Posted: 26 Feb 2020 08:27 PM PST I was then told to call my insurance company, to which they replied that I would have to pay MY deductible for damages. And that, in the mean time, they would try to retrieve the funds from this driver. If failed, small claims court. If this is true, what's the purpose of paying insurance, if at fault driver's just get a slap on the wrist? EDIT: Thank you all for taking the time to inform me of my options. After reading the replies, $1000 does not seem like a high price compared to the headache it would be to go to court. Thank you all again. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Feb 2020 02:58 AM PST I booked a holiday and cruise in Europe, departing from Italy which is now an outbreak for the corona virus (all the way from the very desolate Australia) approximately 6 months ago for April. My concern is that I have a long history of respiratory infections, and I am on asthma-preventative medications 24/7. If I even show the slightest signs of sniffles, I immediately need to be put antibiotics (regardless if it's viral or not, because the risk is too high otherwise, and being on a course of steroids to stop me from having an asthma attack) as I've previously been hospitalised with almost respiratory arrest from a chest infection which caused my lungs to start to fail because of my asthma, ending up in ICU. With that in mind, I would anticipate that travelling to an outbreak country and then a cruise which are notorious for being a hotspot would be quite dangerous for me. I have not purchased my travel insurance yet. But if I purchased my travel insurance (with asthma as a pre-existing condition) and then saw my doctor for a letter, would this enable me to get a refund/pay out for my flights (for example)? Or would my refund for any cancellations of flights or cruise be based upon compassionate grounds by the business? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Feb 2020 06:28 AM PST I've been trying to find an answer for this online, and haven't found anything concrete. Here is my number one problem with insurance: You have to know in advance what kind of risks you might face. There are an infinite number of risks I could face.
Insurance companies only cover a very specific subset of risks. If you want to be covered by things I listed, you need to search for insurance that covers that specific kind of thing. There isn't an insurance that just covers everything. But if I save money for emergencies, then that money can be used for anything that comes up. It sounds like we are playing a game of predicting the future.. I can have an emergency fund that covers me for various small problems, but will be out of luck if a lot of very expensive things happen to me. If I get insurance, and I happen to have a problem that that insurance covers, then great. But I might spend the rest of my life paying for lots of different insurances that I never use. Other than being a better driver, how can I speed up the process of getting a lower insurance rate? Posted: 26 Feb 2020 03:42 PM PST I was kicked off my insurance plan this past year for too many accidents. 2 myself and one from a refugee I was helping who had a car in my name. Lost the car/home discount which made my home insurance go up $50/month and had to get a plan with Allstate (they had the best deal) for my car which was $330/month full coverage so I paid off my car and now have basic insurance for $220/month. Other than being a better driver, is there anything else I should do? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Feb 2020 04:19 AM PST I just got my car insurance cancelled due to having a low braking score and have confirmed with the provider that there is nothing that can be done about this and it can't be changed. Because of this I need to find a new insurance policy, but obviously now that I have a cancelled policy it is much more expensive. I was just wondering if there were any ways I could bring the price of the policy down or if there are any specialist companies or services I can access to help me find lower prices. I'm based in the UK and have 1 year no claims. Thanks for any help. [link] [comments] |
How are accidents handled with married couples? Posted: 27 Feb 2020 03:18 AM PST My wife and I were recently involved in an accident where both of us sustained injuries. The other driver was placed at fault. My question is, if we were to get a personal injury lawyer, would we get one settlement for the both of us or two separate settlements? I'm just not sure about this whole process. [link] [comments] |
Total Loss. Not at fault. Insurance saying 40% liability? Posted: 26 Feb 2020 04:12 PM PST Hello everyone, I was involved in an accident a couple of months ago. It wasn't my fault, the other driver got the ticket. I opened a claim with the driver's policy (same insurance as mine, Infinity) and I got my report summary back today. It says: - Adjusted Vehicle Value: $6,410 - Vehicular Tax (6.78%): $434.60 - 40% Liability: -$2,737.84 - Total: $4,106.76 A few notes: - My policy only has the minimum required in Florida, so no collision :( - When my insurance asked me (over the phone) where was the car, I told them it was towed away. I had to pay for that when the police called the towing company. However, once the adjuster realized the other person's insurance was the same company, they asked me to go there and move my car to a friend's house or somewhere else, otherwise the tow company would be charging daily for that. Did I have to do that? In any case, I did it, and the total bill was ~$450. - I was injured in the accident (minor stuffs, due to the airbag deployed), but I decided not to go to any doctor/clinic. - I didn't ask for any rental. - Picture of the accident. I'm the green arrow, the other driver is red: https://imgur.com/a/PHGE3Cw My questions are:
Thanks in advance! Edits: Added coverage of my policy. Added more towing information. [link] [comments] |
