Posted: 26 Sep 2020 09:23 AM PDT Not sure if anyone here will know the answer to this - but I live in Ontario and I have been insured through TD insurance for 2 years, but at the time of my renewal nearly a year ago, they just stopped charging me. I honestly hadn't noticed at all as the payments come directly out of my bank account each month, and have always just trusted that they are taking them when they are due. I called recently to cancel my policy as I am switching over to join with my husband's vehicle insurance with another company, and that's when we noticed that no payments had been made since September 2019. The person on the phone said it was very strange and definitely an oversight on the company's part, but after consulting with management, said they are asking me to pay the entire total of missed payments (about $1900). For me right now that is a huge chunk of money as I am unemployed due to the pandemic, and I feel as though I am being penalized for an error on their part. If they were coming out of my account every month as they should have been, I would have budgeted and accounted for my finances accordingly, but I am now not in a position to pay that amount. They have offered to set up a payment plan for it as their 'compromise' but it feels very unfair seeing as it wasn't my mistake and I was never once notified of any missed payments. I have asked to speak to someone in management, but am worried that they'll just tell me the same thing. If anyone has any advice or guidance on how to move forward with this without going totally broke, I'd be so grateful! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Sep 2020 12:09 AM PDT Hi I just wanted some input on my accident. The state that this happened in is NY. I was parked up and saw that it was a red light. There was no ongoing traffic to the lanes to my left or in front of me. I also didn't see a car at the end of the block (they can turn in to be on the same road as me, in this case, they can turn right or left since its green for them). I make the u-turn but as I finish up the u-Turn, the car comes up and sideswiped me since they are trying to merge onto my lane from a turn. I probably at fault for my accident since I made an illegal u-Turn by starting it from the wrong lane. However, I don't have the insurance policy of the other individual or contact information due to the police making a report. I would have to wait 2-3 days before I can pick up the report from my precinct. Now in the report, the other individual is claiming that I rear-ended them but I have footage of me hitting the side of their car. They also claimed that they need to go to the hospital but the damage is so minor that no one was hurt nor was the airbags were deployed. I'm wondering, if I'm at fault would my insurance policy have to cover their medical bills as two ambulances came and picked up their passengers. [link] [comments] |
Pros and cons of filing under the at faults car insurance Posted: 26 Sep 2020 06:46 PM PDT Hey I was in an accident, where I was stopped at a stop sign at an intersection and a guy turning left into my road drive into my lane and ran into my car. The cars still at the shop but it's most likely totaled. I'm considering trying to file under the at faults driver's insurance so I won't have to worry about paying my deductible and the possibility of having rates risen. What are the cons of this? Is it likely they will try to get out of paying for the full value of my car? If they don't give me the full value of my car could I then goto my own insurance company to try with them anyway? I'm working from home for the next couple of months because so time isn't really of the essence. [link] [comments] |
How does comprehensive coverage work when your car is stolen? Posted: 26 Sep 2020 11:09 AM PDT My car is stolen. My keys are missing for a while now. I read online that irrespective of the keys missing, comprehensive insurance coverage will cover it. I'm with Progressive Insurance. However, I spoke to a lawyer and he said they might not because they may make this case of my negligence which may result in them not helping me out. Really worried. Please shed as much as light as you can. Thanks! Edit: This happened in Washington state (WA) [link] [comments] |
