With the knowledge you know now, what industry / companies would you work for if you started your career over?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 11:06 AM PST

    Hello all,

I'm currently a student who is looking to get into a sales role post-graduation in May. By May, I will have a year of BDR/SDR experience as well as a degree in professional selling (if that helps at all).

I understand that I will most likely have to start at the bottom and work my way up, but I eventually want to move to an AE or outside sales within a few years.

With that being said, what companies/industries would you tell your past self to break into? I defiantly know tech would be an answer but what specific field of tech or SaaS software?

Also if anybody reading this is in a hiring position, DM me I would love to talk.

SaaS AEs, do you have residual income?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 12:50 PM PST

When you close a deal, and let's say it's a subscription that brings in annual recurring revenue, do you get another commission check off each renewal?

I'm a BDR for a SaaS company but I haven't been told how exactly the AEs are getting compensated. I just focus on filling their pipeline.

How flexible is your role and how long did it take you to get it?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 09:23 AM PST

I work a M-F 40 hour work week right now as a junior AE.

Anyone work 4 days a week? Or make their own hours?

I'd like to eventually put myself in a position to have more flexibility in my schedule.

    Tell me it's possible!

Anyone know anything about WestGen Lending?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 01:08 PM PST

This will be cold calling brokers for secondary financing. I know the manger over there and a few friends have started. Have not been in the mortgage business but looking for new opportunities. First 3 months is salary, then goes to commission basically. Thank You

    Sales rep structure?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 12:45 PM PST

I'm the only sales rep for our company and we've decided to add 2 new representatives. We've been trying to figure out at what point a sales representative is able to "claim" a lead as theirs so that no one else can call on it. My leadership has decided that it will be the person who called the lead first. Is this normal? What kind of structure does your organization use for this process?

To the sales pros that are on their feet more than their seat…what brand of dress shoes allow you to stand longer?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 07:44 PM PST

I know many swear by Cole Haan. Anyone have a better suggestion? Only looking at comfort. Not which shoe can be re built the best.

I've owned many Ecco and JM. Anyone had Allen Edmond?

    Need some cold calling help…

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 02:36 AM PST

TL/DR: Can anyone point me in the right direction for training or courses on effective cold-calling methodology? I want to know how to make an executive level impact from the moment someone picks up the phone or reads the subject of my email.

Context: So four months ago I was hired as an industry specific Senior AE for a major SaaS company. I have a background in digital adtech and media sales. But I have never really done cold calling, was never a BDR, and only recently learned what an SDR is. TBH, the thought of it gives me anxiety. Half the time I wonder how I even ended up in sales…yet here I am.

While my current role focuses mainly on working with territory (non-verticalized) ADs and AMs on upselling current customers to an industry specific solution, my manager also wants me to spend 2-3 days/week cold-calling. He feels that our team spends too much time internally coordinating potential deals when we need to be attacking the market more aggressively. I'm fully onboard with the plan, I just don't know how and I need help. But I'm afraid to approach my colleagues for help because I'm supposed to be a "Senior level AE". I'm trying to be self-sufficient here but don't know where to start. Not because there's a lack of resources, but more because there's too much. I'm responsible for a massive region, but given my industry and territory, there aren't unlimited numbers of companies to practice on. So I feel additional pressure to "get it right the first time".

Can anyone point me in the right direction for training or courses on effectual cold-calling methodology? I want to know how to make an executive level impact from the moment someone picks up the phone or reads the subject of my email.

BTW, massive respect to BDRs and SDRs. I am in awe of your grit, resilience, and ability to speak to client specific needs in an impactful manner. Hats off to you guys, gals, and non-binaries. You define the grind.

Question about SaaS Enterprise Sales Manager salary

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 05:42 AM PST

I'm currently a strategic AE with a $300k OTE 50/50 split. I'm in early conversations about switching to management and managing a team of Enterprise AEs (still SaaS)- what does competitive comp look like for these roles? (Glassdoor is generally wrong about salaries in my experience so I don't trust it) - btw the title would technically be regional VP

    Presentation Advice

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 08:20 AM PST

I am a recent uni graduate and am 6 months into a sales job. I am getting on great with my team and excelling at certain tasks, mainly research orientated roles and written communication.

