October 2018 update from the "Window Cleaning Guy" - We have a 'hail M ary' chance to hit our $400k goal this year!

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 05:45 AM PDT

Hi guys. I'm excited to give this update! For those that dont know....I lost my corporate job 22 months ago and started a window cleaning company overnight in order to pay the bills. Fast forward to today we just closed out a 39k month in October and already have 43k on the books between now and the end of the year. My 400K goal for 2018 is not a done deal but I have a shot at achieving it. My concern at this point isnt selling enough but having the capacity to actually complete it all by the end of the year.

Here is a link to my very first post in this sub. You can find the rest of my posts in my post history. https://www.reddit.com/r/Entrepreneur/comments/5q7xsq/just_found_out_that_i_am_losing_my_job_with/

Shout out to u/someguyfromnj for reaching out to me after my last post and meeting up with me here in Orlando for lunch. This guy is a very successful entrepreneur and has a desire to help others succeed. We need to do it again bro! https://imgur.com/a/rKQzlRS

    Some ongoing issues....

We have FINALLY got the second truck on the road. It is only staffed with one (instead of two) techs at the moment but it is still making a big impact on production. I should have had the second tech on Oct 1st but with my less than perfect efforts I have yet to find the right guy and I'm not willing to bring on the wrong guy for a short term gain that will definitely become a long term loss.

The search for a warehouse is FINALLY coming to an end. I should be hearing from them with an approval (or denial) very soon. We have submitted a LOI and my commercial realtor thinks that all will be good. The only real concern is my personal credit that took a BIG hit when I first started the business. It appears that they will be satisfied with my business financials and wont be depending on my credit.....FINGERS CROSSED.

As those that have been following along from the beginning know my biggest weakness has been bookkeeping and accounting. I understand it but HATE DOING IT with a passion. I hired an accountant a while back and we now have all of our books in order with the company having a much healthier margin that I estimated. When people were asking what my net margins were I would estimate at 10% or less. With conservative Q4 projections we are looking at a 28% margin for 2018. To be clear on what I'm referring to on the net margin....Total sales - Fixed and variable expenses = Net Margin
THEN capital expenditures come out of that (like trucks and equipment...) Net margin will be going down significantly as we grow in 2019 seeing that I will be bringing on more staff and overhead. It's been so high because I am still in the owner/operator phase even though I have guys doing the cleaning for me. Based off of everything that I have read and the people in my industry that I have spoken to a healthy service company like mine will operate with a 20% net margin. Extremely successful ones can get as high as 25% and others that are still healthy will only be around 12-15%.

As 2019 is approaching I have had the number of $800,000 in my sights with us breaking $1,100,000 in 2020. I have spent the last two weeks working on next years sales and marketing projections along with expense budgets and necessary capital expenditures. I have found that if I lower my goal to $717,181 I can end the year with the same amount of money in the bank but will have one less vehicle to buy and two less technicians to hire (and a lot less stress along the way). Although I will still have to buy that truck and hire those techs in Q1 of 2020 this path will put me in a much healthier position with cash flow in 2019. The 800K goal has me in a VERY dangerous position in Q1(2019) with absolutely no room for error. I'm not willing to take on that risk for what is essentially a 'pride' issue. So, even though I still have a month to finalize my 2019 goal I'm thinking that $717k is where I'll end up.

On the more personal side of things....This unexpected and unplanned journey has been such a blessing for me in so many ways. It is forcing me to grow as a person making me a better husband and father. My wife and I just celebrated our 21st anniversary (high school sweethearts) yesterday. We are loving this adventure that we are on! Working with my oldest son every day brought some of my BIG ASSHOLE TENDENCIES to the surface which caused some bad times for the two of us early on. This forced me to make the Dr. Phil decision of "Do I want to be right or do I want to be happy". I chose the happy option and have changed the way that I interact with my children as a result. I'm not saying that we didnt have a good relationship before (because we did) but things are much better now and continue to get better. My own self limiting beliefs continue to fall off as each day goes by. Originally I just wanted to pay the bills, then I wanted to hire people to do the work for me, then I wanted to build a 1 million dollar business, then I wanted a 5 million dollar business, now I realize that my potential is just as great as any other persons potential and I am really dreaming big.

