My (18M) parents (66M, 51F) are in prison and out of the country, not sure what to do

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 02:29 AM PST

It started when we were evicted from our old apartment, we couldn't quite pay for rent, so we had to leave and my dad managed to get £400 a month for a couple months for our new place.

He flew my mum out back to her home country and both of us were in this new studio apartment. While I was out of the house, my dad was arrested for the last apartment's debt and needs £5000 for bail.

I can't get a job due to a visa situation and I'm worried about losing the apartment and all our things if I'm unable to get £400 together, let alone £5000 for my dad's bail.

I'm unsure of what my next step should be. I've thought about finding some work but I don't want to get arrested for legality issues that my dad was getting sorted for me.

I would really appreciate any help. I've written the costs in pounds but I'm in the UAE.

Free company vacation leads to everyone being fired.

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 11:24 AM PST

Ive been working for a small tech company In Dallas TX that has around 10 senior employees for the past 4 years.

We have been going through some budget cuts as well as removing the company policy for new hires to "double 401k contributions" meaning if I put 10$ in my 401k my employer puts in $20, leaving me with a $30 401k contribution.

The company is now removing this policy but as our contract reads the 10 of us are pretty much grandfathered in to this clause amidst stealing company property or being drunk / high on the job. So if I stole something from the company my employer has an out to terminate the contract.

    ****************Story****************

Our boss recently took the 10 of us to Colorado for a week to ski on a company trip as a thank you. It is not unusual for him to thank us in these "big" ways. (In the past he has given bonuses, gift cards, ipads)

While we were in Colorado our boss brought us some "Special brownies" and we all decided to eat/ try them as we are all close and pretty much all friends and its legal in Colorado. One girl did not for personal reasons.

We had an amazing time in Colorado and enjoying the activities for the week. But that all changed when we got back to Dallas the following Monday.

When we opened up all 10 of us were met with a random drug test which was odd because our Boss just last week indulged with us in eating Marijuana brownies.

Well come to find out 9 of us have all had our 401k contracts terminated per the stealing/drug/drunk clause. The only person who still has theres is the girl who did not eat the brownies.

My question is: is this even legal, do I have any course of action against what it feels like is "entrapment"

TLDR; We went on a company vacation, our boss bought us marijuana cookies and is now using us failing Mondays drug test to revoke our 401k contract

Edit: Should have titled it "Free company vacation leads to everyone losing benefits"

Employer made me finish a task before I was allowed to leave after having two seizures.

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 05:53 AM PST

I need some advice obviously. I live in New Mexico and have Epilepsy. My employer is well aware of this fact as I have filed medical paperwork with them as well as our corporate HR so there was no guessing about my condition.

Yesterday, I had two seizures. The first one was minor and happened on lunch outside of the workplace. I didn't have a long recovery time, so I went back to work, no problem. However, on some rare occasions, I will get a second or even third seizure after my first. Yesterday was on of those days.

So I come back to work, start working but I'm still fatigued from the first seizure so I'm a little more sluggish than usual. I start walking around and helping customers when I realized I needed to run to the bathroom. I throw up, and see blood which is pretty normal when I'm having to fight off seizures for a day. That usually tells me that another one is coming on so I start getting ready for it to hit. I come to the break room and sit for a minute (I hadn't used my second break for the day, so this was not against policy or anything).

So I have the second seizure and my girlfriend who works with me, comes in to the break room to check up on me. The second seizure is way worse than the first, basically making me useless for the rest of the day. So she reports it to our store manager and asks if she can take me home and come back to finish her shift or just stay home since her shift was over in 15 minutes anyways. He informs her that I'm not to leave until some pictures for our personal board are printed, a job duty that is supposed to be managements, but I took on to help alleviate some of their duties.

Do I need to just embrace this or do I have any legal recourse?

