How to shut up during the call and stop using filler words? Posted: 03 May 2018 06:07 AM PDT I'm new to sales and just learning the ropes in last couple months. I am cycling through lot of leads in the day and mostly hitting VMs but getting few connects. I'm listening to all of my calls at the end of the day and realizing 2 biggest problems.
Any pointers, strategies are highly appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 May 2018 11:18 AM PDT Yesterday I had the opportunity to speak with someone who was looking for their first SDR role in the tech industry. I started going through his background, his accomplishments, etc and everything sounded great. He was energetic, passionate and seemed like a good fit for an SDR role. It struck me as odd that he was not able to move forward past the first and second round in a lot of his interviews for an entry level role. So I did what all good salesman do when they cannot find a pain, keep digging. Nearing the end of our conversation, I asked him how he closes his interview. I am paraphrasing here but it was something like this: " I really enjoyed speaking with you today and I feel like I learned more about how W company does X, Y & Z. Look forward to speaking with you again!" That was it. I shared with him that this is one of the biggest mistakes you can make in a sales interview, not closing your interviewer for their endorsement and outlining clear next steps. When you sell a very technical product, you are most likely going to be bookends on the call. By that I mean, your biggest responsibilities are going to be starting and ending the call. So as a hiring manager, if you cannot even close me in an interview for my endorsement, how can I expect you to close a Director of Software(or whoever your champion/economic buyer is) for thousands of dollars of their budget. I suggested adding this one line at the end of his close (time will tell if it helps his interview process): " I really enjoyed speaking with you today and I feel like I learned more about how W company does X, Y & Z. With that being said, is there anything that I may have said, or that I may have not said, that would prevent you from giving me your endorsement and moving me forward in the process?" After that, if he gives you an objection then go into your model to handle the objection. If you are not familiar with the Feel, Felt, Found strategy, please look it up before you try to handle another objection. 1) Acknowledge the objection 2) Empathize with the customer 3) Address the objection 4) Confirm the objection is handled I shared all of this because if you are just starting out, you don't know what you don't know. Next time at the end of the interview, get them on your side and close them! [link] [comments] |
Not tracking my commissions almost cost me $11,000. Posted: 02 May 2018 07:21 PM PDT My wife and I contract out our sales/management services to a painting company. Awesome company, we are in the process of buying it out from the couple that founded it about 30 years ago. They are amazing people, but their systems are pretty rough. We get paid pretty well so we are definitely negligent in regularly tracking our sales versus commissions paid. On a hunch we decided to go back and compare our sales ledgers to our commissions ledgers and found over $11,000 of commissions that are owed and haven't been paid. It's like Christmas in May! Retail Sales Contests for Employees Posted: 03 May 2018 07:45 AM PDT Hey Everyone! I'm a Outside Sales Rep for a major cycling brand. I work exclusively with Brick and Mortar locations. I'm looking for creative and exciting ways to promote employees to sell my brand(s). This is permitted by the stores to drive sales. Generally I do sales contests to seed product to an employee who sells the most, but looking for ideas to make it more interesting. Let me know what you've got! Thanks [link] [comments] |
Do sales suffer the apex fallacy concept? Posted: 03 May 2018 07:58 AM PDT My friend recently started working at Comcast in inside sales, and he often talks about how people in his department making $150k to $200k. He has a Bachelor's degree in business and aims to make $150k in a couple years in sales. Here I am going through a PhD program in engineering (got my Master's already) and realistically, I can only make 80k in R&D. So, is it true at on average/norm, that sales make this much? Posted: 03 May 2018 07:11 AM PDT Hello All, Recently I discussed changing my job title, which everyone is on board for. When I first started I was a Sr Account Executive, which was great, but now I'm almost exclusively handling Accounts (probably 70-80%) and on top of that I'm doing social media and marketing. I'm allowed (within reason) to create my new job title. Should have some level of Seniority with it but also encapsulate the Account Management/Sales side of things but also ideally the marketing and social media too. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Suggestions on how to improve my flow and language. Posted: 03 May 2018 10:30 AM PDT Hey r/sales, I have a pretty bad problem with fillers, forgetting words, and a little stuttering here and here— I also have the vocabulary of a vulgar 3 year old. So... How the fuck do I fix this? I was thinking of putting myself into Toastmasters or trying out some of that on the spot comedy sketch shit (can't think of the word [just remembered it's called improv]). I know it's hurting my ability to build trust and credibility, so I'd really like some practical advice on how to improve. Thanks y'all. [link] [comments] |