Once again I want to thank this sub for the support that I get from it. I cannot express how much the positive comments of encouragement early on helped me push through the fear. I also cannot express how much motivation the guys that always seem to have a problem with my story give me. Even though I am doing this for myself it always feels good to prove the doubters wrong!

I have been documenting my journey from day one on Youtube. You can follow along here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTS3WLs0t2stlWFaqTzP2mQ?view_as=subscriber

And to be proactive on the most common question that I get each time I post....Here is a video that I made giving advice to anyone that is wanting to start a similar business: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDfF6f_jALA&t=47s

QUIT MY $70k/YR 9-5 To Paint Houses...3 Things you NEED to know before you take the leap too!

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 04:04 AM PDT

Entrepreneur Reddit Fam! I'm writing this today with a huge smile on my face. Not because I've made money, or am my own boss…but because after two years of taking the leap, I realize how much more is left on the table, and I'm so glad that I did it.

Once you're on this side of taking the leap, a certain trust builds within you - a confidence. In yourself. That you can do it.

Two years ago, I was sitting at a small cubicle in a local credit union. My ass was cramping daily from sitting all day, I was being inundated with the small-office banter and politics, and I desperately craved more.

It wasn't until enough was enough - It wasn't til I woke up one day and said: Today is the day…

I knew which direction I wanted to go in, I just didn't have the confidence that I would be able to supplement my comfy $70,000 per year income selling warranties and financing vehicles. It was nice, but very, very comfortable. It's kind of like seeing your entire life in front of you everyday - you know what to expect, you know what the promotion will look like, everything is so repetitive.

Enough was enough - I took the leap of faith and decided to start a House Painting company.

At this point in my life, I'm two years in, and in our second year, we've generated over $600,000 this year alone. Pretty cool!

But, what good would I be if I didn't share some things I learned along the way? Here's three things that you need to know before you take the leap too.

Don't be afraid what others will think of you when you quit.

We build so many relationships in our place of work - and taking the leap into entrepreneurship will cause a lot of those people to question you, judge you, and in some cases alienate you. Don't worry about that stuff - Just hold true to your vision. Your "why" for doing it, and the idea of what your life will look like once you're there. The same people will still be at that job, and wishing that they had what it takes to leave it… trust me.

You will have to work 10 times harder on your own

Lol, this doesn't just include the business part of things. In school, we're told where to be at 8am, 10am, 1pm, and 4pm. At work, we show up at 8am, leave at 4am. On your own? Your entire day is up to you to manage. Want to sleep in? Go ahead… no one will care. Don't want to make follow up calls? No problem, no one will check on you. Don't want to drive across town to check on that job that your team is working on? Forget about it, watching Netflix feels soooo good right now. Not. You have to develop a discipline. Start now, wake up 2 hours before you're "supposed" to be at work - that'll get you going.

Remember how you were treated as an employee, and treat your employees the exact opposite.

Ok, before you take this literally let me clarify. I would say 9/10 you're wanting to leave your job because of the mistreatment. Either you're underpaid, or you don't like who you're working for. Well, guess what, if you do the same thing to your employees, they'll leave too. And you'll be stuck doing all the work - and worse, having to train new employees over and over again - super time waster… build loyalty, put your employees first - be honest, and lead by example… all that mushy gushy stuff works really, really well.

    Best of luck out there!

Being an entrepreneur has saved me from an unhappy and result-less life.

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 09:16 AM PDT

One year ago, after months of depression and more than 50h of work a week, I have decided to quit the long hours that had as a result only a low income that could not keep up with the household needs. I always felt down, upset, even when having family dinners or friends get-together's, I was thinking about my latest assignment or about what i'm doing tomorrow to finish the workload faster.

