(WA) Neighbor who took cringe pictures with my car ia threatening me for “ruining his reputation” Posted: 02 Sep 2018 07:32 AM PDT Y'all, the saga continues. I'm on mobile and don't know how to link my previous post but here's a summary: an idiotic neighbor kept taking pictures of and with my vehicle in our underground garage and posted them on social media claiming the car is his. I thought this dumbass needs a dose of online shaming so here's what I did. His social media accounts have a pretty high followership (10-12k) and as others suggested, he is indeed some kind of "guru" scammers. I don't really wanna say what type of scammer for privacy reasons (not that he deserves any). Well, I only have Twitter so I took it there. During his last photoshoot with my car, I took a few photos for evidence. I chose one of those pictures, tagged him in the tweet and wrote: "I see [his handle] loves my car. That's cool but would be nice if he didn't try to brag about a car he doesn't own. This is him during one of the photoshoots in our shared garage." Of course, it didn't take long until 1) dude deleted ALL the pictures of my car and 2) contacted me to threaten a lawsuit for libel (?) if I don't apologize to HIM publicly for embarrassing him in front of his "fans" and delete said Tweet. My ass was laughing so hard. I didn't reply which seemed to only piss him off even more because he was sending me angry emojis and curse words. I should also that my tweet gained traction and has around 120 replies and 300 RTs (I'm getting famous too!). Mostly, people are bashing him and saying what a retard he is. Others started making fun of his other posts (eg "I'm starting to doubt he actually ate at that restaurant. Probably just took a picture and left"). Moreover, this scammer apparently claimed on social media that he lives on a mansion on Lake Washington and some of the commenters put two and two together and realized that he is actually my neighbor and there is no mansion. This dude basically says that it is my fault that all these people are making fun of him and that I am destroying his business (?). I'm not particularly afraid of his lawsuit and my lease ends next month after which I will be moving out so I don't really care. My question is, did I do something legally wrong? Can that be considered libel? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Friends wife accusing my 9 year old daughter of rape? Posted: 01 Sep 2018 07:00 PM PDT I live in Florida and while a friend was visiting. his wife who he is divorcing called him concerned that my 9 year old daughter touched his 4 year old daughters "pee pee". We spoke to my daughter over the phone ( she is with Grandma) and hers. My daughter says it didn't happen. His daughter says it didn't happen. Do I have anything I should do to protect myself/daughter? Also tonight she came to my home trying to get his daughter and when I called the police she left. Edit: wasn't expecting this many replies thank you. To clarify the 9yo is female (my step daughter) and the 4 yo is female as well. We have the kids of multiple friends over all the time and none have ever made allegations like this. We have decided that during their custody case that when my friend has his daughter we just won't hangout or allow the kids too. It sucks because his daughter even last night while this was happening was asking for my step daughter to come play. But while these allegations are made we will play it safe [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2018 08:03 AM PDT They took a garnishment from the incorrect check and sent an email to everyone who pays the garnishment letting us know that they're correcting it on the next check. Problem is they included us all on the CC line and we now have visibility to who pays child support. I now have people who didn't know I have a child asking me about it. This is a humiliation to me to where I might quit to save face and I know I'm not alone. Do I have a course of action here? [link] [comments] |
[Colorado] Guy threatening my family to my mother Posted: 02 Sep 2018 08:25 AM PDT My mom asked me to get a bunch of viruses off her computer today. Found a folder titled, "Sins of my Children" and opened it. Found weird poetry and IRC chat logs of some guy offering to kill my wife and me. They seemed to be in some sort of online relationship. Half the chat was sappy love promises, the rest was her telling him about all the ways my brother and I have wronged her. Nearly everything was a lie. The accusations were insane. She gave this guy my address and a shit ton of personally identifying information about me and my wife. And he said he knew people who could "take care of us" for her, to show his devotion or shit. She agreed and there was a conversation negotiating prices. I understand he's probably bullshitting but the whole thing was deranged. The dude also doesn't live too far from me either based on what he said, a few hours drive. My wife is pregnant (this was one of my many "sins" apparently having my own child means I'm replacing my mom) and I am not risking of some psycho who knows my address showing up here if I can help it. Is this serious enough to be reportable to cops or would they laugh me out of the station? Does it constitute a threat legally speaking? I took screenshots that I emailed to myself, so I have evidence if so. How should I deal with this? (And yeah, relationship with mom will be a lot more distant now.....) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2018 08:04 AM PDT I live in a small town of about 2k residents, and for the past two years I have been stalked by a group of teenagers (I am in my mid 20's) who harass me because I have refused to purchase them alcoholic beverages. They follow me, throw rocks, and threaten me. The police say that there isn't much that they can do. Within the past month, I heard that they robbed and beat up one of their crew so badly he had to go to the hospital. I believe that they were arrested. Well, two days ago I was sitting by myself in a secluded spot that I go to when I want to be away from people and they appeared out of nowhere. One of them tried to cover my mouth with a bag while the others tried to knock me down by kicking and throwing punches. I screamed for help and broke free. I informed the police and made my statement, but I don't have much proof besides being able to identify one of them and the whole surrounding neighborhood having heard my screams for help. Is there any way that I can legally protect myself? I don't think that a restraining order against them would stop them. They apparently have zero fear of legal reprocussions and their parents seem to not be concerned about letting them roam around town after being arrested for violent crime. Can I pursue legal action against the parents? I really am scared to be outside of my house alone. [link] [comments] |
Currently opening a new restaurant, and we are being flooded with fake reviews (NY) Posted: 02 Sep 2018 09:38 AM PDT About 5 months ago a very popular dive bar in Syracuse was shut down. Without going into specifics, the tenants did not get a renew on the lease. The building was left in disrepair, as was the relationship between tenant and landlord. [link] [comments] |
(MA) Sister in Law is trying to take our cat Posted: 02 Sep 2018 10:29 AM PDT My husband's 30 year old sister moved in with us earlier this year after she broke up with her boyfriend and didn't have anywhere to go. We have a small house and told her she can only stay until the end of the year to get back on her feet (but that's a whole other story for another day/post). She suffers from depression and anxiety and used to self-harm. She recently came home from therapy and announced that her therapist asked her to come up with a "safety plan" to keep her from self harming again, and her safety plan involves our cat. That night I told my husband I suspected she was trying to lay down the groundwork to take our cat with her when she moves. He said he didn't think she would do that to us. A few days later, she brought up her "safety plan" again and elaborated further that our cat is the only source of joy in her life and she doesn't know what she would do without him. I played dumb and agreed that he is a pretty great cat and she should try to find one like him when she moves. Then she said it - "or I could just take him with me..." I said absolutely not. I reminded her that my husband found him as a stray kitten a decade ago and loves him almost as much as me. She kept going on about how she needs him more than we do, and joked that she's going to run away with him. I told her in no uncertain terms that she will not be taking our cat. She pouted and went in her room. I don't think it will come to this, but if she does actually take him while we're away at work or something, what are our recourses/options? Edit: pet tax! Here are a couple of pictures of the cat in question. Be gentle, he has deformed paws. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2018 05:58 PM PDT New York. University. 3 people are involved. Me (17F), my classmate (18F), and an autistic roommate (18?F). We started school recently and I got roomed with an autistic roommate who's in a wheelchair (A). She was ok at first but watches porn on full volume at our room a lot. I have to tell her to turn it down or use earbuds. It wasn't a big problem. Our room is placed so that I can see her computer monitor very clearly but I let her do whatever she wants. I'm not sure how to act near autistic people so I pretty much just greet her and make small conversations. Last week, it was really late at night and I was reading but something caught my attention. Usually her porn doesn't bother me but I saw some disgusting stuff that I never want to ever see again. I told our RA and they launched an investigation against her. They soon dropped it and chalked it up to her being autistic (wtf?). And that I should just tell her to turn it off if I ever see her watching it again. Then two days ago, I walked into the bathroom. They were the last in line. And I saw A looking under B's skirt and about to poke B down there. So I was like "A, what the fuck are you doing" and B realized what A was doing and was horrified. A started crying but I couldn't understand her. I want to report her to the police but I'm afraid that the university is going to brush it off by using the "autistic" excuse. I've seen people on Reddit saying they're autistic so that means A was fully conscious of what she's doing and autism is not an excuse, right? I'm so afraid of getting in trouble with the university and I'm not comfortable with rooming with A anymore. What do I do? [link] [comments] |

