Profitability Calculator Spreadsheet - Thinking of starting a new venture? Posted: 03 Aug 2019 05:49 PM PDT Hello r/smallbusiness, I created this Microsoft Excel Workbook to give entrepreneurs and small business owners a tool to do a "smell test" on an idea/product/business they have. Fill in guesstimated Sales Price (ASP), Cost of Goods (COGs), and Fixed Expenses. The spreadsheet allows you to auto-magically find profitability benchmarks by clicking "Run Test" once all yellow-highlighted fields are filled in. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Aug 2019 11:05 AM PDT I'm in Canada. Title says it all. I don't want to give away details of my business idea but I think it is a good one. I work in tech and I can get the web design and database covered. Probably SEO as well. I've never had any sense of entrepreneurship or any motivation to start my own business before, so I'd like a mentor to help me cover all areas and help me answer questions. If he/she would like to invest or be a business partner that would be great as well but mainly I'd like someone to advise me. I have mobility and work-conflict issues issues so I cannot go to many entrepreneurship meetups. The few that I was able to make it to seemed to be mainly real estate agents looking for clients/business partners. I already have a rough business plan drawn out but obviously need to fill in the gaps. [link] [comments] |
Easiest way to keep track of inventory for my father's beauty supply shop. Posted: 03 Aug 2019 07:27 PM PDT Hello r/smallbusiness, I thought I'd give this subreddit a try since I don't really know where to ask, but I hope I am at the right place! My dad owns a beauty supply store selling wigs, hair products, makeup, etc and he's been running his business almost 9 years now. I help in occasionally over the weekends since I have a full time job during the summer. Whenever a customer buys a wig, the worker who sold the wig brings up the wig to the cashier and we have a log book that we manually write down filling out the date, company, style, color, price, etc of the wig. He's been doing this ever since he opened the store and it is sometimes difficult to look over the past years trying to find out if a certain style wig was sold or to keep track on how many wigs he has. I was thinking, maybe create a program or use an excel sheet to keep track of all the wigs. I want my father to be able to just Ctrl-F and find what he needs and to keep track of quantity. Or even create a shared excel spreadsheet, so when someone sells a customer a wig, she will update the inventory, so the cashier doesn't even have to worry about it. What do you guys think the best solution would be? I want to be able to put less stress and time for my father. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Aug 2019 06:24 PM PDT i buy the games through Ebay, sell through Ebay, but due to this, there isn't consistent items to purchase. Some days i'll buy 0, others 3 etc. I want to branch out, but i don't know where to go to. I've also thought about finding retailers who sell cheaply, but i'm struggling. I'm more than willing to take small returns right now, to expand, it's a hobby for now, as i'm 20 and have a full time "career" job, but i'm so much more passionate about this [link] [comments] |
Workflow or process automation using Excel? Anyone interested? Posted: 03 Aug 2019 06:59 PM PDT Doing a bit of market research for the Reddit community. I've successfully automated several processes and workflows for a handful of clients in Toronto, Canada. Does anyone have any painfully manual tasks, processes or just questions on how to improve your, your teams or companies efficiencies? An example I worked on was a letter generation process for a Talent Acquisition firm. We were able to streamline their manual offers from 10 minutes per offer to 10 offers in two minutes. This was a time savings of approx 16 hours (weekly the firm processes about 100 offers). Another client had a mundane task of collecting new real estate listings in a specific city. We were able to build him an automated tool that would collect all links with the click of one button. Here to see what fellow Redditors need help with. PM me with your scenarios. We are looking at offering our service for free to five clients just to give back to this community and gage interest. [link] [comments] |
Small Business loan or credit card for starting costs? Posted: 04 Aug 2019 04:08 AM PDT Looking at starting a new business, and I may need around $2k-3k in starting costs. Does it make sense to get this via a loan or use a credit card opened just for the company? I expect it to take at least a few months before the company is making enough capital to starting paying back the debt. If this is a new business, am I just screwed in general, and should be expecting to just invest my own funds? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Aug 2019 05:14 PM PDT I have started a small food based business this year, and already have several people approach me regarding being an investor. This is all new to me, and I really don't have a local mentor. A little about the business: food-related business, in an industry I and my business partner have 15+ years experience combined. Have personally invested ~$5000. Have been in business (mind, this is a side business for myself and my partner, so time invested is still pretty minimal, and there is a good amount of potential for growth) just about 6 months. Without radical changes, can expect around $400/week in sales. More as we continue to secure regular customers. Have monthly (non-COGS )expenses totalling ~$300. Have currently business credit card with $8000 ($3500 for set-up equipment, $5500 for goods to sell) on it. Have a 120 month simple interest loan that paid for some equipment we need ($216/month of the afore mentioned $300). What sort of investment agreement makes sense in this type of situation, when they are only offering ~$2,000-3000? I personally own 90% and my partner is in for 10%. I'm not opposed to granting non-voting shares in the company, but I don't want to give up even 10% unless it is taking care of the debt we currently have. [link] [comments] |
To collaborate with a company offering similar services or to go it alone? Posted: 03 Aug 2019 11:31 PM PDT Basically there's this start up offering very similar services on their website and app which I would like to offer. It's a social network focused on the business community. I would like to add many more services to their platform. And I would make it relevant to my geographical area. Now I haven't approached the company yet so I don't know how they would respond. I'm young and inexperienced and don't have much funding. Collaborating with them would give me access to a team of people to share the work with, adequate funding and experience. On the other hand, if I can cough up the money , I could easily build a platform similar to theirs. What do you recommend? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Aug 2019 02:42 AM PDT Hello there! My name is Theodor and I'm in the process of coming up with a name for my personal brand. I'm a filmworker but also do photography and web development/design. I'm not sure where I want to take the business in the future - maybe become a film production company or become more like a media/design firm. I'm stuck at the naming but one of the names I've found I'm quite fond of: Tale. Reasons I like it: It's incorporated in everything I do (film/photo/design) but it's also flexible It's my initials (Theodor Erik Axel Lundqvist). It's easy to remember, spell and it looks good visually IMO. Problem: SEO Availability To combat the problems I've come up with some alternatives: Tael Thael (I spell Theo with h) Detale (Can be read as "The tale", "Detail", "The TALE"(my initials)) Tale Media/Studio/Film/Productions (not sure about these ones) Of the alternatives I like Tael and Thael the most. Would love some input, feedback or suggestions though! [link] [comments] |
Are tools like Ninja Outreach GDPR compliant? Posted: 04 Aug 2019 02:32 AM PDT Hi there! I'm currently in the process of launching my first digital product, and one of the pillar promotion ideas has been to try and recruit affiliates in my niche by sending them e-mails through NinjaOutreach and asking them to promote my stuff. For those who don't know (I'm not very knowledgeable either), NinjaOutreach is a tool that makes it easier to contact social media influencers in bulk. I don't know much about it either, because I decided to create a free trial account only once I launch. Anyways, I know about the GDPR rules and how, at least in Europe, unsolicited e-mails are instantly seen as spam and considered illegal and I really don't want to get there. Does this apply to cold B2B e-mails as well, where you actually have someone's e-mail, or is it more like "don't buy e-mail lists and don't spam random people"? [link] [comments] |

Need Advice on Working with Product Designer Posted: 04 Aug 2019 12:40 AM PDT Hi this post is in relation to the question I asked before regarding where to have a product designed (https://old.reddit.com/r/smallbusiness/comments/bu0nbe/who_do_i_go_to_to_have_a_product_designed/) So I followed your advice and reached out to design companies and freelance designers. I had them sign an NDA before discussing the product with them. One of the freelance designers I talked to is asking for 2% royalties and a co-patent name should the product be patented (which I can eventually buy out). Is this usually the case for having design work outsourced? I am paying him to do the design to my product idea, so does that entitle him to patent ownership too? Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Aug 2019 03:39 PM PDT Hey Reddit, I am a half-owner in a Texas LLC with my wife owning the other half. We are trying to open a new bank account for the company after moving to Virginia. When I was in Texas, my driver license had my name misspelled and was never changed until I provided my passport in Virginia as grounds to change it on my new VA driver's license. But the problem is that my LLC still has my old name on the Certificate of Formation and on the Public Information Report and the Operating Agreement and the Bank says it would be "falsifying Bank documents" if I open the account with the new name. Can someone please help me in what I should do? Should I file a certificate of amendment or is there any way to amend the already-filed Public Information Report or what should I do? Thanks! Small business management software—looking for suggestions. Posted: 03 Aug 2019 07:11 PM PDT My father and I run the family business that has a semi-unique business model. We are looking for a workflow application that will allow us to manage the business, quotes/invoices/payments, sales reps, tasks, etc all in one place. The business is service based and we have independent contractor sales reps all over the country. The sales reps solicit interior designers in their regions who then solicit their clients for our service. The sales reps also manage the techs in their area who perform the service. The reps, designers, and techs are paid commission on their sales. Sales reps are responsible for creating their own quotes based on our corporate price structure. They then send their own reports to me every month where I then input the data into excel and quickbooks for payments. However, I'm looking to entirety streamline this process. Manually crossing off payments made, manually creating price quotes, and having no way to track quotes that have been put out, no crm software, etc is a pain. I'd also like the software to maintain email addresses of all of our interior designers and clients. Does anyone have any suggestions for a program that could fulfill our needs? Any help is greatly appreciated as I feel like I'm drowning in unnecessary clerical work. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
If your business specializes in selling hardware can they also sell food? Posted: 03 Aug 2019 02:45 PM PDT Let's say I I'm the owner of a business, a hardware store under LLC. Lets say one of my family members wants to see what people think of their food they made. So I make a special in the Store. I tell them if you buy 50$ worth of items you get a free burger or hotdog that my family member makes. Now if some how they find something in the food like a blade in it. Can they sue the person who made It or the business which is the Store? Also, Since the business is under LLC as a hardware store can they also sell food or are they only limited to selling hardware supplies? A better summary of that question^ If your business specializes in selling a service or tools, can they also sell different things like food? [link] [comments] |
Lead Management Software - Tourism Posted: 03 Aug 2019 05:58 PM PDT I operate a tourism business that receives many free text email enquiries (gmail). Requests are commonly "I'm coming to [CITY] on [DATE] and want to see [PLACE A] and [PLACE B]. Please provide a quote" Can anyone recommend a system which integrates with gmail to manage such requests: records their receipt, can be assigned to a user to action, provides follow up prompts if users don't respond and allows us to track conversion rates? Starting a tree removal business on the side. What equipment or knowledge could I be missing? Posted: 03 Aug 2019 06:21 AM PDT I'm more asking for the running of the business as my partner has the experience and I'm in charge of the management part. [link] [comments] |
How to make use of injury downtime Posted: 03 Aug 2019 03:30 PM PDT I'm a detailer, I've been doing this for 4 years on the side and started a solo business for the first time last spring. I've been taking the bread and butter work over the summer and have several paint corrections lined up for September/October. I broke my wrist and unfortunately I'm laid up for the next 6 weeks. This shouldn't mess up my high end jobs but I would like to somehow make the most of this downtime, maybe consulting or reviewing products (very saturated) any advice is appreciated. By next year I want to be focused on paint correction and if I can refer my customers to someone in the meantime, and carry that relationship forward into a subcontractor position that could be very valuable to me. Posted: 03 Aug 2019 06:55 PM PDT I'm in the process of starting a Keto-friendly espresso and bakery food cart and I need to choose a name! For those who may not know, a keto diet is low-carb, high-fat. The stereotype of the diet is eating bacon and butter all day. One of the most popular keto recipes (and one of the core menu items on the cart) is bulletproof coffee which is butter (or other oil) blended with coffee. The ideas that I've been floating around are:
I want to know which of these ideas people like, or any other great ideas you have! [link] [comments] |

Seeking financial guidance for my lawn care startup Posted: 03 Aug 2019 12:51 PM PDT Hello Reddit A friend of mine and I are starting a landscaping business which we are each depositing $2500 ($5000 total). We have all of our equipment and expenses budgeted out. We have about 7-8k in equipment expenses and are looking for a truck in the $12-15k range. We are hoping to finance all of these expenses, but neither of us really have a clue where to start with that or if that's really even the best route. Any advice? [link] [comments] |
