Posted: 26 Feb 2019 04:15 AM PST Hi, I (F25) am thinking of looking for a new job and I'm considering underwriting assistant positions. I'm hoping someone can tell me a little bit about it, particularly about commercial underwriting (almost no interest in underwriting personal policies). I've worked for a larger agency in the northeast for about 3 years as an assistant account manager. I am P&C licensed, and have a bachelors degree in English literature. Underwriting seems like a good fit as I would prefer not to be client facing with the general public. Can anyone offer some insight into what underwriting is like? Pay/hours? Any skills that might be beneficial to have? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 03:12 PM PST As the title states, my girlfriend got into an accident which resulted in her car being towed (damage is extensive). There is no stop sign on the side of the intersection where she crossed. The car is still sitting at the tow company's lot. A police report was taken at the scene. She has full coverage insurance, but they said they would cover only $150 of the towing/storage costs. How should she go about filing her claim? Is it possible to reduce her percentage fault by contesting the citation? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 11:07 AM PST Hey guys, got in an extremely minor accident yesterday when I hit another rear bumper at ~~5pmh. Very minimal and non noticeable damage from both cars. No injuries. I called my insurance company and made a claim and all seemed okay so far. Then I got a call back saying the following call would be recorded and one of the first questions that was asked was if there was anyone living in my household besides [Dad's name] and [mom's name]. I didn't think anything of it but said yes my sister was living with me at the moment. He then said that this could be an issue in the coverage because when I got my insurance back in Aug. 2017, my sister actually wasn't living with me, and I had reported that it was only me my mom and dad which was factually true. But about 5 months later she moved in and has been here since. Because of this He told me it might still get covered but not guaranteed. Honestly this is my first accident so if you guys could give me some insight or offer any advice or if you guys would know what would actually happen in this situation I'd appreciate it a lot. Thanks! Edit: one thing I forgot to mention is that he did in fact ask if she has a drivers license to which I said no and that she does not drive. Even after telling him this, at the end he still told me that multiple factors go into whether an accident gets covered or not, and that my sister not being listed as a household member may be one of them. Thank you to the people who took the time to look at my post and reply. [link] [comments] |
Parking Lot Incident? (Car Insurance Post) Posted: 25 Feb 2019 11:12 PM PST So about an hour ago, I was turning into a complex and immediately saw an open parking spot. I misjudged my turn and accidentally hit the parked car, next to the empty spot, on my way in. So of course, I stopped and backed out and re-parked. I waited for the owner for 15-20 minutes but they never came out so I wrote a note with my contact info, explaining the situation. I also took pics of the damage. Theirs didn't seem so bad compared to mine. Anyway, I left the complex but returned because I felt guilty and wanted to add my insurance info. So I stuck a second note with my insurance information. I'm a AAA member and seeing as their hours are not open at this time, I filed a claim online. I just have a few questions. For those with AAA or know much about AAA/experiences like these, would I be paying a deductible before the insurance takes care of everything and if so, how much? Also, does AAA cover for damages to my car even though I am at fault? If not, how much would it cost to have a part of my bumper fixed? I have a 2015 Subaru Impreza. Lastly, would this go on my insurance record and drive up my rates? I have only filed 1 claim, which was actually this month for a cracked windshield due to bad weather conditions. I've only had 2 tickets, which were both paid off and did traffic school for, and had 1 accident 3 yrs ago. *I would also like to note that their car had prior damages/scratches before I hit their car. They were much further back and placed much higher than my car could have reached. My car is also red and left a red mark where I hit but their prior scratches don't have that. I'm afraid they might believe that those scratches are from me too! ) Thank you! [link] [comments] |

Trying To Find Health Insurance Posted: 25 Feb 2019 10:10 PM PST Up until recently I was on medicaid due to being unemployed. However, now that I have a job I have been removed due to "making too much money" and have to find my own insurance. My company offers insurance, but it is awful, basically the lowest of the low, the bare minimum they can offer and still call it insurance. Plus I already missed the enrollment so even if I wanted it it's too late. I looked on the "marketplace" and the cheapest plan it showed me was $286 a month with a $7,500 deductible. I can't afford that. That is almost half of my bi-weekly check. It's 18% of my yearly income after taxes. That's ridiculous. Is there anywhere else I can find health insurance outside of the marketplace that I might find more realistic options that I can actually afford? I heard that I can hire a broker but I have no idea how much that will cost and all the ones I see near me are for specific companies or only deal in life insurance, not health insurance. Posted: 25 Feb 2019 03:59 PM PST My estranged wife is driving a car that is registered in my name, with insurance that is only in my name. Her license is suspended. If she gets in an accident with no license and insurance that is in my name, what's likely to happen next? [link] [comments] |
