My friends 4 year old son was in a horrible accident and was burned second degree and some 4th degree. He is going to Laboneur every few days. He has anthem blue cross blue shield and Medicaid. They are paying $200 copay for every visit. Does that sound right? Mom was just diagnosed with cancer. Insurance

She is really struggling financially. I have experience with the medical system as a social worker/therapist and she is going to sign the forms so I can talk to them.

First thing she did was take him to our local ER where they cleaned it and dressed it and send him home. (They don't have a burn unit). Her son was writhing in pain and she drove the hour and a half to Laboneur and they kept him over night and he has a plan for the next several weeks and then maybe skin grafts etc.

Any advice? She could use all the help she can get. She is doing chemo and take care of her little boy and 2 other kids.

Should I file a claim for a broken windshield?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 02:29 AM PDT

Last September my wife's car got hit by a stone and the windshield cracked. Insurance paid $600 to replace the broken windshield. Now, almost a year later, the same thing has happened again. Should I file another claim or just eat the $600? We pay $865 per year on that car in premiums so I'm guessing some actuarial (or more likely a software algorithm) somewhere is going to jack up our rates more than we're paying. I should note the policy just renewed in June. Thoughts?

Question in settlement for dog bite from neighbors dog

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 07:48 AM PDT

My four year old daughter was bitten by our neighbors dog on her face about a year ago. She received about 30 stitches, but there was no severe damage to her eyes or anything. She has some scars around her eyes and on her nose. It looks like most will not be very noticeable except one large cut in the middle of her cheek that was very deep. A plastic surgeon at the Children's hospital did the stitches and we have been to several follow up appointments, but it's hard to say how the scars will look as she ages. The insurance company accepted liability and has offered a settlement of $13k. Can I negotiate this? I just want to make sure we have the money to get any corrective work done when she is older if she wants. We aren't interested in suing our neighbor. Her dog is a yellow lab that is older and not used to kids and has never been aggressive according to her. What should we do? We are in MD if that helps.

Edit: Thank you to everyone who replied. I had no idea that this was such a low offer. I will be calling a lawyer on Monday.

    Moped accident

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 06:30 PM PDT

I was driving my moped, when a driver coming from a side street ran a stop sign. I noticed in time, and in an attempt to avoid collision, made a sharp turn and fell from my scooter, getting some pretty bad road rash, burns, and other minor injuries, as well as some minor damages to my brand new (had it less than 5 days) moped. They called an ambulance (although I told them not to, since I probably can't afford the bill) and we filed an accident report with police. Would it be worthwhile to try to make a claim with their insurance? I don't want to waste my time, since there was technically no collision

Still no EOB for dental work after 5 months

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 11:25 PM PDT

For more context; another post I made 4 months ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/Insurance/comments/b6stu2/still_have_not_received_eob_for_dentist/

I'm still waiting to receive any sort of notification that the claims filed by my dentist office have been processed or received...or denied, I guess. I went into the office to speak to the receptionist at the time of writing that first post I linked to and it did seem like they filed the claims since they confirmed that they didn't hear anything back from insurance yet. They mentioned they would call them. I haven't heard from the dentist's office so I assumed everything was fine. However...we've passed 5 months at this point since I had the first round of dental work done and still have not received an EOB. My insurance is my father's and is through BCBS of Texas. All the forms/paperwork I've received from the dentist listed my provider as Anthem BCBS, but a comment on my first post suggests that's normal.

The dentist is in-network; I confirmed this with my insurance company. Per their contract, they are supposed to file my claims. What do I do? I don't know if this is typical, but it's starting to feel like it's not. My brother has had extensive medical work done over the past several months and I can see those claims listed on my dad's BCBS account online, so I don't know why my dentistry work isn't showing up or why I haven't received an EOB yet for my three separate appointments.

Business Insurance for a Marketing & Analytics Agency

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 09:52 PM PDT

I started an agency and have a half dozen clients at the moment.