SaaS sales question... how to sell a subscription service? Posted: 03 May 2018 06:37 AM PDT To anyone with experience in the Saas space - how do you sell a subscription model to potential clients? It seems like quite a large committment, just wondering if anyone had suggestions/advice [link] [comments] |

New job offer - 100k base but first 100k in commision pays for the seat. Is this normal? Posted: 03 May 2018 07:58 AM PDT New job offer that is 100k carrying a million dollar quota. The first 100k you close you do not get commished on. Anything after that is 10%. I've been doing sales for a few years at a few different companies and have never heard of "paying for your seat" Anyone have any experience with this or just general thoughts. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 May 2018 04:10 AM PDT Yesterday marks the first day of starting my corporate sales career as a Recruitment Consultant. I come from the fitness industry selling gym memberships. For those of you who have been successful or unsuccessful recruitment consultants, what is some advice you wish you had when you started the job? [link] [comments] |
Daily team email - how to do it right? Posted: 02 May 2018 06:57 PM PDT I'm going to start taking on a new leadership role. I know a lot of people in our company that are team leads have their own format of sending out daily emails. Whether that's recap, pushing for goals/targets, contests, the works. My question is: How can I nail one? If it's daily. Is there a best way to present KPI? Thoughts/rules/etiquette when presenting team numbers vs. individuals? Best practices all around? Anyone got a good template/format? It's a large tech/internet sales company. Lots of things in place to track etc. It'll be my job to present it to the team in either a daily email or in our chat. I am just looking for advice mostly to come out of the gate swinging and to really help my team stay on track and to motivate. So any and all advice about daily motivators and best practices in general would be great! [link] [comments] |
HELP - Junior SaaS BDR having some struggles. Posted: 03 May 2018 06:52 AM PDT Hi guys, Love this sub and would appreciate some feedback.. I'm a Junior BDR (been at this child-care software start up for 5 months now) and am having some problems. First and foremost, I got zero training or time when I came on board to learn about our product and competitors. I don't blame this as the reason for not being successful as I had and have the ability to research on my own. However, it would've been helpul to be put through a gauntlet of training, seeing as this job is brand new for the company. I'll start by saying, I was hired because of my outgoing personality and prior experience to prospect (I was a Mortgage Broker). My bosses (2 people) have never done sales before and for the first couple months, we just played around with cold e-mailing but it never worked. So, here's what is currently happening - I am calling 100 prospects per day via the list that we purchased. I basically call, ask for the Preschool Director and state the following: "Hi there, I was just calling in looking to speak with the Preschool Director. \*most of the time the Director is the one answering the phone*** Awesome, what was your name? Hi [[name]] I don't want to waste your time but I was calling in looking for an e-mail. My name is [[name]] with [[SaaS company]] and I wanted to shoot over some information as well as a link to a free 30 day trial of [[SaaS company]], would this be okay with you?" 70% of people will say yes, send info over. AT THIS POINT, I am then able to ask if they use any existing software which helps me qualify the lead. So, I then plug their information into my CRM and e-mail them a few sentences about [[SaaS company]] as well as a link to our free trial. So far, I'd say within the last 45 business days, I've been able to set up 15 demos and 25 free trials. These are handled by another Rep as my job is to fill up the pipleine. HOWEVER, we are not making sales via outbound tactics. I've been assured by my bosses that if this doesn't work, there will be a job here for me regardless but I am set on becoming great and making this happen. Can I get some feedback from you guys? What can I do better? Does our simple process of cold calling suck? Please, help. ps. I am in Canada. [link] [comments] |
Considering hiring my first Sales Rep, what questions should I ask Posted: 03 May 2018 06:23 AM PDT I own an MSP (Outsourced IT) and it's about high time we got serious about our sales process. I've been hitting up some networking events and doing some marketing but lead generating is not my thing. Closing and presentation I'm good at at but the small talk, mostly no's are killing me. I'm considering hiring a full-time sales person and want to make a good hire, have an adequate compensation structure that's fair but keeps them hunting. Would you start with inside or outside, what type of a commission structure would you suggest and why, and what type of questions should I be asking these guys that can demonstrate results? I don't want to be the owner firing the first rep after a year of non-sales or the one that's breathing down their neck for results day one either. I'd love to hear your advice [link] [comments] |
Interview Onsite @ Google Austin Posted: 03 May 2018 06:08 AM PDT Hello Sellers- I've got a day of on-site interviews with Google in Austin, looking for an tips, suggestions, things to expect, etc. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
