Earned Premium vs. Written Premium Posted: 15 Jan 2022 05:46 PM PST I am looking to invest in some insurance companies and have been reading their annual reports but having a hard time with the terminology. I googled earned vs. written and what I get is that written premiums are what the policy holders agree to pay for the policy at the time it's bound. And earned are the actual earnings. So going by that logic, would earned premiums always be lower than written premiums at any given period of time? [link] [comments] |
Employer is Requiring Liability Insurance for Independent Contracting Posted: 15 Jan 2022 06:10 PM PST |
Posted: 15 Jan 2022 07:09 PM PST hi all, so in december my health insurance accidently charged me 2 times and was denying seeing the duplicate charge so I contacted my bank and they refunded me then a couple weeks later the insurance refunded me so basically I got 2 refunds. I also ended the coverage and then started another plan with the same company and paid my premium so my coverage starts in February. Everything was fine till I logged in now and saw that my plan is cancelled and it shows my new premium payment and is also asking me to pay the December payment (since I received 2 refunds) which is understandable. Since I cannot speak with anyone in the insurance since it is the weekend, If I just pay the prev balance owed then my coverage should start right? I mean even though I paid the premium for 2022 it says my plan is cancelled most likely due to the December balance? Is this even a huge issue or am I overthinking?? Edit: since the last day to enroll is Jan 15th and even though I paid my premium for 2022 already, I am going to make the voided December payment today (the 15th) to avoid my membership being cancelled. Even though they may not receive the payment till Monday, I should still be fine right since I paid on the 15th [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Jan 2022 02:35 PM PST Days later, Adjuster wouldn't accept what was said to her and put us at 100% fault (have proof via audio recording). Shouldn't it be at least 50/50? Anyways, insurance rate multiplied around 2x to a considerable price and so switching insurances was the only option. (Did so a couple months later, rate was over $200 cheaper) Is what happened normal? Is it okay? [link] [comments] |
Do I need to contact other person’s insurance after car accident? Posted: 15 Jan 2022 06:42 PM PST I sideswiped someone's car and we exchanged information. I got documents in the mail from my insurance(Mercury) and also, their insurance(progressive) sent me a letter stating that they want me to contact them about completing the claim investigation. Do I need to contact them? Plus, my claim agent told me she will call me the other day at a given time and never called me back. Should I call her or wait? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Jan 2022 10:28 PM PST So from what I'm aware of, our state has a 30/60/25 auto limit for liability. I was involved in a Not At Fault car accident where my medical bills exceeded the 30k personal injury limit the offending party has. My attorney is telling me he wants to see if my insurance will cover some of the costs against my wishes, and from what I know I don't even have the PIP he's talking about because I carry liability like an idiot, but he's persistent on giving it a shot. Is this fairly normal? Will my rates possibly see an increase due to this in a not at fault accident? And is it something I can take to trial if I have clear evidence I was not at fault and I don't agree with my Lawyer using my own insurance to try to pay for the accident? How would I go about bringing that up to them? Thanks for any insight, this whole thing has been a complete nightmare. This is in Texas. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Jan 2022 11:56 AM PST Exactly what the title says, but I am now in my late fifties. Is there any way to check if there was a policy issued and would it have any value at this point? She thinks my Uncle cashed it in as he changed his name to my Great grandfathers name. The NAIC Life Insurance Policy Locator only allows to search for deceased people. Any help would be appreciated. Posted: 15 Jan 2022 04:37 PM PST 1.9 years ago I was rear ended and suffered whiplash. The other insurance company accepted total liability. Since then I have gone to chiropractors, orthopedic doctor (gotten facet joint injections in neck) and physical therapy. I have shown improvement but am not at 100 percent. Orthopedic said that they did not want to inject more since they were not sure how long effect would last and they said physical therapy is best way forward. I tried to get a personal injury attorney to represent me but they said my doctor visits were not regular and so they were not interested. When I tried to settle with the insurance company earlier, they said settle when you are at 100 percent. My 2 year limit for settlement is quickly approaching so I am just trying to settle. They are asking for doctor notes etc. Is it okay for me to submit my doctor notes to them? Like the hospital etc where I got treatment, would they raise privacy concerns? Is it possible to get an extension? Like I settle later? Also, I am not sure how to approach the fact that I am not at 100 percent still due to whiplash? Anyone have any suggestions, I would appreciate. [link] [comments] |