My best friend asked me once: where have all your skills and hobbies went, bro?

I felt even more down.. because i had just realized that i have forgotten how much i love to go fishing or much i like the smell and feeling of woodwork.

This was the moment when i said: "STOP" Let's start fresh. Quit my job, invested what i had in a company and worked even harder than before. But the satisfaction was mine, all mine! I felt good even though in the beginning i was sleeping few hours a night.

Now, I reached success and created results for myself. Life as an entrepreneur, proved to have no limits about income or workload. I am able to count achievements and be proud about who i've become.

What's your success story, entrepreneurs of reddit?

Here's how Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and Ebay changed today. Major platform changes/news summary for 11/1/18

    Posted: 01 Nov 2018 05:15 PM PDT

Here is my CTA-free summary of the news for the day. Hope you had a fun halloween! Enjoy!

Facebook: Facebook is requiring agencies to confirm their relationship to a business/client if they are running ad campaigns on a client's behalf.

Businesses/clients will be able to assign "advertising partners" so that agencies running retargeting on their client's behalf will be able to access retargeting. If you already run ads on a client's behalf you will have to update your information within the first half of 2019.

Instagram: Instagram is adding Hashtag Search and API to Businesses on Instagram. You are now able to find videos and photos that are public and have been tagged with a # relating to your Business and account.

Twitter: Twitter is testing with some IOS users (a home screen button) the ability to toggle between an algorithmic timeline to reverse chronological timeline of activity only from people you follow. Hopefully it rolls out globally!

Pinterest: Pinterest rolled out a new ad format to all business accounts today. Now your business can use their new Promoted Carousel ads to utilize 5 swipe-able images to direct people to any 5 urls/landing pages you designate.

You can also add a title and little description blurb to each image similar to Facebook's carousel ads.

Ebay: Ebay rolled out Volume Pricing which means you can now offer your customers the chance to order more items at a reduced/bulk rate.

All of the ways I’ve wasted money trying to bring traffic to my site

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 12:36 PM PDT

    BACKGROUND

About 6 years ago I launched a brand of skinny ties. The brand was never intended to sell direct to consumer, it was a wholesale business with one anchor account called Jackthreads.com. Business was great for the first few years until Jackthreads decided to move in a different direction. This decision had nothing to do with me or my product, it was an internal decision on their part. At that point I needed to pivot. I had a handful of small wholesale accounts that helped pay the bills but it wasn't enough. At that point I was getting about 1000 monthly unique visitors to my site and conversion was about 3%. I did not know where those visitors were coming from but I presumed they were people who bought my ties from Jackthreads or another wholesale channel and decided to come directly to my site to orders more ties. Keep reading and I'll tell you how I was dead wrong.

    MARKETING MISTAKES

With my anchor account out of the picture I decided to put some time and money into testing out various marketing channels. Some things I executed myself and others I outsourced to agencies. In effort to keep this article efficient I'm going to use a bullet list to outline the mistakes I made:

    · FACEBOOK ADS – I tested them myself and I got some orders but my campaigns were not profitable. I hired a few different agencies to manage my FB ads and they were even worse. Some charged as much as $1000 per month. With a total spend budget of $1000 it was an impossible challenge to think they could make the numbers work. I was spending $2K per month ($1K in ads and $1K in agency fees) with a goal of $5K in revenue. We weren't even close. Furthermore the FB ad traffic that we did receive only converted at 1%. My takeaway was that while Facebook is a great platform to reach a desired audience, it's too difficult to advertise a single product and be profitable. Facebook users are using the platform to do everything except shop, and this brings me to my next failure:

    · GOOGLE AD-WORDS – I thought I'd have more success here considering people are searching for things like "Cool Skinny Ties for my Wedding". Unlike Facebook, with Google Ad-words there was a pre-established demand for my items. People were searching for various terms and finding my site. The problem was that it was too expensive. I managed the campaigns myself but they were not profitable so I then hired Google themselves to run my campaign and they were even worse. This was shocking! Google spent $1000 dollars in ads and only got 4 conversions (avg order size of $32). I fired them immediately and also called out that they were using an image of a bow tie in their ad while my company specialized in skinny ties, not bow ties. They refunded me a small amount.

