Potential employer wants to see sales numbers

    Posted: 07 May 2018 06:09 AM PDT

My second job after graduating in 2016 is in sales, where I'm currently at. Long story short, I am looking again and I have an interview Wednesday and they want to see my numbers. I have very little sales numbers to show .

The industry I'm in has a very long sales cycle, 6-12 months. I really only started selling at the start of the new year once I finished my "training". I have had success setting appointments, getting through to decision makers, quoting, etc. I have trial material out at prospect's plants but they won't run it! Problem is most of the time we're not price competitive. We're a custom manufacturer, so our selling points are we can make exactly what you want in small quantities, deliver it fast, and great service.

How can I show that I've had success in my current sales role with little numbers to prove it? Would I sound like I am making excuses if I tell them a lot of the reaso why I can't close business is because we're not price competitive?

This new job I'm looking at is an outside sales role selling packaging, gloves, etc etc to grocery stores and food processors. So I'm assuming its a whole different type of sale cycle than what I'm in now.

PS. There is no unsolicited quoting in this industry. You need to find out what the customer needs/ wants and at which volume. Hardly ever do prospects divulge the current material they use.

Its noon, and I've been working since 6 AM hows your Mondays?

    Posted: 07 May 2018 09:03 AM PDT

Just curious how everyone does their mondays. For me (b2b sales, software/advertising) Mondays are my most important day. I woke up at 5:30 AM and shit, shower, shave and I'm working preparing for my week. I build my call lists, prepare for any afternoon appointments and hop on our Monday conference call at 8:30. I dial for dollars between 9 AM and 11:00 and I finish prepping/take a break until about 1 PM and then head out for appointments. If I don't have appointments I dial more dollars in the afternoon as well

    How do your mondays go?

Newish SaaS sales reps, how did your interviews go?

    Posted: 07 May 2018 12:01 PM PDT

I'm very nervous about the interviewing process, I simply don't have a lot to talk about. I'm currently in a sales position but don't feel that I have a lot of responsibilities or results to speak about, my position is kinda niche and the sales results wouldn't have be easily understood by someone outside of the industry. My numbers are also "classified" so I can't just print them out and share.

Were you grilled? Did the interview feel intense?

How was the "tone" of the interview?

What was the format of the interview? Did you have to role play? Did you do a practice call or pitch? Did you have to pitch them the current product you sell?

Were you expected to be very familiar with the product you were applying to sell? Beyond that of a normal person?

    Audacious Executive Relationship Builders

    Posted: 07 May 2018 09:17 AM PDT

Question for all my sales peeps out there! What are some good ideas for audacious and bold prospecting activities targeting an executive for a strategic sale? I say strategic because we aren't looking to open and close a lead on the same day - This sales cycle is a longer one, 6-9 months. We sell marketing software and have confirmed with this executive's front-line managers that this is a need for their organization, but we're striking out in getting the prospect's executive to meet with us to help put together a demand strategy and buy-off. We have the resources to go big, but where would YOU use those resources if it meant a 7-figure commission at the end of the road?

Does this sound like a sales profession choice?

    Posted: 07 May 2018 07:09 AM PDT

    Hello,

I wrote this in the renewable energy forum and someone said that what I said sounded like a sales related profession. Do you think so? What do you think it sounds like, if it didn't?

    Need help making a beginning...

    Hey guys,

So I've been thinking about finding a job in renewable energy, and here's the thing, I've already got a bachelor's in Electronics and Communication because my dad wanted to do it (it's a thing with my entire generation in my country, India, messed up, but the truth), and I didn't really study that hard because the lecturers sucked, and it was all just a "business", get an engineering degree, get an IT job, etc, etc.

So I reached this place where I had to stop, after 5 years of just facing the consequences of my father's choices, and I have no clue what to do. Now, I have a penchant for communication, I love talking to, and working with people, handling situations, and just making sure the job gets done. I just took the Academic IELTS a few weeks back and I got a good result I think (7.5 overall with 7+ in each). So I can apply for decent universities, I think. But I don't know what to apply for.

For instance I enrolled in an online course on coursera in green sustainable cities (was thinking about urban planning, then), but I couldn't sit through the lectures, I mean I am all for technical stuff, and I appreciate the importance of technical stuff, but I would rather do something about it, and notwithstanding the fact that my bachelor's basically makes me inelligible for master's in urban planning and the sort, which actually kinda makes sense, I also find it difficult to sit through these things, because I have to start over with all the basics, which I should have done in my bachelor's which I could have if...

So, I don't know what to do, I love working in this field, I think it's meaningful and important, and I love working with people, and I want to do something.

What would you recommend I do?

I have no clue, where to _____

    What do I do?

I'm 28 and jobless, quit my job 2 years ago to process some personal stuff and figure out where to go, and I am clueless. But I have some things going... What do I do?

    Thanks for your comments!

    Cheers!

I'm new at this and I'm selling health insurances by the phone

    Posted: 06 May 2018 01:47 PM PDT

    Hey guys.

To be straight to the point: I got a job selling health insurances, by the phone, to people that doesn't expect our calls. Everything is made by the phone: the introduction; asking some personal questions (age, how much people leave in their house); our insurance explanation; trying to create a need; close the deal, by asking their personal ID identification and bank IBAN.

I'm new to this. I never sold anything and this is my 1st job in this area. Even tho my supervisor told me I'm really good at making arguments, avoid the potential client objections, etc., I find it difficult because, even tho I can easily make people hear my presentation, sometimes I can't close the deal. Some people say "oh, call me in a few days and I will talk to my family and we'll see!". But we've to sell when the person is there, not later because it gives time to make people change their mind. That's my difficulty.

Our insurance doesn't have fidelization and the clients only pay the first month during the following one, and they can even give up from our insurance before, they just need to make the call. They receive the papers at home, but 1st they've to give some ID information and the bank IBAN. It has been hard, since I'm new to this and only have a few days, to make the transition from presentation to close the deal. I know I can do better, and that's what upsets me.

    Any tips?

    Job opportunities?

    Posted: 07 May 2018 01:22 AM PDT

    Good morning, /r/sales.

I'm starting at uni in the fall to pursue a degree in. BA (business administration). I want to work in sales, but i don't know what kind of high-end salesjob there are (atleast in Norway). I have 3 years experience in cold calling over the phone, selling newspapers, to private and B2B. Making around 200$ a day. Was a top dog last year made around 35$/hr. I like this job and the enviroment, but it seems like they wont promote me. Currently switching to the Oslo-Office. I want to improve my sales-skills, but i feel like I've reached some sorts of stagnation. Really hungry for some other jobs.

    So a summary;

    • Future degree in BA

    • 20 Years old

    • 3 years experience in sales (cold calling) and i'm going to continue in this job while i study.

    You guys have any tips?

Is it typical for accounting firms to hire specialized sales people? We're looking for ways to broaden our client base but not sure which kind of profile we should be looking for. Any ideas?
