What are some of your favorite sales tools such as: books, videos, online courses (Udemy or other), etc. to sharpen sales skills?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 08:48 AM PDT

During this time where many of us are out of work due to COVID-19 or like me, just have a lot of extra time on our hands bc I work in outside sales - what are some of your favorite sales tools that you've used where you ACTUALLY learned something useful?

Favorite sales books, podcasts, videos, online classes, etc.

I want to stay sharp and also take this time to learn some new skills where I otherwise was too busy to devote extra time to.

One month in and I discover my bonus is capped

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 03:18 AM PDT

It's my fault, "what isn't openly positive is covertly negative" and I was naive to think that the absence of mention of uncapped bonus would mean the bonus is capped.

But there it is. The company is nice, the industry is great (CPG), people are cool and there is room for me to learn here. But commissions are capped... at least until next year. So I feel lost.

Should I quit? Should I still try and show they have incentives to uncap? Should I be a dickhead and stop trying once my goal is reached? Should I go for crushing numbers then negotiating a consequent modification in my remuneration system?

Considering the company is nice and the pay is okayish (OTE of 31k EUR netto yearly at 100% goals completion, that's not bad for a junior position in Europe).

A question to IT Sales guys - sources for knowledge.

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 10:04 AM PDT

    Hi
I'm a relatively new one (+1 level from a noob) in the IT sales area in Europe, but I'm determined to prosper here.
So I have a 2 question to more experienced guys:

    1) What are the best sources to learn about IT sector in general?
By that, I mean trends, events, companies, etc. Maybe some portals or magazines?

    2) Are they any good sources about IT sales in particular? Besides that sub ofc, but maybe some blogs, YouTube channels, books or podcasts?

Thanks in advance for all answers.

    What is your backup plan?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 12:28 PM PDT

I think most of us fall into two camps right now: got let go and scared to be let go soon.

I had about 350K in late stage pipe fall apart in the month of March, and we are bootstrapped, profitable, but not swimming in cash. Company has said we are safe for now.

I have feelers out in my network but I'm taking it as a chance to prep to become a sales/solutions engineer. I've been spending more time coding and studying frameworks. I work and sell with VPs of engineering, CTOs, etc. so it helps with my current job too.

So, what is your backup plan? Curious to see how our sales community is preparing to take the next steps.

Were you ever bad at objection handling and how did you overcome this?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 02:11 PM PDT

I'm a young male about 6 months into an outside sales role for an IT solutions provider. We work with various manufacturers to provide solutions for the network and data center, and I'm having a hard time building confidence in this role.

My last job I was basically at a call center, and now I'm in this role with very minimal technical knowledge, not a great deal of sales training, and it gets me worried that I won't be successful.

I consider myself a nice guy, and it worries me I don't have what it takes to be in sales. As soon as a prospect throws an objection at me, my instinct is to say something along the lines of "ok thank you for your time please let us know if there's anything we can do to help in the future."

Did anyone else struggle with objection handling early in their career? How did you overcome this? What other things helped you build confidence in your role?

Appreciate everyone's feedback and insights. Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!

    Get first sale - Saas

Anyone here that works as an saas commissioned sales rep?

Young & unsure of where to go from here..

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 10:12 AM PDT

Hope everyone is doing well with these these tough times. I wanted to get some insight into what could be some options for me going forward.

Currently working for a logistics brokerage and have been here close to two years . (First job out of college) I started out as an inside rep and did pretty well especially becuase I had no sales backround and was given zero training and basically forced to learn everything on my own. Recently was promoted into an outside role. I was supposed to move to make my full time transition as an outside rep last month but with everything going on that obviously didn't happen and we are now working remotely.

Last week we had a company wide conference call and were informed that we will be working 4 day weeks going forward as well as taking a 20 percent pay cut. Later that week I spoke with my boss and basically told we are expected to work that "day off." At this point I can see the writing on the wall and expect to be laid off as some of my key customer have shut down due to the virus and it's almost impossible to bring on new business in this climate. My question to everyone is should I start looking for a new job? I enjoy outside sales and love what I do but cannot stand the industry I'm in due to various reasons. I would love to make the jump to SaaS but I am open to any other industry as well.

    Starting career in Software Sales

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 05:36 AM PDT

    Hi all.

I have started my career in Software Sales and there were a few things I wanted to know in terms of setting myself up for success and opportunities.

    1. Coming from a non-technical background in can be difficult to grasp certain things around the product, what is the best way to learn the technical side of the product as someone starting out?
    2. Is it all possible to go into Technical Sales further down the line, if so what do I have to do to get there?
    3. I have realized a lo of successful people came from technical backgrounds particularly starting their own company, is that possible for a salesperson to do in the tech industry?
    4. What is more important in software sales, product knowledge or sales skills/knowledge, I ask because for everyone its different.
    5. This question may not be relevant, but in terms of individuals at the top of the chain such as CEOs, CIOs etc , what do you think gets them to that level , what qualities

I am open to all answers that can help.

    Thanks!

Focus your selling activities and speed up sales - Who wants in?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 09:07 AM PDT

    Hello Businesspeople!

I'm creating a Sales Conversion Analytics tool to help growing businesses clearly identify their strongest and warmest leads (based on evaluation and $$$ potential). The tool will integrate this evaluation data back to any CRM, Sales Automation/Engagement tool, so you can build segments and understand who your best and most likely to convert prospects are.

