Posted: 14 Sep 2021 10:55 AM PDT Please excuse my grammar ahead of time.. Yesterday my boss pulled me aside after work to talk to me about my past medical expenses ran through the insurance for the company. I'm on a medical plan through work and I have my spouse on the plan. We live in Texas, although we are not legally married, through "common law" she is considered my spouse. We have been together for almost 3 years, she lives with me, is on the lease, she is my spouse. Earlier this year, she needed medical attention due to her alcoholism. After finding an inpatient program, we found a place that would work with our insurance, along with applying for a government grant, she got the help she needed. My work was completely aware of what the situation at home was and was supportive... at the time. Months past and now my boss is telling me that I owe him 3k because due to the medical visits, along with prescription cost, etc. He told me he us going going have to take away my weekly bonuses, to not let my spouse get medical treatment, to leave her. My question is 1.) Is he legally allowed to discuss this with me 2.) Can he legally take away my bonus 3.) Threaten to fire me if I don't leave her and allow her to get further treatment 4.) How does he have access to these medical records 5.) I'm I legally allowed to have her on my insurance 6.) What do I do? I'm extremely stressed out over the situation and I don't know my rights. My boss is a good man, I'm not trying to screw him over in anyway but I also need to protect myself and my family. Also to note, when talking to him I had my phone out because I was clocking out, he then asked to see my phone for some reason. Later that night, I realized that he was making sure I wasn't recording the conversation. I also sent him a message that night going over what we talked about and his response was, "I don't know what you're talking about, we will talk later." This makes me wonder if he is stepping over the line for even discussing this with me. Any input and help on this situation will be greatly appreciated 🙏 [link] [comments] |
448/mo Auto Insurance - Would appreciate advice Posted: 15 Sep 2021 12:43 AM PDT Hello - my monthly insurance (Progressive) is 448/mo for a Tesla Model 3. I've shopped around multiple providers and this was on the lower end for mediocre/poor coverage and high deductible. I took it for now, but plan to hop off as soon I find something better or reasonable. Details: -No tickets or accidents or DUI (ever) -Have never made an insurance claim -Almost 30, Male, married -Solid credit (720-740) -Florida I've tried policygenius and individual shopping. I've asked agents and they just claim "Tesla's are expensive to insure" and "Florida prices" and "you can install this device in your vehicle for discounts" but when comparing online I'm absolutely one of the highest rates I've seen (I see people in the 80-200 range, so this is more than double). I'm not sure what is exactly going wrong and I'm curious if anybody else has encountered this issue where their car insurance doesn't make sense and how they've solved it. My home or other types of insurance products are normal / good prices. Policies are not bundled together but agents say it would not help much. Would appreciate any insight, thank you. California driver Car insurance question Posted: 14 Sep 2021 11:00 PM PDT If my car was in an accident and I have insurance on it but my friend who is not on my insurance was in the crash, is my care still covered by the insurance? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Sep 2021 06:24 AM PDT My neighbor had his roof replaced and while the roofers were there I had them take a look at mine. They reported wind damage and cited the same date of a storm as my neighbors had. I filed a claim but now my insurance has an investigator asking questions that clearly seem like they're trying to say it's a fraudulent claim. They had their own inspector come out and look but all I've been told about his report is that "the damage isn't consistent with wind damage" as was reported by my roofers and in my claim. Do you have a prior relationship with the roofer? No. Do you have a contract with the roofer? No. Did the roofer promise to get you a new roof or pay your deductible? No. Now I'm concerned that I might end up with a denied claim and a damaged roof and no options other than pay out of pocket to fix whatever damage is up there. Do I need a lawyer for this? Posted: 14 Sep 2021 10:34 PM PDT Do they just drop me? Do I pay for private insurance? It still only pays min wage ($14), but it's full time. How do report this to them so i don't get in trouble? I'm in California. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Sep 2021 04:05 PM PDT I was rear-ended in NJ about a week and a half ago (I live in NY). My car was a 2022 Kia Seltos with 800 miles on it...less than one month old. I just saw the estimate from the body shop and the repairs would be $26,000 so they totaled the car. Of course it's after hours and so I can't get anyone at GEICO or the body shop. The police report found the other driver at fault 'careless driving'. Since I've never had a lease before, I'm not sure what to expect. Some people are saying that I'm going to lose my down payment (which was sizable...I traded in a car) and so I'm trying not to freak out. Does anyone know what happens when a brand new lease gets totaled? TIA [link] [comments] |