Served Grandma with a PPO. What are the next steps?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 08:31 AM PST

After years of emotional abuse, threats to take our children, boundary stomping, ignoring well drawn out safety rules regarding our kids and a stunt this past week with our kids so beyond rational human thought, my husband and I went to 3rd District court in Michigan and had his mom served with a ex-parte PPO. We're done. Gloves off.

It's now been a week and were wondering what next. We contacted a family lawyer who told us that she has 21 days to fight the PPO. The lawyer stated that since she's a public school employee that she will FOR SURE fight it as a PPO goes on your perment record and you can get fired for it. He told me for a "small retainer" that he could help us fight this.

My husband said he doesn't understand what there's to fight. His mom was told to stay away from the children multiple times (via emails, in person, and text) but instead took it upon herself to track down the kids at their new school (she wasn't told about)and gain access to our minor children at their school during dismissal. Police were contacted for an attempted abduction and an investigation is ongoing.

My husband says he doesn't want to blow our small emergency fund when this case is cut and dry.

The lawyer says that the court notices have a history of "getting lost" and that it's a good idea to have a lawyer. He said that if we don't get a notice to go to court but Granny shows up, the PPO is dropped.

This seems like a lot of what ifs but I'm a stay at home mom with no knowledge of the law. All we want is for her to leave us alone. Period. Stop showing up to husbands work asking to see the kids, stop showing up to our home banging on the door "I have rightss" and don't come to our kids school to see them. Our state doesn't recognize Grandparents Rights either so I have no idea what her plans are.

I don't know if she will fight the PPO but everyone from the lawyers to my husband are convinced she will.

What should I be doing? Should we get a lawyer just in case? Wait to see if we get served or something else?

Computer repair shop disassembled and sold parts from my computer!

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 09:42 AM PST

Our computer was not turning on at all. We tried a few things, replaced battery, purchased and installed a new power supply, but nothing. We took it to a repair shop at the end of November to have it diagnosed. About a week later we get a call back with the problem, melted cpu, and were told that the motherboard needs replacing but the can't do it as they cannot get the part. We told them that we would pick ot up as soon as we can but, being the holiday season, we weren't sure when that would be. There was an attempt to pick it up between Christmas and New Years but they were closed even though it was normal business hours. After several weeks, and numerous attempts to call and visit, we finally managed to get to the store while it was open. The employee working told us that our computer, along with the brand new power supply, had been dismantled and sold for parts. We got back an empty case. During the entire time they had our computer, they hadn't made a single attempt to contact us, even though we had attempted to contact them. I was wondering what my options are? Is it worth taking to small claims court? Any advice would be appreciate.

My Landlord drove into my room.

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 06:54 AM PST

Hi all, My Landlord drove into my room and I came back from work to find all the windows and wall smashed in. A lot of my stuff has been sent flying across the other side some scratched up other items completely dismantled. I don't have contents insurance as a renter but I would assume as it was done by the landlord as well as with her car it might be covered by two insurance policies.

I would assume that I need to be specific on items that are damaged to get them replaced like for like but where do I stand on custom equipment? I have a custom watercooled PC which I built myself, however the components aren't available as new. Would they be replaced for a similar price that I bought them for or would they retrieve second hand parts and just give me them to build? Additionally if that is the case would they pay me for my time or get a custom build company to do it?

My bf's mother spent all of the money he was supposed to get(Plz help)

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 09:47 AM PST

So a year ago today, my boyfriend lost his father from brain cancer. (RIP he was a great man)

Well my boyfriend was supposed to get money due to his father passing away. It was supposed to be over $9k, almost $10K, and he was supposed to get it in 2019 and never received it.

At some point, his mother received (what she told us anyways), over $4k, but she couldn't keep it all or the government would revoke her government paid stuff (Food stamps for example). She had said something about it being the father's social security, and when I asked my bf about this, he said it wasn't the money he was waiting for since it wasn't the right amount. Well, the other day, he received a paper that pretty much said "You received a check for $9K and change, and you need to file it in your taxes." Well, as I said, my boyfriend never got it.

