    What Should I Do? Insurance

    What Should I Do? Insurance

    What Should I Do?

    Posted: 25 Nov 2021 08:40 AM PST

I rented a car with Enterprise through my Progressive discount while my current vehicle is getting repaired (after I hit a deer, $1,000 deductible ughh). Monday I got the rental car and that evening I was rear ended by an 18yo kid. 110% his fault, he was driving way too fast weaving through rush hour traffic & both my car & his had to be towed. He gave me an insurance card but after the fact I realized only his mother was on the policy. I came back to Enterprise the next morning & was told I'd have to come up with $1,000 just to swap a car. I don't have a $1,000 currently after all the other repairs I've had to cough up out of pocket. I reported it to my insurance and filed a claim with his insurance as well. My claims person is the shittiest communicator of all time of course & never answers the phone. I need a car for work, but don't want to pay $1,000 for something that's not my fault. Should I just say fuck Enterprise & rent from somewhere else?

    Small fender bender

    Posted: 25 Nov 2021 05:41 AM PST

Illinois United States. My son had a small fender bender. Just minor dents but the other party called the police and they took a report. The officer told my son he was at fault but did not write him a ticket. They have process to automatically send everything via email to each party. I'm wondering, because the damage will probably be close to or less than my deductible, should I just call this guy and say send me the bill or should I let his insurance company send the bill?

    Thanks in advance

    Life Insurance - Spanish Resources

    Posted: 25 Nov 2021 02:46 AM PST

Does anyone have any good material or resources that they use to help translate life insurance terminology from English to Spanish and vice-versa?

I'm trying to improve my Spanish vocabulary and I'm not able to find good resources. I usually turn to online translation services like DeepL for assistance.

[SC] My insurance company is refusing to fully repair my vehicle.

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 03:14 PM PST

I hit a deer a couple of weeks ago, and an antler pierced my oil pan and all my oil went all over the highway. I initially pulled over and assessed what happened. I got out and took a couple of pictures of the deer the damage and the oil spill all over the highway. I then got back in my car, drove it to the next exit for safety, and pulled into a parking lot.

Had a tow truck come and pick it up, and met the adjuster at the tow yard for the inspection a few days later. I told the adjuster that I drove the vehicle when the oil pan was pierced and had no oil in it, to get it off the highway to safety. The adjuster assured me that they would have the body shop open the engine and see if there was any internal damage.

There was heavy internal damage, and I needed a lot of repairs to my engine/vehicle in general. I spoke to my adjuster who notified me that my insurance company would not be covering the damage to the engine, because I admitted to driving it when there was no oil in it.

Does this sound right or do I need to push back?

My vehicle is still being tore down, looks like it could potentially be totaled, will the engine damage the validation form the instance company?

    Fighting total auto loss appraisal…success!

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 03:13 PM PST

TLDR; go through your own collision insurance and then try to prove the condition of the comps is not what they are rated at.

I'm in NC. Wife was in a wreck a few weeks ago that was 100% other drivers fault. He was ticketed for failure yield in addition to driving on a revoked license. He did not own the vehicle but at least someone had it insured.

Filed a claim through the vehicle owner's insurance who declared the vehicle a total loss and offered a little over 6k to settle based on CCC evaluation. I spent hours looking through VIN history and dealer ads for each vehicle they listed. They rated the condition of her vehicle at,or below average for every category. Every vehicle listed for sale as a comp was automatically considered in "dealer ready" condition which equaled a ~$1200 difference excluding mileage and option differences. Among the issues I found included: -One vehicle with a salvage/rebuilt title history. -One where the listed source price was $2000 higher than the comp. -Multiple vehicles with medium sized dents, seat stains, and one covered with enough mold to look like a biohazard. -4 out of 12 had no pictures available to examine, and one had no record of being listed for sale at all.

While her vehicle had some minor scratches and door dings, it was in the best condition of all but one comp (which was low mileage). I had the maintenance history and a recent oil analysis to prove the vehicle was in above average mechanical condition. I sent my corrected version of the ccc back and upped their price by 600. Adjuster wouldn't budge.

Filled through my own collision and received the exact same appraisal number from CCC. At least my insurance gave us more credits for condition but most items were in average condition. Minus deductible, came to the same approximately 6k offer (hopefully eventually getting the deductible back). I sent the same info to my own adjuster and made an offer that was essentially NADA value minus a couple hundred. He said he thought my number was excessive and that it didn't reflect actual cash value but would present my info to the appraisal company and get back with me.

