Scraping data from an other site for my own app? Posted: 14 Jan 2022 11:17 AM PST I've got an idea for an app and I'm thinking about scraping some data from another website. The content on the other website is "available under GNU Free Documentation License 1.2." The website contains images of media and it's basically like a catalogue and so unsurprisingly it has a disclaimer like this on its site: "Any of the trademarks, service marks, collective marks, design rights, personality rights or similar rights that are mentioned, used or cited in the articles of *** are the property of their respective owners." The data/images will always be accessible for free. I'm not planning to make money off the app immediately though I may try to generate some revenue from ads to minimise my costs and consider turning the app into a business if there's sufficient users. Illegal? Immoral? What do people think of me doing this? My main reason for doing this is because I think I can provide better value with the data. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Jan 2022 10:46 PM PST I want to hire a #2... Meaning someone to backfill me with an emphasis on marketing and QA But capable of doing nearly anything. I'm hired about 50 folks in my career, half good, half less good. I've hired execs (including a CEO) and all sorts of positions, but I've never done this, nor have I had an admin. I think I need an ambitious, fast learning, high energy, coachable sort.... Im not trying to complement myself as much as extend myself. I'm in Fintech. Any advice. Need to get this one right. When do you change your strategy and how long should it take to develop your first app? Posted: 13 Jan 2022 08:56 PM PST I and my co-founder are a couple of college students and we are working on our first major project, that we hope to turn into a startup one day. We began with the ideation and planning on September 2021 and till now there have been loads of issues like team members leaving due to commitment issues and college messing with our timeline. We have completed our UI design mockup on Figma but have barely started developing the app. Any words of advice? [link] [comments] |