Should I claim on insurance or pay out of pocket? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 07:28 PM PST I was involved in fender bender in parking lot. I have a large truck and had no damage. The other vehicle which was stationary has side damage. I offered to pay for repairs out of pocket because I'm concerned that my rates will increase dramatically. Damage was quoted at approximately $2200 by 2 shops. I'm close friends with the individuals who's car was damaged and am not concerned about problems in the future if I pay out of pocket. My question is would I save any money going through insurance? I'm in my early 20s and had a past accident about 2 years ago. [link] [comments] |
Would having a 6 years old petty theft misdemeanor affect getting licensed in CA Posted: 25 Feb 2019 03:13 PM PST Through away account for obvious reasons. I've made a mistake back in August 2013 that resulted in me getting charged with a misdemeanor petty theft, that happened in CA. It was my first time being in such a position, I plead guilty and got released immediately, and lesson learned. Fast forward till now, I got offered a job offer from an insurance company with excellent pay, in which I'm very interested in pursuing. Would my background get in my way of getting licensed. Posting from Northern California. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 06:25 PM PST I went to the hospital and it said claim 600 and my insurance covered 400. Fi ally paid 200,but I have never received the bill. Is it so times the hospital will bill much more because they know you have insurance? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 10:32 AM PST We had a kitchen leak back in November. The claim has been accepted by Mercury. The kitchen still had the original cabinets from 1953. These cabinets were steel cabinets. Cabinets of this nature are non existent nowadays. Their xactimate is for standard grade cabinets. What is considered standard grade? Their line items for cabinets come in at around $4,000. Went to Lowe's last night and got a quote for identical sizes and the quote just for cabinets is $6,500. Does the xactimate line items for cabinets include labor for install? Also they are expecting me to reinstall the sink that was also the original sink in our brand new cabinets and countertops. Is this the norm? Any help or insight you can send my way is greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Bought phone on swappa plan to send old one in for claim Posted: 25 Feb 2019 05:45 PM PST Hi my current phone has a screen that needs to be replaced because of the leaked Liquid Crystal. I bought a same model phone on swappa along with their in-house insurance. Now what I can do is I can send the old one in when the new one gets here and say the screen needs to be replaced but then there's the problem with the serial number also known as the IMEI number if the insurance place checks that [link] [comments] |
Gallblader stones, poor college student, horrible insurance no copay. Other options? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 10:12 AM PST Hi all, Insurance has always been very confusing for me and hoping to get some advice here. I have mild to severe stomach pain daily and am sure I need to go into the doctor to get blood tests but cannot afford it. My mother had good insurance but switched jobs and now has hardly any. It has no copay and the deductable is crazy high. I live in Greeley Colorado and want to find a way to sign up for Medicare or Obamacare maybe (is that still a thing?). I'm student teaching right now and have job fairs in 3 weeks. Options on how to not bankrupt myself and help solve these stomach pains? Other options available? Thank you all Ps: already waived the universities health insurance because its 1500 a semester and mom used to have pretty solid insurance. [link] [comments] |
Apartment flooded from clogged toilet Posted: 25 Feb 2019 06:13 AM PST Last night around midnight toilet became completely clogged, would not plunge at all. Manually cleaned out the toilet and turned water on to have water in toilet so not to have sewerage smell come through. Called on call maintenance and left an emergency message that toilet was clogged and was only one in the house. Woke up this morning to have the apartment flooded to at least hallway and closet area. I called and left another emergency message with maintenance letting them know it's now flooded. Wife is currently going through to see what is damaged. Soon after leaving the second message with maintenance, they called back stating they got my message last night but their system was unable to call me back. (Left phone number on both messages, so not sure why they needed the system to call me back when they could have written down my number.) My goal is to see how much damage is done to property and to stay in a hotel for a couple of nights while they deal with the mess. I know it's going to take a few fans to run all day and they are loud and obnoxious. Would renter's insurance cover the hotel stay? Should I force them to cover the hotel stay while everything dries out? [link] [comments] |