Help- fired ar 9 am, told to move out by 5 pm- what do I do? Posted: 02 Sep 2018 08:47 AM PDT So my housing is provided by my employer who as the title states, fired me this morning at 9 am and told me I needed to be out by 5 pm tonight. It's Sunday. On a holiday weekend. I cannot find an affordable hotel as my funds are extremely limited and I do not have a vehicle. I'm panicked and not only responsible for myself but also my partner who I moved out with me. Again any advice is welcomed. [link] [comments] |
My mom was almost killed because of an undercover cop Posted: 01 Sep 2018 06:48 PM PDT Hi reddit, I'm posting this on my phone so I'm sorry if any of the formatting is incorrect. Here's my best attempt on a quick summary of what happened to my mom and the kind of advice I'm seeking. So we live in Ontario, Canada, and my mom works at a large, densely populated, busy mall. Recently, she parked he car in the designated area for employees and began walking towards the crosswalk in order to enter the mall. This is when all of the sudden, in the middle of rush hour, in a busy parking lot, a man stops his car in the middle of the road, got out, and pointed his gun DIRECTLY at my mother. My mom froze in place before the crosswalk, immobilized by fear. After that, out of no where, my mom heard a terrible screeching noise that snapped her out of the trance, and she ran for her life into the mall. She later learned that the screech came from another car speeding by, making a tight turn that almost ran over my mom, killing her. As it turns out, the man with the gun was an undercover cop. He did not make this clear to anyone in the crowd of people, my mom included, walking towards the mall. The security of the mall sat my mom down, explaining to her that the police were expecting a weapon/drug bust to go down, and they knew that a certain car (the one that whipped by my mom) was going to be there, and my mom happened to be in the line of fire between the car and the undercover cop. They showed her a security tape of the incident, where she was informed that the car was cutting it close, and had she not ran, she would have been hit. The security ended up apologizing to her, and jokingly said they should use this incident as a training example of how cops should not act. Now, as you can imagine, my mom is traumatized. She was at gunpoint and almost killed. To her knowledge, the undercover cop could have been a homicidal maniac. She came home bawling her eyes out. What if the cop fired shots? What if someone rear ended his car, startling him, leading him to press the trigger? Too many things could have gone wrong here. She wants to know if any legal action can be taken. Can she receive compensation? [link] [comments] |
Restaurant i work at has questionable practices going on. Posted: 02 Sep 2018 10:44 AM PDT i work at a privately owned steakhouse in illinois. i am female. when i was hired i was not informed that only females will work the cocktail dining side. on cocktail we pool our tips. the other servers do not pool their tips. since there are only four females on staff i work cocktail basically every day and get no opportunities to make my own money. if i did not have a vagina i would be on the serving side making my own money. is it legal to do this to the females that work at the restaurant? is this a legal practice? also, cocktail is a physically strenuous shift. we are responsible for putting away the entire patio which consists of 20 heavy tables and 100 patio chairs. so basically every night i am doing this by myself after all the tables are gone for the evening. then i am required to clean the entire cocktail area and roll silverware. during this time that i am doing sidework i am a) not earning any tips as the guests are no longer coming in and b) still on the clock splitting what little tips we have earned for the night. i also see coworkers constantly doing hours-long cleaning tasks after private parties where they are hauling heavy duty tables & chairs in and out of our private dining room with absolutely no assistance from anyone, and this is hours after any tables are even in the restaurant so they're not making tips...they're on the clock at 4.50/hr doing extremely strenuous physical labor just like me when i'm out there getting paid $4.50/hr to carry loads of heavy weight back and forth with no assistance. if i want assistance with patio i have to offer money to someone. also my director of operations will openly go into the system and adjust tip claims made by us so that the restaurant does not get audited. basically what she does is looks at your total amount of credit card tips on your checkout at the end of the night, and if you don't claim equal to or greater than that amount, she'll go in and change it later. keep in mind that just because my checkout says i made $100 in credit card tips doesn't even mean that money went in my pocket, because that amount does not reflect tipouts to the bartender(1%) and busser (2%). so a lot of the time she's going in and claiming more for me than i actually made. some of my pay stubs say i made $1,000 during a time period when i know that is just absolutely false. is this all legal? what steps of action do i take if i can do anything to change this? Accused of catnapping my own cat? Posted: 02 Sep 2018 12:54 AM PDT [Washington state, USA] Hi I'm the proud owner of two cats, both very loving and always ready to greet me at the door. I would have three, but my grandmother