    Employee (Highly) Suspected of Theft

    Posted: 18 Jan 2022 10:21 PM PST

I've got an employee that handles/sorts packages for residents of a large luxury rental building.

Ever since he started 3 incidents of suspected thefts occurred (across 2 buildings) - it's important to note that before this employee began, we operated for 2.5 years without incident. 2/3 incidents involve a resident's laptop going missing in the package room (despite carriers showing them being delivered). The last incident was around luggage that went missing.

After these incidents, we filed our own internal incident reports and are in the process of going through insurance for 1 of the laptops (which I paid $2.2k directly to the resident until insurance does its bureaucratic dance).

There's been a 4th incident involving this employee (this time with strong video evidence that shows him concealing yet another laptop package offscreen and exiting the premises after his shift with his coat appearing to conceal the package).

How would the community handle this? I'm not sure I want to do anything drastic as he's the primary breadwinner for his 3 girls but we're in a very compromised position. We've lost a lot of faith from our landlord clients during these past few months. Has anyone dealt with this before? Police? Wage garnishment? Lawsuit?

Thank you all in advance for your time. Location: New York, New York (if that matters).

    ===============Edit #1 - Thoughts on Approach.

My initial gut instinct is to sit the employee down and be candid. I'm certain he believes it's a harmless crime (that a huge corporation like Amazon or Apple just deals with it). I want to present him with the evidence and give him the option to come clean. If he returns the laptop that went missing (on 1/17/22) and pays back damages for the other 2 missing laptops - we'll give him another shot (not in any position where he'd be handling packages though). He's a father of 3 and I know he's a decent albeit stupid kid (30). Am I being naive by thinking a redemption opportunity can cement a really loyal hire? The employee is extremely hardworking and has a great attitude (aside from the obvious risks).

My wife (who runs hiring) thinks we need to cut things off swiftly & decisively as u/jayc428 mentioned below. You guys are animals and I really respect it.

    ===============Edit #2 - The only right path.

Yeah. It's 2:30am EST - just finished writing up the theft incident report. Thank you all for helping clear a little bit of this fog of war. I've always told myself that I'd be a conscientious businessman - that I'd always opt to do what is morally right. In this case, I thought empathy might save a man his job and his family some security. I realize that the concept, "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" was too shortsighted in me. If I can scale even a week faster because this friction is behind me, I'll have created more jobs & security than this single incident.

Thank you all. Grind on brothers, sisters & everyone in between.

Venturenet partners fraudulent schemes. RANDELL YOUNG, JEFF CATES, MATT GRUNSEICH, JOSHUA COMSTOCK, , MATT BRASS, ANDREW LECHARD

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 12:55 AM PST

I would like to share my experience of being scammed by fraudsters impersonating Srisawad , so called Thai investor.

Fraudsters run multiple fraudulent schemes nevertheless they are all under control of the same people. All set up in USA.

People identified and in charge of the scheme , http://venturenet.partners/, JEFF CATES, MATT GRUNSEICH, JOSHUA COMSTOCK, RANDELL YOUNG, MATT BRASS, ANDREW LECHARD, OICTH UPFRONT LLC Scammers defraud victims by applying various advanced fee fraud Schemes by promising credit , loan , investment offering were they manipulate the victim to make the payment into their account in the name of sham companies created for use in the scheme. Scammers and other participants associated with the fraud schemes contact victims, who often are looking to fundraise the capital for their business, scammers impersonate the investor , insurance, banker and falsely claim that they are ready to invest in victims business. Then they tell the victim that he or she needs to wire or otherwise transmit money to the escrow account allegedly associated with investment proposal and money will be safe there in case investment didn't occur. These claims of scammers are false and fraudulent, as the members of the schemes know that there is no investment or investor, no insurance, no banker and that there is no need for the victim to wire fees associated with investment.

Fraudsters also run range of the scam websites offering sham escort services, various crypto currency scams, fake transnational delivery services, fake visa services, fake medical supplies services.

Statute of Limitation of fraud in US 2-4 years , so many international defrauded victims simply after loosing substantial amount of money do not have courage to fight back.

Fraudsters implement of a wide series of the websites, so they have multiple source of income from various fraud schemes. All hosted by the same IT guys in the team.

Opinions on a resume writing side hustle

    Posted: 18 Jan 2022 11:40 PM PST

Honest opinions please! Recently I moved to a regional/rural area away from my city hometown. With some free time on my hands the last few days, an idea for an online business I can run from home, offering quality and reasonably priced resumes (plus cover letters, selection criteria and the rest) that I've been toying with for a few years has resurfaced and now I'm seriously thinking about giving it a go. In a previous career life I was a recruiter (for 8+ years), I've viewed thousands of resumes for hundreds of jobs so I have a fair idea of what defines the good, the bad and the ugly of job applications. More importantly, I've got what I consider a knack for crafting resumes, and writing in general (have helped out family and friends a number of times with their resumes, projects, essays) plus qualifications in HR, if that gives me any kind of edge at all. I'd like to offer this service to assist people from all walks of life, young people entering the workforce, graduates, people who've changed careers or are re-entering the workforce, and everything in between.

I've done some initial research on similar businesses in my area and it does seem to be a heavily saturated market already. Lots of "Resume Professionals" and "ABC Resumes" type listings. Even with the low capital and start up costs involved (aside from my time obviously), I'm hesitant that it might be foolish to embark on a venture of this kind... If you have any solid advice to offer I'd love to hear it!