I told my mom and stepdad, and we all had a talk. My bf decided to message his mom about it, and she started off with dodging the question. She eventually admitted that yes, she did get ALL of it, not just the 4k she told us about.

-My bf was 17 when he was supposed to receive the money, and his parents were never married.

-If we do not file this on his taxes this year, the government will most likely pull his tax returns for next several years.

    -There was no will

-What can we do? (She has since spent most, if not all the money.)

-We live in the US in New Hampshire.

We need help, and my bf is stressing over this, because he is trying to get into [school], that has an age limit. Please, please, if you need any other details please ask. We really need help.

Payroll check bounced and now I have no Job?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 07:46 AM PST

Prefacing this that I live in Montana and I apologize if I format this wrong, this is my first post here.

I feel like I need to add some context and be as detailed as possible to hopefully get the best advice that I can. I thought I had a pretty good job; decent wages and a relatively laid back boss (also the owner of the store I worked at). There were some things that I had concerns about (working alone on my shift in a busy mall, law required breaks, and a few other (not as big) concerns).

I bring it up last Saturday, the busiest day of the week by far, basically saying "Hey, I've been on my feet for five and a half hours without so much as a moment to catch my breath from walking in the door, can I have a few minutes?" and I thought I could openly talk to my boss' wife (basically the manager of his business) about these issues I've been having. She says "No problem, we'll make sure you can get a break," and heads over to their second store literally right next door, figuring that someone might come relieve me for a few minutes.

The owner then comes over about ten minutes later or so, being really aggressive and hostile towards me, saying that I'm ungrateful for the job and almost feeling like he was trying to pick a fight with me, because I was certainly getting heated myself. I tell him I'm uncomfortable and that I need to step out for a moment so that things don't escalate.

I call his wife after I cooled off some so I could try and figure out what the heck happened. I talk to her for a bit and long story short, she says that we'll get things figured out, not to worry, we can all talk it out tomorrow (last Sunday), and that I can just stay home for the rest of the day and can start my weekend a little early.

I go in on Sunday, the owner basically avoids me, but I talk to his wife, expressing my concerns and offering feedback and asking for feedback myself. All in all I thought things went well talking to her, and was told that we'd get it figured out and that I had nothing to worry about.

Monday rolls around and my wife is out and tries to get some fast food for her and our kiddo but her card declines. She calls me, I check our account, and I see that the amount my paycheck was from on Friday was pulled out of the account. She goes down and our bank tells us that my paycheck bounced. So I call my boss to figure out what's going on, and he is being very evasive towards my questions, but says that he'll make sure it's taken care of and I have nothing to worry about. I leave it at that because I figure there's nothing I can do about it.

Tuesday comes and I come into work, and the owner and his wife act like they are confused why I am there. I tell them that I am showing for work (figured that was obvious), but they said they thought I quit. Now it's my turn to be confused, they said that I walked out of work on Saturday and they figured that I didn't want the job anymore. I tell them that that doesn't make any sense, for why would I come in to talk about things on Sunday to iron things out, to which the owner just tells me that, in his words, that he's "just moved on" and doesn't want me there. No write-ups, no warnings, no protocol, nothing. I didn't express, at any time, that I wanted to quit.

So now here I am with a bounced paycheck four days later and a negative bank account from it, no job, and no answers from my boss or his wife. What should I do? What could I do?

So I went on a walk today and diacovered a company dumping nasty water into the waterstream...

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 04:40 PM PST

I'm from Michigan, I was walking on some trails today, along the path there is a fenced off private property. The property has pipes fed under the fence and public trail, dumping into a pond which is right next to the river. There is some nasty orange shit that comes out of all the pipes, looks like oil as well. Who/where can I go to report this and have this checked out. My fears are that it will be swept under the rug like most environmental issues.