How does my new health insurance already have record of my past doctor's visits? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 03:29 PM PST Hey guys, fresh out of college here and not super knowledgeable about this sort of thing so sorry if these questions are dumb. I started a new job at the beginning of this month and got on the health insurance that they offer. It is the same insurance company as the previous (my mom's) plan I was on, but obviously a different plan and a whole new account with only my name attached to it. Just now I logged into the online portal for the first time and was greeted with a billing breakdown for all my past doctors' and dentists' visits, up to and including a dentist visit from this past August for which they are saying I owe $40. My question is twofold:
Thanks so much! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 03:18 PM PST I am 6 months into my new career as a Claims Processor. How much does politics play in the insurance business? The company I work for it seems like if you know the right person or bark loud enough you get paid whatever you want. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 06:10 AM PST Hello all, Just looking for some insight. Last year on Valentine's day, I fell down the stairs at my boyfriends place. His best friend owned the house. I broke my ankle and leg completely so that my foot was detached inside the skin. I missed about 4 months of work, and had to withdraw from Cosmetology school. I asked the owner of the home to file an insurance claim, since I missed so much work and I now owe my school $8k and cant go back until its paid off. The homeowner did not want to open a claim because he did not have a railing on the stairs I fell down. He asked me to lie about where I fell. So, not only would he not open a claim, he lied to his insurance claiming he had a railing. (He built a railing, took pictures of it, photoshopped a date onto it, and submitted it to his insurance.) I ended up getting a lawyer. He is a criminal defense lawyer as well as a personal injury attorney. I am worried that I will lose my case if my lawyer cant prove that there was no railing. My lawyer is not worried at all, but I am. IDK just wondering if anyone has ever been in a similar situation or if has any experience with personal injury claims. [link] [comments] |
Anesthesia company billed insurance 4 months after procedure, coming after me since claim was denied Posted: 25 Feb 2019 02:28 PM PST In June 2018 I had a colonoscopy done. My copay was $150 to my doctor and $150 to the hospital the procedure was done at. Last month I received a bill for over $1400 from the anesthesia company. I looked at the bill and it didn't show it was ever sent to my insurance for adjustments. I called my insurance company and she made a call to the company. They would not speak to her because they had a different birth date on file and a different address. She did a three-way phone call and I corrected my birthday and my address for them. The anesthesia rep said that since the claim was denied, I was responsible for the full amount. The insurance rep asked why it hadn't been filed on time, and ended up requesting a timely filing (I think that's what it's called). The anesthesia rep said they would place a hold on my account for review. If I hadn't heard back in 7-10 days I was to call my insurance company. During this call my rep confirmed with her manager that since they had waited too long to file, I would not be responsible for the amount. After a week and a half I called and spoke to the same insurance rep. She spoke to them again and said to give it to the end of the month before calling back again. Today I got another bill in the mail, this time due the 28th of this month, for the same amount. I called my insurance company again, and spoke to a different rep. He called the anesthesia office to find out if my account was still on hold. They told my rep that they do not place accounts on hold while they are under review. I had him call back to find out when they would be sending it to collections. They said that information would be available Wednesday the 27th. I asked my rep to confirm that the bill would have been paid if it was submitted on time. He confirmed the code was covered, and it would have been paid. I asked my rep to confirm that I would not be liable for the amount if the claim was ultimately denied, or not dismissed by the office. He said he couldn't guarantee that, it's up to the doctor's policy. I let him know that the other rep told me the opposite, and he insisted that it was between me and the anesthesia office. Could I really be responsible for this bill? This was 100% their fault. They submitted it almost 4 months after the procedure. I paid my copays and submitted all of my correct insurance information. I did not give them the wrong birthday or address. I am worried about this getting sent to collections and ruining my credit. I do not have the money to pay this and I refuse to pay for their mistake. Should my insurance company be doing more to help me? They will not have more information until Wednesday but I just want to know how much help I should be expecting from them. [link] [comments] |
