Cathie Wood says her firm is testing a more aggressive strategy that would be ‘ARK on steroids’

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 05:01 AM PST

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/11/24/cathie-wood-says-firm-is-testing-a-more-aggressive-strategy-that-would-be-ark-on-steroids.html

Ark Invest's Cathie Wood said her firm is internally testing a fund that bets against major stocks in the benchmarks.

Wood said she wants to test the strategy on Ark's employees and did not say when the fund would be made available to retail investors.

Wood acknowledged it could be quite volatile but said that over the next five years it will be a huge winner as her innovation companies emerge and older bellwethers fade away.

Looks like Cathie Wood had found another way to attract investors money. People buying on these ark funds need to understand that the stocks inside are very random. Investors might easily lose money since many of them do not even realize what are they buying and investing.

Germany to legalize recreational cannabis [ARTICLE]

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 09:53 AM PST

If cannabis is legalized for recreational use, the country - which has a population of more than 83million - could become the biggest cannabis market in the world.

180-page document lays out coalition's legislative priorities for next four years

Contained within it is a pledge to legalize cannabis to be sold in licensed shops

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10238617/Germany-legalise-CANNABIS-countrys-new-coalition-leaders-announce.html

What are you thoughts on North American companies with cannabis trade to Germany already in place for medical marijuana, like TLRY? Are they going to up the demand a little more as they legalize, or potentially block them out in favor of German-owned growhouses?

Autodesk plunges 20% on earnings - time to buy in?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 08:41 AM PST

    Hi guys,

I have been eyeing up Autodesk for a year since around $250 however haven't entered due to the insane run.

Now we find ourselves with Autodesk back down at $250?

Their earnings report doesn't seem too poor to me, however their outlooks for Q4 and onwards are drastically reduced.

    What do you guys think?

Stop Loss Triggered Under The Daily Low - Dark Pool Transaction

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 10:32 PM PST

So I had a stop loss set at $342 on $VCR, and during trading my stop loss was triggered, but the daily low on that day (Nov 11) was 342.05 on my trading app, and on Yahoo Finance. The customer service team for my UI (Stake) was very responsive & helpful & basically explained that although publicly the low for the day was above my stop loss set point, it was triggered by a(likely) dark pool transaction and sent me some supporting pics of Bloomberg terminal showing the price action. I am hoping someone can help me understand:

    • For an ETF that is shown moving by a few cents at a time, what kind of price action could explain a drop of 21c and then back up 20c in less than a second?
    • If a transaction large enough to move the ETF price that much occurs, how would it not become visible on public charting like Yahoo finance?
    • Has anyone ever encountered something like this?

Drive Wealth is the broker. Sub wont let me post pics, but here for linkOther post

    Thanks,

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 07:07 AM PST

HI, Im new to this group. I started investing in the US market recently and have not much idea of the businesses except some basic numbers I see on websites. I noticed this gaming platform provider called Roblox. They net income, Assets, margins all look good to me, except that they are still in net loss. Can someone tell me why this is so?

Any good Black Friday deals for website/tools with data for fundamental analysis?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 10:27 AM PST

I like the everything money website which have all the metrics and data quarterly precalculated with valuation/analyzer tool. It doesn't seem to have any deals for Black Friday.

Is there any similar good website/tools on sale for black Friday? I am mostly interested in fundamental analysis.

Trading view paid version doesn't seem to have any additional features in the paid version for fundamental analysis.

    Cutting my CRSR losses?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 07:12 AM PST

