YSK: videos on your website without closed captioning can get you sued Posted: 24 Nov 2021 06:26 PM PST I have been doing some research into this and there are actually people who sue small businesses for this to make a living (google articles online). We are fortunately in a position that we can probably settle ($10,000), but this is no small amount. Just wanted to spread the word. BTW we are in California so this may be specific to there, but I would make sure to research the laws in your area on disability accessibility online as this can happen to anyone. [link] [comments] |
Making my First Hire (ever) - Need Advice Posted: 24 Nov 2021 09:07 PM PST TL;DR How do I avoid being circumvented by my hire in an ongoing service based business? Billing for the first session is fine. But any session after that they could just keep me out of the loop and bill directly. I'm going to be hiring someone for the first time in my life and it's exciting and terrifying. I need some advice. I run a coding tutoring service primarily targeted at uni students. I have too many clients, for a while I was turning new clients away, but I've realised that's no way to grow a business. So I reached out to some tutors and I've got a few interviews lined up. My main concern is - How do I avoid being circumvented by my hire? Billing for the first lesson is fine. But any lesson after that they could just keep me out of the loop and bill the clients directly. Do I have the tutor sign a contract? Or can I just check in with the clients and make sure everything's above board? Or am I just being paranoid and projecting my own greed? lol I've never employed anyone before so this is all very new to me. [link] [comments] |
Single member LLC vs S-Corp? What is best for an RBT? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 02:00 PM PST OK so I am recently licensed as a behavioral technician, and I was advised by the agency who assigns my cases to form an LLC. I already filed articles of organization and applied for EIN. Since I am the owner and only employee, the IRS says I am a single member LLC/disregarded entity. However, I have the option to file Form 2553 to be treated as an S-Corp. I have heard there are tax advantages to doing this, but I'm honestly out of my depth here. Tangentially related, but how exactly do I go about spending my money? If they pay my LLC, and then I pay "myself", am I being taxed twice? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Nov 2021 09:00 AM PST My husband and I own a gym together. We just opened (officially after months in lockdown) and we've got decent traffic so far. The thing is people keep asking for discounts and we don't know which is the better for our business: give a discount so we can get their membership or stick to our discount program. I prefer the latter because it's just fair for other customers and easier for us to manage finances and memberships. A recent example is a potential customer asked for a discount for her and her friend. Monthly membership is $90. I suggested that we should give her $5 off as a referral reward because she invited her friend. But my husband thinks we should give both of them $5 off to get them join. These are not big numbers but I don't want us to just give discount when people complain. If I were to track these discounts as a loss, we'd have given out 10% of our revenue at this point, which is quite a lot. (My husband used to decide on his own but since I complained, he now asks for my opinion). What would you recommend for a new business owner? A gym owner to be specific in this case. We care 10% about the brand and 90% about profit (if this info helps). TIA [link] [comments] |
Suggestion for website builder for my needs Posted: 24 Nov 2021 07:23 AM PST I want to build a simple website very similar to this <removed>— essentially no e-commerce, just a sort of informational website about what I am offering and how to contact me with requests. Would greatly appreciate any suggestions on what to use to build. Here is what I am looking for: Don't have much time nor expertise. Ideally, would like something simple to use. Economical option. Don't want to spend too much money as I don't know yet whether my business idea is viable.23. Some decent analytics for my site and good search optimization Thanks for any help! [link] [comments] |

Tried Invoice Ninja. What are all the raves about? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 06:54 AM PST Trying out the demo based on my current needs as an independent content creator:
Based on web interface (I work between macs and PCs)
That was the end of my trial. So - what's the deal with all the highly positive reviews? I can only assume I'm either very unique in the way I track projects or that I'm entirely missing some of the functionality somewhere... (there are some other things I can assume, of course.) Any thoughts? Alternatives? [link] [comments] |

