How does After hours trading work? Posted: 03 Aug 2020 01:11 PM PDT If I sell something after hours, does it execute after hours or next morning when the market opens again? And if it's after hours, does it only execute if there's a buyer also trading after hours? [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Aug 2020 09:07 PM PDT Whenever I watch the news, they use the Dow 30 as "the market". For example, they would say the market is down a certain amount of points when only the Dow is. And now apparently with Apple's stock split, there will be less weight of Apple in the Dow? So less Apple (probably their best performer). This makes no sense to me, but apparently that's how the Dow works. I don't know anybody personally who invests in ETFs/Indexes that track the Dow. But they do get decent volume. To me, I feel the Dow is like my grand dad's stocks. There are some good names, but it's mostly old names. I usually only use it as a reference to see how the old American companies are doing. Lot of them pay good dividends. So I will give them that. And it's only 30 stocks and I think all of them will still be around 50 years from now. [link] [comments]
$2,500 to put into the market tomorrow morning Posted: 03 Aug 2020 06:16 PM PDT What would you put the $2,500 into? I was strongly leaning toward putting it all into Apple but I'm starting to move toward an ETF like $SPY. What stock or ETF would you choose? [link] [comments]
Why stocks will hit new all-time highs within months Posted: 03 Aug 2020 03:34 AM PDT Investors should prepare for new all-time highs in the stock market and have exposure to both the FANG stocks and the so-called "epicenter" stocks, or companies that were hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. >>> https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stock-market-outlook-new-highs-within-months-fundstrat-tom-lee-2020-7-1029458731# [link] [comments]
Want to get into the stock market Posted: 03 Aug 2020 01:30 PM PDT Hi everyone, I just finished highschool this year and I have around $1k in savings that I can invest into stocks. I want to get into stocks and try to make a profit out of it. I honestly have no idea where to start, how to read the market, which stocks to buy etc. I've been trying to do some research but I don't really know exactly where to begin. It feels like there's so many methods and things you need to learn before you get started so hopefully this sub can give me some direction on where I need to start and what I need to study. I plan on buying low and selling high as well as doing some long term investing. Any help is greatly appreciated! [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Aug 2020 03:43 PM PDT So I just checked my stocks on td Ameritrade and 19 "oxy+wi" is at the top with no information. I own oxy so not sure what that oxy wi is. Any thoughts? [link] [comments]
Just a few questions after some self learning! Posted: 03 Aug 2020 07:28 PM PDT Before i start, i am sorry if you have seen or answered these questions but after watching a lot of videos and reading articles, its very overwhelming! A few reasons why i want to start investing, first and foremost, i am recklessly spending money in games which i officially stopped a few months because of COVID, i noticed it wasn't the games i was addicted to but the gambling aspect. I understand i shouldn't be spending my savings!
Thanks to those who have answered! [link] [comments]
Using the Sun to Predict a Crash (?) Posted: 03 Aug 2020 07:14 PM PDT This might sound ridiculous but has anyone else used sunspot graphs to predict a recession or crash? I used to know a couple of people who followed them in the past but that was for making sure that their electronics and servers didn't get damaged, not for market reasons. Everytime theres a dip in the annual number of sunspots there's a crash and it seems to coincide with previous recessions. Hell, it's even allowed me to predict the 2008 sub prime mortgage crisis and the dot-com bubble. Could this phenomenon just be a spurious correlation or is it something more? [link] [comments]
Top 5 Things To Know In The Stock Market This Week Posted: 03 Aug 2020 12:36 PM PDT Here are some things people in the market are talking about this week. US Stock Futures Find It Hard To Gain A Strong FootholdDow Jones futures fell slightly Sunday night, while S&P 500 futures were flat and Nasdaq futures rose modestly. But as of Monday, 6.31 am E.T., Dow Jones was up 0.11%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite indexes rose 0.26% and 0.74% respectively. The reason that these stock futures were trading a little soft could be because the U.S is likely to announce stricter measures against Chinese companies. The delays to a fresh tranche of fiscal support could also be a reason for lower confidence in the pace of the economic recovery. Microsoft Confirms TikTok DealsU.S-China tensions could still be a major headwind for the stock market in the coming days. Microsoft said it held talks to buy the U.S. operations of TikTok. This came as President Trump is looking to ban the popular China-owned video social media site due to security reasons. Confirming talks between CEO Satya Nadella and President Trump, Microsoft said Sunday it is prepared to continue discussions to purchase TikTok's U.S. operations until Sept. 15. "Microsoft fully appreciates the importance of addressing the President's concerns," the company said in a statement. "It is committed to acquiring TikTok subject to a complete security review and providing proper economic benefits to the United States, including the United States Treasury." Earnings Winding DownEarnings for major technology companies have seen them crushing analysts' estimates. Recall that we saw strong reports from Apple, Amazon, Facebook, and Google last week. As we continue to wind down the earnings season, there are still some big names reporting their results this week. These include Disney, Square, and Activision Blizzard. There are also other notable names reporting this week including Roku, Wayfair, and The New York Times. Major Central Bank DecisionsFour more central banks are announcing interest rate decisions this week after the Fed did so last week. These include Australia's central bank on Tuesday, followed by Brazil's on Wednesday. On Thursday, the UK's and India's central banks will be announcing rates. Given the importance of these economies, analysts will be monitoring the decisions of these central banks closely. US UnemploymentMany will be looking forward to the release of the July unemployment rate this Friday. This will serve as a reality check. Economists are expecting a slight decline to 10.3%. This will be released together with a range of data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics on the U.S. labor market. The relatively small estimated drop in unemployment is not suggesting a quick recovery of the job market. That's in line with the trend in the weekly initial unemployment claims. Also on Friday, the nonfarm payrolls shall provide additional insights on the impact of the ongoing crisis on different sectors of the economy. [link] [comments]