Just curious to hear some other opinions on my CRSR investment. I originally started a position in 2020 after the IPO and before WSB ever got their hands on it. I'm a gamer, saw a lot of people using their brands and saying they were quality. Did my DD on the fundamentals and everything looked great for a growth company. Huge % YOY increases in most areas. The only negatives I saw was debt but that has even improved since my original investment and the fact that EagleTree held so much of the float. I knew that this growth was exasperated due to covid but I believed the TAM for gaming will grow in the coming years. I DCA after starting my position, Yields spike in March causing growth stocks to plummet. I continued to DCA. WSB pump came and I was up nearly 30% but never sold as I had CC's on my position that went ITM. Fundamentally nothing has changed about this company but clearly the market has changed. I know short interest is extremely high at the moment as well near 35% so I am hesitant on what to do as I would rather sell after shorts cover but who knows when that would happen in this market environment. I am currently down around 30% (11k) on my position which isn't a huge amount of money to me but still significant. I'm worried that this could fall possibly below IPO price when the Fed does start to raise rates and growth stocks crash and burn. I still believe the thesis but due to significant market conditions and unforeseen headwinds I'm wondering if I should tax loss harvest the loss and not continue to lose out on opportunity cost and my investment as well. Let me know your thoughts and if any of you are in a similar position with this stock or another.

Experts say TQQQ is a short term hold and don’t advise long term. Why? It’s up almost 1,500% last 5 yrs and almost 20,000% in last 10 yrs

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 11:51 AM PST

Can someone tell me what I'm missing? They say this stock is a short term hold and too risky as a long term hold. How is that true if it's up 1,500% in the last 5 years and outperformed all other indexs and ETFs? It's also up almost 20,000% in the last 10 years.

    What am I missing?

BlackRock says time to buy China stocks

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 01:20 PM PST

BlackRock Inc. is trimming its investments in Indian equities and becoming more optimistic on China on attractive valuations amid expectations that policy hurdles will ease next year.

After a world-beating rally, sentiment on Indian shares has soured due to broker downgrades and concerns about tightening liquidity, worsened by a poor showing for the nation's biggest initial public offering. By contrast, there is growing belief among investors that Chinese stocks could bounce back as the worst is probably over for Beijing's regulatory scrutiny of private enterprises

Can I do this as a job?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 09:09 AM PST

College student here. Full ride so all expenses covered. I've been making ~300/day pretty consistently for about 2 months off a 10k account. Recently doubled it and have slowly started making a little more. Win rate is ~80%.

Not sure how practical this is as a job, but I like the payout more than a 9/hr campus job. Anything I need to be mindful of?

Edit: I just realized I forgot to mention this slightly important piece of information. I've been trading options for over 3 years, just not to the scale that I am now. And I am accounting for taxes. Everything that I pull out I plan on putting a percentage aside to accommodate income taxes.

Will also pull out a percentage of profit at the end of the year to accommodate taxes on whatever gains I left in the account

    Cathie Woods Arkk Death Spiral?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 08:09 AM PST

Arkk is at a new 6-month low, and arkg, arkf are at 1yr lows. Arkw is at a 3month low. Many of the bigger cap names down the most today are all big holdings of hers: tdoc, twtr, Zm, twlo, rblx… the list goes on and on. Her holdings are down much more than the overall market, and much more than the Nasdaq. Is this the start of a Cathie Wood death spiral (where outflows in her funds lead to her holdings getting pounded, which leads to poor performance, which leads to further outflows.) Interested in hearing opinions…

VIX calls for December 22 at $60 strike at 14000

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 04:32 AM PST

Was interested in calls on VIX so checked via options tab on yahoo finance.

There are a very large number of calls at 20+.

Thats not a big strike price, but 35, 50 and 60 there are 12,000 8,000 and 14,000 respectively.

Is this the volitility prior to the end of year tax stuff we see often, is this normal for the options on VIX at this time of year.

I’m looking for a good opportunity in banking stocks. Any suggestion?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 06:52 AM PST

I have a portfolio that is too heavy in tech and I want to move more toward banks. I have a fair amount in insurance too. I'm thinking long haul on these stocks to give stability as inflation continues.

How do you think declining birth rates in the US will effect the market?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 08:12 PM PST

Interested to hear other peoples opinion. I think our economy is so globalized at this point (and will continue to be) that it doesn't really matter much so long as we continue to be the top producer of product and talent.

Why does SWPPX(SP500 tracing) perform less well than SP500 Index?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 10:13 AM PST

This could be quite a newbie question. I've been keeping wondering if a mutual fund, such as SWPPX, that's tracing the SP500 index, will not perform as good as SP500 index over a 10yr period?

This question extends to why SWPPX performs less well than an ETF equivalent, say VOO?