Randomly got Enrolled in Medi-Cal Posted: 15 Jan 2022 07:55 PM PST I live in California. For the past few months I had been getting various mailing items from Medi-Cal/Medi-Care, but being as I've been enrolled in my work's health insurance for the past 4 years, I've simply ignored them as I thought it was just a mailing list or something of the sort. However, I recently just received a welcome packet & insurance ID cards with my name and information, even with my designated health provider in Medi-Cal. Anyone have any idea as to why I got randomly enrolled in Medi-Cal if I've had health insurance through my job for the past 4 years? EDIT: I previously had MedÃ-Cal through my mother, but she had become ineligible after a while so her benefits ended years ago. Could it be possible that the system enrolled me automatically for some reason or could it be potentially identity theft? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Jan 2022 04:08 PM PST https://imgur.com/a/07Dcq1K Sorry for my terrible art Not sure if this is rhe right place to ask but I figured it's worth a try. I got into a minor accident in a parking lot and the other party is saying I'm at fault when I am clearly not. I was the car on the right side. I was backing out of my parking spot and was over 50% out of the spot, then the car on the left backed directly into the drivers side rear door of my car. How can I be at fault? Apparently I backed into them with the side of my car... They have a much more expensive car than me (tesla) and they don't want to involve insurance. Their car is also a company car if that makes any difference. Why would they not want to involve insurance? Seems suspicious. Insurance companies are known for declaring parking lot accidents 50/50 and I really want to avoid that because I don't want to take any blame. When the accident happened about 10 of their friends from other cars all jumped out saying they saw what happened and it was my fault. The "witnesses" were about 50 meters away in other cars yet they all say they saw me cause the accident which is a total lie. And yes I made sure everything was clear before I started backing out. The other car at the time was not moving. I also have 360 degree cameras and sensors. I don't want my insurance to go up for an accident I am not responsible for (insurance in British Columbia is already expensive). I don't mind not using insurance if we both pay for the damage to our own cars, but they want me to pay for theirs. Whats the best way to handle this? [link] [comments] |
I (uninsured) got into an accident. Need advice Posted: 15 Jan 2022 01:46 PM PST I was in the middle of transitioning insurance to my brother's. I canceled mine late last year and so was only covered till December 21. Last night, I was unlucky enough to get unintentionally distracted by my phone falling off my dashboard. While trying to pick it up instinctively, I didn't pay attention to the road for not more than 2 seconds (i guess the split second thing doesn't seem real till you're in a situation). It was a residential road, cars parked headlight to bumper. I collided badly with one and it moved and collides with the car in front. It was bad enough that my car was stuck to the other. So car 1 has both significant back and front damage. Car 2 has back bumper damage. My car is fucked enough to get towed. Police were called, this is not a DUI situation. I got two citations I admit complete fault in the matter (my state is a no fault state, what does this mean?) How is it looking legally for me? I'm 100% not able to cover the accident cost by myself. My car, well won't sell for much now (2016 chevy malibu lt) I can't afford to be sued. I am the main breadwinner in my family right now. This is just the worst thing financially to ever happen to me. Ideally i want to come out of this still able to stay financially afloat through the pandemic. I feel so terrible about the two cars i hit; they don't deserve it. What happens to them if they are hit by an uninsured driver? What happened if i can't pay damages? What happens to the totaled car ? ( please i would appreciate straight facts and no judging. I am suffering enough) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Jan 2022 07:37 PM PST Hello, insurance people. I posted awhile ago about my neighbor dragging their feet with our insurance, but we have recently found out (they were on the phone in the hallway while I was in the laundry room) that they have been lying about having an attorney like they were telling us and our insurance. Is this illegal? Should I share this info with my insurance? I feel like something about this is not right since she was refusing to share his info. [link] [comments] |
Car Insurance Help: I’m nervous they might suspect me of fraud! Posted: 15 Jan 2022 06:37 PM PST I'll try to make this quick. I wasn't able to drive for a few months so I cancelled my car insurance. Just got it back 2 days ago and of course this morning someone was merging into my lane almost causing a head on collision (must've been texting or looking elsewhere). I had to swerve and hit a pole. I didn't file a report or anything, I came straight home bc I'm nervous I coincidentally got insurance 2 days prior to an accident. Do you think they'll find my bad luck conveniently suspicious? Lol [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Jan 2022 06:26 PM PST I totaled my car and it has a rebuilt title, will that effect what insurance pays out? [link] [comments] |
Will auto insurance points affect my driving record? Posted: 15 Jan 2022 06:17 PM PST I was in an accident about 7 months ago I flipped my car on the highway. It was a single-vehicle accident and a police report was made. I was not cited by the officer and that was the end of it. I am applying for a job that requires you not to have had 3 moving violations on your record. My question is are DMV points and insurance points different? And do insurance points reflect on a motor vehicle report or are they just for the insurance company to determine risk and new rates? [link] [comments] |