How to get custody of my 14yr old sister?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 11:11 AM PST

Im trying to figure out how to become my sisters legal guardian but having some trouble with it. I'm 23, my sister is 14. Our father passed away(young & suddenly, left no will) last year, and our mother lives out of the country. My older brother 26 was looking after our sister until November and since then she's been staying with me and my boyfriend. Everyone(including mother) is on board with her living with us, my sister also does not want to leave the US to go live with our mother in a different country. I guess I don't really now how to go about this. My parents were still married but separated. I don't know if I could just ask our mother to sign over guardian ship of my sister to me, since she's not a US citizen. We live in Northern California. My sister will be fifteen in July, so she'll only have 3years to go till she's 18. However she really wants to visit our mother and this requires her to fly out of the country. I tried to plan it out for her during her winter break last month, no airline would even let me purchase the ticket because I wasn't her legal guardian. Which I get, better safe than sorry. But because of issues like this is that I rather just become her legal guardian even if it might be costly and a lengthy process. I don't want her to have to wait till she's 18 to see her mother again. Any advice would help I'm completely lost.

    Dog Owner's Negligence

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 01:56 PM PST

Hello on January 11th my neighbors dog jumped the fence into my backyard and ultimately killed my dog. My father in law had to beat the dog off of him. I took him to the vet and they said it would cost 2k for surgery but had a very slim chance of survival so we had to put him down. I contacted the police got a police report and they said animal control was supposed to come but never did. I have a 18 month old and if he had been back there it would have been a different story. I'm very depressed about this situation and feel like I have no justice for Goku. Can I do something about this? My dog has always been up to date on shots and even survived parvo which costs a lot of money. I live in Texas.

Frustrated with child support court. How can I get them to raise payments and actually get my ex to pay child support? He started a business and then moved out of country.

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 01:23 PM PST

When I first filed for child support, my sons father didn't work and was just starting college so they put him on $135 a month. I let it go on until he graduated, I didn't want to make it harder on him while in college. I let him get away with that and he let me claim our son as a dependent every year(It was supposed to be swapped every other year). I thought that was a fair trade off.

Well, 3 years ago he graduated college and started a business. It became quite successful so I decided I would try to go after more support to help us out but that turned out to be a lot harder than it seemed.

First issue: He did actually show up on the first court date and showed his income BUT he was only reporting minimum wage? How was he paying himself minimum wage but driving a brand new car? It made no sense but they bought it and only raised it to $250 a month. I didn't have a lawyer though and know nothing about finances or business ownership.

Second issue: I got a lawyer the second time(last year) and he scurried away to another country. I'm 99.9% sure he moved to India. He deleted all social media and changed his number. I cant find him personally but rumors lead me to come to this conclusion. He's been skipping court dates and all they do is re-schedule and issue a warrant for his arrest BUT only in our county. If he's even in a different state, he won't get arrested.

What is going on and why is this so hard? Any advice?

The court date re-schedules are effecting my work-life. It's at 8AM and I sit around for 4~ hours to wait for them to call us, just to re-schedule. If neither party shows up, they dismiss the filing and I have to wait another 365 days. The re-schedules are every 3~ months.

My lawyer is costing me, the court is costing me in missed work days but they can't do anything without his income.

Think dealership sold me a stolen truck

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 07:32 PM PST

    LOCATED IN LOUISIANA

On Nov 29th I bought a 2018 Escalade from a dealership. At the time, we noticed that something was wrong with ONSTAR, it was like the module wasnt plugged in. Salesman tells us to bring it back on Monday and service will take care of it. Dec 2 we drop it off and they call me and tell me that they can not service it because GM says that it is not a valid vin #. It will take 5-7 to clear up. So I pick up truck and a week later I find out from a friend who works at the dealership that the guy who sold the dealership the Escalade I bought came back in with his friend and tried to sell them another one and the same thing happened. When they put it in the system, its clear but when they put it into the warranty computer it says no VIN found. Vin on dash and sticker in door match. After completely losing my cool, the vice president of the dealership tells me that he is sending salesman with a loaner vehicle until we figure out whats going on. After being in the loaner for a couple of weeks, I lose my cool again. Now I am paying a truck note on a truck I am not driving and GM is not returning phone calls. Dealership says they are trying to find another vehicle comparable to the one I purchased and they will just switch loan over to that one

It is now Jan 29th and GM supposedly has not been in contact with the dealership, nor have they returned over 60 phone calls from me. DO I HAVE ANY LEGAL RIGHTS HERE!?!?!?!?!