I launched a digital media company that specializes in content curation as well as publishing articles. The goal for this is to be the place you go to find new Comedy Specials, Movies, or TV Shows to watch. What are good places to promote this type of business? Any other tips?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2022 11:28 PM PST

www.BrandNewLogic.com is a digital media publishing company. It specializes in content curation with dedicated pages for Movies, Shows, Comedy Specials, Quotes, Memes, Products, Services, Advice, and Vocab Word of The Day. Another big component of the site is the Articles section, publishing articles on a variety of different topics.
I have a two part goal for the website. Part one is to have regular repeat visitors. There will be two types of people coming to the website. One type of person will check the website multiple times a week. These people would come to see what is new, such as articles, songs, memes, art or vocab. The other type of person is one who will check the website about once a week. These people would come for the recommendations, if they need a good comedy special, movie or tv show to watch.

Part two of the goal is to have a constant flow of new traffic coming from articles. Because the articles will be on a variety of different topics I will be bringing in traffic from many different sources.

I will grow the repeat visitor user base by converting the new users coming for the articles into repeat users. This will be accomplished by including "ads" onto articles that will recommend the other sections of the website to the readers.

Is the combination of Google Sites and Google Groups sufficient for a user forum?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2022 10:35 PM PST

I'm trying to start a new web service.

I'd like to create a place for user inquiries, bug reports, discussions, etc. I'd like to start out free of charge.

Some developers have used GitHub as a forum, but I'm thinking of combining Google Sites and Google Groups in the way shown on this page.

What do you guys think? Do you have any recommendations for free forums?

Does anyone know of an app that will let me make a template that I can insert photos into?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2022 09:54 PM PST

I'm trying to mimic color swatches on a collection page of a website. I'm building a website, and using a "free theme" that doesn't have color swatches.

I can make the photos that show the "main item" and then display the different colors it comes in at the bottom with small squares.

My problem comes in when I try to make the squares all the same size, across the various items.

So for example, if we have a "crew neck tee" the color swatch squares are all the same size on that image—and if we have a "v neck tee" the color swatch squares are all the same size on that image. The problem is that the crew neck and v neck squares are not the same size as each other.

    Thanks!

    Posted: 18 Jan 2022 09:35 PM PST

Hey, hope all of you are doing fine. I need your suggestions in setting up my business. Basically, I am going to start creating an android and web-based invoice-making application, where my main goal is to make it cost-friendly, so I need suggestions what are the requirements of other small businesses in this aspect, as my main target is to develop a sustainable product for them.

Hope to get some great opinions and ideas.

How much to charge my first US client?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2022 09:26 PM PST

Hello everyone, I was contacted today by a software development company from the US, and they're really interested in my services as a digital agency. I know personally one of the founders from childhood and when he knew I was starting an agency he gave me a call.

I'm from South America, so obviously they contacted me because it's much more affordable to hire an agency from here than one from the US. This means I can't really charge the same as someone local, but I also don't want to work for too little.

I really want to work with them because I've never worked with a client of this size (usually I work with restaurants, local ecommerce stores, etc.).

They are a software development agency. They do apps, webs, MVPs for startups, etc. and are known to give incredible services. They told me most of their leads currently come from word of mouth, which they're trying to change.

I'm gonna offer them the services of running ads (Facebook, YouTube, Google and LinkedIn) and creating a content marketing strategy. They currently create content but with no real strategy behind. I may post the creative on social media too, although I'm not sure about that yet.

Their budget for ads is 5k a month and they want to capture qualified leads and do branding.

So my question is how much do you think I should charge? I usually charge a flat monthly fee with no long term contracts (minimum 3 months verbal agreement), which means it can change if the business grows a lot and the budget increases a lot and there's very little risk for the client if they want to look for someone else. They told me a flat fee was fine.

And if you have any tips of things I should do, advice, etc. it's more than welcome. What would you do with this business?

    Thanks!

    COGS Budgetting

    Posted: 18 Jan 2022 09:08 PM PST

    Hello,

We've been running a pet shop for 6 months now and one puzzle we haven't figured out is how much to budget for purchase of new items. There is no question about reorders but what about new items that we have yet to test in our markets. Is there a formula to to this? Would appreciate insights.

    First year results?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2022 09:02 PM PST

I started a lawn and landscaping business at the beginning of 2021. Just curious if more seasoned small business owners results. I stared my "side hustle" at the beginning of last year and made ~$12,000 gross revenue. Basically everything I made went back into buying commercial grade equipment. I am up for a promotion at my full time job which will cut my availability in half for the lawn business. Basically idk what to do. My promotion will take me to ~$43,000. But it'll cut my lawn care business time in half due to a new schedule. Idk what to do. The promotion will look good on a resume but I see more of a potential working for myself. Has anyone ever passed on a promotion to build their business? I'd figure my business would bring around $20,000 this year if I don't take the promotion.

Edit: I spent 15-20 hours a week for 6 months to generate that revenue. I'll be going from $38,000 to $43,000 for my promotion. I also have a wife and newborn at home so time spent working is important. With the promotion my hours will change only allowing half(7.5-10) to be spent on the lawn business.

    Insurance sales audit

    Posted: 18 Jan 2022 08:13 PM PST

Why does my insurance company need to know my annual sales? I dont want to give it to them because Im suspicious that all they'll do is raise my rate based on sales but never lower it.