Unfortunately, where I fall short is when it comes to present. I am not sure why (perhaps nerves?), I am just unable to communicate my ideas effectively. Whats most frustrating is I am confident in my knowledge and can comfortably explain my thoughts in a casual environment, but as soon as a slide deck is introduced and I am stood at the front of a room, my brain turns to mush.

Any advice for improving presentation skills?

    Thanks

    I feel like quitting

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 05:33 PM PST

And I haven't even started my job yet. I know that I have to fail before I can succeed but how can ensure my own success when I am desperate for money. I don't have even $1,000 to my name and I start my job in two days. My car is literally on the verge of shutting down and I cannot succeed at this job if it requires me to go door to door. I just want to live a different life than ever before.

    Core value

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 07:12 AM PST

I've been interviewing with a leading startup for a while now. They have a rich culture that aligns with my values and will inspire me to become the best I can. They wholeheartedly accept your authentic self and strive to edify the linchpin of your being.

For an upcoming interview, I've been asked to choose a core value that I struggle to identify with. This question left me clueless. It seems like a delicately crafted question to exclude applicants from their palace of integrity.

Core values: Customer-centricity, Seflessness, Action over thought, Outcome-driven

I'd appreciate your thoughts and ways to present it deftly.

Lead Generation for social media influencer

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 04:36 AM PST

Hello All! It's my first time here. Please forgive my mistakes if any. So, my client is a Social Media Influencer specifically into Tech and I handle his inbox and reach out to new companies for collaboration. So far I was only reaching out to companies that he had made a list of in Notion pads. That list is about to be extinguished. So, any help where can I find more tech companies? Any strategies that I should follow? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

    Home improvement sales

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 12:41 AM PST

    Hey everybody,

I know this forum seems to revolve HEAVILY around SaaS but I have a different opportunity. Company called Power Home Remodeling reached out about a "Design Consultant" gig. Essentially a 1 call close roll in home. It's 100% commission but they offer a month of full training etc etc. Here's the issue:

Folks on /sales and /homeimprovement seem super put off by this company and I'm not sure why. Glassdoor, indeed, linkedin reviews by current workers all seem to be overwhelmingly positive. Can anybody that has worked for them shine some light on what I'm getting myself into?? For context I live alone with 6 months savings, no kids or wife.

    Should I take the leap?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2022 12:27 AM PST

Heading into final rounds of interviewing for a VP role at a well funded and fast growing start up. Id be responsible for getting my region off the ground. My base alone would be pretty close to my OTE in my current role.

2 things that are making me doubt the move:

1.) I'd be transitioning from media sales to SAAS which feels like a huge departure for me having 10+ years in media only. Although I'm completely open to getting out of media, I just worry I won't love SAAS. It's not as sexy and I'm really well versed in media

2.) Ive been in management for 8 years but love independent sales roles for the flex. I'm currently a sales director w no direct reports and my work life balance is stellar, but my opportunity to make $$$ this year is minimal due to account changes at my current role.

I think I could kick ass and I'd get a title and pay bump, but there is always a risk involved making a move like this and the fact I'm thinking this hard makes me wonder if I'm ready for a big change since my tolerance for risk is low at the moment. Wwyd?

Is there a morale obligation in sales

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 08:12 PM PST

Personally I feel like anyone who gets into sales needs to have the intent to try and help customers (to a point) and that whenever you get a sale you should be proud to tell someone.

I could just be a naive idealist but, I see the reputation car sales people get and how the gurus are all about the positivity. I have even sold a car (kinda trying not to) that was honestly a peice of junk especially for the price and I still feel like crap over it. I even left the dealership for it.

I've also noticed my close rate go up like crazy the intentional I am about try to solve the customers problems.