I (24M) am getting screwed over by my superiors

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 08:32 AM PST

I have been with a fairly large company going on two years and they have this wonderful reimbursement program to pay for your masters degree if it pertains to your position and advancing your career.

A little back story, the company went through a re-org and fired over 200 employees. I was fortunate enough to be hired back on, but in a different role. I wasn't as happy in this new role, but I have always completed any task they throw at me, above and beyond. In this re-org, I was given a new manager, someone who had no prior managing experience. He is mentored by someone out of state, who occasionally flies in to conduct meetings with our team.

I started my MBA program because it was such a good opportunity and would keep me connected with the company. While I don't necessarily like my position, I want to stay with the company in the long run and have been applying to internal positions for a while.

I got through my first semester of my MBA (with all A's *small cheer*) and continued to outperform my colleagues with our day to day activities (not being arrogant, just data). While all of this was going on, my managers' mentor has come back to town a few times. I am under the impression that this particular gentleman isn't my number one fan. He held a meeting with me and my manager to tell me that I was being a disrespectful employee because I wasn't "bought in". He mentioned that I don't have as much of a happy go lucky attitude as I should, and I should be lucky they are even paying for my tuition. While I'm not completely happy here, I do everything I'm told. I don't argue with the things that are going on, and I come in, keep my head down, and complete my work, to which they told me is not enough.

After that meeting, I swallowed my pride and apologized. I sent an email to both him and my direct manager saying that my attitude would change. I came in every day with a huge smile on my face, greeting everyone. I put myself into overdrive.

My manager holds biweekly meetings with me to check in on things. I started recording these meetings on my cell just to have everything that is said documented. In each meeting after my apology, he has said how much of an improvement he sees, and how hard i'm working.

Fast forward to my second semester of tuition. I checked with my manager to make sure I was good to go, he told me congrats on my last semester, that I should submit my forms for this one to start the approval process.
When I followed up, he said that our company's HR was having budgetary issues, that it may not be able to be reimbursed. I continued to follow up, as I put thousands of dollars on a personal credit card thinking I would be reimbursed. In our last one on one meeting, he tells me that due to my attitude, and literally quote "everything" they decided not to pay for this semester. I asked repeatedly for him to give me examples as to what I had not improved, he just kept saying very general comments, not telling me anything specific I could improve upon. In NO meeting prior to this did he ever say my performance would hinder my chances of getting tuition improved. Told me I was good to go to submit my paperwork, and to "keep up the good work".

I sent an email to him and his mentor to ask for more clarification as to what I had been doing that was warranting this presumed punishment, for lack of a better word. It's been 48 hours with no response, but I can tell something's brewing. I just am so stuck and confused as what to do. It seems obvious that they are trying to push me out, but with this corporate policy of tuition reimbursement, I'm not sure what rights I have. I have been told that having these recordings is illegal (I live in GA and have researched that it is not) and against company policy...that I'm not sure of.

TL;DR my boss denied my tuition reimbursement for my MBA second semester saying that it was due to my attitude, no specifics, with never telling me that anything I was doing would affect the chances of that and I have recordings of him telling me to go ahead and submit my paperwork for next semester.

EDIT: I guess my biggest question remains: if it were always my performance in question, then WHY was I told all was good, and to pay for it with my own money, start the process of reimbursement and was only told that it wouldn't happen when it was too late for me to figure out whether to continue/take out a loan/figure SOMETHING else out other than put thousands of dollars on a card because I thought I'd get reimbursed.