    · INFLUENCER MARKETING – This was all the buzz in 2016 so I jumped on the bandwagon. I signed up for a platform that charged me $500 per month to connect me to influencers. From there I had to negotiate payments with the influencers. Most posts were $50-$150 depending on the size of the influencer's audience. I started with Instagram because it was cheaper. This was a total bust. I paid a bunch of influencers to take pictures of themselves in my ties and post on their IG accounts. The influencers did a great job with the images but the engagement didn't leave their profile. They had call outs to my website and my brand's Instagram page but not even a single person would visit. The followers had some great comments but zero interest in purchasing the ties or learning more about my brand. YouTube was a little better but also more costly. We sent some ties to YouTube reviewers and got a tiny bit of traffic to our site but no conversions

    · GIVEAWAY CAMPAIGNS – Didn't work for me. The opt-ins were bottom dwelling deal seekers, not people interested in my brand. I participated in a 5 brand giveaway campaign. It cost me $300 plus a few ties that I had to send to the winners. In the end I received 3,000 emails. A few weeks later I sent a newsletter (through Mailchimp) to this list and several people unsubscribed, very few opened the email, even fewer clicked, and zero purchased. I tried a few more campaigns directed toward this group but the results (or lack thereof) were the same. I noticed that this new infusion of 3,000 subscribers was putting my Mailchimp account into a higher more expensive bracket so I promptly deleted the list and went back down to the lower priced tier.

    · MEDIA PLACEMENTS – These weren't too bad. I paid $1000 for a spot on a high traffic site that had an audience that I thought would have interest in skinny ties. We received a large amount of traffic and conversion was decent. After factoring in our cost of goods, warehousing, and shipping the overall campaign was close to profitable but not quite there.

    · PUBLIC RELATIONS – Most agencies want north of $4K per month which is just absurd since there are no guarantees or deliverables when it comes to PR. I found one agency that took on my brand for $1000 per month. Most months we'd get a few hits from some mommy blogs and very small media outlets that would lead to tiny amounts of traffic and no conversions. Every once in a while we'd land a medium size media outlet that brought in some decent converting traffic but it wasn't enough to justify the cost. PR sounds fun and everyone thinks getting a celeb to wear your product will get your brand known but it's not that simple. Hiring a PR company to build out a campaign for your brand is extremely expensive, can take several years, and doesn't come with any guarantees.

    LIFETIME VALUE OF A CUSTOMER

Every single marketing firm that I spoke to over the years told me I need to look at the lifetime value of a customer and not the dollar amount of the first transaction. These people clearly have not bootstrapped a business before. I had a decent customer retention rate but there was no guarantee of when a customer would come back. I can't control when the customer has a wedding coming up or if he needs a tie for a job interview. When looking through my various cohorts and their behavior in terms of repeat orders the data was not consistent. I told marketing agencies that I want to be profitable on the first transaction from a customer acquired through paid ads. The agencies told me to not worry about that. They said if I'm confident that the customers will spread the word and come back to my site then we'll be profitable in the long run. One major problem with that logic is that it doesn't account for cash flow. I can't afford to spend $20,000 now in hopes of it yielding $100,000 in 5 years. My business will run out of cash if I have to wait several years to see the return. For paid ads to work for my small business I need to be profitable on transaction #1.

    DID ANYTHING WORK?

Yes, SEO worked. Those 1000 monthly unique visitors that I mentioned at the beginning of this article were finding my site because it ranked on page one of Google for the search term "Skinny Tie" and "Skinny Ties". I did nothing to try to make this happen. My URL includes the words "Skinny Tie" and after having the site up for a few years it got recognized.

