I made $700 in my 1st month on Twitter!

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 09:52 AM PST

    Hey, fellow entrepreneurs!

I'm David and I made over $700 selling eBooks on Twitter!

My journey started at the end of December 2019 when I opened a new Twitter account and started tweeting.

My niche is business, money and mindset so that's what I stick to. Send 3-10 tweets a day, most of them are original while a few are worded differently from bigger accounts. I followed and engaged with people and I'm currently at 1600 followers with over 300k impressions and 10k visitors of my profile

Through my 1st eBook I started teaching people how to build their own online business as I did that in the past succesfully. My 2nd one was on selling eBooks on Twitter and the system behind that!

All I needed was Google Docs to write my eBooks, Gumroad to upload and Twitter to find the audience! I'm planning on taking it to 4 figures a month!

    Here's the stats https://m.imgur.com/a/am2nLGo

If anyone has any questions, please let me know

    YouTube Entrepreneurship

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 10:58 AM PST

In December 2019 I started a YouTube channel. In the month and a half, 10 videos done, I'm up to around 150 subscribers.

This is rather disheartening when you see channels come out of the blue and get thousands of subs and views in two videos.

My question is, do you class YouTube as entrepreneurship?

I'm not trying to just do a vlog or capture my gaming, I'm actually giving out useful tutorials with the aim of building it into a brand where I can expand into podcast, merch, etc.

Some people will say keep trying, you need a hundred videos to be successful, then others say you only need one or two great viral videos...but it all seems so much more down to luck than a traditional job where the more effort you put in, the more success you have.

You need to gain peer status first to get a legit mentor

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 09:23 AM PST

A lot of you think there's some secret method to finding a mentor who will help you become rich. It's not a secret and I'm going to explain the right way and wrong way to find a mentor.

    Wrong way:

"Hey Joe, I'm really impressed that you have a carpet cleaning business with 5 locations in our state. I'm been wanting to start my own carpet cleaning business for months, would you be kind enough to mentor me?"....

Fail. Fail Fail. With that kind of approach, the only kind of people who will mentor you are the ones who want to make a buck off of you. Be prepared to pay $200 hr.+ if you can even find someone with that approach.

    Right Way:

"Hey Joe, I'm really impressed that you have a carpet cleaning business with 5 locations in our state. I bought used carpet cleaning equipment off of Craigslist 3 weeks ago and after contacting 50 landlords in our area, I got 7 jobs, 2 of them, monthly reoccurring. I'd love pick your brain to find out how you scaled to 5 locations. Would you mind meeting for coffee sometime?"

Din. Ding. Ding. Peer status achieved. Joe doesn't care that your whole business is based on used equipment from Craigslist. He see's someone in the same spot as him, struggling to get customers, just like he did a few years ago. Your only out of pocket cost will be offering to cover his coffee.

How can I sell a 131k Instagram account?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 12:44 PM PST

The account is a meme page that posts popular memes. Started it mid 2018 and all growth has been organic and all followers are real. Started doing ads on it about 2/3months ago as I'd been reluctant to do them before but then started other pages so became easier to find people who wanted to run ads.

Reason to Sell: Been making some good money with it but I have some other pages that I prefer to run so I'm looking to cash in on this one and continue with my others.

Insights: Growth and impressions is always up and down. At its best, few thousands a week and about 7 mil impressions a week. Currently not doing great as was shadowbanned so only 1 mil impressions and little growth.

Price: I'm looking to get at least $5k for it as any less and I might as well continue to run ads on it.

Dm for the @ and other questions you might have. Can of course Dm from there as proof I own it etc

I made an app in 1 day

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 06:12 AM PST

I have left dozens of projects abandoned, as I struggle to finish them. Last week I decided that I would launch something no matter how small it is, so I coded an app and I submitted it to the play store.

Today it got published. It's a very small app that tells how many people is infected with the coronavirus and a map of the areas in danger.

I only made it available for the spanish market, but here is a pic: https://imgur.com/a/9Yrubhk

And the play store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.coronavirus.app&gl=ES

I made this as an experiment and I will post the results of my ad campaign and profits.

    Can we talk?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 01:37 PM PST

    If we are:

"A community of individuals who seek to solve problems, network professionally, collaborate on projects and make the world a better place. Be professional, humble, and open to new ideas."

Unless otherwise attacked or threatened there is no need to negatively comment. This is my personal account and someone had the audacity to go and dig on some history I've made a few years back. And then came back to comment on here.

My request is if I give positive energy I ask the same in return. Let's all try to work towards being positive. Commenting on my posts is not a requirement. Neither is upvote. All I ask is to be respectful.