I am not sure what insurance I need. I was thinking of getting general liability, cyber, and professional liability, but not sure if that covers me enough.. I know I really need to sit down with someone to show them the contracts, go through my costs and everything else to get an understanding of what my potential risk is, but was hoping for a general answer.

    Any help would be great.

Widely varying rates on car insurance??

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 08:25 PM PDT

I'm checking out rates for car insurance since our (mine and husband's) policy is coming up for renewal. I'm getting a wide range of quotes for the same coverage. Something seems really weird. We are in Memphis, TN and are both in our 30's now. No accidents or claims in the last 5 years.

    I quoted:

    Liability 100/300/100

    Uninsured motorist BI 100/300

    Uninsured motorist PD 50k

    Medical payments - 2K

Comprehensive and collision for a 2015 Jeep Patriot and a 2012 Prius.

No roadside or rental - we have that covered with AAA.

The prices range from $460/6months to $1200/6 months. What gives? Is the cheaper option too good to be true? I've gotten a similarly low quote from a couple of national agencies.

Shopping for car insurance is frustrating. Please help me understand the difference in the rates.

Am I a high risk driver?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 01:44 PM PDT

    Hello r/Insurance,

I'm from Ontario, Canada. I began driving in late 2017 to commute to and from work. As a result of being a novice driver, I've gotten into a fair share of fender benders that have resulted in my premiums increasing.

My monthly premium was $180 in the 2017-2018 coverage year when I started, and increased to $380 due to two at-fault collisions; in the next coverage year (2018-2019), I've been in two further at-fault collisions (although minor) and do not know what this will do to my premiums: either they will increase to a ridiculous amount, or my insurance provider may discontinue coverage on grounds that I'm too high risk.

I'd love to hear if you've been in a similar situation and what you did to address it:

    • Is it possible to get any early indication from my current insurance provider as to what the new premiums (starting in November) might be or whether they intend to stop providing coverage?
    • Given a driving record of four at fault collisions in two years, how easy/difficult would it be to find alternative providers? It is unclear what the criteria is for being considered a "high risk" driver.

    Thanks,

Allstate changed their minds about insuring my vehicle after 6 months

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 07:25 AM PDT

    So here's the situation -

Back in January we needed to upgrade our large family SUV to accommodate the arrival of our 4th child. We had rented minivans in the past and knew the space was super limited when trying to pack the kids, dogs, and all the fixings in for a weekend camping trip. Knowing this we had our eyes on the bigger vans. So down to Carmax we stroll and at the end of the line of minivans we see a Ford Transit 350 XLT. Alright! Test drive goes good, no issues, low miles, well within our price range, and I'm qualified(first loan I've taken out in ten years). Call up Allstate, give them the info on it, alls well, we sign on the lines.

Fast forward 6 months later, I get a letter in the mail from the DMV that my insurance had been canceled two weeks ago! Knowing they had definitely taken my money this month I called to find out what was going on only to be told that when my policy was up for renewal, they decided since the transit is a 15 passenger, it needed commercial insurance, so they canceled my policy. I received no notification, no phone calls, and have apparently been driving for two weeks without insurance.. idk about the rest of the country but in NY they would tow my vehicle and arrest me if I had been pulled over.

On top of that I purchased the vehicle under the assumption it was covered under my auto policy.

My question is, do I have any legal recourse to this? Can they be held responsible? I financed the vehicle only after allstate agreed to insure it on my policy. Can they just drop me without warning and put me at risk of legal action? I drive for a living, having a suspended license due to this is detrimental to my family.

    Car Insurance Coverage Question

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 04:54 PM PDT

I was recently driven off the road in Texas by a semi-truck. He quickly merged into my lane right on top of me, and I was forced off the road to avoid collision. I hit a median and damaged the whole left side of my vehicle. I got his license plate, insurance info, police report, and the name/number of a witness to the event.

I called my insurance company in Texas and was told that I am "at fault" and responsible for the damages since his vehicle did not hit mine. Is this right? Am I fully responsible for this, or is there any way to collect payment from the negligent driver's insurance company?

It seems crazy to me that I could have been better off letting him hit me.