Help me understand liquidity agreements and why they happen at certain times? Posted: 03 Aug 2020 05:45 AM PDT I've seen a few of these the past few months and I don't really understand why they happen. What's happening to the stock that a liquidity agreement would be executed? Are they trying to increase the stock price, suppress it, or just make some profit? Is it used to counteract short sellers? Really not sure. Here's an example of one I saw today! https://www.lse.co.uk/rns/NCYT/liquidity-agreement-and-total-voting-rights-sd8542juctq86et.html Anyone knows the ins and outs here? As far as I know the market maker provides liquidity so why do these even exist.. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Aug 2020 05:51 PM PDT Thinking about 2021, is anybody thinking about altering positions based on who wins the election? Havent put much thought into it yet. I see both parties possibly being good for infrastructure. A Biden win being good for companies like Tesla, alternative energy, Maybe good for healthcare and banking - I can find arguments for and against with a Biden victory. Re-election: Traditionally Republicans boost Defense, but 45 seems isolationist and combative metaphorically, not militarily. So maybe Defense goes sideways. Covid-19 throws a lot of uncertainty into things as well. What are your thoughts? InvestorPlace 10 stocks to buy based on who wins the election [link] [comments]
Are the estimates from analysts gaap or non-gaap? Posted: 03 Aug 2020 01:49 PM PDT I regurarly check for consolidated estimates of analysts at yahoo or earnings whisper in order to see if a company has compared good or bad in the last quarter. However i am not sure if the estimates i am getting on these sites have to be compared with the GAAP or Non-GAAP results the companies announce. Does anyone know this? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Aug 2020 04:35 PM PDT I'm sure this sub has gotten thousands of this same question, but what is the best way to educate yourself about how stocks work and how to get started? I'm super interested but know nothing.... Any feedback is appreciated thanks! [link] [comments]
Starting to add dividend stocks in my portfolio - Is it worth it? Posted: 03 Aug 2020 04:29 PM PDT Hey guys, boring investor here. I wanted to stretch my passive interest in some ways through dividend ETF stocks. Any recommendations that I might be interested in a high dividend ETF? [link] [comments]
How do you determine which stocks to research / look into when trading? Posted: 03 Aug 2020 06:49 AM PDT So I've been on Robinhood (I know, I know) for some time and have had pretty good returns as an investor (buying and holding), but now I'm looking to get more involved in trading (buying and selling). I've been doing research recently and I feel much more comfortable researching stocks and understanding charts to know when to buy and sell. However, where I struggle is knowing which stocks I should even be looking at. What resources do you guys use to find which stocks you want to pull up charts and do some research on? Posted: 03 Aug 2020 01:42 PM PDT Does anyone know how to access real-time trade APIs from E-trade and Robinhood? I have searched almost everywhere I could but not been unable to find anything. I am looking to be able to access real-time trade data for users who authorize me to access their data. Any help would be great, thanks! [link] [comments]
RTX - why have they been tanking Posted: 03 Aug 2020 06:43 AM PDT RTX keep going down down down the past week I've been buying on the dip each time. Please shed some light to keep me from selling feel like I can make a decent penny if I hold but the jitters are kicking in. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Aug 2020 08:56 AM PDT I'm still getting my bearings on how taxes work when investing. Are taxes owed every year on gains regardless of whether or not you pulled out the money from the market, or are taxes owed the year you actually transfer the money out of the market? If you're taxed every year on gains regardless if you pull out the taxes or not, are you taxed again when you pull out the money? [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Aug 2020 08:43 AM PDT RL is down 3% today while many other similar stocks are up. I guess people expect earnings tomorrow to not meet expectations. Maybe it also has to do with the Lord + Taylor bankruptcy and how that company owes Ralph Lauren millions of dollars. Well, I'm waiting for the tide to turn.. I'm holding a big position in RL and I'm confident it will bounce back to $90 eventually. What do you all think? [link] [comments]
First time to add high dividend ETF in my portfolio with only $250 Posted: 03 Aug 2020 07:29 AM PDT I'm just getting started into High Dividend ETF. I'm planning to allocate 10% of my portfolio with dividend but as of now, I'll just start at $250 for my budget. I was thinking to invest my $250 in KBWD, since they have a 13.54% dividend yield? Do you this is a good start? [link] [comments]

Can you execute Conditional Contingent orders when you are shorting a stock? Posted: 03 Aug 2020 03:50 AM PDT I tried to place a Conditional Contingent Sell Short order on Etrade but I guess the stock was hard to borrow and it wouldn't go through. Can you Short a stock using a Conditional Contingent order if it is not hard to borrow? Can you do it using another broker besides Etrade? Thanks in advance for any responses. [link] [comments]
Watchlist: 8/3 New Month, China Tensions, 5G Posted: 03 Aug 2020 03:46 AM PDT Market Notes: We are starting August in the middle of earnings season. Markets were choppy through all of July and are pointing towards a choppy open to finish out summer. Tensions with China are rising as the Trump Administration is moving to ban the TikTok app in the US. Exactly what this ban looks like and how it will be enforced will be interesting to see. I'm keeping an eye on 5G stocks this month. Some of the higher float plays have been making new highs, I'll be watching some of the lower floats. Watchlist: UUU is a low float, resistance at $2.90 CLSK is a low float, resistance at $7.66 HBP is a low float, resistance at $3 OIIM is a lowish float, flying in the premarket, on watch ICLK has resistance at $7.29 CENX has resistance at $8.74 CRNT has resistance at $2.77 SOGO has resistance at $8.70 FLDM is on watch GSS has resistance at $4.56 WTRH has resistance at $5.55 [link] [comments] |