(OH) HUD housing screwed everyone over and is now demanding backpay

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 09:41 AM PST

I live in HUD housing, in North Ohio. A few years back they hired a woman named Mary who managed the apartment complex. When my daughter started receiving SSI payments, I tried to report the income to Mary and she claimed that since the amount was under 1k, that it didn't need to be reported.

A few months ago, Mary was escorted off the premises and (rumored to be) fired. I have since had the new manager report that it was true, as she would reportedly take people's rent, out off filing income, and even steal people's dogs from them.

The issue arises, however, that now most of the apartment complex owes a substantial amount in backpay because she (Mary) didn't feel like doing paperwork and told a bunch of people that they didn't need to report. I, myself, owe 1200, of which I'll have to use my kid's backpay, which is something they're not legally allowed to touch, but now they're taking almost all of it.

So my question is, should I report this somehow? A lot of people are getting ready to move out because of this woman's actions, and the complex seems to care less than 0% that a lot will be homeless, with a smear against our renting report for backpay owed because people can't afford to drop thousands on backpay.

Roommate who I co-lease an apartment brought home a dog without consulting me or our other 2 roommates. Now claiming it’s an emotional support animal

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 05:37 AM PST

As the title reads. We share an apartment lease split 4 ways. All of our names on the lease. One day our roommate just came home with a dog. Didn't consult any of us. Building policy is that all pets must be registered and signed off on by all lease members. She didn't do this. We reported her for having an unauthorized dog to the building after 3 months, and she claimed it was an emotional support animal after the fact. The clinical note she got for the dog was attained after it was already living with us.

Is there anything we can do? All lease members other than her do not want the dog living there. The building is a large apartment complex so FHA does apply.

(VT) Roofer caused major water damage to my house, didn't fix it, then was crushed to death.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 05:37 PM PST

I believe I had a decent case for breach of contract, gross negligence, and fraud. Now that he's dead, what are my options for pursuing damages? My husband thinks that suing a dead person is just taking money away from his children.

The job was $10k and he was paid $7.5k and had 1.5 days of work left. He left the a quarter of the roof completely exposed to a huge rainstorm. I have major water damage to my interior, need to replace a lot of sheathing, and have to reinstall cellulose insulation, plus several tons of shingles in my yard that were not removed despite being in the contract. After the incident, the contractor didn't like that I was mad and telling him he needed to come to see the damage and actually do everything I paid him for. He refused to come back to the site "until there's a change in your attitude."

I had to pay someone $2k to undo a third of his work and get into the attic to remove insulation and then tarp the roof for the winter. I'm also stuck with about $1k in waste removal fees. The estimates I'm getting for fixing the damage and redoing the shoddy work are coming in at $18-25k. I received $1.7k from my insurance for interior finishes damage and am still working with his insurance to see what I can get from them.

I was told by lawyers that the chances of me getting any money back were very slim, they both told me not to hire them. I was planning to take him to small claims court, even though I know the payout is the most difficult part. Now that he's dead, I'm not sure what my options are.

I think my dad tried to commit insurance fraud in my name

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 12:48 PM PST

Basic background: I have lived in Kentucky for 5 or so years now, and used to live in Ohio. This occurred in Ohio on December 5th 2019, when I was definitely not there.

    My mother got a call today saying that I owed 240$ on an unpaid medical bill at a company in Ohio for a visit. This set off flags for multiple reasons;
I am in Kentucky, on Kentucky Medicaid.
They used her number and not mine and her number was listed as my adoptive father's, who she's been divorced from for 3-4 years now.
The address used was in Ohio, and is a home that is owned by my aunt and uncle.
The person who used my name didn't have any proof of the person who claimed to be mes identity, besides my name and birthday (so they didn't have my ID, SSN, ect.).
They used my dad's name, birthday, and social security number as guaranteer of my identity.
I have not seen my father for over a year now as we live in different states.
I'm pregnant and don't use providers outside of the network of the hospital that will be delivering me in April.