Anyone know how to calculate expected aggregate profit for life insurance Posted: 26 Sep 2020 07:51 AM PDT I'm in second year of an insurance course in South Africa and I'm really struggling with this. It's a 5 year level term life assurance product. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 26 Sep 2020 06:29 PM PDT In Pennsylvania: TLDR: Nationwide pet insurance is saying cancer, although undiagnosed and presented no symptoms, was pre existing. I had a 12 year old golden retriever who recently passed away at the end of August. Rewind to mid July- I got a new job and Nationwide pet insurance was a benefit (not free but only $50/month). We had FIGO pet insurance for the prior 2 years, but they were going to raise our premium to over $200/month in August. We decided to switch to Nationwide since he didn't have any major pre existing conditions that would be excluded. Policy went into effect 7/27, we scheduled his annual exam for 7/28 to make sure we were in coverage. Our dog had a cough that would come and go for a few months so we mentioned that to the vet. They took chest x-rays and his lungs were completely clear but they noticed a mass on his spleen on the edge of the image. They did an ultrasound and confirmed he had a large mass on his spleen. After consulting with specialists a few days later, we determine he should get a splenectomy. Nationwide doesn't do pre-approvals, so we had to go with good faith that this would be covered. Turns out the large mass was benign, but he had a second very small mass that was hemangiosarcoma. Considering how aggressive this cancer is, it's amazing it hadn't spread to any other areas. This was found 8/13, so about 2 weeks from the beginning of coverage. We proceed with scheduling chemo and are told he has about a year to live. He unexpectedly collapsed on 8/29 and had to be euthanized the same day. None of our claims were processed until 9/24, totaling over $7,000. Nationwide is not paying a cent. They are claiming the cancer must have started growing prior to the policy effective date of 7/27 so it is pre-existing. This is such a scam because there was not a diagnosis prior to this date and his cough was determined by the vet to be unrelated. There's also no way of knowing when it started growing, as it wasn't even in either of the ultrasounds conducted. It was very small, so there is a possibility it grew after. I am requesting letters from the vet to appeal, but I am worried they'll decline again saying it must have started growing before the policy. Do I have legs to stand on in a formal complaint? File insurance claim or pay out of pocket? Posted: 26 Sep 2020 01:10 PM PDT I was driving at night hit an object on the road...some kind of branch although I couldn't get a good look. I couldn't swerve as there's a car next to me. There is a big crack on the front bumper. I called dealership and they quoted me $1500 for bumper replacement+paint My deductible is $500 with Geico. I read that hitting object on the road is considered at fault. I'm deciding if i should use insurance or just pay out of pocket. Anyone know how much premium usually go up for stuff like this? This is in California [link] [comments] |
Geico car insurance increase after accident Posted: 26 Sep 2020 04:47 PM PDT Hi everyone, I was in a minor car accident (no one injured) 2 days ago and reported it to geico the same night it happened. I was driving down a street when another car exited a parking lot and hit my car. I am fairly certain I won't be found at fault since I also have a witness, who's also a lawyer, who was driving behind me at the time of the accident. Geico is doing an investigation but I saw on my geico app that my bill for October is already $150 more than September, and the payments following that are about $130 more than September's. Will my insurance still increase this much if I was found not at fault? And for how long? I'm just confused why it's already increased when they're still investigating. Does anyone have any experience with geico rate increases after an accident you weren't at fault for? Thank you [link] [comments] |
Auto Insurance, personal injury protection, and health care Posted: 26 Sep 2020 02:36 PM PDT Hi. I have Geico and they are charging me $600 annually for PIP (personal injury protection). But the health care that I have covers EVERYTHING and I don't pay any copay or anything. so my question is, my PIP is $8k a year with no deductibles, I can choose the option with $8k deductible and save $600 a year, so how does PIP work and if I have full health coverage and don't need GEICOs help. Do I need their PIP? [link] [comments] |
At fault driver does not have a policy Posted: 26 Sep 2020 12:25 PM PDT Hello, I was recently rear-ended and the at-fault driver apparently does not have coverage through their policy, since it expired a week prior to the collision. I ended up filing through collision coverage through my own insurance. However, now I am trying to file a diminished value claim, but I do not have anyone to file it through. I have contacted my insurance (Geico) several times about it and am hearing different things whether or not their subrogation unit is able to help me recover DV and rental car payment. I am not sure what to do at this point. Also my car is a 2019 model with 10k miles and the accident occurred in Virginia. I am considering asking out right to the at-fault party for the compensation. I appreciate any suggestions on what I should do. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Home insurance claim and Sabotage Posted: 26 Sep 2020 12:08 PM PDT Hi! I had a pipe burst 3 weeks ago and having a difficult time getting things moving. We had issues with the water/mold mitigation company from the start. This is my first home insurance claim so I didn't really know what to expect but things took a turn for the worst this week. I don't want to make this too long so key info: Located in NC 9/5 Leak found and fixed. Initial contact with water mitigation company. 9/9 Mold remediation started. Guys came out for 2 hours, left for lunch and didn't return. 9/10 Decent amount of work completed (4 hours) 9/11 Came out for 2 hours asked if we were having trouble getting into kitchen because the plastic had partly fell down. Told them that we have taped it up multiple times but it continues to fall. Made no attempt to fix it. Asked about the air scrubber being turned off? No idea what he was talking about but we had lost power the night before so possible that it didn't automatically come back on. Said they were looking for someone to take countertops off and planned on coming back Monday for that and to check moisture readings. Dehumidifier was placed in crawlspace where mold is. 9/14 Came out for 2 hours and worked in crawlspace. No one came inside. 9/15 No one came. Called/text and complained about moisture readings being high and now seeing mold. Also asked for invoice. No response. 9/16 Manager came around 1:30. Showed him where the mold inside was and complained that nothing had been done to prevent that. Someone else finally came hours later to unscrew countertops and base cabinets. Guys disconnected sink and dishwasher. Left with valves pouring water into a bucket... didn't bother to mention it. (We tried to replace valves but had trouble so we hooked dishwasher supply line back up to prevent further leaking. *leak occurred in wall behind sink cabinet. Cabinets were built in place on subfloor. No type of venting was done on cabinet. No one had entered our house in 5 days at that point. 9/17 Manager came for 10 mins to cap the leaking valves... 24 hours later. 9/18 Guys came for 1.5 hours to remove remaining flooring that was under new cabinets. Said they were done and would return tomorrow for the fans 9/19 Came to get fans, gave me someone else's paperwork which I read over and then told them that wasn't us so they gave me a blank form to sign... and they would fill it out at office? Did NOT sign! Ok so on 9/22 we called our adjuster and asked when he would come be coming out and asked if we could move the cabinets covered in mold to garage. He was confused and asked if we were sure it was mold. It definitely was! We sent pictures of mold on cabinets and on floor and the adjuster made the remediation company come back out. The manager of the remediation company called and said he was very disturbed by our images... even though he is the one I complained to about the mold! So they come out 9/23 and removed SOME of the mold cabinets. This is where things get crazy! I overheard the manager say something like "this puts the insurance and us in a bind" so I'm like what?? I didn't hear everything but I knew 100% that there was NOTHING we have done to put anyone in a bind including ourselves. So I'm already annoyed and text my husband this. I mean these people were there 4 days after "finishing" the job bc they did not actually do the job? Well this man tells me that he is going to turn the water off to cap the valves. I'm like ok... he had already capped the valves so I didn't really understand what he was doing but I am upstairs with my toddlers. So I don't go on and on... this man cut our valves off our copper pipes... all the way to the wall! Maybe this isn't that big of a deal but what possible reason did he have for this? And he told me that once he turned the water back on that the toilet just went swooosh! What??? So he's basically saying it occurred while they were here. They were taking cabinets apart and removing nails/staples that day... something I'm sure they already billed for! But as he's telling me about the toilet... he's saying that he's going to call the adjuster and let him know and while he's saying this... my husband text me to tell me that he has already called adjuster and complained that we had a toilet leak!!?? We had no leak and have pictures of floors the previous day of a dry floor!! He even goes as far to tell me that we don't need to fix it.. he will be back in 2 days to fix it. (He of course didn't come and we fixed it the same day) But the toilet that had NO LEAK now leaked in 2 places! How likely is that? It looked like it was leaking from tank near bolt and also leaking from the bottom! We got it fixed and called our agent and