    Thank you very much!

what's up with Home Depot? Revenue not projected to increase, but stock to the moon.

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 05:51 PM PST

    https://i.imgur.com/puC1Len.jpg.... revenue

Do you think home depot will come back down eventually?

Would you get in front of this bus and establish a short position?

I don't understand how the stock can keep going up like this if revenue is not projected to increase.

This is one of those stocks where you think it's too high to buy, but it keeps going higher. But if you try to short it now, you get destroyed.

do the fundamentals support the price though?

$GPS Gap gapped and crapped. What to do now about supply chain hammered companies?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 10:52 PM PST

for some companies like home depot, investors are giving them a pass on supply chain issues. pushing them to all time highs.

Others like Gap and nordstrom, are getting kicked like a dead horse.

Gap has now given back the entire year of gains. 0% gains !

When Gap hit 52w highs in May, were there no supply chain issues??

Gap now has a 6 month supply of bagholders.

Now, do you just take your money completely out of these stocks until the news confirms supply chain issues are resolved?

    or buy this dippity dip?

    or buy puts ?

This might be another victim of tax loss harvesting soon.

CMBS (Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities) stocks / mreits

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 05:30 AM PST

Are there any good CMBS (Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities) stocks/mreits out there?

Shares with some growth and high yield.

The economy seems to be in an interesting place. We went through a "stand still" period and things are slowly picking up. Supply chains are back-logged and we're dealing with a "labor shortage." We might go through an energy transition which includes refurbishing and reshaping almost every industry including real estate. And this is all on top of the infrastructure bill.

Even if these companies are flushed with cash they'll probably still finance a lot of projects.

Investing in sectors that you know the business of, and ones that you don’t

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 08:40 AM PST

I wanted to ask opinions on this. I've noticed that a ton of people are invested in roughly the same 20 or so stocks. Are these bought just because they are popular, or are that many folks proficient in that company/sector? My background is energy/mining. My portfolio reflects that because I understand the news better than any other sector because I've worked in it for so many years and thats what I'm comfortable with. I know the companies, have worked for some of them personally, and understand the lingo.

Of course I have some stocks outside of that sector, but I really don't understand the business of many of these popular stocks, honestly. So, I don't really buy 'em.

I'd be interested in knowing what people's thoughts are on this. Do you have intimate knowledge of your stocks sectors, did you take time to learn and understand it? Do you stick with what you know? Do you rely on others for help regarding sectors you don't know?

Why do some stocks with apparently strong fundamentals move sideways for years while others take off?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2021 12:25 AM PST

So I have been looking at screening stocks to find good "boring but solid" long-term buy-and-hold candidates, the ones that steady go up year-after-year with hopefully little volatility.

    My screens are typically

    • growth both in EPS and Sales quarter-over-quarter of 20%
    • high margins
    • little short float (less volatility, I presume)
    • P/E not excessive (say <30 or <35)
    • ROE should be high >20%

What I then get out of this are a lot of the big-tech stocks that have been some of the winners in the stock-market in the last year like GOOGL, FB and AAPL, as you maybe would expect, and I find that a good sign.

My question is, why does this screen also produce many stocks that have no price momentum at all? They seem to be moving sideways at least for the past year even though they have had growth in their fundamentals.

    Some examples:

International Money Express(-4.7% in 1 year)

    Monster Beverage(+5% in a year)

Lam Research Corporation( 3% in the last six months, isn't there a semiconductor boom now?)

Aspen Technology (17% in a year)

While some of these stocks have gone up in the past year, when viewed against the 27% gain in the S&P500, they have underperformed.

    Are these overlooked/forgotten stocks?

Is it that they will "at some point" start growing, or will they just stay like this?

Or, what is more likely am I missing some important factor in my screen? Have investors for some reason soured on these stock and sold off, causing multiples to contract? If so, how do I reduce the risk of the same happening to my buy-and-hold portfolio in the future? If it is not enough to seek out good companies, but you also need to factor in change in investor sentiment, how do you screen for that?

(disclosure: I only hold a little GOOGL and index funds at the moment)