Should I file a claim with my insurance for an accident, no damage to my car? Posted: 26 Feb 2020 04:49 PM PST I rear ended someone this morning, no damage to my car at all and very little (sub $500) to theirs,no injuries at the scene. Police came but did not do an accident report due to damage being under $1000. Should I/do I need need to report this or file a claim to my insurance? Or just wait and see if she files a claim, all she has is my name and phone. My insurance is geico, and I'm in Massachusetts [link] [comments] |

Posted: 26 Feb 2020 06:08 PM PST I'm currently a student, graduating next fall with my BBA concentration in Finance. Im also a veteran if that helps. I'm interested in the avenues of the insurance world. There are so many avenues I don't know where to start. What would you recommend? What should I do while in school? What are good areas of the insurance world? I should add, I don't want to work a commission job. Thank you for your advice. [link] [comments] |
Hit & Skip. How have you guys found out who hit your car? Posted: 26 Feb 2020 04:59 AM PST The other day I was at work and when I came out there was a huge dent in my rear driver side door. No note or anything left behind. After talking to some people there happened to be a camera in a near by parking lot that I was able to get a copy of. You can see a car back into mine and pull away, a couple hours later that same car pulls into the same driveway and leaves again but you can't make out a plate. I don't think the car lives at the house they pulled into because I've kept an eye out and haven't seen it. There's some other cameras I found on nearby streets that I'm gonna see if I can watch to get a better veiw of the car, possible license plate maybe? It doesn't help it was at night so the lights don't help trying to see the plates. I have a $500 deductible that I'm mostly likely gonna end up paying, I'm just irritated because it wasn't anywhere near my fault but I still gotta pay to get my door replaced. I guess I'm just wondering what other people have done to find the hit& skip person? I feel like I'm so close to finding out who it was but yet so far at the same time lol [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Feb 2020 08:39 PM PST Hoping someone has experience with this recently and can help. I have been with State Farm for car insurance since I was 16, I finally shopped for car insurance this year and found a way better rate. When I went to cancel my policy our agent said we will have one more bill at the end of the month since we pay in arrears. It would be impossible for me to go back and verify this, is this how everyone pays? [link] [comments] |
Parents house is in my name. Can they get their own homeowners, since I technically “own” the home? Posted: 26 Feb 2020 02:38 PM PST My parents live in their own house (no mortgage), but it's in my name (my name is the only one on the deed/ HUD1...). Can they get their own homeowners insurance (they live there full time and I don't) or do I need to get a second homeowners policy and have them get renters? [link] [comments] |
Rental car accident deductibl subrogation / Demand Letter Question Posted: 26 Feb 2020 04:21 PM PST So I was in an rear end accident with my enterprise rental car while my normal car was in for repairs from a prior accident that my insurance (Progressive was paying for). The rental company took my deductible for reference as well. I am not at fault / liable and created the claims for the liable parties insurance (Geico) as well as my own (Progressive). I also called Enterprise to ask for a demand letter, and they said it normally comes up after they fully repair the rental vehicle. My insurance said they would like proof of liability from an email even though Geico says they spoke with him and I each separately over the phone prior stating in each phone call they are claiming fault and full liability for the accident. I called Geico and they said they would try to give me proof of liability through an email when their supervisors came back from a meeting today, but I haven't received anything. My question is how do I go about receiving Geico's (the liable driver's insurance company) deductible subrogation if I haven't been given a definite answer in two weeks via email? Also, what does a demand letter do, and how might I progress the subrogation by pursuing this? [link] [comments] |
Next door neighbor’s RV burned down. Posted: 26 Feb 2020 01:51 PM PST The fire was very intense and since we live next door, all the smoke and flame was going to our house. Luckily, the flames did not reach us, but the black smoke and spot did. There is black stains all over our roof. The fire did not start because of us, and I am trying to see what options I have and how I should come forward to this. Thank you. I have taken many videos and pictures to show as proof as well in case insurance asks us. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 26 Feb 2020 01:12 PM PST Last night, stupidly without thinking, I purchased some flights to Italy from Australia in May. It Definitely would have been smarter for me to wait to see how the coronavirus situation plays out but prices were going up and I'd been thinking about purchasing these tickets for months. I've realised that I haven't purchased travel insurance through the agent I booked through, which retrospectively could be to my advantage, as being a budget agent the advertised insurance policies didn't fully cover flight cancellations. Who have you booked with in the past? And what are insurances should I be looking for in my upcoming flight insurance policy? [link] [comments] |