Flood Insurance Requirement Nightmare Posted: 15 Jan 2022 10:39 AM PST Hey Everyone, this is a bit of a long story, but I'm hoping someone can provide some direction on our options. TL;DR - Mortgage company wants to charge us extra for not having flood insurance when we didn't originally need it, only found out about it recently (FEMA map change) and added it after they told us to. Can they do this? So we've lived in our home for 10+ years. The community was newly built at that time and the builder raised all the properties 7-8' to take us out of the flood zone (AE) and filed an LOMR-F to put us in X. This has been a bit of a pain since when we got our first mortgage, as well as when we refinanced about 5 years ago, we had to jump through hoops proving that we were NOT in a flood zone. Everything was fine until about a month ago. Our mortgage is with PenFed, and we got a letter from them (or more specifically I believe their outsourced insurance monitoring service mycoverageinfo.com) saying that our flood insurance had 'lapsed' and we needed to get insurance and provide proof of it in 45 days, otherwise they would purchase an expensive policy for us. The letter was dated 11/23, but we didn't get it until the first week of December. Originally, I thought it was the same old problem we had, where they didn't realize we were not in a flood zone. I called and spoke to someone, explained all this, and they said to email our documentation to [penfed@mycoverageinfo.com](mailto:penfed@mycoverageinfo.com) and someone would review it within a week. I did that, but never heard back. Around the end of December, I get a 'final notice' to buy our own flood insurance otherwise they would charge us ~$2000/year for their own. The letter was more of a plead saying that they strongly recommend us getting our own to save money. At this point, I started doing some more research on the issue and found out that FEMA redid the flood maps around August of last year and we somehow got put into a flood zone. I reached out to FEMA and they said the previous LOMR-F wasn't renewed, which was likely a mistake, and to file a LOMA request to get it fixed. Unfortunately, this process could take months and I didn't have that long. We decided to just purchase flood insurance in the interim to put the matter to rest with PenFed, and once we get the flood zone issue fixed, we could either drop it or get refunded the difference between AE and X. So we bought a policy on 1/3 for almost $1400 which went into effect on 1/4. We uploaded the info to mycoverageinfo.com and figured we were good to go at this point. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. We got a letter yesterday thanking us for showing proof of the new policy, but saying we had a 'lapse' between 10/1/2021 and 1/4/2022 and we either needed to show proof of coverage during this time or be charged $508 as a penalty. This is insane. We never had flood insurance before, never needed it before, and we got the new policy within the time period they told us to. Now they want us to magically go back in time and get it on 10/1, over two months before they ever told us about the problem. I called the number on the letter, again I think this is the outsourced company, and explained the situation. They agreed that it doesn't make sense, but said the mortgage contract requires us to have flood insurance if we are in a flood zone, etc. I said that's fine, but we weren't in one and only recently got put into one and are working to get that fixed. She said there wasn't anything she could do, but she escalated the ticket and I should get a response in about a week. I plan on sending emails out to PenFed directly to try and explain how, IMHO, this situation is ridiculous. We bought a policy we really shouldn't have needed, paid $1400 for it, and now they want to basically fine us over $500 for the period of time before they even told us about the issue. It's bad enough that we had such a large initial OOP expense, but the $500 fine is basically salt in the wound and was never once mentioned in the previous letters. Is this legal/permitted? Is there anything else we can do to dispute this extra fee if they come back refusing to remove it? The rep I spoke to kept saying "lapse" in coverage, but it wasn't a lapse since we never needed it before and followed their directions to get the situation resolved. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Medical bill before insurance termination Posted: 15 Jan 2022 03:38 PM PST Back in June 2021, I injured my ankle, and I immediately bought health insurance so I can see a specialist. When I talked to the agent over the phone, he said that I can use the insurance right away to see an orthopedic and get my ankle fixed, which is fantastic, so off I went. The clinic took my insurance, did MRI, X-ray, medical boot, crutch, and therapy for me, which is the standard services needed to be done on an injured ankle. Around November 2021, a bill came, and I saw that my insurance did not cover a single penny. When I called my insurance company, they made it difficult for the clinic to contact them (I have to 3 way our phone calls) and the bill can only be sent by mail (no fax or email). The clinic resend the bill right away & up to today, it's still pending. I checked into their members website & turns out, I was paying other insurances that I didn't ask for, such as Accident, Dental, and BetterLifeSteps (I don't know what this is, but I'm paying $125/month without knowing). The health insurance brochure only showed details of preventive care coverage, no details on the services I actually need, which also sounds fishy because it might only be preventive care insurance, which is not what I need. I've successfully canceled the dental & I'm going to cancel the Accident & BetterLifeSteps on Monday. Should I cancel their health