Thinking of getting into property management and need to get some input before I make the plunge. Posted: 25 Dec 2018 06:56 PM PST Hi, Currently I am a self employed commercial cleaner and I have been looking for a way to get out of the commercial cleaning and into something else. I have a friend who owns property and said " Why not property management for residential property? . He said he would help me as a sort of mentor. He suggested for me to find a couple of sixplexs and go from there. Personally, I feel its going to be harder than that. I think the people who will want me to manage their properties will expect me to work for close to nothing - simply hand off their problems to me. Another isssue is getting swammped with work all at the same time and not having the man power to deal with it. Are there any other pitfalls Im not thinking of here ? Any advice for a self starting entrepreneur ? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Fear & Anxiety Management...suggestions? Posted: 25 Dec 2018 11:10 PM PST A number of years ago I started working at an advertising agency. Then, 8 years later I bought it. That was 3 years ago and with all the changes that the industry is facing, I often get a little nervous that I'll have to cut staff or find myself with a considerably smaller business down the road. I'm sure that some of this is imposter syndrome, as I didn't start the business from scratch myself. How do you guys manage the fear of laying people off and feeling like even a small setback is your decent into failure? Rationally, I know I'm good, clients are overall happy and business is still strong but sometimes the fear gets in and still takes its toll. I'm worried this is starting to be a factor in my marriage and my overall work/life balance. Any suggestions? Books? Resources? [link] [comments] |

[QUESTION] Pricing out computer repairs, etc. Posted: 25 Dec 2018 12:14 PM PST I own a small business repairing computers, and other technological items (routers, security cameras, etc.) I'm currently pricing things as a flat, hourly rate, but I'm concerned I'm short changing myself. For example, my last customer had me check her computer for viruses, clean out temp files, connect her fax machine, and install a wireless router. I'm pretty fast at my job and got it all done in an hour, so she was simply billed for one hour. However, I'm feeling like I could have billed her the hourly rate for each one of those items. The problem I'm having is the impact this will have for my customers. Simply put, they wont get their computers fixed because it costs too much. Would love to hear from other PC repair companies here... [link] [comments] |
My boss wants me to create a dba in my name and I'm looking for some insight into this... Posted: 25 Dec 2018 07:23 PM PST So, long story short, my boss wants me to start acting as a broker for the business and he wants me to create a dba in my name that way it's getting paid to a business name rather than a person. Is this safe? Would it negatively affect me in any way? Hypothetically speaking, if I were to want to start my own business on day, would this stand in my way? Also, I wanna point out I've been working for my boss for many, many years and I trust him and this is nothing sketchy but also wanna make sure I'm not getting myself into anything that could one day hurt me by doing this whole business in my name thing. I don't know too much about dba's and don't even know if this is the right sub to post to so any info would be helpful! Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Advice on negotiating/interviewing for a job (not as W2) Posted: 25 Dec 2018 07:27 AM PST I recently had someone ask me for references when I was trying to help them build their project, and I realized I don't have anything that I can show. Despite being a developer since 2009. Mostly because my projects are for these big corporations with NDA signed, as well as mostly being involved at Back-end/api layer, with very limited front-end/UI exposure. I work remotely. Currently I have a job and I'm interviewing for another. But this time I was going to start a new company (maybe tax elect as S corp), and ask my current and/or employer to switch from W2 to 1099 or some kind of corp to corp contract. Do you think this would raise red flags for the new employer? What is the downside of having someone on a contract vs them being employed, if you're happy with their work. I want to do this(corp to corp or 1099) for 3 reasons :
One more question for the end is how to deal with health insurance (I m in USA), obviously with 1099 you're responsible for your taxes and insurance. I assume would want to charge more because that's something you'd be getting with your W2. Thanks for your advice! [link] [comments] |
Multiple Vehicle Purchases NO FINANCING Posted: 25 Dec 2018 03:53 PM PST I have been asked to find very specific vehicles for the company where I perform procurement. My manager, who is very intelligent and by the book, uses the same dealership for all vehicles. We do not buy used vehicles because sometimes they can exhibit problems after a few months. Downtime for warranty work isn't acceptable in the case of a used vehicle. Since dealerships are basically 3rd party dealers I was wondering if there could potentially be a cheaper way to purchase 2 or 3 vehicles where financing is not involved. [link] [comments] |

Looking for a mentor in the online boutique niche Posted: 25 Dec 2018 05:07 PM PST Hello! I'm currently in the process of building an online boutique. What tools can help a website to decrease churn rate and increase conversion? Posted: 25 Dec 2018 12:19 PM PST Being a developer, I've been lucky to build dozens of products over the last several years. Mostly they were my own side projects, but some of them were websites that I got paid to build. We all know that building a website is just a tiny part of any successful online business. There are many other components every entrepreneur has to get right. Internet companies use various marketing strategies to drive traffic to their website, but getting people to sign up with their product is normally a big challenge. I've been lucky with that part as one of my last products has few paying customers. My main problem is keeping my existing customers satisfied and engaged and also converting the traffic that I attract through SMM. I have installed Intercom (https://www.intercom.com/) which is helping a ton in communicating with my potential and existing clients. I've also installed Announce Kit ((https://announcekit.app/) to announce updates and news to my users. I am still looking for other ways that can help me scale my business. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate your feedback and advice 🙌 [link] [comments] |
How to find students/customers? Posted: 25 Dec 2018 11:20 AM PST I'm currently in a state that has for-profit learning institutions and the qualifications to achieve accreditation are merely offering classes for a specific amount of hours. (And a few other federal requirements we have already achieved or are currently working on.) We have a specilized teacher dedicated to the course. (Background checked and verified) A location to hold classes in a secured building. A schedule and lesson plan (built by the hired teacher) What we are struggling with is finding students. We've done paid advertisements on as many social media outlets as we can. We've already invited students from the industry as well as holding preview classes to test our curriculum as well as use it to hook some potential registers. Anything I am missing?