My dog jumped onto my friends car and scratched the doors pretty badly. Posted: 14 Sep 2021 09:46 PM PDT The windows were open and their child was screaming w enthusiasm inside the car, so my dog was excited too, when they pulled up at my house. They want to fix the paint on the car and we have asked that we pay for that out of our pocket. However they want to use their insurance, they have full coverage. I think that the fixes will cost about $1k but are below our auto deductible and homeowners deductible. But would the loss even trigger either policy? I have followed up a few times telling them that we will reimburse for the paint job but they are distant now. What am I missing? [link] [comments] |

Health insurance coverage during COBRA election period? Posted: 14 Sep 2021 08:29 PM PDT I have very recently retired from large US company and intend to avail of COBRA. My corporate health insurance plan "expired" the day I left the company so while I'm awaiting some mail related to this (I assume) I appear to have no health insurance coverage. Reading the COBRA docs I should have coverage right now but where is it? I'm guessing that for any health expenses in this limbo period that I can pay and then submit a reimbursement claim once I get COBRA set up. I have searched but cannot find info on what I should do in this period prior to signing up for COBRA. Can someone please advise? [link] [comments] |

Roofing advise - Public Adjuster / roofing company Posted: 14 Sep 2021 03:16 PM PDT Hello, I reached out to GAF regarding reputable roofing contractors to get a quote for my old ass roof. It's due to be replaced and I have a lot of problems with the roof - ie. in the winter we get ice dams which cause water damage inside. Seems like there is also some water spots showing in the kitchen ceiling as well after some bad storms. A company that I thought was a roofing company showed up and talked me through how they work on filing a claim with insurance to have them replace it. I wasn't really sure why they started talking about insurance as I assume they were roofers. They informed me that they were public adjusters - I wasn't aware of how many people hated public adjusters on this sub, and I wasn't too sure what a public adjuster did. My only experience with them was showing up door to door and trying to get me to sign. (I always shoo them away). However this time he made some good points as I do have significant water damage inside the home caused by the roof. I was a bit confused as they seem to be two separately named companies - a public adjuster and a roofing company. I did sign some documents for them although I have 5 days to decide if I want to file the paperwork. The contract states that I do not have to pay out of pocket if I use them as their "preferred contractor", otherwise their fee is 35%. My two main questions are:

House contents claim- % depreciation Posted: 14 Sep 2021 06:41 PM PDT Hi all, We had a total loss on a house a few months back. The third party valuator came in at $160k (replacement value). Options will be either to replace contents (by group) up to the replacement value, or accept amortized cost + mark up as a final settlement. Assuming this as a replacement value starting point, how much would normally be depreciated in determining the amortized value? 75%? 90%? 50%? Most of the contents are 2 years old. 18-20 year olds: what do you pay for insurance on a newer truck? Posted: 14 Sep 2021 06:23 PM PDT I'm 19 and am going to buy a 2021 Tacoma under my parents insurance (state farm). What do you pay for your truck that is 2018 and newer? [link] [comments] |
How long do I have to complete an auto claim after initial estimate? Posted: 14 Sep 2021 06:11 PM PDT I was in a fender-bender on the 30th of August. The other driver was found 100% at fault. I used the other driver's insurance for the claim and they asked that I upload pictures of the damage. Later that day, they provided an initial estimate payout amount. I haven't had the opportunity to get the car checked yet, but am going tomorrow to get it checked and see if there is any additional damage to the vehicle (car is starting to act very odd since the accident). I'm concerned since I waited a couple weeks. I'm also in CA. Thank you for any help! [link] [comments] |
First time home owner insurance Posted: 14 Sep 2021 05:55 PM PDT Hello guys, I am in the process to buy a house. I would be first time owner if everything goes well! I need to insure this property and I am getting quotes. I have my car with State Farm so my first option was to ask my agent to help me with this. I also requested support from a broker that works with multiple companies and I am waiting for his feedback. Location: Michigan, US Property cost: $350,000 Here is the quote my State Farm agent recommended me: https://postimg.cc/rR1m6TjT.I think this is the most premium option, other cheap options remove optional services, decrease some limits and increase deductible. What I need support from you is to figure it out if this is the right coverage for me? Do the numbers in this quote make sense for a $350k property?Do optional services like identity restoration, fire department service or service line actually worth? The difference between this policy and some intermediate option is around $30/month. I don't feel is like that expensive $130/moth vs $100/moth but I am not sure if its worth. Feel free to provide any comment or advice on this regards. [link] [comments] |