Email marketing works. Over 6 years the email list has 2,300 subscribers. This number is tiny. I did nothing to try to get these subscribers, they are all true opt-ins, fans, and/or customers. When I send out an email to announce a sale we usually see a 35% open rate and several conversions. This list is great but it's small. I'd love to grow the list but not at the expense of diluting it.

    CONCLUSIONS AND NEXT STEPS

Paying for traffic is expensive and often doesn't lead to conversions. I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm just saying it didn't work for me. This doesn't mean I'm giving up. This means I'm giving up on the things that didn't work and focusing on the things that did with a slightly different angle. One of my takeaways from my FB and Ad-words fails was that there are too many brands trying to market their products online. Some brands can make their conversion funnels work but most cannot. My next strategy is to scrap my conversion funnel completely and approach my brand as if it's an ecosystem. My goal is to have users pierce the bubble of my ecosystem and enter it in a way that is meaningful to them. I don't want to be overly aggressive and try to force my ties down people's throats. I want them to see what we're doing and decide if they're feeling it or not. So how do I plan to accomplish this?

SEO friendly content. For my brand it means creating a series of "How To Tie A Tie" videos that are an update to the boring ones out there already. I hope the content is useful and entertaining to viewers and that people will enter my brand's ecosystem through a different door than the traditional FB product ad. Currently there are several searches for "How To Tie A Tie" and there are several results. I want my videos to have their own personality that sets them apart from the others. Not all viewers will like the brand personality but they don't have to…I'd rather land a few loyal followers than a bunch of meh followers. I might have to spend a few bucks on drawing traffic to my videos but it's worth a shot. All of the marketing fails that I listed above cost money and I don't regret doing them, I had to try. For my new plan to work I may have to outlay some cash without any direct correlation to sales but I'd much rather try this route than continuing to waste money on the marketing channels that did not work for. I'll keep you posted!

I have no problem starting businesses... My problem is continuing with them. In fact, I almost always lose interest in 4-5 months like clockwork. Anyone else the same?

    A little entrepreneur motivation

I've been listening to the song Hall of Fame by The Script for years and didn't realize until now that the lyrics basically match every entrepreneur motivation post in the history of entrepreneur motivation posts.

    Here is the song: https://youtu.be/mk48xRzuNvA

    Just something curious I found.

    Securing a mentor

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 08:03 AM PDT

Sorry if this is not allowed here, I checked the sidebar and didn't see any rules against it or any alternative subs more specific to my question. Mods, please remove and message me if not allowed. Thank you.

Anyways, I'm 23 and getting out of the Army soon. I'm not looking to get a job, create wealth for someone else, and live my life hoping to make enough money to survive and retire, and then hopefully have enough money to feed myself until I die. That just seems awfully grim and mundane to me and I feel I am capable of much more, as is everyone if they would reach for it.

I have some ideas to generate cash flow for myself. One in particular I feel has an exceptionally high chance of succeeding based on the research I've done and the surrounding circumstances.

To the main point, I'm looking to secure a mentor to help guide me in my journey of creating wealth for myself and my family through multiple means. When I finally am set free, I am going to start grinding and moving hard to make this happen for myself. How do I go about finding such a person that is willing to help a young entrepreneur seek success?

    Feeling incredibly down

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 09:46 AM PDT

Hey everyone. Feeling incredibly down due to not having any sales for 2 weeks.

Launched my first product, first brand in August. Received about $2500 after the initial launch in revenue after throwing down $10k for inventory and little more for marketing and advertising.

First product is competitive, but I believe I am providing a good value add with my product.

The goal was to get consistent cash flow and have some funds to create a brand new product not yet on the market.

Facebook, Google, Amazon ads are not working and I have no idea why.

I've talked to my other entrepreneur friends and even called some people on Clarity.fm for advice, but no one can give me a straight answer.