About a week later, he returned with an offer about 1k over the initial. He was still short my number by $500 but the cost of contesting it further was going up, as in NC it meant paying an umpire. I had already paid for an independent appraisal, but his number was high ($9k) and his comps were further away despite being closer in mileage and condition.

Once the deductible is recovered, We'll get about $7600 as opposed to the original $6k offer.

Side note: I'm a little disgusted by this whole procedure. Had we not had a spare car to drive we would have been under more pressure to take the first number. Many people don't have that option or don't have their own collision coverage to use.

Side-side note: Adjusters keep referring to this "actual cash value" as a scientifically methodical number determined by their "independent appraiser". At least in this case, it was an educated guess based on listing prices and what turned out to be poor assumptions on condition of comps. The error is probably lower on newer, lower mileage vehicles, but if you have a good condition 10 year old car it's likely off.

    Edit: correct typo

    Diminished value of leased car

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 04:51 PM PST

I was in the process of selling my 21 Tesla Model Y for 61k but then some moron hit my car when they were reversing out of a parking lot. Now I am only getting offers for 48 - 52k now that the repairs are done.

I am in California, I understand I wouldn't be able able to a diminished value claim as a lessor but what if I were to pay off the car first, then would I be eligible to do a diminished value claim once I get the title?

Or I wouldn't be able to do the claim since I wasn't the owner of the car at the time?

Car caught on fire during transport

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 06:38 PM PST

Backstory: I bought a car off my dad from Hawaii and he had it sent to me a month ago. Today I received a phone call from the moving company that was making its way to me from the port. They called to inform me that my vehicle had caught on fire which had started from the engine of their semi truck. I asked the condition of the car to see if it was still salvageable but they sent me a video that was taken by the driver only to see my car completely engulfed in flames. He said their insurance adjuster would call me and reach out within the next couple days.

My dad had the vehicle under his insurance during the transport just to be on the safe side but is this something the companies insurance will handle? If so, how do they work? Do they payout the vehicles worth based off of Kelly's blue book? Or do they only offer what I initially paid for? This situation is completely new to me and I'm not sure what to expect when the insurance adjuster calls.

Auto insurance case sent to SIU for investigation

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 09:08 PM PST

Several days ago, I got a flat tire warning. I hopped out of my vehicle and saw a noticeable dent on the right rear of my vehicle, just above the wheel. I go to open my car door to grab my phone to take pictures of it, but noticed an impact on my right fender/bumper area. There were read streaks on it and some of my paint was scraped off. I don't know when this would have occurred and hadn't noticed this damage before as I'm usually getting into my car from the driver side. The damage in both areas are not extremely obvious if someone were to walk by, but it definitely is visibly dented if you walk close to look at the car. There was also a red streak, no dent, on the right rear passenger door. And of course, I find a big nail on my right rear wheel as well. I suspect someone hit my car and left the scene without a note or anything, though I have no idea where it may have happened as the area that I usually park is along a curb on the right side. My guess is that it might have either occurred at a parking lot or a one way street. Today, I was contacted by SIU. They informed me that my case was flagged by the adjuster and they think it was from a moving collision against a fire hydrant or post of some kind because it was "red". They asked me the typical questions and I told them what I knew. I don't know if they tried using some scare tactics, but they said they might escalate to using forensic analysis on the car to see if the red paint is in fact from a vehicle. I told them, "please, let's start with that process to clear the air because I didn't hit any fire hydrant or anything like that". She said they will see if that's necessary but she would gather evidence and get the case back to customer service. My questions are: 1) if I don't have a clue where it might have occurred, what can they do to gather evidence? I don't want my case to be denied because I didn't know when the damaged occurred. 2) the damage estimate came out to <$3000. Will they actually give me the forensics test that I asked for, or are they just bluffing? 3) also first report I had with geico after using them for about a year. had one incident of a break in but with a different insurer. Case was approved and occurred 2 years ago. 3) for those with experience in SIU, what's the plan to investigate when the insured has no location or time? Is it auto denial? Auto fraud? It's frustrating cause I just want to get my car fixed.

Can auto agent/adjuster do license plate and/or insurance lookup without opening claim?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 04:23 PM PST

    US/TX

As I was driving straight in right-most lane, truck cut off my vehicle as it merged across two lanes. I took sidewall damage to passenger tires and rims from a roadway drain after braking and veering slightly right to avoid collision. I have dashcam video of the incident.

Costs for two tires and two rim repairs aren't enough to make a first party collision claim worthwhile, but given I have video to elevate above the usual "he-said/she-said, claim denied", I wouldn't be opposed to giving it a shot by contacting the third party insurance (even if I am still probably SOL).

Does anyone at my insurance (agent, adjuster, other?) have the ability to lookup the truck's insurance info based on the license plate without me opening a claim on my side?