I'd like businesses to test this, and completely free. Yes, not a dime on charge, all I ask is for feedback and suggestions on how to make it better.

Care to know more? Please DM me or reply right here. I'll get you to complete 5 Y/N Qs on a Google form (plus your opinion) and add you to a test-list. Otherwise, you've nothing to lose.

NB: Caveat You MUST have a website (with pages and Call-To-Actions), and you MUST have at LEAST 50 leads web visits per month! You will also be using a tool to email prospect - it doesn't matter which one, any will do!

Know someone I should interview for a new podcast?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 12:30 PM PDT

We're launching a new podcast, and we're interview successful sales reps and leaders to share their unique journeys to success. I'm particularly interested if the journey into sales was unusual or a surprise to them!

If you (or someone you know) fits the bill, I'd invite you to pass them along. Hopefully we can help raise their profiles, and bring some exposure to the real stories behind sales careers.

    https://forms.gle/cwMCAuAa91FQoP3n6

    Pre-empting some questions:

    1. My personal network is heavily biased towards tech (SaaS in particular) so I'm especially interested in the journeys of people in other sectors.
    2. The interviews last 30 mins, no prep needed.
    3. The the interviews are recorded online - you can use your mic & computer or you can call in
    4. There's no video, so you can participate from anywhere
    5. Yes, it's 100% ok to suggest yourself - that is actually the easiest as then people know why we're reaching out ;)

So far our guests include CEO's, VPs of Sales, former sales managers, AEs and SDRs - we're really most interested in the interesting journeys that got someone into sales, not their current role.

    Business Supplies to Tech

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 10:13 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

I was recently furloughed from my AE position with a business supplies company (I.e. furniture, coffee, cleaning supplies, etc.) in NYC. I've been in this position for three years (first job out of college) but believe it is time to leave this industry altogether and explore a sales role in tech.

The sales cycle in tech seems to be longer and more complex than my current role, in which I am selling commodities mainly based on price. I am worried my current position will make me less marketable to these tech companies.

Background: actively manage 200+ accounts which equates to about $2.5 mil in annual sales and am continuously adding new prospects to my pipeline to hit monthly quotas.

    Two questions:

(1)is my current position going to make it harder to break into a sales roles in tech?

(2)what roles should I be applying to/researching in this industry? (Hoping to not take too much of a pay cut)

Any insight/advice/suggestions would be much appreciated. I hope everyone stays safe and healthy during this hectic time!

    Thank you!!

    Thoughts on 100% commission jobs?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 09:21 AM PDT

I was laid off last month, so I'm in the market again trying to look for sales jobs. I've come across several positions where it's 100% commission with no base pay. Is that something to look into or avoid right now?

How has the COVID-19 affected your sales as a Life Insurance Agent?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 03:03 PM PDT

I had the opportunity to go into Life Insurance Sales almost a month before the pandemic affected the economy world-wide. I am curious to know if this was a big miss or a big relief on my part in terms of the ability to be successful in the role (let's assume that my ability to sell was proficient). What has your experience been as a life insurance agent recently?

my search has been mostly on linkedin typing the above listed titles. i am also on medreps.com and have found the most success in finding postings there as well as connecting with recruiters on linkedin from medreps.

    Lay-off guilt

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 08:17 PM PDT

I'm pretty new to my company. We have laid off about 33% of our staff (SaaS) and today we laid off our biggest pool of employees. It's tough. Some people have been around a few years longer than me. Part of me is grateful I'm still employed, but part of me feels guilty that people with family, or employees who have been around 3-4x longer than me no longer have their job makes me feel bad. I get it that this is an unprecedented time but also hard not to feel for great people get laid off. Not sure if there is a question here but I wanted to share how I'm feeling.

Those of you who use Semrush. I have a few questions.

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 01:30 PM PDT

I've been using it for the last 2 months and find it amazing for lead generation.

However, I never got any training on it and just want to see if I'm using it the correct way and maybe any hidden tips.

I obviously want to find companies that are using Google Ads, my problem is finding ones that have not been touched but my organisation.

What are some more niche companies that would be doing Google Ads?

    My company goes after the the usual;

    Retail Health eCommernce Law

Lastly I just put a website into the search bar and go to advertising competitors and then export the list.

Should I be upset my boss cut my bonus in half?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 07:12 AM PDT

So I just have a question with you guys if I am wrong for thinking this way or is my boss wrong.

On Jan 3 this year my boss announced he would be giving a 5 grand bonus out at the end of every quarter to whoever earned the most "points" in the office. Now this was great news because we are a very small 4 man group and basically I was only running against 1 other guy.

Everything we do (cold calls, emails, meetings etc) gets added into a spreadsheet for said points.

Well this quarter I won. Obviously the times have shifted because of Corona however my boss on the conference call said "congrats but due to the "times" I'm going to have to cut the bonus in half. Now part of me is grateful that I still have a paying job in this time, however the other part of me now believes my boss is not a man of his word. Now 5 grand isn't a lot but to a guy recently out of college with loans every penny helps. Also my boss made over 350k in the last 10 months I know regardless of the times he could afford to fulfill his promise.

    Thoughts?