Main channel of revenue is Amazon, pushing traffic to my ecommerce site also isn't working. The product research I did was all positive. Even sent a bunch of samples to random people for feedback , all positive. Launch was positive too.

Just venting, but really need to get sales up 😩

Who do you think succeeds more, someone that starts a business in what they know, or someone a bit more opportunistic (something like advertising, ecommerce, etc)?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 10:39 AM PDT

So for example, let's say someone is really good at web design and they create some sort of SEO tools, yada yada and go about starting a business in that. Do you think that person is more likely to succeed in comparison to someone who goes where there's tons of money being made, say, maybe if the advertising business was growing?

Things to check if you experience a drop in keyword rankings or Google traffic to your website.

    Posted: 01 Nov 2018 10:15 PM PDT

A checklist for finding out what exactly went wrong when there is a drop in Google traffic / keyword rankings.

    1. Manual search engine penalties

This is where a human reviewer from Google has determined that pages on your site are not compliant with Google's webmaster quality guidelines

    • Check if your website was hacked 🔐: Everyday, millions of websites are compromised. Here's a good article from Google that explains how to check if your website was hacked, and the process for recovering a site from a hack.
    • Check for user-generated spam 🗑️: If your Google search console warns you about user generated spam, this normally refers to user generated content on your blogs and forums filled with advertisements and irrelevant links. Here is an article which shows you how to prevent this from happening.
    • Check for thin content ✍️: If you receive this warning on your search console, it means that Google has detected low-quality pages or shallow pages on your site. You'll need to take all the thin and duplicate content down, and spend time to create unique content that provides value.
    • Cloaking and/or sneaky redirects 🏹: If you receive this warning, it means that your site may be showing different pages to users than are shown to Google, or redirecting users to a different page than Google saw. Use this tool and compare the content fetched by Google to the content seen by a human in a browser. You'll need to fix anything that differs and make sure the same content is served to both search engine bots and users.
    • Unnatural links from your site 🖇️: This warning means that Google has detected a pattern of unnatural or manipulative outbound links originating from your website. Have your bought links or participated in link schemes in the past? Fix this (by removing the links or no-follow) and the warning should disappear.

    2. Google Algorithm changes

This is when Google releases a new algorithm, or updates and refreshes an older algorithm.

    • Check if Google updated their algorithm 💻: Most times Google does not publicly announce that they have updated their algorithm. But you can follow and check these search engine news to see if Google has officially or unofficially released a new algorithm.

    3. Competitors

    • Competitor outranking you 📊: This is when your website gets outranked by a competitor, but most of the other websites in the SERP are in the same positions as before. To fix this use a backlink analysis tool like Ahrefs or SEMRush, and check if your competitors page has more quality backlinks pointing to them than you have pointing to your website? Also check the domain authority and on-page SEO factors to see how you can improve your rankings.

    4. Backlinks

    • Lost backlinks 🔗: Losing high-quality backlinks can hurt your rankings and keyword positions on Google. Especially, if your site doesn't have a lot of links, the links you lose can have a significant impact on your rankings. Use a backlink analysis tool like SEOspyglass or Ahrefs to check the following:
      • Has there been a noticeable site-wide link drop?
      • Or has there been a noticeable link drop to the page or group of pages you've seen a rankings change for?
      • To fix this you have to manually evaluate each lost link and contact the webmaster to check if it can be restored.
    • Check for new backlinks 🔗🔗: A sudden surge in new links pointing to your website can, in some instances, trigger a temporary decline in rankings, especially if the incoming links are of low quality. Again, use a tool like SEOspyglass or Ahrefs to check the newly created backlinks, and disavow them if necessary.

    5. Website changes

Making any changes to your site — such as redesigning it, changing your platform, or moving to HTTPS — can result in a drop of rankings if you make any error.

