To all the noobies who post multiple times a day asking how to get into sales, how the fuck do you think you'll cut it if you can't even use the god damn search bar? This question has been asked thousands of times and the FAQ has a dedicated section to it. You actually expect to succeed in sales?

Find something else because trust me, prospecting and qualifying will be 100x harder for you.

Outsides Sales People! How do you handle eating healthy while in the field?

    Salesgenie vs Zoominfo?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2018 12:28 PM PDT

Hey everyone! I am sure a lot of you use one or the other, care to share why you chose the one you did and your experience with it?

Context: Our target clients are execs in SMB, 10-250 employees, white collar industries.

We have a small geographic target so I am not sure how long we would need a subscription or how people handle that once they have enough to keep you busy for a while.

    Any and all thoughts appreciated!

Is stealing another sales consultants customers essential to being successful?

    Posted: 01 Sep 2018 05:07 PM PDT

I am new at a retail appliance sales position and at my store stealing other people customers is very common. A guy lied to me when it was my time to take a customer and said he had an appointment with them(they never met before and I figured this out by watching them speak to each other ). He was supposed to go after me but he got the 2000 dollar sale meanwhile the person I got after him that would of been his customer had poor credit and was denied. It pissed me off and the last 3 hours of my shift I couldn't bring myself to take another UP customer. The manager mentioned in the meeting after a veteran sales consultant brought it up that this is an issue at this store but they don't do anything about it. How common is this and what are ways I can avoid this in the future.

Our lead system and potential clients is available to everyone in the store so if I enter a customers info on my computer their is nothing stopping someone from calling the same client and selling it. We're supposed to have an honor system of 3 days before reaching out to someone else's client but it's not honored at all. A customer calls asking for another sales consultant and when I went asking for them to another sales consultant he tried to steal him away for himself. Not sure how to deal with this, I feel like it might make an easier target in the future just for doing the right thing.

    Selling my brother ('s talents)

    Posted: 02 Sep 2018 05:07 AM PDT

    I couldn't resist the title, I'm sorry.

Anyways, my question: My brother is a DJ / producer who is quite talented, but woefully ignorant when it comes to making money off of his skills. That's why I wanted to become his "manager". Would making appointments with clubs / lounges be considered "sales", and does anyone have any advice they'd like to share? It's my first time doing this stuff.

    Negotiation seminars/courses

    Posted: 02 Sep 2018 12:19 AM PDT

What negotiation seminars/courses have you attended? Share your experience including if you thought it was valuable to you personally, if you felt it was worthwhile for the cost, & if you plan on attending more in the future.

Thank you! Also, I'm brand new to this thread & a very quick search didn't show this question being asked already. If it has, please post the link! Thanks!

    Books on sales

    Posted: 01 Sep 2018 11:27 PM PDT

Reading SPIN selling right now, looking good.

But do anyone have or is there a list somewhere listing all/many books on sales in chronological order. Mostly interested in the newer ones.

Most I find online are really really old and frankly quite outdated in many areas imo, as sales surely are very different today from the 60s 70s 80s 90s. Sure a lot of the old stuff still apply but you get what I mean.

Functional Key In the Wrong Lock (and why you shouldn't let one role put you off others).

    Posted: 02 Sep 2018 03:32 AM PDT

Morning/Afternoon, depending on where you are. Thought it was about time I contributed to /sales. I've been a long term lurker, working in sales the last couple of years.A Sales role is a job like no other.

I never thought about working sales for 80% of my life.

My first sales role was telesales, selling whole of the market life insurance. It was my first sales interview, so I had no idea what to expect. I researched the company, life insurance, sales in general and scrutinised my C.V. I strolled in, pretty scared.

The Sales Manager was there. Deputy Sales manager. He gave me the age old "You have no direct sales experience. Why do you think you'd be a good fit for this role?"

I flipped the script. "Are most of the people you hire experienced sales professionals? A skilled professional can hit the ground running but trying to get rid of their bad habits can be fruitless. I have ambition, I aim to immerse myself in your culture and aim to be considered a subject matter expert within the next 3-5 months. From there, the sky is the limit."

He asked me where I wanted to be in two years time. My fear had disappated and we had strong rapport so in a light tone, I said "I'd be aiming to be sales manager. "

I got the job. They hired me the same day. I learned a lot about sales. How to manage leads. How to schedule appointments. How you handle rejection. How to come back and be top sales person after a "bad" first week. I unfortunately ended up not working there for more than 6 months due to the company folding.

I ended up in a telemarketer role for an energy company. You could not sell the product without misselling. Top sales people all did it. I chose not to defraud a customer for the sake of business. Management were prehistoric and old fashioned. Threatened people that they would be canned today, if they didn't get 6 sales. Drug addiction was everywhere. People drank and gambled money away.

I left with a sour taste towards telesales. Thought about moving away from the field altogether. Then I realised something important.

Sales isn't about closing deals with every prospect. I love money as much as any sales person. Sales to me is a professional problem solver. I then realised I didn't have to be "the slimy serpentine demon who defrauds customers".

I have been in my current role for 3 months. I've been top seller the past few months running. My manager is one of the best I've had and I balance the best of both worlds. Face to face and telesales. August I ended up on 160% of target I aim to reach 170-180% this month. I'm content here for now but after being here a year or two, I want to make a move into B2B.

Thanks for all the info and advice.

Never had a sales job. 19, just graduated.

    Posted: 01 Sep 2018 10:48 PM PDT

I'm 19, graduated highschool in 2017 and have never made a sale.

How do I get into the game.

I've always wanted to be a sales man and have always been told I'd be good at it. They make bank and don't require at great moral compass? Sounds great!

    But I'm only 19.

How do I make a lasting impression in my interviews? (How do I sell myself to my interviewer?)

    Help with door-to-door market research

    Posted: 01 Sep 2018 01:20 PM PDT

Greetings. I have to do a market research targeted to retail shops (~500) in the central area of the city where I live, in Italy. Obviously, not everyone will be available, so I expect much less than 500 interviews. So far, I haven't a better idea than just sweeping the area door to door. However, I am a bit afraid of being rejected by busy merchants. Could you please suggest a few good openers and anything else that could make this a great experience? Let me add that I am at my first experience and that I look forward to convert these contacts into future customers. Thanks.