NY - small accident - unsure whether to file a claim Posted: 25 Feb 2019 01:41 PM PST Wife got into a minor accident with a parked car. Haven't heard anything from other car yet and she got quote for about $2500 repair. We have a $500 deductible. I'm not sure if I should use my insurance for repairs or not, since the cost is relatively small and I don't want it to increase our rates. On the flip side, we both have good driving records with only minor glass claim over nearly a decade of being insured by State farm. What do the experts of Reddit think? If I make a claim, will my rates go up and if they do, would it cost me more or less in the long run. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
I need to fly to another city for some office related work, question about rental car insurance. Posted: 25 Feb 2019 12:49 PM PST I live in city A and need to fly to city B, to do some work in our office in city B. My company is buying flight tickets, will reimburse me for airport car parking, meals etc. They are also paying for the car rental in City B. But when it comes to rental car insurance for the 4-5 days, my company is not paying for insurance. Should I be providing them my car insurance? What's the recommended thing to do? When I get the car paperwork, Should I deny coverage? Will that make me responsible for any damages? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 11:48 AM PST I told the insurance person over the phone I wanted the insurance to start on the 25th (Today), but when I received my temporary card it says effective starting the 23rd. My old insurance was set to cancel on the 25th, when I planned to start the new one. Is this anything to worry about? Should I call back my new company and tell them or would that be a waste of time. I wasn't driving during those 2 days so I wouldn't have been at risk for an accident. [link] [comments] |
Tire damaged in car accident, one replacement will risk further damage to vehicle Posted: 25 Feb 2019 11:47 AM PST Some of you may recall my initial post about my recent car accident which was caused by an on duty FBI agent. Thankfully my vehicle was not considered totaled, however, there is significant damage that is taking quite a while to repair. Basically, because the FBI is self insured I am having to go through my own insurance (USAA) to get the vehicle repaired. Anything that my policy doesn't cover my insurance will not surrogate for and I will have to request for additional reimbursement. So, now to my current situation. The body shop found damage to one of my tires. My contact there is telling me that my insurance will only pay for the replacement of one tire. The issue is that this is a 4x4 vehicle and the other tires are worn. Putting one brand new tire on with worn ones will risk damaging the ABS system, 4x4, and traction control among other things. In my opinion because there is no way to get an equally worn tire, all the tires should be replaced. Even if it means that the other 3 are not covered for "new" I feel like I should get the ACV of the tires in their current condition so that there is not a risk of further damage to my vehicle. Of course, my logic may or may not actually line up with the rules. Having to purchase 3 new tires to match the 4th to avoid further damage is an expense that I would not have had if this accident had not happened. Does anyone have any input they can offer? Would this added expense be appropriate to add to this claim even if I have to put it on the list of additional expenses that I submit later to the FBI outside of my USAA coverage? TYIA! EDIT TO ADD: Shaving is not an option in my area. I spoke to the person at the body shop and it is not legal or not offered here. My only options are: new tire with old tires and risk major damage to a brand new vehicle OR fork out my own cash (which i would not have had to do if not for the accident) to get 3 more tires. This last part is why I think it would fall into something I should be able to get from the FBI as it is an expense caused by the accident that would have otherwise not have happened. Is there such thing as one day/short term commercial auto liability insurance? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 10:58 AM PST I'm trying to rent a van for my business to move from one building to another. We otherwise don't have or use our own vehicles so it would seem like a huge waste to get an annual policy. The rental company requires liability. [link] [comments] |

Water damage claim found more problems after mitigation. Posted: 25 Feb 2019 09:48 AM PST Long story short. House in Michigan, built in the 1950's. Freezing caused a pipe to leak, totaled the bathroom and the room below it. The mitigation is complete, ceiling and bathroom have been gutted. After removing the ceiling where all the pipes/drains are for the bathroom it can be seen that the original plumbers notched the joists all over the place, some of them 80-90% through. They clearly need to be repaired. Am I likely on the hook for the cost of joist repairs? I am still waiting to hear back from the adjuster after the contractor surveyed the property.