insurance while my bill is still pending with them? I am seriously thinking of switching carrier because I don't like how they do business by tricking me into paying more premiums on coverages that I didn't ask for, knowing that I am way too focused on my ankle getting better that I neglect on checking. Will my Car Insurance cover this? Posted: 15 Jan 2022 09:37 AM PST I have StateFarm. Recently there was a huge winter storm that hit the area and my parents were driving the car to get my mom to work. On the way there, my Dad lost control of the car hitting 2 mailboxes on the side of the road because of the ice. This left a crack in the headlight casing and a small dent in the hood. Will StateFarm cover this? If so, will they need to inspect the properties that were affected? Edit: There is collision coverage on the vehicle. We are looking to cover the damage expenses done to our car. We reached out to the homeowners of the mailboxes to pay for the damage but they haven't responded. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Jan 2022 03:27 PM PST So I had brought a new car I got into an accident and it was totaled out. I am assuming the finance company has been paid as it's right now up for auction on Copart. Yet the finance company is calling me asking me for monthly payments says there is nothing noted on my account about this and they haven't been paid at all. So wtf is happening? I told the finance company after I got into a car accident what happened. The insurance paid out more than what the car was worth. Plus I had gap insurance. What do I do? [link] [comments] |
After fire loss - washer/dryer/fridge/dishwasher covered in soot. Are they "destroyed"? Posted: 15 Jan 2022 02:52 PM PST Hey, I had a fire in the living room of my house nobody home at the time). The direct fire damage was minimal (one foot hole in oak hardwood floor) but the entire house covered in a thick layer of soot. The most likely reason the fire went out is the smoke was dense enough to suffocate the fire. My question is: given that insurance is on the hook to restore my contents to the state prior to the fire, are the appliances "destroyed"? Soot is corrosive to metals so there must be microscopic but potentially significant damage to all the metal surfaces. Even if they still function now I assume their lifetime has been degraded. The appliance restoration company the insurance recommended will clean and test they still function. I would argue that's a necessary but insufficient condition to restore them to their condition prior to the fire. The lifetime is likely to be reduced and I don't want to assume responsibility for damaged equipment. Thanks for your time and advice [link] [comments] |
I was in a fender bender in a no fault state (I rear ended resulting in a little scuff) Posted: 15 Jan 2022 02:16 PM PST I was at fault. Never had one before, but an officer was also present. We contacted the owner of the vehicle and the officer asked if he'd like to make an accident report, and the owner of the other vehicle said yes. (This was on a private parking lot, not public, he mentioned that but I don't really know what difference it would make) It was an amicable experience. We agreed he'd get the damage fixed, and if possible, that I would pay for the damages, and we wouldn't call insurance to pay for it. Will my insurance still hit me with increased rates? Since I assume they can check the records [link] [comments] |
Claim was never helped, and a fraud claim filed against me Posted: 15 Jan 2022 05:05 PM PST My car was rear ended in November. The claim rep called and collected information after several days. And I received the claim decision mail saying I had 0% responsibilities. I was patiently waiting for help to get my car repaired, but my case was closed after two weeks with no communication. I did not mention to the rep that I didn't wish to repair my car and didn't receive payout either. I tried calling Progressive, the rep and the supervisor and got no response. Therefore I opened another claim for the same accident in December, as expected I was not helped. Today I opened up my account and found another claim on me. I called customer service and was told I backed into someone else's car, which is completely not true. I received no communication from Progressive saying I had an accident, no calls or emails for any investigation. I don't know what business is Progressive is doing on me. I suspect they get annoyed by voice mails and decide to treat me. And yes, they can claim the damage is coming from me backing into someone and not someone rear ending into my car, because it was never repaired. I would appreciate if there are any suggestions to help me out of this situation. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Do I pay for all the cost before meeting the deductible Posted: 15 Jan 2022 12:26 PM PST I'm a little confused about my BCBS health insurance plan. It says my in-network deductible is 1500. it also says I pay 20% for PCP/specialist office visit. Does it mean if the whole visit cost $100, I need to pay $20 dollar and insurance will cover the rest $80 and if I paid more than $1500 this year insurance will cover whatever remaining cost for this year. or it really means that I have to pay the $100. and after I have already paid $1500 this year. I will pay 20% of the remaining portion and insurance will cover the rest? [link] [comments] |
Will claim due to vandalism raise my premiums? Posted: 15 Jan 2022 10:38 AM PST My car was vandalized/damaged while parked in a Home Depot lot. I'm with Amica, and the non-collision deductible is $1,000. I had a claim within the last 90 days under the collision provision after a muffler fell off of a car and hit me on the highway. Illinois policy. [link] [comments] |
