Has anyone risked everything and failed? Posted: 07 Apr 2020 09:23 PM PDT We always hear stories of entrepreneurs who are super successful but started at the bottom or lost everything along the way... but I wonder how many people started under good circumstances, lost everything and never found their success story [link] [comments] |
What adjustments have you made during quarantine that is setting you apart from your competition? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 10:44 AM PDT I own a martial arts gym. We're obviously not the only game in town switching to virtual classes. It seems like everyone's got a different approach... Especially us. The first 2 weeks we were shut down, I was in denial. I didn't think we'd be out for 6+ weeks. The third week that denial went strait to depression... I went through all 5 stages pretty fast. One night (Monday) was depression over losing something I've sacrificed so much for... Tuesday I accepted that it's out of my control and I need to keep pushing forward. Wednesday I set up special Facebook groups, put out an ad and an event for free live workshops, and started pushing everything through the group. Today I'm the only martial arts gym in Minneapolis (that I've been able to find) that's even considered anything like this. In the last week I've gotten 45 leads, and will start attempting to close over the phone with some special offers, access to daily zoom classes (instead of once a week) and a couple promotions to help give peace of mind, save some money in all this uncertainty, and enroll new members... While everyone else has stopped marketing and advertising, we're doubling down. What have you done to set yourself apart? [link] [comments] |
Banker here- Been working day and night on SBA PPP loans. AMA Posted: 07 Apr 2020 10:49 PM PDT Been working countless hours on SBA PPP loans since they released. How to survive COVID-19 with minimum damage? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 02:46 AM PDT Having a bit of experience working as a PM, I'd like to hear first hand from PMs what their top concerns are given these unpredictable circumstances, and am especially interested in how they vary from field to field. How do you communicate with team about clients retention? Do you have this concern? Have you thought to optimize some of your product/service positions, giving less value for a cheaper price? Or, is it a loss-strategy, since your clients got used to paying less? Which project management strategies do you apply, to keep your team working at the same level of performance? The most efficient way to make money online. Affiliate links. Posted: 08 Apr 2020 03:02 PM PDT Affiliate links are the simplest and easiest way to make money online. You sign up with a company and they give you links to promote. When someone buys a product with the links you promoted you get a commission on the sale. The best way to promote these links is Reddit. Most subreddits do not allow it including this one so I recommend a good place to start is r/affiliatedeals. They encourage people to post affiliate links because it motivates the people posting the links to post the best deals and gives the best place to find the best deals for the consumer. Where do you find an updated list for new startups? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 02:30 PM PDT I'm wondering if there is a place that aggregates all the new/recent startups. I guess I'm looking for something similar to crunchbase but managed by the community. I will be down to create something if there's none - I would only need the data. [link] [comments] |
How would I go about starting a self-storage facility once I have the money to do so? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 02:21 PM PDT This is far in the future so I may sound a bit naive, but I'm wondering about this in terms of land-use purposes. I know every jurisdiction is different but I'm hearing conflicting information about what I'd need to do. Some sites are saying that I'd need to petition to whatever town it's in to "allow me to develop there", But why would I need to do that? Doesn't C-_ or B-_ zoning give you the right to put whatever you want (within the zoning/code's guidelines) on that property? At what point does a town need to give you "development permission"? Also, to get permission (if it is needed), wouldn't I need to own the land first? If so, isn't that sort of paradoxical and highly risky, because I might have just wasted hundreds of thousands of dollars on land that I can't use for my intended purpose? Again, I know I'm probably asking stupid questions but I don't know how else I'd get this information. I have to start somewhere. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Apr 2020 02:13 PM PDT Hi guys, Could you suggest your favorite book to improve/generate sales? I would like to read a book about sales, cold calling/emails and the most important about sales psychology, so I can sell better. Regards [link] [comments] |
If I loved ‘Zero to One’ what other books would you recommend? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 02:11 PM PDT Started a company during my MBA doing light financial modeling work and am looking to learn more about entrepreneurship and startups. Really enjoyed Thiel's breakdown of the mindset- any other recommended reading? [link] [comments] |
How I get a 58.4% conversion rate Posted: 08 Apr 2020 01:49 PM PDT This is how I get a 58.4% conversion rate on my landing page, from cold traffic. While I don't believe I'm setting the world on fire, there are a few core things that I believe anyone can use on their landing pages to increase conversion rates. You probably already know that the typical conversion rate is 2.5% while the top 10% highest converting landing pages see rates of 11%. But if you're struggling to convert, bear in mind that conversion rates vary from industry to industry, with some industries seeing close to zero. Anyway, here are a few things you could try:
Make an offer that solves a VERY specific problem or promises a specific outcome. Even though I'm talking about landing pages typically used for lead gen, you can (and probably should) apply sales techniques. So you gotta hit their emotions, and their logic... you need to appeal to both... and an easy way to do that is with clear features and benefits. There's a famous saying "sell the sizzle, not the steak". Or another one I like is... "A man needs two reasons to buy something, the reason he tells his wife, and the real reason".