    Almost accident. what would’ve happened?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 04:23 PM PDT

I was driving on a main road and a car was about to pull out of a side road but was hesitant on whether to pull out or not. they eventually did right when i was about to pass them and i slammed on my brakes when they did. it was raining so i started to skid and turned my steering wheel to avoid impact with them. i was going the speed limit. would it have been her fault in the state of KY? I have liability since i drive a 97 civic and i'm pretty sure they had full coverage since it was a newer car (newer chrysler 300). what would've happened if the accident would've happened. i am 18 have never had an accident.

    Rear ended settlement question

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 03:29 PM PDT

A few months ago, I was rear ended by a large commercial construction truck. My car was totaled, and I've been paid for that.

My question is in relation to a settlement. My physical therapy alone is roughly $12,000. My medical bills are upwards of $7000, as I've had several diagnostic tests. Diagnosis is a bulging disc in my neck, a bulging disc in my pelvis, and RSD. Doctor thinks I might be able to keep the pain away for a few hours, but might deal with it coming back for the rest of my life.

What's a fair settlement? I have not been offered anything as my treatment is still continuing, just genuinely curious. TIA!

I’m new to the industry, and need some help!

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 06:45 AM PDT

So I just accepted a job as a CL and PL Processor at a small agency, but I do not know a lot about insurance (I'm assuming CL and PL mean Commercial Lines and Personal lines). I've been reading over their website and looking up stuff on Investopedia to get a better idea of its inner workings, but I could definitely use an insider's advice. They want me to do basic office functions like Word, Excel, and use a program called AMS for inputting data and going paperless. I'm pretty good with technology, so I don't think it will be a problem but I'm getting overwhelmed with a lot of the information. If anyone here has any good resources or advice, I would definitely appreciate it!

3rd party claim-same car insurance company check issue?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 10:26 AM PDT

Was in an accident last week, other party accepted full responsibility. Both of us have Geico. Damage inspection was completed today and she mentioned that the payment will be a two party check to myself and the body shop. Normally I wouldn't mind but the shop was going to help me out with some other minor damage if I was cash pay (check made out to me). The car has a lien on it, but I thought since it's a third party claim-the check would be made out just to me?

Normally I think that's the case but wondering if Because we have the same company it's creating some issues.

    Any help?

I’m a little confused about what this Gerber insurance plan is?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 09:38 AM PDT

I was recently made aware that my grandpa has been paying for this plan for me since I was a baby. I don't understand what it is? Is it life insurance for me if I die? Because I'm 23 now and I get insurance through my full time job. My mom just gave me a piece of mail saying I was eligible to purchase this for my child ( that I don't have). Can someone explain in more detail what the point of this life insurance was? Like in case I died as a baby?

    Exclusions vs Endorsements

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 07:45 AM PDT

    Property claim question in Tennessee.

Does the Exclusion for Rot trump the Ordinance & Law Endorsement for building code requiring replacement of the rotten board?

I have always heard it the other way around - that an inclusion trumps an exclusion, and the rotten board replacement is covered, but I have nothing in writing either way. Can someone set the record straight for me?

Replacement of property that still sort of works

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 06:45 AM PDT

I work for a non-profit and we experienced a lightning strike that damaged some equipment. One of the items, a 3-4 year old projector, received some damage and some of the ports do not work. We can work around this with a lot of "plug this cable into this converter and then this converter into that converter into one of the working ports."

If we replaced the projector, would it be covered, or would we be stuck with this sort-of-working projector?

Since the deductible will be eaten up by a lot of the other repairs/equipment, it seems to me if we have the opportunity, now's the time to replace. We have a Trustee who is trying to do the workaround.

Question about insurance premiums after hurricane. Florida

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 06:11 AM PDT

I'm considering purchasing a fully developed lot in Mexico Beach Florida. The property is about a mile off the beach and the original house was lost in the hurricane. I was wanting to purchase the lot and eventually build but I'm worried about the cost of hurricane and flood insurance increases since the hurricane. I'm assuming they will go up, and worried it might put a potential home out of my price range. Thoughts? Thanks!