complained. He said that he was going to turn it into investigations but we haven't heard anything from anyone. I 100% believe this man purposely damaged our toilet to cause leak as an excuse/cover to why we had mold on the floors and cabinets. (We sent pics 3 days after the job was "completed" so it's not even a possibility) also don't understand the point of it bc he was already in trouble for not taking care of the mold so what was the point? The toilet leak went through the wall to kitchen so the floor was wet again. One last thing... communication has sucked so far and we found out Tuesday that the adjuster was not coming out due to COVID and the manager of the water remediation company was actually suppose to take measurements and give details about the damages. The remediation company didn't seem to know this either? The remediation company caused a lot of damages... some to be expected but they were really careless/negligent! I took pictures every single day from the beginning and they dinged up our new appliances! They actually put my 12 foot custom epoxy countertop laying across cabinets and dishwasher. No support and was unlevel. We did epoxy so it would be seamless. It's in a shape similar to a lighting bolt. But now it is cracked. Manager actually moved cabinets back to wall and placed countertop back like we wouldn't notice? I have pictures and sent to the adjuster of our floors being dry and no leak! Will he believe whatever this guy is trying to pull? I mean he was there bc they did not actually do the job they were sent for? Also, how is it fair for him to be responsible for letting the adjuster know about our damages. He apparently didn't know that either... when they came Wednesday, we pointed out the laminate that was damaged (from water) and he was surprised and said he would measure it. His team had to know about the damaged laminate bc they tore some when they pulled tape up! What about the damages they caused? We sent pictures of everything including how mold was allowed to grow and proof that there was no visible mold 10 days prior and have a text complaining about the mold and high moisture readings. So can anyone give me advice of what to do next? How can I get someone else out here to look at damages. And how can I let this lying man back into my house... he 100% caused the leak! We have never signed anything and haven't released the funds for this company to get paid yet. We have not been given an invoice. Can insurance pay them without our consent? This entire thing has been ridiculous. 3 weeks in and we have no info of what we do next and haven't heard from our adjuster since this happened. [link] [comments] |
Loss of Earnings Question (UK) Posted: 26 Sep 2020 06:02 AM PDT Hi everyone, UK based here with a question. 2 years ago I was hit by a car and suffered a fractured spine, the driver's insurance admitted all liability. I work in finance so luckily I have continued to work at home. I have a question about my loss of earnings. My Harley Street Back Surgeon has examined me as part of the medical evidence gathering and stated categorically that my spine is too damaged to commute and I would be severely prejudiced against in the labour market. As I mentioned, I continue to work for my currentl employer from home, however, when its time for the case to be settled, how would I be compensated for LoE if I'm still working? I work in finance and the likelihood of being made redundant somewhere along the line is quite high. So if the case is settled with just damages and no LoE, but then I get lose my job a week later, how does that work? Thanks TB [link] [comments] |
Medicare/Medicaid Single Case Agreement for Out of State Medical Services? Posted: 25 Sep 2020 06:51 PM PDT My grandmom lives in NY but is in PA staying with a relative as my aunt had to leave the country on some business. Unfortunately, my grandmother had to be hospitalized in PA and now requiring at-home PT and home health care until she can return to NY. She has UHC Community Health Plan Dual Complete. From my understanding this means she has both Medicaid and Medicare. The problem I am running into is getting coverage for her medical services while out of state. I work in mental health and there is something called a single case agreement (SCA) where an insurance company agrees to bill an out-of-network provider as in network due to certain circumstances such specialized care that cannot be obtained in network. I cannot find any information on whether this is possible through UHC Community Health Plan. So my questions are: I also will try to call her insurance tomorrow once the lines open up again. However, as a mental health provider that has called insurance companies before, they have not been too helpful unfortunately so just seeing if there is any info anyone here can offer. Many thanks!