You have to address their pain points, know their goals, and overcome their objections. I think a large part of marketing is establishing rapport through mirroring their desire, acknowledging their struggle, and overcoming their objections. It's ok to occasionally repeat yourself on the page, if it helps to make your message clear and easier to understand. You can remind them why they're there in the first place. And then give them multiple ways to take action. Anyway, just figured I'd share what's working for me with you guys, and happy to answer questions. [link] [comments] |
I Got a Copywrite Strike From Fall Out Boy for Selling Fallout Cosplay Items. Posted: 08 Apr 2020 09:41 AM PDT I have been profitable since the first month of my eCommerce business. My initial costs were less than $1000, and made around $1500 the first month with an insane profit margin. It didn't really feel like it was hard work, because it wasn't. I did it by accident, it's just an honest answer. The thing about Etsy is that, in my opinion, it is a get rich quick scheme. As we know, that term is shady as hell, as is Etsy. You can get a business up and running, making at least $1000 in the first month SO easily, it makes all other businesses seem stupid. But like all "get rich schemes" comes with a catch: Etsy suspends and bans people for no reason, or almost no reason, all the time. That also happened to me. I was making Cosplay stuff inspired by the videogame "Fallout" - I remember I was afraid of copyright issues so I contacted the company who owns the franchise. The legal team eventually responded and said, they don't really allow, but then won't take it down either. This for me meant I could do it but they couldn't really say "you can do it" because they would be giving me a license, which they don't want to, not without paying a huge fee of course. I still sell this stuff by the way, if you are curious. Later on, I got a copyright strike on my store…but it wasn't from the people who own Fallout - it was from the punk rock band called "Fall Out Boy", which has nothing to do with Fallout the videogame. My store got suspended because I had 3 or 4 different items taken down on different days, for the same reason. My suspicion is: they randomly selected items that were ranking for their keywords, and my stuff got caught in the middle. My store was permanently suspended (banned) and from one day to another I had no business. Not only that, but they also banned my girlfriend's Etsy store because we shared the same IP address. She had nothing to do with it, and got banned too! I was shook and didn't know what to do. I needed money fast, so I quickly created a new store using Wix to build my own website, and slowly started getting sales again using the Facebook and Instagram fans I got along the way. Can people post business banners in public locations? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 01:14 PM PDT I've noticed a ton of advertisements just put everywhere in my city. I'm wondering if it's legal, or if anyone has put up any banners "illegally" but no one has cared. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 08 Apr 2020 12:41 PM PDT Hello, not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but I'm wanting to create a website that has the potential to generate some income. Have a few ideas rolling but not sure where to go now. How would I go about setting up the website, hosting, all the technical checklist that needs to be complete? Also, if this route is taken, how would I set up a possible buying/selling market on the site itself, sort of like ebay? [link] [comments] |
First steps validating course ideas, also deciding between products Posted: 08 Apr 2020 12:33 PM PDT With clients hitting major cashflow issues just before Covid19, and one collapsing because of it this week before they could pay a bean, I've been left in a not great financial situation, and have been trying to think of ways to leverage my experience during this global lockdown. Like many others in this sub, I thought perhaps developing and selling an e-learning course was worth exploring. My experience over the last 12 years has been in government relations, govtech and B2G/ large corporate sales, and consulting on communications, remote operations, and business development. I have been lucky enough to work with very senior people within governments within the UK and EU, and know some non-typical engagement strategies that most people, even within the sector, may not know. I have also built good experience in developing strategies for sales and comms, and building remote team processes. I figured some of these experiences and the non-typical strategies I have learned may be useful to some folks in this time. I would appreciate