elsewhere?

It also appears they don't have 100% ownership in their growers either. (I think they own 100% of organix though)

Also I was hoping I read this right. Looking at the Q2 report it shows that their current revenue was less then 5 million but operating expenses were 17 million?

I'm not judging, I'm new and I'm clearly missing something, but why are people hopeful? Are these operating expenses including facilities that can't operate yet? Are they waiting for new markets to open?

Also, how might you judge what they "should" be valued at? I can't figure out how to approach them in regards to this either. I can't seem to find a proposed volume of cannabis either.

EDIT: I meant to post this in weedstocks, my bad

I've been looking all week and can't find any information about the largest single day percentage gain by a single publicly traded stock other than a fraudulent listing from 10 or so years ago. Anyone have a good answer or a resource I could use to find it?

Recommendation needed for a stock app with which I can track my whole portfolio

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 12:50 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I am currently searching for an app with which I would have an easy time tracking my portfolio value. The app should make it possible to A) enter my stocks / ticker B) price at which these were bought C) The quantity. Following that the app should with high preference give me a full portfolio view. Thus what is the total value of my portfolio and what is the development of value in my portfolio (a lot of apps only allow you to view stock quotes or at best give you a price difference between when the stock was bought and now). This is all the functionality that I would need. Also if you know more than one app that does so do tell as it might happen that for whatever reason one of the apps might not be supported by my phone. My OS is Android.

    Thanks for any help!

    Pound Lifted by Agreement Promise

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 05:43 AM PDT

    Pound Lifted by Agreement Promise

The Pound rallied against the US Dollar by more than 1% after one official from the British government said that they were very close to signing off on an agreement which would provide financial services companies in the UK basic access to the E.U. Marketplace. Concern over how the government could finance its deficit had been a major concern for financial market players and this news provided a solid lift for Sterling bulls. The financial services market plays a significant role in the economy in Britain.

As reported at 11:41 am (BST) in London, the GBP/USD was trading higher at $1.29, a gain of 0.84% and off the session peak of $1.2920; the low for the trading day was recorded at $1.2765. The EUR/GBP was trading at 0.88358 Pence, down 0.25%; the pair has ranged from a low of 0.88054 Pence to a high of 0.88635 Pence.

    Strategist Calls for Caution

Market player's concern for the UK's current account deficit is because it is one of the highest among its peers at almost 4% of the country's GDP. Today's gains follow yesterday's support for the Pound after the Brexit minister said he believed a deal would be thrashed out by November 21. Though Dominic Raab offered up a specific date, the government did come back to state that no exact time frame for an agreement had been set. One currency strategist in London also expressed wariness, noting that the Parliament must ratify any agreement first and with that uncertainty it's too soon to celebrate.

I owned stock in Arch Coal Inc. in 2015 before they went bankrupt. Now they are back and are worth $95/share. All my shares are gone because they went bankrupt. I imagine i can't do anything now

    SQ : Square shareholder !

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 01:04 AM PDT

Square was the one I bought by breaking my principal. My principal in purchasing share was at least I know what they are selling and I like their product (or service)

But I'm not in states so I had no chance to use their service (eg, square cash) and in website , there was only typical reviews of their product or services.

The reason I bought square was , when I (finally) enrolled gym and booked gym instructor , I felt it's quite annoyed to pay gym instructor. So I was thinking if there is any easy service I can pay to those services (gym instructor , tennis coach , cleaner ... etc) whenever I use their service , it would be very handy(like just using mobile phone to pay it and keep those records neatly) and then in the middle of googling I found company SQ. stock price was already very high compared to early this year but I decided to take a risk cause their service looks very simple and easy to use (square POS and cash app). I bought more when price went down in this black October and bought more when Twitter announced their earning report. By twitter's earning call , I felt more trust on current CEO , Dorsey.

Do you guys are using square cash app often ? Apparently , their cash app is more popular in App Store than PayPal's one. Nevertheless of earning report at 7th November , I plan to hold it for a while though I can tell it's bit risky due to high valuation and expecting pinky future.

I just want to know how's the actual experience of using square services. If there is anyone using their service , can you give me some opinion ?

It has been gone down for a past year. How much more do you think it would go down?

You guys know Upwork is listed now right?

I haven't seen a lot of volume at all on this stock and it's only valued at around $184,000,000.

Could be a winner and add some diversity to any big tech ETF's.