MileIQ is fantastic for mileage reporting Posted: 02 May 2018 07:14 PM PDT Hey all you road warriors out there! If you have to report business/personal mileage or if you are planning to itemize for your taxes next year, I highly recommend MileIQ. No plug in for your car required. Uses your phone to detect driving conditions. Really easy to categorize and add info to drives. Also allows for easy exports to report out however you need to. I found it a few months back-it comes free with my office 365 subscription. It also syncs to your account, so if you leave your company and start at a new one, it loads up quickly. I have no affiliation with the company other than I just logged and categorized my last 1500 miles/ 130 drives in under 5 minutes. [link] [comments] |
A SaaS idea that sells like hotcakes? Posted: 03 May 2018 04:37 AM PDT Hello apologies if this is the worng sub, I'm just trying to contact with some sales-orientated people. I'm just wondeirng if any of you can think of a gap in a market. Is there some kind of SaaS that if it exsisted would solve a major problem for your clients and be easy to sell, because it almost sells itself? I am selling nothing right now so there is no target market. [link] [comments] |
I need guidance and perspective, please Posted: 02 May 2018 04:57 PM PDT Hi guys, I'm in need of guidance in perspective. I just moved to the US (South Florida) from Canada (I'm from AlbertA and I'm married to a US citizen). I'm going to receive my work authorization in a month or 2. In the meantime, I'm working remotly (contractor) for this German payment processor I basically receive leads from people who want to open an account. They have to go through an interview before we open their account. These are generaly warm leads and I'm killin it. Top performer for like 2 years straight. I'm getting more and more frustrated tho. They pay me 35.000 euros a year without benefits and I don't get commission. I can open 50 accounts a month, I don't get any extra money. However, they put a lot of pressure on me to open more and more accounts and I also have a quota. I'm good at what I do, but sales can be stressefull. I'm okay with it being stressefull as long as I can make more money. I'm very driven and I feel castrated. Now it's just a matter of time before I join the Florida job market and this is the situation:
I was wondering how's the job market in South Florida? I'm ready to hustle hard. I checked Linkedin and the salary are kind of low tho. Is that normal for South Florida? Thank you, [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 May 2018 04:11 AM PDT Does anyone work for a major food distributor? I am really interested in trying to land an internship or entry level job in sales/analysis with a business such as US Foods or Sysco. Would appreciate any advice offered. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 May 2018 06:53 PM PDT I work for a major ice cream distributor and the boss is pushing us to move our low calorie ice cream into schools. How would I even go about doing this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 May 2018 06:45 PM PDT Since I now know a CRM is what I need I'm editing this post to be a bit more specific with my findings / needs This is my first sales job so I'm really open to other solutions as I'm not sure what exists. We use chain emails for pretty much everything with very specific rules for who is included on each iteration of the email chain with HUNDREDS of them flying by every day. It's getting out of hand. We recently hired more callers and have upped the amount of leads being distributed x 4. The callers are having trouble keeping up with what they've already seen or is waiting for additional information. Since y'all have pointed out I need a CRM I've been researching them but found they are mostly contact info oriented with a bunch of tools that may over-complicate our process. Here's what I need: I need a CRM that allows us to store leads that are mostly image and hyperlink based and editable descriptions. Something like a word processor oriented CRM that possibly even previews the documents in the overall lead board with automation / statistic / notification / timer actions. [link] [comments] |
Knock some sense into me (car sales) Posted: 03 May 2018 12:55 AM PDT I'll try to make this short. I work at a furniture store in a warehouse, there is a path to becoming a salesman, but by the looks of it I won't have chance for at least a year. I really want to get my foot in the door of sales. So I turned to car sales, could someone give me the cold, hard truth of what it's like to sell cars? The company I'm looking at pays $11/hr with overtime, and there is 25% commission of the profit after you break 10.5k in profit. There's 70 salesmen and they sell 500+ cars a month. Successful insurance salesmen and women: how to increase my network and generate leads? Posted: 02 May 2018 12:55 PM PDT I am interviewing for a company as an outside sales representative with a focus on life and health insurance. I have not accepted an offer yet. I have worked at sales jobs before and I have cold-called but never have to develop/generate my own leads. The sales jobs I've had are also for specific products like laboratory equipment. So, insurance salespeople, who did you call first when you were just starting your career? How did you increase your network? And any tips for someone who wants to work in insurance?
