Healthy paws increased by premium by 250% Posted: 05 Aug 2021 05:05 PM PDT I have a golden retriever, who has been insured by Healthy Paws since he was 1 year old. He is now 9 years old. The premium started at $35 and over the years has increased to $60, which while painful I understand. In July, they increased the premium from $60 to $150 with no prior communication. Upon reaching out to support they claimed that the number of reimbursements in my state (WA) has increased and they need to increase premiums to catch up. A very boiler plate response. Given the age of my dog, I don't think I will get other options easily. Even if i do, a lot of conditions will be considered pre-existing and won't be covered. Essentially I have been locked in, they realize this and have increased the premium exorbitantly because I don't have a lot of options. Do I have any options to force them to reduce the premiums? How does the Insurance business work? Posted: 06 Aug 2021 03:17 AM PDT Hi I'm am just a very very curious individual who would like to know a little more in depth how the insurance business works and how to get into the industry. I'm really just trying to learn as much as possible about this industry. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Aug 2021 09:45 PM PDT My friend from overseas broke their arm. We went to an ER in Washington, DC. They reset the break then put them in a cast. They are supposed to go back in a week to have an evaluation to rule out compartment syndrome and make sure the break is healing correctly. They have no insurance. What would be the best course of action at this time? I have never been in this position before so I cannot give much advice. Thank you all in advance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Aug 2021 03:18 PM PDT I have a question about coverage... We have a retaining wall running along the side of our yard that borders the neighbor's driveway. It's not in good shape and we've been planning on getting it replaced but were waiting until we saved enough money to extend it around the back of the house and level the backyard. Apparently part of the wall (a big chunk of stone that's ~1 foot long and 1 foot high) fell into the neighbor's driveway a couple days ago. She didn't mention it to us and we didn't notice because we don't have a lot of windows on that side of the house. She tried to move it into our yard but couldn't lift it. Her driveway extends to the alley, so she can exit by backing into the street or driving forward into the alley. She said she just backed out a few times to avoid it. Today, for some reason, she decided to drive her mini van OVER it to get out. The front of her car is damaged now, obviously. Who do I call? Would this even be covered under anything? I don't really want to pay $1,000 out of pocket because she decided to try to drive over this giant flipping rock without making any attempt to make us aware of the issue, but I know it's essentially on us for not maintaining the wall. Would I call my homeowners insurance to check? [link] [comments] |
Does insurance need to know if a car was damaged while running from the police? Posted: 05 Aug 2021 10:09 PM PDT Legitimately asking for a friend. So, my best friend recently ran from the cops and crashed his car while doing so. He was let go at the scene, and his car was taken to a body shop for repair. The bill came to around $11,000. He made an insurance claim, and they're picking up roughly $10,500 (I'm assuming because of his $500 deductible). Here's where my concern is: the insurance agency asked him if there was any police involvement, and he only told them that they were there when they responded to the accident. He completely omitted the fact that he crashed while evading. He lawyered up and the case is essentially closed for him -- he's not even getting a felony. However, I wanna know if he committed insurance fraud by not telling the insurance agency everything. He didn't necessarily lie, but he certainly didn't tell the entire truth. [link] [comments] |
Car rear-ended, not at fault, third party insurance only paid 50/50 Posted: 05 Aug 2021 12:12 PM PDT Hi all, need help with my car collision claim here, happened in Los Angeles CA. The incident was simple, we were waiting in a local street traffic, the driver behind me decided to leave the traffic so a three-point turn was performed and during the last point, the driver made the left turn and hit my left rear bumper, and made some primer scratches. The driver admitted the fault and we exchanged the information. Police were not called since the incident was pretty minor. Since the driver was at fault, I reported to the driver's insurance and time forward today the adjuster called me told me that they only accept 50/50 since the driver claimed I was reversing. I did not have evidence (yes, foolish, first time accident did not take pics) so basically my words vs. the other driver words, I think I have a few ways forward and I would like to have advice on what will be the best: Option1. I have full coverage so I just go through my insurance to have my car repaired first and let them talk to the other driver's insurance (the cost estimate of repairment was $780 and I have a $500 deductible). Option2. accept the 50/50 and I have to pay $390 out of the pocket. Is there an option 3? My question will be if I go with option 1. I worry my premium will increase for sure and I may not have my $500 deductible back since I do not have evidence to back it up. But if I go with option 2 that would mean I accept 50% liability which I definitely do not want to do so. Also not sure whether it will also increase my premium. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Why am I being charged over $400 for full coverage and uninsured car insurance? Posted: 05 Aug 2021 05:06 PM PDT I went to get my first car today which was a 2008 Honda Civic. But the damn insurance was gonna cost more each month. I'm 35 years old. Yes I waited a long time until I got my first car, I know. But what is the deal? If this is how it is going to be then I guess I will not be getting a car. I will take a taxi back and forth to worth and still come out cheaper. Also, I mean't to say uninsured motorists in the title as well. [link] [comments] |

Trans health insurance question Posted: 05 Aug 2021 08:38 PM PDT Insurance question I'm 25, somewhere between non-binary and trans fem but still presenting masculine in my daily life. I am recently married and about to turn 26 which means I'll need to find my own health insurance soon. My wife is a teacher and we will most likely be getting coverage through United healthcare in a few months. For the past year I've gotten HRT from an informed consent clinic and have not been using insurance for either the doctor visits or prescriptions. I've recently decided I am going to discontinue HRT for the time being. I have been hiding taking HRT from my wife and I don't have any plans to tell her. I know this sounds shitty but I am not looking for any moral guidance in this area. My question is if I am discontinuing HRT, when applying for health insurance will I have to add the medications I was prescribed (estradiol and bicalutimide) or can I exclude them because I was not using insurance previously. My main concern is my wife finding out I was using these medications without her knowledge. Because we would be getting coverage through her employer is there anyway I can exclude this info on the application form and not get rejected? Please let me know if I'm missing any relevant info. All guidance is appreciated! [link] [comments] |

Progressive Home Insurance replacement cost way below others Posted: 05 Aug 2021 10:58 AM PDT New homeowner here shopping for home insurance. I've looked at Progressive (through ASI), State Farm, Farmers, Liberty Mutual, and Amica. Our home is a previously custom built home in a HCOL area (LA). Of all the places, Progressive's replacement cost estimate is significantly lower ($240/sqft) than all other places ($300/sqft to $350/sqft). As a result, their premium is significantly lower. Has anybody had that experience with them? Should I trust their replacement cost estimate? I guess I can always bump up their dwelling cost estimate, but that would probably wipe out most of the cost savings. Any thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Is there any way to appeal the termination of my dental insurance plan? (Texas) Posted: 05 Aug 2021 07:37 PM PDT I fucked up. I'm 26 so I'm still figuring out how to do my own insurance. I set up my dental insurance on an auto payment system, but then the card I attached to the account was stolen a few months ago, but I completely forgot to update my insurance account. I got the bill in the mail but I just assumed it was like, confirmation receipt of a claim because, in my head, I thought I had auto pay set up. I set it aside until today, when I opened it and saw they would terminate my account if I didn't pay by 7/31. Is there anything I can do? I'm assuming I wont be able to sign up with Delta Dental again, can I sign up with someone else or am I just SOL? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Aug 2021 10:53 AM PDT The doc orders a DEXA because osteopenia. Because I'm a younger male, despite the diagnosis, insurance says yeah, no, you have to be older and female. Not in the mood to argue with insurance or to make my busy doc's office do it, I stop by SimonMed to ask about it. They tell me they'll do the DEXA for $50 cash up-front. I paid and scheduled the DEXA. On DEXA day though, they gave me a receipt that says something like "this is a preliminary balance that may change depending on blah blah blah." I told the receptionist that I was quoted a cash prepayment amount that I already paid and I would not accept a receipt that was basically an open ended bill. She of course was flustered and didn't know what to do. I asked her to write, "Patient paid bill in full on [date]." She went to somebody in the back office to get permission, then she wrote the message and her name on my receipt. The deal here is this: My insurance copay for all radiology services, from DEXA to lung x-ray to brain MRI w/contrast, is $120. At this time my insurance has not approved this procedure. I expect to get a bill from SimonMed for $70 sometime soon. Does anyone here have better knowledge than I about how to handle this? Thanks. Location is AZ, USA. [link] [comments] |
