    Transitioning to Sales... Resume Help!

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 07:08 AM PST

As the title says, I am looking to transition to a Sales role and need help on resume formatting. I have spent the past 15 years in Retail (Target 5 years) and the MRO industry in several positions including as a BDR (~1 year) but most recently in Accounting (8 years).

The way my resume is currently written, it is the chronological style. I've read that a functional resume may help, but also read that recruiters hate it.

In short, I need my resume to stand out and get past the gatekeeper (most of the time it's the company's automated system to select candidates).

If anyone has suggestions on getting my resume formatted and/or noticed so that I can sell them me, I'm sure it will help!

    Need advice on raises

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 08:35 AM PST

So its around that time of year where we are figuring our 2020 budgets and strategy, i know this would be the time to ask for a raise but i dont know if its appropriate or how to approach the amount.

Some details, working in media sales, currently making $55K salary, i have only been in this position a year and a half, but have been with the company for 4 years. the first half year in sales i only achieved half of my goal, this year however i exceeded my goal by over $100K (goal was $645K). commission on this is 4% on target earnings, with an additional 4% if you reach your stretch goal, which i have. I was one of only two to hit my goal, out of 15 reps.

I am 24 years old, and really have never been in a position to ask for a raise outside of regular cost of living adjustments, I think its time to at least ask. The issue is my boss can be difficult to deal with, so i would like to go in and just say this is the amount i would like, and let them work it out on their end, i just have no idea what the standard ask would be here, I was thinking for asking an even $5K increase, but let me know if that is even a reasonable ask, really appreciate any help.

Need Enterprise SaaS Sales Compensation Advice

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 09:41 AM PST

Hey 👋🏻 VP of Sales here for smaller enterprise software business. I have about 20 reps around the world, Avg ARR around $150k, quotas from $800k-$1.3M. Anyway, we are looking at comp plans for next year and I'm having a debate with my CRO (who comes from Marketing background). The crux of the issue is that everyone is on different variable comp plans, between $75 and $125k on target, and they don't align all that well with current quotas.

I'll assume everyone reading this understands that quota, commission rate and variable comp is a just a basic math equation, and that it needs to add up...

So, to the debate: CRO wants to normalize quotas and assign different commission rates to different sellers to align with the variable comp in their contract. Her rationale is that this aligns better with our forecasting model.

My opinion, which I am fairly certain is the norm, is to hold commission rates as the constant and increase/decrease quota based on variable comp. We offer a 50/50 base/variable package... so if you want a lower quota, then you take a lower base (and in turn variable). Commission rate doesn't change.

I actually am relatively new to sales management and recognize my plan might work better in theory than in reality... so looking for opinions or advice. Go!

    Hoped career path into sales

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 11:37 AM PST

I'm starting a new sales job this Wednesday. I'm very excited about it. It's a great opportunity to make commission + residual. I'm also a bit nervous as well

    Previous work history:

    • Purchasing Manager
    • Network Admin
    • Help Desk Support
    • Food Manufacturing Worker
    • Delivery Driver

I know been kind of all over the place.

Can anyone give me some tips and tricks of the trade? Or maybe a few people to follow on YouTube? I already follow the big guys like cardone.

    CareerBuilder AE position offer?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 12:20 PM PST

Anyone here ever work for Careerbuilder in sales. The recruiter and manager seemed great but Glassdoor reviews are really hit or miss. Some people are really angry with them on LinkedIn and some people absolutely love it.

Do you correct people when they use the wrong name?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 11:36 AM PST

Had an hour long conversation with a prospective client today. At the end of the call she said "okay thank you Donald." I didn't correct her as she hung up after that. I know we will be in touch again soon as we have an appointment set for Wednesday and I'm sending her an email with my actual name (Dan, not Don) at the end too.

Just wondering what you all do in that case?

Getting a mortgage while in sales - how do you guys do it?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 09:38 AM PST

    Hey all,

I am reaching that point in my life where I am ready to buy a home, but am wondering how the guys who get paid on commission mentally prepare themselves for it.

I have consistently performed since being at this company last year, with increasing monthly income as I keep blowing out my number. Sadly, I can't get a mortgage that would be less than my base salary + living expenses because I live in a HCOL area, which means I need to start tapping into my commission checks to keep up.

So for you guys who are in sales, how did you prepare yourself mentally for having a mortgage set up?

Get started where I'm at or start in the state I intend to move to?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 08:59 AM PST

So I graduate with my degree (Economics) in May. My husband and I intend to move to Colorado in the somewhat near future. Our dilemma is this, do I start my career in sales where we currently live in New York where the cost of living is lower than Colorado, or do I start out there?

I was wondering how challenging it may be to transition after becoming established in my current state, and if it was worth it to just apply out there.

I'm not sure how much it matters but I'm looking to get into SaaS in the healthcare field. I don't have any sales experience and was planning on applying to jobs at ADP, Enterprise, and the like for entry level experience.

    Any insight is appreciated :)

How To Get Customers To Open Up? (Cold Calling)

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 01:31 PM PST

Been cold calling recently. Some people know what my product is and are truly not interested, but some simply aren't listening to what I'm saying because I'm a salesperson. One guy literally just answered the opposite of whatever I was asking.

How do I break through their state of completely ignoring whatever I have to say? How can I get them to honestly consider what I'm saying?

Anyone have any lead gen shortcuts for databases?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 09:50 PM PST

Does anyone have any easy way to compile leads from databases?

For example there is a database for plastic surgeons that has their name, address and contact details. You have to click onto their names to reveal all of the details.

Is there a way to automate the compilation of their details into a spreadsheet or something?

Opportunities in South Florida (West Palm Beach)

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 07:21 PM PST

    Hey guys,

I just moved to West Palm Beach from Miami. I'm working from home now, but this is not sustainable. I'm looking to get a new job.

I speak 3 languages and I have 5 years of sales/account management experience.

How's the market in West Palm? Any companies I should be looking at? I love tech.

    Thank you,

Are your sales coworkers shitty too?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 02:48 PM PST

I have a number of good coworkers, but also a number of awful people I work with who lie, break rules, and will seemingly do anything for money. Obviously it's management's job to sort out this kind of thing but I find our management is increasingly busy with other things and maybe might not give a shit as long as we get results. I work at a large, respectable SaaS company, not a place where I'd expect to encounter these things. Anyone ever dealt with coworkers like this?

What areas and markets do you see there being a lot of growth and demand for in SaaS in the coming years?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 01:46 PM PST

It seems like some markets in the SaaS space are too "over-saturated" and don't have as much growth potential, which ones will actually have the most demand from companies and will be experiencing a lot of growth in the coming years?

I hear Cybersecurity and Marketing are to be avoided because so many top players have their foot in that space, which markets are the ones waiting for experience a lot of growth and are the opposite of "over-saturated"?