    • Check for crawl errors 🤖: Check for crawl errors on your Google search console, and fix them accordingly.
    • Check for changes to URL? 🔗: Did you update or modify the URLs on your website? Check to see how the URLs were before the drop in rankings, and change back if you removed any significant keywords from the URL.
    • Check changes to meta tags & header tags? 🏷️: Have you removed any of the target keywords from the meta tags, the page title, H1, or H2s? If yes, usually changing it back to how it was will restore your rankings.
    • Check keyword density? ♨️: While re-designing the website, or updating the content on the website, did you by mistake change the keyword density for the target keyword? If it is lower now than it used to be, this could be one of the factors that has resulted in the drop of rankings for your keyword.
    • Check changes in internal linking structure ⛩️: If you added or removed internal links, that could change the way link equity flows through your site, changing Google's perceived value of the pages on your site.
      • Did you recently update site navigation anywhere?
      • Did you update key pages on your site that link to target pages?
      • Did you update anchor text on links to target pages? Does it still include the target keyword?
      • Go back and check how the internal links were structured before you experienced the drop in rankings. Changing it back to how it was could fix this problem.
    • Content access ⚰️: Can Google read all of the content on the page? Check the cached version of your website to make sure Google can access all the content properly. E.g. cache:www.yourwebsite.com/your-page
    • Check your robots.txt file 📁: Check your robots.txt file to make sure that you haven't blocked the Google web crawlers from crawling important URLs on your website. Use this tool to make sure that everything is properly added in your robots.txt file.
    • Check for server issues 🗄️: Speak to the team responsible for the server and check the server logs for any unusual errors. The "fetch and render" function within Search Console enables you to see what is served to Google when it makes a request for a particular page. You should look for errors in your server logs and use Google's Fetch and Render tool to test how a URL on your site renders or is crawled.

    6. Negative SEO

    • Check for un-natural links ⚓: If you find that someone is using negative SEO and attacking you by building low quality backlinks, your best bet is disavowing the spammy links that are being built for your site. You can use any backlink analysis tool to identify un-natural links pointing to your website.
    • Check for scraped content? ✏️: This is when someone copies your site's content and posts it as their own. If Google finds the "stolen" version before they crawl your website, it could lead to de-ranking your website. You can use Copyscape to check if this happened to your site. You can also report the scraper using Google's copyright infringement report.

    7. Click-Through Rate Changes

The impact of CTR's on rankings is a controversial topic in the SEO space but google has confirmed this matters in the past.

    • Check to see if CTR's have reduced: You can check on the CTR of your highest ranking terms via the Google Search Console. Did you recently add a popup that is increasing bounce rate? Is the page taking longer to load.

Let me know your thoughts. Hope it helps.

    Thanks!

Simplest way to promote your product

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 01:17 PM PDT

    Hello all,

Without wasting your time, Just wanted to share a quick experience. One of my client was

selling a "weight loss e book" on his website from last year.

In one year he got 150 buyers, after spending some time and money both in advertising and his campaigns.

But for a surprise , after launching it on a market place, he got around 700 sales in last 4 months. All the money he

use to spend on advertisement such as PPC is not going into pocket of affiliates and the model is working well for him.

So in case someone is struggling to make sales, I will recommend to sell on market place such as Clickbank for digital goods and Amazon for physical ones.

    Hope it helps someone.

This is not actually a trick, but I thought it is worth sharing here.

For those who don't know what are affiliate and what is the affiliate model of promotion is , Affiliates are marketers who

promote products for the sake of commission, most of the time they are the people who have hold on your product niche and have huge audience to cater. In return my client is paying 50% commission to them.

    Hope it helps.

    Thanks

paying for help to organize my business and life

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 08:17 AM PDT

    Hello all,

I'm a startup founder (funded), a graduate student, and an all around busy person. People depend on me, and I just have so many things to do that things get dropped. People have to ask me three times to pay an invoice. I forget the occasional meeting. Etc.
I have money to spend to solve this problem. How should I go about it? I need a better organization system, maybe some kind of outsourced assistant. It would be amazing to pay some sort of project manager for my life including my business, but I'm not sure exactly how to go about that.