Subrogation, deductibles reimbursement. Posted: 05 Aug 2021 07:15 PM PDT CA. Electronic apartment gate malfunctioned, suddenly closing and scraping the side of my car. I have the leasing manager on videotape admitting that the gate sensor has been malfunctioning for a while and also admitting that several other tenants have had their vehicles damaged. I sent this video to my claim person. Months go by and I follow up to ask how long it might be before I get my deductible and whether she sent along my evidence. She tells me that she did not send my evidence to the attorneys and that it is not necessary to recover my deductible. Question is is AAA normally slow? How likely am I to get my deductible back? Car got rear-ended in parking lot, seemingly little damage. Posted: 05 Aug 2021 06:55 PM PDT I took my car to a mechanic for unrelated issues. Bout an hour later I got a call that someone backed into my car in the parking lot. Someone from the shop saw it and came out to look, then gave the person my number. We talked briefly, they seem cooperative etc. Not being there to know what kind of damage there is, we agreed to call insurance tomorrow and presumably I'd file a claim through their insurance. I ended up able to make my way over and see the damage. It simply seems to be a dent in the rear bumper. Frankly, I'd just pop the dent out best I can, buff it, and call it a day. My thought is that I tell the person to hold off on calling their insurance for 24 hours, see if the mechanic can take a quick look and determine if there's likely any damage beyond just the dent in the bumper, and if not then I don't really care and may suggest not filing an insurance claim if they so choose, to avoid raising their premium. My state (PA) supposedly requires accidents reported within 5 days. However my questions are:

Lemonade cancelling co-op insurance due to uneven payment. Philadelphia, PA Posted: 05 Aug 2021 06:44 PM PDT I got a notice today that they are not renewing my policy starting in October. Since the begining of Covid they sent me messages saying they were granting extra grace period due to the situation. I was having medical and financial hardships. I am paid up, but I did have late payments. Do I have any chance for appeal? How fucked is my credit and chances of getting an affordable policy? I've just pulled myself out of hard times and since I'm paid up, this cancellation seems a little harsh. I get it but hope there is a chance to continue. Does anyone have any advice for me? Rental coverage expired hit with 2k bill Posted: 05 Aug 2021 06:14 PM PDT My car was stolen mid-May and my repairs were finally completed on 7/2 (parts delay). Upon returning the rental, the Hertz rep notified me that my coverage had expired and my total charges were 2,300! I did not see any charges on my cc,so I immediately called my insurance and locked the card. The insurance rep said it was out of their hands, and I should contact Hertz. My question is: Do I have a fight here or am I stuck with this bill? Is there any recourse that I can take since I was never notified by my insurance nor Hertz? I'm still WFH so I definitely would have returned the car and only exercised the coverage when I absolutely needed to. TIA [link] [comments] |
TS Elsa Home Insurance Claim FL Posted: 05 Aug 2021 05:45 PM PDT Had a large tree fall on our house about a month ago. Have Security First as our carrier. As of today, have not yet received their damage estimate, IOW, how much they are going to pay. We have quite a bit of damage in our master bedroom and bath, of course plenty of roof damage, floor damage (water came in through holes in the roof AND a water pipe was severed and soaked the wood floor), and even some structural damage to trusses/joists/girders. The insurance co has stated a bunch of times that "you are free to use whoever you want to do the repairs", but they seem really intent on us using their hand-picked contractors. How will this work? They have already sent out someone to look at all the damage, as well as a few of those hand-picked subs. Will they give us their total estimate and say "You can get your own subs, but this is all the money you get?" Note: a few days after the tree fell, we did indeed get a general contractor to come in and give us a total estimate, for ALL the work, both inside & outside. Also, one thing that made it a bit worse was that when a tree branch went through our roof above the master bath, it sliced through a water line and before I was able to turn off the whole house water (luckily I was home when this happened), quite a bit of water went down into a wall....pipe was right above an interior wall. Finally, the insurance co did send out a restoration company 3 days after it happened, and they set up a large commercial dehumidifier and many fans to dry out the ceilings/walls. After a few days they told us that all was dry, but there are some areas that I'm sure their meters couldn't even reach to (for example, large hole in ceiling in master bath, right above the counter and cabinets, and also right above an outside wall). I'm sure rainwater came down into that wall. [link] [comments] |