any feedback, if anybody has a moment, on 2 things. Firstly, which course idea (if any) would provide most value to you as business owners or senior decision makers. Secondly, if one course idea does seem useful to you, what are your pain points and what do you wish you had the knowledge or a turnkey playbook to do? Course idea 1: Building a remote SaaS or Govtech sales team. Course idea 2: A course helping SME's, charities and social enterprises develop non-typical strategies to engage and influence decision makers. Government and parliamentary influence is dominated by major corporates and larger charities, but there are things smaller companies and charities can do to get their voices heard and speak to decision makers directly. Course idea 3: crafting a three stage presentation process that works for government sales and large corporate sales. If nobody sees value in any of the above, that's really useful to know! If one course jumps out as useful, I would love to know what your pain points are and what transformation you would like to undergo so I can be sure to target those too. Thanks for any help chaps! Don’t want to sound like the General ‘idea guy’ but pls lend me a moment. Here’s why ; Posted: 08 Apr 2020 12:26 PM PDT So I am looking to work on this company, which is a software company that builds both trust/reassurance and a relationship between consumers and autonomous vehicle. Using our app users can input their feelings, moods and favorite places to go etc. This information is then directly transmitted from the app and into the self driving vehicle using artificial intelligence and machine learning. Imagine if you was stressed out in the morning and you simply press "stressed" on our app, and once you get on, your vehicle starts playing chilling music 🎶 which reflects your mood. Or that the the vehicle knows your favorite restaurant and when you press 'Food stop', it takes you to McDonalds or wherever. I personally believe this would increase consumer trust/reassurance and confidence in autonomous vehicles More than 70% of American don't trust self driving vehicles yet they're the future, and sure this statistic may be due to the safety aspects which a lot of big tech companies are trying to get ahead of, however something like this is not their focus currently in my opinion. What do you think reading this ? Ask me questions please Anything from criticism, to financial/technical questions are welcome! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Apr 2020 12:21 PM PDT Alright, so here's the situation. A few years back my family inherited 77 acres of land in the interior of British Columbia. Some important pieces of information about the property: - The land is in a very sunny, dry area with no trees on the property I've been evaluating a few ideas on what to do with this land, but am coming up somewhat short due to restrictions on each, for example solar power: BC Hydro has cut their buyback program, so that's seemingly a no-go. I'm hoping someone can inspire another idea, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
capitalizing on assets just sitting around. Posted: 08 Apr 2020 12:17 PM PDT Something we're capitalizing on right now, is buying/partnering with small businesses who have a transactional email account, that is in good standing, that my company can "rent" from them for a month or two while they're sending lower volumes. It's been a win-win, as I get a discount on the services they are paying for each month - while they get cash coming in they wouldn't already have. Have you guys done anything similar to get a deal in this shit timeline? [link] [comments] |
Young entrepreneur with a business plan Posted: 08 Apr 2020 04:41 AM PDT I've written a business plan for an app I really think will work but I'm not sure of my next step. I'm not an app builder so it's not like I can start bringing the app to life. It's had great feedback from those in the industry but I'm unsure of what to do now? What do I do next? Shipping items at a generic mail courier that isn't official USPS. Are my packages still insured? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 09:31 AM PDT There is a very small mail courier near me, it's essentially just an empty store with a banner on top saying it accepts USPS/FedEx/UPs/DHL. I dropped an item off as a test yesterday and they scanned it in and gave me one of those labels with receipt of dropping the item off. It hasn't moved in the usPS system but they said it's because USPs has to collect it first. I just wanted to check, is my insurance still valid using these places? It's very handy as I don't want to go to USPS and stand in line with 30 other people, where this hole in the wall mail courier is never busy. [link] [comments] |
