Looks like MNP is doing some mid-year raises/bonuses. If you feel inclined to share, please specify: 1. Service line 2. Office region 3. Current level 4. Former salary --> current salary 5. Bonus amount 6. Raise %/amount received back in October

I brought in my first case!!!

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 02:04 PM PST

So as my flair indicates, I'm a forensic accounting associate, and today I brought in and sold my first case for my firm. Thanks to some pro Bono fraud investigation work I did for my HOA, I made a connection with a litigation attorney. Fast forward to this week, he reaches out to me to see if my firm is interested in helping with a case he has. My partner told me I'm the first associate-level employee he's had in 30 years to bring in a case since usually that's handled at a manager/partner level. Anyway, this is 100% a brag post, but it was hard to explain to my non-accounting friends how big of a deal today was for me. It's crazy to think only six years ago I was working at a grocery store as a cashier making $7.50 an hour. 😭😭

When you modify your workpaper to address the comments your manager has made and then the Partner leaves comments which in effect ask you to reverse your changes.

Who else is just sick of audit busy season?

Long hours to do the most boring tasks that are mind numbing, managing staff that dont care or are so new you have to explain them everything in such detail. Clients that just hate dealing with you because you just cause them to do extra work, working like 60+ hours every week, updating the pbc list in such refined detail because the client sends you shit support then claims they sent everything. Client workers who were ex-public accountants so question every procedure you do like they still know what theyre doing, meeting deadlines that you just dont care about, getting socially woke emails from your company every 30 minutes, sitting at your desk in your bedroom only to move 2 feet to your bed just to wake up and do it all again.

Was thumbing through a prior year return for a potential new client and I discovered something. On Schedule E for a rental house, the prior firm had incorrectly prepared it and was DEPRECIATING LAND!!!

My late grandpa was a CPA and I inherited his old accounting textbooks and materials when he passed. Here is a loan amortization reference booklet that he used a lot in the 1950s.

    Cannabis Industry and Accounting

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 10:00 PM PST

What is everyone's thoughts on the outlook for accounting in the cannabis industry and the industry as a whole?

Is it something that's very promising or just a mess all around? I know it's riddled with regulations currently but with current political climate I would think that things are moving in the right direction.

Does anyone have some insight or experience of what it's like?