Covered drug not covered? Fideliscare NY Posted: 05 Aug 2021 09:26 AM PDT I have Fideliscare and a NYS resident, I was prescribed 10 mg of vyvanse but my pharmacy said my insurance wasnt covering it? Posted: 05 Aug 2021 09:19 AM PDT On 5/25/2019 I was driving down a street going the speed limit of 25 mph. There were a lot of parked cars on both sides of the street due to families having parties so I was cautious for any pedestrians. All of a sudden a little girl (8-9 YO) came running out from behind a parked car and across the street just as the front of my car passed her. I screamed and slammed on the brakes and she ran into the side of my car and had her foot ran over. Parked the car and called 9/11 while asking if any parents were nearby, thankfully they were in the midst of a party and promptly came over. Cops came, took my statement and insurance/ license and an ambulance took the girl away, no broken bones just some pain and bruising. Being extremely busy with work and going on vacation the next week I never got a chance to get a copy of the police report but figured that it wouldn't be a big deal as I did not hit her, she technically hit me as the front of my car was already past her when her foot got ran over. Didn't even see insurance rates go up. Flash forward to 3 months ago when I bought a new car. I set up a new car insurance with a different carrier due to them offering a cheaper monthly payment for basically the same coverage on the new car. While setting up, the insurance employee said that there was an at-fault accident on my record and that my 6 month premium would be increased $600 from what they had originally quoted. I accepted and after a week or 2 I sold the car that had the accident and cancelled the previous insurance for the old car. I asked the police department for the police report and it does not list me at fault. It states: Pedestrian stated, she ran across the street without looking and did not see the vehicle. The police department says that my dispute is with the girl's insurance. My insurance policy number is on the police report but no insurance information from her as she is a child. How can I deal with her insurance since this is a no-fault accident and get this resolved? It lasts on my record for 5 years and I would hat to spend so much more for car insurance until then. As stated before, she ran out into my car AFTER the front of my car had already passed her. Slammed on the brakes but at that point there was not much I could do. [link] [comments] |
Texas: concerned because my vehicle was just totaled by the insurance company. Posted: 05 Aug 2021 04:45 PM PDT I was hit and the other persons insurance company (esurance) accepted responsibility. Today they said my vehicle (2010 Nissan Armada) was totaled. One owner vehicle , all the options in good condition. Do they pay me based on some book value? I can't find another one in my state for what Kelly Blue book says is the price. They're much more expensive, even though they have higher mileage. Do they take into account that used vehicles are commanding a premium right now? I'm really afraid I'll have to settle for a lesser vehicle. [link] [comments] |
Can I pay more than my deductible to keep my rates down? Posted: 05 Aug 2021 12:36 PM PDT Hi there, I have Progressive auto insurance. Recently a rock hit my windshield and it needs replacement. Progressive works with Safelite, who officially quoted $1,038 after taxes. According to Progressive, any claims where their total out of pocket reimbursement cost is under $500, they guarantee your rates will not increase. My deductible is $499, so I'm curious if I am able to pay, say, $600 OOP so Progressive only pays the remaining $438 and my rates stay the same. Is this common practice, or even allowed? Thank you all so much for guidance. [link] [comments] |
Farmers homeowners inspection question Posted: 05 Aug 2021 09:58 AM PDT I am switching policies to farmers and the agent told me there would be an inspector coming to look at the outside of my house. I've not had this happen with previous companies that I know of. The house is 2005, the previous owner had said the roof was replaced but I don't have any information on it (when, what company etc) and I just did a permit search in my area since they are required and none had ever been pulled. I bought the house in 2017, came from out of state and didn't think to check or ask for that information. There's no missing shingles or obvious damage I can see. I had to sign a form stating I have no information on the roof. I'm worried about the inspector coming and is getting a cancellation notice then would I have to disclose that to other companies? Location is Texas. [link] [comments] |