I know for a fact that I didn't use this service, and I don't think it'll be hard to prove that the person who used my name wasn't me unless she's also 20 years old and was 4.5-5 months pregnant at the time. I'm somewhat worried because it definitely sounds like my father used my information to do this, and he and his girlfriend are both ex cons and used to be drug addicts. I'm afraid they may have used my name and information to try and get narcotics from a hospital, and while I love my dad, this is obviously NOT okay.

I've already called the people who called my mother, who said she was "disgruntled" (who wouldn't be, when your ex husband uses your number as his own when you have no contact with him) and asked for my information. I had to clarify multiple times that much of the information about me was incorrect (number, address, ect) and that I never used their services. They sent the collection into dispute and said they'd call me in 30-40 days with the result of the dispute.I don't even have a phone number for my father, and have reached out through Facebook to tell him we need to talk ASAP. I don't have his address and last I heard he was in Dayton OH, though I'm not sure where the fraud occurred. Are there any more steps I can take? Is there a way to tell hospitals and doctors offices that they should not accept patients claiming to be me with my father?
This is too much stress and I honestly can't believe he'd put me through this knowing the situation I'm already in. Thank you for any help.

Small update: I filed a medical identity theft claim with FTC and managed to get a hold of my dad, who sounded genuinely shocked. He says he's been in Dayton Ohio still for the whole time that this was happening (all the facilities in this company are in southern Ohio), and had no idea. He's now freaking out that someone has his SSN and is going to also be reporting to FTC for identity theft and he's going to freeze his credit. At this point, I honestly believe him, but I reported to the FTC what I know - that they used my fathers information - so it's likely they'll vet him as a suspect.

My (18F) mom inactivated my anti-depressant prescription behind my back

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 01:42 PM PST

Hi everyone. I am in college at a school in Ohio and live in North Carolina otherwise. I was prescribed an anti depressant as I've been struggling with diagnosed depression and anxiety for four years and my mom refused to allow me medication. She knew I started seeing a school therapist here and was prescribed this as well as anti-anxiety medications.

The problem is she took the same depression medications I am taking to quit smoking. She said she hated them and they made her feel crazy. She told me to get off of mine (because she is illogical and crazy when it comes to medication and doctors) and I said I would eventually.

I went to my pharmacy to today at school and they were unable to transfer the anti depressant back here as my mom had inactivated it. I had one refill left and now have no medication until I can see my doctor here in a week. I am under her health insurance. Is this legal? Is there any action I can take? I am going through a particularly hard time and this is making it a lot more difficult.

EDIT: I talked to my pharmacy back home and they basically said sorry we can't do anything. I talked to my doctor here and she said it was basically barred from being filled under my insurance. I had it in Ohio, transferred to North Carolina, and now cannot get it back to Ohio. I am paying out of pocket now and getting it tomorrow morning.

(ID) Paralyzed in an assisted living facility, about to be evicted over <$350

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 02:20 PM PST

    (FOR A FRIEND)

Friend is disabled and paralyzed from the waist down living in a "skilled nursing facility" and is about to be evicted for non-payment.

    She (clearly) has no money.

She also feels as though she has been mistreated in her facility. Her complaints include:

Having her foot ran over and losing skin.

    Failing to provide medicine.

Being left in a chair for long enough that her tailbone broke through her skin.

Generally feeling neglected (not being rolled, not being brought to therapy, etc).

Not having a catheter changed for upwards of 90 days.

& Much more that I could not even begin to mention.

This is very serious, she doesn't know where to start.

I only know this woman by way of the internet. Just trying to offer her some usable advice.

They're threatening to leave her paralyzed and homeless.

    Thanks for any advice.

Im being taxed $30,000 as the owner of a company I made $14,000 working for in 2017.