STD insurance claim for mental health Posted: 26 Feb 2020 12:59 PM PST My GP doctor prescribed a 12 week leave from work due to mental health issues (anxiety/depression). The claim was approved by our group STD company but they were only willing to approve 6 weeks to start and want further medical documentation from a mental health provider. They sent me the documents that need to be filled out and one of the questions is about whether the health issues are CAUSED by my job. The answer is yes and no. I have struggled with situational anxiety and depression for a long time and can mostly manage it. My job is VERY stressful and has triggered anxiety and depression that are effecting my ability to function in day to day life. My question is, if my doctor says it is job related, will the next six weeks of my claim be denied? [link] [comments] |
Auto insurance claim/accident question Posted: 26 Feb 2020 12:40 PM PST So, I had gotten into a car accident with my cousins car (I was at fault, slipped on ice). I was not listed as an additional driver however luckily the insurance company had still settled the claim. My question is, since I had caused the accident it will obviously be under my record/license but will this also be marked on my cousins record when he switches insurances in the future, as in will it appear on his record per say? (FROM NYC) [link] [comments] |

Posted: 26 Feb 2020 05:46 AM PST My husband and I are under contract for our first home. The closing date is this Friday. As part of our negotiations, we asked the sellers to reduce the selling price because the roof is 25 years old and needs to be replaced due to age normal wear and year. Instead, they agreed to pay our closing costs which is about the same as the two quotes we got for a new roof. (I realize this isn't ideal for us, the buyers, but the sellers told us to take this deal or walk away. We are in a sellers' market and we already had to get in a bidding war and offer above listing price in order to get under contract). Yesterday our realtor emailed us and said the sellers' home insurance State Farm scheduled a roof inspection for March 4. I asked her why they would do that if they won't own the house by then. She said she doesn't know but that we should let them inspect the house anyway because maybe they will replace the roof on the seller's behalf. This makes zero sense to me. I'm curious what you all think and whether I should let their insurance send the inspector. For the record, we did not get State Farm insurance, we got a different company. [link] [comments] |
Ring stolen, insurance paid out. Police found at pawn shop. What now? Posted: 26 Feb 2020 03:02 PM PST Back in November, our house was broken into, and among the things stolen was my engagement ring (as well as other jewelry). I filed the insurance claim, they paid out, I had not yet replaced the ring because we've been busy and it was a custom piece. Yesterday, the police called and said they found my ring at a pawn shop and gave me the information. The pawn shop made me pay what they bought the ring for to get it back (~$2k). Police said they were allowed to do this, and if I wanted to recover the money, I could sue in small claims court. How should I proceed with insurance? Will I need to give back all of the money, or the amount less the recovery of my ring? I want to know what my rights are before I call so I'm not made to pay the whole amount, if possible. This is in Arizona, policy is with Travelers. [link] [comments] |
Flooring question after some water damage. Posted: 26 Feb 2020 02:48 PM PST We are getting our first floor replaced as part of a water damage claim. The insurance company allotted $1.20/sq ft for the flooring, because the adjuster put standard flooring. It's actually Armstrong flooring (American Duet something or other) that our flooring guy put 4.15/sq ft. ITEL is putting the flooring at 1.65/sq ft. The similar replacement flooring we chose was 4.30/sq ft, but we're being asked to make up the 5k difference. I don't understand why I am not getting a similar value/type of floor as I currently have, and have no idea who I can talk to to sort this out, because the flooring contractor is telling us to ask the previous owner for receipts from 12 years ago, which is nuts, and insurance is telling us they're only going to talk with the flooring guy. Is this a independent adjuster type thing? We're only talking ~9k to maybe ~14k if it gets moved up, so it isn't really that much if someone is just going to take a chunk out. I'm at the point where I feel like literally no one is on my side, and that sucks. [link] [comments] |
I have a home insurance deductible and contractor repairs payment question. Posted: 26 Feb 2020 01:48 PM PST I had my bathroom repaired after I paid my home insurance deductible for repairs. The insurance company hired a contractor. After the contractor was paid, my bathroom repaired, I had over $3,000 leftover in cash Since I paid my deductible for this home insurance, isn't the rest of the cash amount mine? My contractor seems to think it's his. If it helps, I'm in Washington State. Does he need to give me what's leftover? [link] [comments] |
18 yr old new driver insurance quotes Posted: 26 Feb 2020 01:20 PM PST My son just turned 18, is still in high school, is going to start drivers ed next month, but has no insurance or permit/license yet. If I call my insurance company to try to get some sort of quote, will that then put us under a microscope in the future for his coverage? We aren't sure if when he gets just the permit, if he will need to be rated on our vehicles (which we DO NOT want), or if they just have some sort of coverage they can give to him while he is in drivers ed. I have called local insurance agencies, but due to no license/VIN, they just say it will be anywhere between $200-400 a month for liability. We are trying to get him squared away for the class, as well as give him time to save up for his insurance. My husband is worried if I call our insurance, it will 'tip them off' and then scrutinize our policy more and want to add him. Should I just bite the bullet and call our insurance anyway?