    Marketing package. Good idea?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 02:10 PM PST

So, I have extensive filmmaking and photography experience. Especially corporate.

Where I'm living right now though I don't have the connections for regular camera jobs. So I've been learning Javascript, css, and html. I've been reading up on sales and trying to see if I can make any money copywriting and then it hit me.

What if I combined all these things into a "marketing package" for clients. I'd build them a website, write the content on it, do their videos and photos. I could hire people who do logos, advertising, design, social media, seo, and consulting? All that kinda stuff.

Is this something that already exists? What are the pitfalls in this idea? Would companies prefer something more collaborative?

A large retailer wants to sell my products and I need advice

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 01:48 PM PST

I could use some direction as I don't know where to start. I own a women's sportswear brand in the US and received an email yesterday from a retail chain store manager overseas who wants to sell my line in their store. The company has thousands of stores around the world but he wants to sell my line in his store specifically. I was thinking I could use this opportunity as a test run and if it works out strike a deal to get my products in other stores around the world.

The problem is I don't really know where to start. The store managers asked me what my incoterms were and my manufacturer is based in China. I have a pretty limited inventory at the moment, so if they order I would need to order from my factory which would be a 35 day turnaround.

Questions I have: What type of discounts and margins would they expect? What incoterms? Do they generally pay for shipping? What payment terms do they look for? How would I expect to get paid internationally - Wire transfer, credit card, etc? Do they provide the product displays? Do I work with a factoring company if multiple stores want to buy? What's the best way to go about a test run? I'm sorry for all the questions. I need guidance on how to go about this professionally and not fuck it up.

Tl;Dr: Overseas Store manager of big retail chain wants to sell my line in his single store. I don't know where to start. Please help.

I run a web agency outside of Detroit, Michigan. Two weeks ago we had a contact form submission through our website requesting web development services. We reached out to the person and told them we need to gather a few more details on the project and would love to set up a time to talk on the phone. They responded with the email below detailing their company, but there are some red flags. What are your thoughts? I removed some of the links provided in the email as they are not relevant.

Below is a link to an example of what i want you to build for me:
**LINKED DOMAIN, IRRELEVENT**(The sample website is the website of a Carpet/Rug company is Los Angeles,CA.).I want you to check that website first and let me know if you can build something similar to that within 1 month.

1.I will be providing the logos, images, contents, video and every other things included.

5.You are free to showcase and choose your design that you think it's best for the website.
6.I want the domain name to be either **SEVERAL DOMAIN NAME OPTIONS** (I gave you all this because some domain names may not be available so you can have varies of domain names to choose from on godaddy.

Let me know the total cost for the job with domain and hosting included. My budget is $6000 but i can definitely pay more than that.(If your price is way more than that give me an explanation or let me know and i can increase the budget to your total cost).

Where do you live and do you accept check payment?

How to determine share of ownership between two partners?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 11:09 AM PST

    Hey all,

I'm on the verge of going into business with a young chef, who has a few years of experience under his belt and a few of my friends confirmed his cooking skills is excellent. However he does not want to go and work for restaurants because of the low pay and more importantly the stress levels.

Anyway, he has no money, I'm willing to rent a small shop and build a kitchen there and we will run a bi-daily food service. I will be running the company and making the major decisions, he will be making food decisions and the cooking.

Since I am taking the financial risk I think I should be the majority owner of the company. But I don't know how much. If I had a lot of money I'd offer to make him an employee and own 100% but I don't have that kind of cash right now. And I have to think the company will not make any money for at least 6-9 months.

So I'm looking for some input, what would be a fair share of two partners in a situation like this?

WooCommerce sites: experiences with Liquidweb, WPEngine, other managed WP/Woo environments?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 11:07 AM PST

Looking for any thoughts on this for medium to high traffic sites (20k+ visitors, 50-100 transactions per day, etc.)

We've been on Liquidweb for a couple years and are not too happy. WP is interesting but way more expensive for their custom plans.

Please poke holes in this idea.

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 12:17 AM PST

Quick like a band-aid. Is this worth pursuing?

I live in a southeastern US town of about 14 thousand people. The county itself is mostly rural and totals a population of about 64k. The closest place for recreation beyond a community walking track is at least an hour away. And for the surrounding counties still without actual cell service it's at least 2 hours. We're that town that's an hour away from metropolis. We have a legit hospital but no Starbucks yet. That town with the mall that's either already extinct or will be tomorrow.