Needing to get my KY Adjuster License Posted: 14 Sep 2021 05:47 PM PDT I will be coming from out of state and I'm trying to figure out the logistics. Can anyone tell me how long the exams usually take, how hard you found it, what kind of questions were on it and if there's any sample tests out there or study guides to recommend? I've already reached out to the department, not received a response. [link] [comments] |
California accident with limited coverage. What is the best approach? Posted: 14 Sep 2021 01:43 PM PDT I'm a California resident and have a beater car (worth less than 5k). I decided to waive uninsured motorist property damage and collision coverage. I was involved in an accident with a commercial truck. There were damages to the back driver side door. I believe the truck to be at fault. While collecting information, I noticed the insurance information they provided expired. What are my options? Do I go through my insurance and do they help get the claim paid for? Since I waived the coverage, is the onus on me to get coverage through their insurance (assuming they have an updated policy coverage)? Do I go through the company and settle outside of insurance? Posted: 14 Sep 2021 05:01 PM PDT I was in small fender bender where I rear ended a another car. That person is now seeking compensation for an injury. My insurance called me asking for pictures of the accident and the damages but I now I lost those pictures I took of the damages. What should I do? Alberta, Canada [link] [comments] |
Car Insurance Question - Please Provide Advice Posted: 14 Sep 2021 04:48 PM PDT Question: A car insurance policy was cancelled on February 1, 2020 by the carrier. But the policy holder paid the fee and the policy was not meant to be cancelled. On May 30, the insurance company says they will reinstate the policy, backdated to February 1, 2020 and will provide coverage for those months (February, March, April, May). The policy holder only needs to be pay the premium. The policy holder pays the premium and the policy is reinstated. Meanwhile, one of the vehicles/motorcycles on the policy was in a hit and run sometime in April. The owner has been unable to find the person at fault and needs their vehicle/motorcycle repaired. They decide to use their insurance to repair the vehicle/cycle. Can the policy holder file a claim on the now-reinstated policy and the vehicle/cycle will be covered? Or is the reinstated policy not going to cover any accidents or injuries during the February-May period, even though coverage is reinstated? [link] [comments] |
Does windshield replacement cover the cost of aftermarket tint? And minor side question on fault Posted: 14 Sep 2021 04:44 PM PDT Does insurance also cover aftermarket tint replacement? I live in Phoenix and the heat is brutal so tinted all around even front glass. NOT CHEAP. ANd my side question is some car nearly ran off the highway into the wall, which kicked up a ton of debris and chipped my window in two places. I have this on dash camera but I am guessing I can not make a claim against his insurance? He kept driving of course, and I am now out $250 minimum (deductible) and more if i dont get the tint replaced. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Sep 2021 04:34 PM PDT Hello all, I am currently working on getting my license to sell life insurance. However I am very confused by cash value. I understand that its equity accumulated in permanent life insurance , but I dont understand how or what it all means. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Please no hate, I am trying very hard to understand all of the aspects of this so that I can get my license and do a good job once I get started. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Sep 2021 04:16 PM PDT This does not sound logical. How can I be held liable for the actions of an adult, driving their own car and having their own insurance just because they live in my home? Will my umbrella policy have to pay, or any of my other insurance policies? Am I liable for any other of their actions? Am I liable if another adult living in my home cause a car crash with their own car? Missouri resident. [link] [comments] |
Current replacement cost coverage exceeds estimated replacement cost after inspection Posted: 14 Sep 2021 12:19 PM PDT I recently purchased a home in Texas and got insurance over the phone. Later on, the insurance company inspected the home (from just the outside I guess) and I received a letter that the replacement cost coverage we currently have is more than they think I need. I can either keep the current coverage, or I can lower it to their new replacement cost estimate. For reference, the new replacement cost estimate is 13.6% lower than what I have now. Obviously, I'd like a lower premium and deductible from this lower coverage, but I'm not sure how much the premium would actually be lowered and if there's other factors I should consider. Posted: 14 Sep 2021 04:04 PM PDT What are the major differences between them? Is it worth an extra $300/yr for the HE-7? North Carolina and I'm choosing between State Auto and Travelers. These are the only two options that offer a home share endorsement that I've found. [link] [comments] |