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 02:19 PM PST

I don't know how he did it but the owner of the company put all his taxes on me, a former employee. It has been reported by others that i made about $110,000. He lied to me about how much money was made by a large margin. We were supposed to be splitting profits, but me figuring out that we weren't led to my termination. It looks like multiple sketchy companies have filed the business's taxes in my name. Should i attempt to contact the owner first or is this something that had to be done deliberately.

My husband’s drivers license is suspended for a ticket received out of state for lack of proof of insurance, but we did (and still do) have insurance.

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 08:41 AM PST

First timer at r/legaladvice, and hoping you can help me. This is long, so please bear with me!

Backstory: My husband was driving in a neighboring state last year and was pulled over. He received a citation for not having his proof of insurance. (I think he just couldn't find the current card. We do have insurance, have always had insurance, and been with the same company for close to 20 years.)

When he got home he forgot about the ticket until a couple months later when he received a letter from our state saying that his drivers license would be suspended after a certain date due to this citation.

He immediately called the county court where he got the ticket. It obviously has fines and such associated and is now several hundred dollars. Oh well, his fault for not taking care of it sooner. He pays the ticket and also pays a small fee to have them fax record over to our state.

About 3 months later he is pulled over for speeding and they tell him his drivers license is suspended. What?! He explains what happened and they let him go, but with a fix-it type ticket. He spends quite a bit of time on the phone with our dmv (who said they never received record the ticket was taken care of) and the out-of-state county court who had to fax the proof about 15 times before our state dmv finally showed record of receiving it. He did have to pay a small reinstatement fee to the dmv, but once he was able to show our local county court everything, this newer ticket was dismissed.

So now we get to current time. Our oldest child is just about to get his drivers license, and we find out that adding him to our policy will close to double our monthly premium. We decide to shop around a little to find a better rate (which we do), and yesterday my husband is on the phone to finish up with the new policy, but wait - they can't finalize this because his drivers license is suspended. WHAT?!

So back he goes to calling the dmv, and sure enough, he is suspended for failure to provide SR-22 insurance. We have no idea what this is or what they are talking about. We find out this is a required (for like 3 years) high-risk insurance for people who have DWI/DUI and the like. Apparently when he paid the out of state ticket, there is some type of wording in it that he basically pled guilty to not having insurance. He did have insurance, and we can prove that he has always had insurance, but our state says it doesn't matter, he pled guilty.

He talked to the (out-of-state) county attorney, but since it's a closed case there isn't much that can be done. He said he could not offer any legal advice, but an attorney may be able petition the judge to reopen the case. Ugh!

We wondered if all this is even worth it, or if we should just pay for this extra insurance, but when we called our current insurance agent he pretty strongly recommended that we don't want to have SR-22 if we can get it fixed.

So this is what I bring to you - what advice do you have for me?? Do we need to hire an attorney in the state where this initial ticket happened to deal with this, or would one in our state be able to help? Also, I've never needed an attorney before and have absolutely no idea how much this is going to cost. (And in the meantime, my husband is driving around with a suspended license, so I really hope he doesn't get pulled over again.)

TL;DR My husband's drivers license is suspended for a ticket received out of state for lack of proof of insurance, but we did (and still do) have insurance.

IL: What are the legal implications of having a dog 'for protection' in your house?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 07:29 AM PST

There's a woman at my work who has a Black Russian Terrier/Belgian Malinois cross as a service dog she brings to work and I love her dog from afar. She looks exactly like a BRT - I didn't learn about her being a mix until I got to know her handler. In any case, the pup's a sweetheart.

But, this coworker also has an 8 month old Belgian Malinois at home being trained in bitework. Coworker says the dogs only job will be to protect the home and attack people if they come in without permission. A friend has already almost been attacked because they didn't knock first.

Is this dog a lawsuit waiting to happen or is this more like having a gun to protect yourself in your own home?