has taken my oldest one and refuses to let me have him back. I wanted a cat in middle school, so my dad got me one. Because I was a minor, there was no way I could have paid for the vet bills or anything. He still slept in my room every night, and I did what I could to take care of him without paying for stuff. I'm 19 now, and was living with my grandma until a couple months ago. I took one of my cats and adopted another after I moved into my new home. New cat has already adjusted considering he's not exactly shy. I went back recently to get the third one only to be met with my grandma telling me if I took him she would call the cops and take me to court. She lives by herself and suffers from old age, completely unable to move at times and I think she might be developing mental issues but I'm not a doctor. I'm moving out of state soon and want to resolve this if I can before then. Would I have a chance of winning him in a civil court? [link] [comments] |

[NY] Can I send a cease and desist letter for libelous statements on Facebook? Posted: 02 Sep 2018 04:13 AM PDT The admins of a very large group (now over 8,000 members strong) have started to make libelous statements about me and my business (things like "her clients are having legal trouble with her" and "she partakes in illegal business practices" and "now her own clients have legal issues of their own because of her" and "her clients have lost citizenship because of her"). I saw a man whose name I recognize as a potential client of mine with whom I have been e-mailing back and forth and to whom I've already sent a contract answer the post (I was only sent a screenshot) stating that he would not use my business now. None of this is true. My clients are not having legal trouble because of my actions and I am not engaged in illegal activities. Their citizenship is also not in question! I work in a very niche industry where word of mouth is VERY strong. This could be potentially life-damaging stuff for me if word got out enough. I get the bulk of my clientele from referrals from this group. A) Can I send a cease and desist letter for this? and B) How do I find the addresses of these people to send them? Thanks, all. Posted: 02 Sep 2018 11:10 AM PDT Hello ladies and gentlemen, To clarify I am a British guy whom was offered a job in CA, the company which I won't disclose their name as of yet offered me a position to be an intern. An executive member of staff offered me the job via email. During the negotiation period conducted by the same member of staff the CEO messaged informing me that the position had now been changed from in-office to remote, having been originally told that the position was in-office I argued the point saying that you offered me an in-house role thereby I believe it is fair that you honor your decision. However, she emailed me back saying that an agreement could not be made despite another member of the executive team offering me a full time internship - a truly monumental dog shit communication issue. To rub salt in the wounds the CEO then replied to my next email in which I displayed proof of a job offer and evidence of flights which I had cancelled (I was originally going to travel to Brazil to see friends - then was offered the job so I cancelled it as the opportunity was great). She replied saying, "I don't believe we have made any offer to you". Thereby, making an attempt to avoid responsibility in regards to refunding my flights and wasting my time. If anyone has any background in law in the U.S. could you please let me know if I have any legal ground here, it would be massively appreciated!! [link] [comments] |
Neighbours constantly checking if my door is unlocked Posted: 01 Sep 2018 09:45 PM PDT My neighbours who are seemingly new to Toronto, usually during their loud excessive parties check my door if it's unlocked at least once every night. They check the door to my room which leads to our shared fire escape. I'm not sure what I can do to make them stop since they don't speak english very well and never really respect the neighbourhood hence the loud parties that go on to the next morning. They also tend to smoke on the fire escape and in their home which makes my side smell like cigarettes and sometimes triggers my asthma making it difficult to sleep. [link] [comments] |
State consent laws and a terrible lying “18” yr old Posted: 02 Sep 2018 07:01 AM PDT (us, Florida ) I met this guy online for about two years, he is in college and holds a job so I always assumed he was 18 as he was always showing college papers and never in school during hs hours, nonetheless he flies over to meet me and then I get police at my door at 5am saying his mom is on the phone and he's actually 16! What the hell can do to protect myself [link] [comments] |
(NM) Girlfriend found in posession of weed Posted: 02 Sep 2018 09:30 AM PDT Last night my girlfriend (17) was dropping her friend off at her house, after the friend smoked, she did not smoke and was not high. She was just leaving back to her dorm when she was pulled over by a campus police officer. The officer found a pipe and the weed in her car and wrote her a citation. It was a very small amount of weed, 1g. She is really freaking out. What are some possible outcomes? How will it change because she is under 18? And is there any way that this will not stay on her record? Any feedback would be a great help! I have no previous experience with offense such as this, nor has she. Thank you! tl;dr. 17 year old girlfriend pulled over with 1g of weed. [link] [comments] |