What sorts of people or services should I be looking at? Is this an assistant, an organizational consultant, a project manager, or something else?

My budget is $500 a month, though I could go as high as $1000 (so I'm not in the market for a full-time in-country assistant).

    Thanks!

They say they are not like crypto and they want to make the whole financial ecosystem better.

but, how can they create an asset/token if it isnt fiat and not be crypto?

ELI5: How are they planning to do this? is this worth it? I signed up with the link on there and got 4k tokens but they seem to be work nothing.

and suspiciously, there is a clock that counts down on the page. hmmm..

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 08:24 AM PDT

Hello all of you , first of all excuse my English , it's my 3rd language .

I am developing a platform where Professors can sign up as a freelancer so a student can do a practical exam and send it to a Professor of his choice (based on other students reviews) to check it for him and give him detailed reviews about his answers in case they were wrong or right .

The platform targets students who are applying to big exams and concourse to get in to big Engineering schools Ecole Polytechnique , Ecole Centrale and other big Universities .

The reason I am asking here is that my friend told me it's not a good idea and students aren't going to pay for such services .

    Thank you .

    Difficult communication with partner

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 08:11 AM PDT

    Hi guys,

I've run a pretty successful business with my partner for the past two years. We started off great but he moved to another market area and we decided to launch our product there as well since we were at it. We're friends and equity partners, so splitting up is not an option. I'd rather shut down the company than endanger our friendship.

Now he's been there for little over a year and the revenue really hasn't been up to any standard and over 90% of it is coming from my part of the operation. He does a few things that bug me incredibly

    1. Doesn't take any responsibility for what goes wrong. It's always someone else's fault (which should always be the managers responsibility anyways, but he doesn't look at it that way).
    2. Doesn't answer customers or our partners e-mails.
    3. Doesn't listen to any of my suggestions on how to properly market the product, even though I have overwhelming evidence for its effectiveness.
    4. Purposefully misinterprets sales numbers to inflate perception, which makes it really difficult for me to give reliable information to shareholders.
    5. Introduces himself as CEO of our company, which he is not.

Now, I'm not just here nagging about him, but this behaviour seems to stem from some one common problem he's having. I also don't want to fall into the trap of not taking responsibility, so I really want to put in the effort of trying to help him fix this.

I've talked to him about some of this for some time now, but he seems to prideful to admit that things aren't going great over there. The company will not be able to pay him his salary forever if it goes on like this. Have you guys dealt with this before? How did you approach the situation?

Is starting a Bike/Bicycle brand worth it?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 08:06 AM PDT

As I have seen in alot of other brands as well, the bikes they produce are great, but does lack in some design aspects and are all basically repetitions of a same design. So, I've been long interested in bikes, and along with my friend, is considering to start a bike company.

So first of all, we as digital nomads, thinking of raising a social media following and later launching a kickstarter, in order to fund this. But other people, that I've consulted with, also says that it will be more profitable to launch a distrubution-type company importing exotic brands into the western world (Some says this is what Nike did back in their starting period). We're also considering this, so anyone with experience/opinion leave their two cents here on the matter?

P.S; first time posting here, and also we're just in our 20's and are much inexperienced in the overall matter.

Wide range of impressions in media.net ads any ideas why this is happening?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 07:36 AM PDT

Just started using media.net as my first way to monetize my site. Anyways I'm looking at the impressions and there really off while i get roughly the same traffic every day so far I've had

    (109 impressions 27 oct)

    (0 impressions 28 oct)

    (15 impressions 29 oct)

    (244 impressions 30 oct)

    (108 impressions 31 oct)

How could this be right? All my traffic comes from search engines and i get about 150-200 visitors every day? could me purging the sites cache have any effect?

I purged my site from cache with w3 total cache on 30 october in the morning and had my biggest amount of impressions? could cache cos an issue to media.net ads?

    Thanks