I knowy market, I have the idea..now what? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 06:36 PM PST I don't have alot of seed money. But I worked in my target industry for most of my life. I KNOW this can be a profitable idea. I don't need or expect to be a millionaire but I have kept this idea close to my chest. Aside from going back to college at 36 (for a business or marketing degree) don't know what my next step is...do I try to generate funds? A prototype? A sales base? I know there is a need and willing market but I am paralyzed by what to do next. Is there literature? A resource? A funding process? I have the idea...what next?! [link] [comments] |
Anything I’m missing? LLC question Posted: 24 Nov 2021 03:31 PM PST I just created an LLC. I have an operation agreement, articles of organization, EIN, and business checking account. Is there anything else I should have or just any tips? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Nov 2021 08:48 PM PST I've run my ecomm business for seven years now and expanded last year as a test to see if I could scale my operation as a means to an end. The plan has always been to expand and replace myself and every move I make is orchestrated to test and retest stepping away. The scaling has been successful. We also expanded again into another warehouse space that we turned into a store and the store is successful. However, I learned I'm undersized and the retail store needs to actually be in a retail space. Sales have gone from $200k to $600k and with further expansion and reduced inefficiencies it is possible we hit the magic milly. What comes next is signing a five year lease next week after hashing out a contract this past month and expanding into a real 10,000sqft space next year to combine both halves of the business. It's a big move because rent will go from $31k/yr CAM lease to $107k/yr NNN lease, 4200sqft to 10,200sqft and that puts a lot more pressure to perform but it's literally the only option I see. The numbers don't scare me as much as catastrophic failure does, like managers leaving and returning to retrain. I don't want to end the business and I don't want to stay the same size and the space just doesn't work so the only move is up. The thing is, I do not want to manage people for five more years. I'd like to step back and promote within to create two managers for each half of the business so that I can step away. The Retail store is mostly automated already and just in general easier to automate, but the ecomm side still needs my labor to run and it's a bit more technical. I've tested being gone from 1-4 weeks multiple times. Constantly gathering data on the issues and problems that occur. This allows me to work out what I do that is missing when I'm gone. Create procedures to handle that and eventually train to replace me. What processes or steps have others done to successfully step away, near 100%, from your business? What failed that you had to come back and handle? What problems arose? What are some failsafe's you created incase you physically couldn't get back to the business (ie long term travel or even moving away). [link] [comments] |
Shopify vs Wix: Which is best for your business? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 08:33 PM PST Shopify and Wix are both mammoths of the web hosting industry, especially for small businesses. However, they appeal to very different businesses and in this guide we'll dive deep into both platforms and discover which is best for your business! Sister in law owns a small cake decorating business, what is a good christmas gift idea? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 06:15 AM PST So my sister in law is a partner of a cake decorator and is branching out to separate her business and is building a bakery in their home. She is extremely talented, but she's very shy and has always struggled with the promotional/advertising aspect of her business (ie if you looked at her instagram, her cake art is obviously brilliant and beautiful, but she lacks the "professional" aesthetic if that makes sense) so i want to get her something that might help her with that? She also has a cookie decorating class. I just want to help her grow her business or give her something that will improve it or something idk. Any ideas? thanks :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Nov 2021 12:01 PM PST I'm looking at some small businesses on sale at bizbuysell and I'm trying to understand how to compare the purchase price with its revenue, ebidta etc? Are there any rules of thumb to gauge at a quick glance if a small business is worth purchasing and understanding if it's overvalued, undervalued etc? [link] [comments] |

The overwhelming range of tools and programs Posted: 24 Nov 2021 06:27 AM PST Are there any digital marketers who are also overwhelmed with the wide range of tools and programs? My supplier just started using a factoring company for his invoices Posted: 24 Nov 2021 11:13 AM PST Hey guys, 👋👋 How would you feel if one of your suppliers / vendors transferred you to a third party company so that they would collect the payments from you on his behalf?! The factoring company pays him (less a fee.. I guess..) and then I need to pay them. Is it weird? Normal? WDYT? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Nov 2021 11:02 AM PST hello , i was just wondering, i want to start selling some products online. mostly around my city because i see that it is a product that would be in high demand. i just wanted to ask how credit cards worked. if i sell a product and hand deliver it, could people reject the credit card transaction even after it was processed online ? i'm scared of delivering the products myself and not having any back up with this. i know the question sounds dumb but its a huge doubt i have. Posted: 24 Nov 2021 10:58 AM PST I'm living in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I found a business that produces well, and is relatively inexpensive. I don't have the money to purchase the business, but I'm extremely confident I would be able to manage it very well and make it even more profitable. Thoughts on how I can find funding to help purchase this business? [link] [comments] |
Thank you card on the outside? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 02:10 PM PST I just used my thermal printer for 4x6 thank you stickers. They're my thank you card. Could I put them on the back of my envelopes to close them? Would that be a bad idea? They have a coupon code on there so I guess anyone can use it but I don't really mind considering it'll bring more to my shop. [link] [comments] |