Should Auto Insurance companies do more than this?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 05:17 PM PST

Because I'm unfamiliar with the sub, I won't share what auto insurance I have in case doxxing is against rules but if that is different I'm more than happy to share.

Anyway, my vehicle was broken into in my driveway along with 3 neighbor's cars in the same night. It was frustrating, violating (we heard loud banging, then saw it on our Nest camera live, so we knew it was going on and were powerless to do anything) and a massive inconvenience after the fact. I had one window smashed completely and two more were struck with something hard, cracking them obviously and needed replacement. The perps also jumped onto my truck bed, where I had a vinyl cover, and they jumped and stomped that to collapse it in, which is not broken and irreparable. I have comprehensive insurance with a $500 deductible.

My insurance company funneled me to file a claim through the app/online. Fine, I'm a millennial, I'm comfortable doing things online a lot. But then I needed to speak to somebody. They emailed me (automated) and said to call my agent at extension xxxxx. They weren't picking up. After a couple hours, I call the claims department. Took me several tries to reach the right location. They finally get me on with an agent. They schedule a window repair through Safelite, but it would take a week to get them. They don't offer to look anywhere else, they just tell me that's how long it's going to take. I'm frustrated and busy and say "okay fine" and move on to the next thing.

Then I realize I need a rental. Not only did they not offer to check for faster services, but they didn't offer me a rental car, despite my policy covering a rental. I call to set up a rental. However, all they actually do is give me the number/location for the rental company, and I have to schedule that separately. Great. More work for me. At least they paid for it, right? Well, I don't know if Enterprise took me for a ride or not, but I still paid about $100 for their rental insurance. Apparently that's not already covered through the insurance I already pay.

Well the next day all of my neighbors's car windows are fixed. I'm the only poor bastard on the street, apparently, who couldn't get my windows repaired.

Then when the windows are repaired, they did a cursory vacuuming. But that's not enough. There are still shards of glass on my seats and in the door pockets and on the floorboards. The agent even told me that with the cloth seats and the fine glass particles it needs to be "shampooed" (his term, I assume a deep steam clean?). I still have yet to figure out how and when I'm going to remove and replace my bed cover, and the interior needs a complete detailing to rid it of glass.

Am I wrong to expect my insurance company to have done way more for me in this process? They were basically like "oh we're so sorry to hear that, if you call these numbers and schedule these services and pay for them then we will cover the cost above your deductible" which just seems like no service at all. Like it's just a pot of money that I paid into for insurance and I have to do all the work to fix my belongings and then do the work to justify my payout as well. No?

Manulife insurance- time within which money are deposited??

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 04:57 PM PST

    Hey,

    (Ontario, Canada)

Does anyone know how long does it take for the dental office to receive the money from the insurance provider ( my insurance dental provider is Manulife). Google says around 5 business days, if you're set up for direct deposit, then 1-2 business days. I assume dental offices, esp big have direct deposit.

Can it be that the insurance company approved the payment, but money haven't cleared yet...?

8 days have already passed since the day of claim. Insurance company confirmed that they paid to the provider long long time ago....8 days ago to be more specific.

Dental clinic says they haven't received the payment yet (they might be lying because we are in a conflict and they have to reimburse me money for the malpractice case).

Therefore, I would like to know how much time does it usually take for insurance to process the claim and deposit money to understand whether my dental office is lying.

    Thanks!

Do I understand this correctly? "deductible does not apply" and "preauthorization is required except for office visits"

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 01:22 PM PST

Hi there, I'm looking into Blue Shield CA Gold 80 PPO for out of network mental health benefits.

The deductible is $0 for participating providers, and $5k for non-participating providers per individual.

For outpatient needs for mental health behavior (aka therapy?) it says this for non-participating providers (aka my therapist):

"Office Visit: 50% coinsurance; deductible does not apply Other Outpatient Services: 50% coinsurance Partial Hospitalization: 50% coinsurance subject to a benefit maximum of $500/day Psychological Testing: 50% coinsurance"

And the Limitations, Exceptions, & Other Important Information says this:

"Preauthorization is required except for office visits. Failure to obtain preauthorization may result in non- payment of benefits."

Am I correct in thinking I can go to my out-of-network therapist, receive a superbill, submit it to this insurance, and get the allowable amount reimbursement? And that I don't need to meet the $5k deductible before the 50% coinsurance applies, but in return, any services I pay from this therapist don't apply to my deductible either?

Should I be concerned about the "Preauthorization is required" limitation?

Does that make sense? Or are you able to simplify it a bit for me?

    Thank you!!
