My thoughts on AMDs move to TSMC for 7nm, and away from GloblaFoundries

    https://codelie.com/2018/09/02/amd-completes-transition-to-tsmc-with-7nm-goodbye-globalfoundries/

I've been a pretty big AMD fan for the last year. I also think TSMC is the best fab out there, considering the performance of NVidia's GPUs.

As someone that is long both AMD and TSMC, I'd like to see how others feel about it.

GOOGL to 1500 by end of year?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2018 07:20 AM PDT

Pros Gradual increases in revenue, innovating in many industries, data is the feature and they hold a lot of it, brand is one of the most valuable brands out there

Cons Majority of profits are not divided, as they come from one type of source of income (advertising) Leadership has a lot of room for improvement, too many failed projects, name change, etc. Where's the focus? Privacy facing a lot of scrutiny lately, though this doesn't seem to stop many people from using their services PE could be better, currently at ~52

    What do y'all think?

How do you guys keep up with news?

    Posted: 01 Sep 2018 09:01 PM PDT

Hi. I just started becoming interested in stocks last week. I am learning how to use finviz's screener and I am just learning how to pick stocks in general. The thing I am most struggling with is how to keep up with so many stocks and all the companies' news to see if I should invest or not.

I've been reading threads in here and everyone has different stocks they invest in or say to invest in, and I'm just wondering how everyone came to those decisions. There are so many companies that I have never heard of and would have never heard of if it wasn't for this sub.

How do you search for possible good stocks? Do you just use finviz screener and go through all the stocks that fit your criteria and just google "xxxx news"?

Thoughts on luxury groups such as LVMH & Kering?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2018 11:38 AM PDT

What are your thoughts on these types of luxury companies who own a plethora of luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Dior, Balenciaga etc.?

I'm asking this because during the last few years, maximalist fashion have been very trendy and this have definitely made a huge positive mark on these brands sales, especially e.g. Gucci.

Best way to short the market?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2018 07:15 AM PDT

I am firmly convinced that at least a 10% correction is on its way. I would not be surprised to see the S&P back to 2400 within the next 12 months. Thing is, I've never traded options. I'm mostly a day trader now with a separate investment account. So I need advice/instructions on how to cobble together an options strategy to bet on my prediction. Any and all help appreciated.

What company do you think is on the cusp of becoming something great?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2018 02:03 PM PDT

Like the title says, what company do you view as being on the cusp of becoming something great. Why do you think they will become great and why haven't they already achieved greatness?

    Will stocks ever stop growing?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2018 01:45 PM PDT

I'm making quite a lot of money in a low cost of living area so I'm interested in investing some of it. One day I'd like to have big enough annual returns so that I can live a normal live off of them.

However, what if humans achieve immortality in this century and the world population stabilizes after some time. Because of that, wouldn't the economy and stock prices stop growing at one point?

This likely won't happen but I'm interested how immortality would affect all of this. I apologize if this is a stupid question haha

    Rate my Roth IRA plan

    Posted: 02 Sep 2018 01:41 PM PDT

I'm young and want to take a little risk with my Roth IRA. I'm fine financially (no debts, wife and I have good steady jobs)

11k in Roth IRA between us.

    60% - VTI 4% - Waste Management 4% - United Parcel Service (5% discount on lowest POY Hell yeah) 4% - Johnson & Johnson 4% - Visa 4% - Microsoft 4% - Home Depot 4% - Costco 4% - Not sure yet, either McDonald's or Disney

Plan is to do this for at least 5 years. Let the dividends reinvest and then gradually increase VTI % and maybe remove or add other Blue Chip stocks. But I don't plan on increasing % of individual stocks. Thoughts? Suggestions?

    Motorola

    Posted: 02 Sep 2018 11:40 AM PDT

Hi guys I am a fairly new investor and I started about 5 years ago. I bought Motorola back then hoping to make a short time investment but it ended up doing much better than I expected. Is there a reason Motorola is doing so well, almost at $130.

[Sunday shitpost] Help me come up with a word that sounds like "chest" which is roughly synonymous with "growth"

    Posted: 02 Sep 2018 10:41 AM PDT

Like ye's words on going to the gym, "all chest, no legs"

I need a phrase for my portfolio, like "all growth, no hedge." But "growth" doesn't fit so well.

Help me come up with a 🌊🌊🌊 name for my portfolio pie in m1.

Good time to buy gold derivatives?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2018 06:32 AM PDT

Gold has been taking a hit for a while now and seems to be going down for a while. Will gold buying in China and India be going up soon? What about the use of gold in microprocessors? Will these factors positively influence the prices of gold in the future?

    Tax-exempt ETFs?

I have $90,000 in a brokerage account and $11,000 invested in my traditional IRA. For my brokerage account should I go with the Schwab Intelligent Portfolio with tax loss harvesting?

    Posted: 01 Sep 2018 08:58 PM PDT

I'm considering doing more short term stuff with my traditional IRA, such as day trading, and I dont know which buy and hold ETFs or muni bonds I should go into with my $90000 brokerage.

    Pinduoduo Analysis

    Posted: 01 Sep 2018 07:11 PM PDT

    Hi guys,

New to this sub and I love what you guys are doing, wish I had found you guys earlier. I recently took a small position in Pinduoduo when it first came public. I love the model that they are currently using and I think that it can definitely be applied to a lot more scenarios such as bulk purchasing of goods from farms. It will definitely have to evolve to become something a lot more permanent but for now, it's driving a lot of growth to the company.

Looking at their earnings report, it seems that they have knocked it out of the park. The earning report can be found here - http://investor.pinduoduo.com/static-files/8b7cb134-661d-4242-8aa5-644fd37868e5

So while PDD hasn't been on the stock market for a whole year, it seems that with this earnings report, the stock price should have gone up significantly. Is there something that I'm missing here with the stock? Was this growth already priced in when the company went public? Or are these figures questionable?

    Thanks for your help!

    Any thoughts on stick fix?

    Posted: 01 Sep 2018 02:38 PM PDT

    My apology STITCH FIX

I'm a Canadian and I took fashion design not in post secondary but in high school level. I decided fashion design isn't for me however interests are still there.

E commerce is the future and I believe this is the first company that does what they do.

    I believe it's a good company.

I just want to hear share holders or who are interested in this company.
