Consumer app startups: how long did it take for you to get 1,000 users and how did you do it? Posted: 01 Jan 2019 09:29 PM PST I've heard the first 1,000 users are the hardest. Do you think that's true? Do you have any success stories to share? Any tips to share? I'm currently starting to market my app and it's definitely been a tough experience. It would be inspiring to hear the success stories and what it took to get there. Some suggestions I've read include:

Delivery costs from China to India too high Posted: 01 Jan 2019 08:33 PM PST Hello, I hope you're doing well. I have had a good idea in my mind about starting a startup in my country (India), selling a certain niche of product. The problem is, the shipping costs from Alibaba from India through DHL/FedEx are toooo damn high. So say I wanna try a sample of that certain product which costs like 2$, it will be impossible for me to do so as a budget startup because the delivery cost itself is 50$ for 1 kg which is too much, almost 3000 rupees for a 100 rupee product. I could maybe use China Post for it but none of the sellers are willing to do that for small packages like samples and it isn't going to work long-term. India being a country that does not spend much money on my niche of product, I can't afford to spend so much on delivery costs as it will increase the price of that certain product by a margin most people might avoid paying. How do I tackle this problem? Are there any arounds or third party shippers that will save me shipping costs? I am a university student and my budget is limited, so is my experience. Please help me work this through. The same product could be made in India but I couldn't find any legit factories making it so I'll have to do with China for now. The only other thing i could do locally is find somebody who can get me that raw material and find another manufacturer who can use that raw material to create the product. Do you think this would be better than importing from China? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2019 01:18 AM PST Is it possible for a business to be successful even with a social aspect to the business? Understand a social enterprise start-up like I am Soul Inc, it is difficult to find volunteers - much less balancing profit-making and giving back to the community. Would you consider a business model to be successful even if the start-up incurs losses during the month? Do also share your experiences here if you've had with social enterprises and any tips/advice in starting one for the long haul. Advice is much appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2019 12:28 AM PST i'm contemplating going full-time on my venture in February of this year. I have about 25K saved up and am wondering how this compares to other founders who have already made the jump. I know that everyone lives a different lifestyle so this question is relative, but interested in hearing your responses! also, did anyone move back home with their parents when they decided to pursue their startup full-time? how did that go? filling the rest of this post with this sentence to hit the 500 character minimum required for posting in this wonderful subreddit. How important is the security of software prototype? Posted: 01 Jan 2019 10:14 AM PST Hi, I'm working on a mobile payment app. Because of multiple regulations, I can't create the whole app without finding investors. That's why I decided to build a prototype. Now, is the security important during the creation of it, or should I simply focus on functionality. Also, I will be sending this prototype along with my application to YCombinator. One last thing, how much should the prototype contain? I mean, should it include basically all functionality of the app, or only the most important features? [link] [comments] |