[Tx] Daughter fell at school and Broke her arm Posted: 02 Sep 2018 08:31 AM PDT This may be a better question for r/insurance. Not sure so here goes.. my 7yo daughter fell off the monkey bars at school on Friday and has broken both bones in her arm. Up through Friday I had Medicaid, so her bills for the ER should be fully covered. But starting Saturday my insurance for my new job started and I have my own policy, which means deductibles and copays. My biggest concern is that they just set her arm in the ER and she still has to go to a specialist. She can't even move her fingers without pain so the ER said she may have nerve damage and so the chances of her needing surgery are higher. My daughter says her thumb feels like rubber. If she does have to go through surgery and what not, does the school district have a liability or responsibility to pay for those expenses not covered by my insurance? I am not looking for a big pay out or anything, but she's been in school 2 weeks this term and it's the second week she's come home with an injury (the first was very minor, but was caused by her teacher not observing where she was telling the children to stand during a fire drill and this caused my kid and another to get eaten up on her legs all the way to her bottom by ants). The school did everything right after the unjury. They called us right away and they didn't allow her to eat or drink so she could get treatment as quickly as possible. I am just asking about her medical expenses beyond what will be covered because this could be very expensive. I honestly didn't know that the school had monkey bars on the playground as it's a new school for us and I haven't seen it. I thought they were generally considered unsafe because of these types of injures. [link] [comments] |
Prenup advice for a guy who wants to marry millionaire GF Posted: 01 Sep 2018 11:26 AM PDT [USA] Hey guys, my girlfriend and I have been dating for 3 years now and the topic of marriage has been brought up a lot recently. I really love her and she loves me back, we both want to get married. My gf is VERY successful and she is required to travel A LOT for work. When we first started dating this wasn't a problem, I would just FaceTime her when she was gone and since we were just getting to know each other, we could easily spend weeks apart with no real concerns. But as our relationship grew she expressed how she really doesn't want to be alone in foreign countries, and how it would be great if I came with her. Sounds amazing, right? It really is, and I had no problem leaving with her, but my employer at the time said "hey we can't have you taking vacation for 2 weeks every month, we need someone we can depend on." So I spoke with my GF about it and that's when we decided to take a huge step forward in our relationship. I quit my job to travel the world with her, I moved out of my place and into her much nicer house/neighborhood. We agreed that I could be more beneficial to our life together if I stopped giving 8+ hours to my job that makes a fraction of what she makes financially. I help her take care of her kid, I help her clean, and do lots of other things that benefit our life, and that makes life so much better than an extra $2000 a month from my old job. But when talking about marriage, the thought of divorce always is in my mind. I am okay with the fact that I gave up everything that I was working for, so I could help. It wasn't much to give up, and if we broke up right now, I would be okay with having nothing. However, in 25 years from now, I don't want nothing when I'm 50, and that's what scares me about divorce with a prenup. If I stayed working my shitty paying job until I was 50 I would at least have something I know how this sounds to other people, I am lucky as fuck and I shouldn't feel entitled (I really don't) but it makes me scared. I have expressed how I feel to her before and she says if I feel this way then I can get a job, but she doesn't want to have to travel alone and she really doesn't want that. She even said she wouldn't sign a prenup because she knows who I really am. I don't know anything about prenups, but if we got divorced, I don't deserve half of what she has earned. Can someone smarter than me please help me with my situation? [link] [comments] |
Do our neighbors have to pay for damage if their tree falls on our house ? Posted: 02 Sep 2018 02:24 AM PDT I live in Germany. Our neighbors have 2 huge firs. Since we have very strong wind sometimes and they've been standing there for ages, I was wondering what would happen if one of them fell on our house. Would we need a special insurance or would they/ their insurance need to pay for it ? [link] [comments] |
My wife wants a divorce and she has $350k in student loans. (Florida) Posted: 02 Sep 2018 01:03 PM PDT She is a resident and currently earning about $15k less than me. She has 2 more years of residency and probably 1 more year of fellowship before she starts making real money. We have been married since undergrad, 7 years. In an equitable distribution state does that mean I would be saddled with this debt and no way to pay it? We have a daughter of which I am the primary caregiver due to her crazy schedule. What are my options? [link] [comments] |