Take the fucking mall, maybe where Kmart used to be, turn it into a jump park/discovery zone/indoor gokarts/something. The sheer number of children, teens, adults, and square miles involved make me sit here and scratch my chin. Problem is, I have absolutely no idea where to put this idea into motion. I'm a 31 year old paramedic, married, trying to start a family, and trying to uproot my career to something that pays better and at least gives us health coverage. I have zero business experience and my credit is sub par. In terms of a business model..... I'll put the energy into if I think it's realistically doable. But basically, in theory, I'm talking about a business, an indoor recreational complex that has no competition. A business that services not only local communities but almost an entire region of a state. It would be a massive undertaking in figuring costs of startup, contractors to engineer the facilities, the licenses, regulations, insurance, what the mall owner thinks ofcourse...

I do have confidence that local wealthy business owners would invest. Tbh, its kind of surprising something similar hasn't already happened and I believe it to be only a matter of time. So yeah, don't spare my feelings. At face value, am I chasing whimsies or should I actually explore this further?

    Instagram bot recommendations

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 07:53 AM PST

It seems the new bots actually use IG on your phone. I can leave my IG open and watch all of the activity they are doing.

I have tried Instavast and IG Assistant. Instavast didn't work at all. IG assistant works ok, but even with comments turned off it will comment on posts, which I really don't want. And neither one really has customer service.

Anyone use one that works well?

Are there any honest marketers/companies left?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 06:47 AM PST

I was doing my regular thing on product hunt and looked at some of the products listed over the past few weeks. Something clicked in my head and made me write out this rant:

First off, let me preface my post by mentioning that I can understand that marketing involves a bit of sugarcoating and pristine packaging.

I can (kinda) understand the fake it till you make it thing. But once you start getting customers and getting traction, why do marketers/companies still lie?

But where's the fine line between bullshit and exaggerating some claims?

I've got a few examples I'd like to bring to the table that we'd always spot at /r/entrepreneur Testimonials on websites are in most cases either fake or from industry buddies (nothing new here, right?). Even when the business isn't just getting started anymore.

Marketers are going crazy about things like social proof notifications types. I did a bit of digging and that shit's fake too. Here's one example of some biz that fakes your social proof for you (this took me like 5 mins of digging, click at your own peril).

Doing a little more digging I found an entire blog post about this very problem.

I was in conversation with a friend of mine who wanted to buy something from Amazon the other day. I told him to be careful cause lots of those positive reviews are fake, especially since FBA is super popular now. Again, I did a bit of digging. What did I find? Yep. You can buy reviews in the dozens for shit like Trustpilot, TripAdvisor, Amazon, and probably any other site.

This issue even extends to review articles all over Google. It's so damn hard to find an unaffiliated, unbiased, 100% legit review article anymore. They're all written by clever affiliates who know how to add some small "disadvantages" to any product so that the review looks legit (but still subtly suggests that the product is worth the money). Again, here's an example of a website entirely dedicated to shitting on competitors.

Other examples… Limited-time deals are fake along with fake counters. Anything urgency based is fake. Every SaaS and their grandma is now "AI based". The majority of them aren't (I can tell you that on good authority working in the VC space). They just figured out that people are going crazy after anything that has AI in it and they want to ride the wave.

I guess that ends my rant. As a long time lurker I thought I'd post for once. Heed my advice - being honest with your customers and website visitors pays dividends.

    Stay honest folks

My First "Business" When I Was 8 Years Old

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 02:47 AM PST

I was thinking about about all the jobs I've done, all the businesses I've run and all the side projects I've had. Some have been very successful and some have been a disaster.

While thinking about these I started to wonder where it all started and I remembered the time when I was 8 years old and had my first business idea.

I was brought up in a small village in the UK that had a river running through it and also lots of woodland around it that us kids liked to explore. During the spring some sections of the woodland had tons of flowers growing. These were mainly crocuses and bluebells.

So my business idea was to dig them up and sell them door to door. So along with a friend that's what I did. Many people bought them from us, but I think it was more to help out some children than actually wanting the flowers. Some people just said no, while others asked if our parents knew what we doing. Of course they did we replied. Well, of course they didn't know but they soon found out. My parents didn't seem to know what to think. I shouldn't have been selling flowers without their permission, but on the other hand I had made some money. So it was a case of ask us next time.

It was just a one-day business, as after that we had enough money to buy sweets at the local shop.

What was your first business as a child or adult?

Finding likeminded people - why is this so hard?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 02:21 AM PST

No matter what me and my friends talk about regarding setting up a business or trying to make money, we get something up and running and then they come out with excuses as to why they don't want to purse the venture more.

Whether it's a gardening business or whatever.

We talk, buy equipment, get a load of leaflets done, and when nothing comes within a few days, they decide to call it a day.

I mean, what the fuck? What happened to a bit of perseverance?

How can I go about finding likeminded people? Or am I doomed to being a one-man band?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
