What happens to insurance between jobs?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2022 05:53 AM PST

Long story short I have an appointment with my PCP in two weeks but my last day at my current job is a few days before then. I don't start my new job until a week after the appointment. Do I just use my old/current job insurance or reschedule?

25% auto premium increase because of “medical expenses and repair costs”

    Posted: 14 Jan 2022 08:02 AM PST

I just got my renewal from Geico for my auto policy in Charlotte NC…. It's near a 25% increase (about $400/6months to $500) and I've had no incidents or claims. When I called they stated that it was due to the increasing Medical and vehicle repair costs.

Is this normal or extremely high?

    Insurance canceled

    Posted: 14 Jan 2022 06:12 AM PST

Hey, my car insurance company that rhymes with Aiko all of the sudden canceled my coverage. I actually had a bundle with them, including renter's. It looks like they only terminated the car coverage, citing multiple accidents I had that they had to service over a few years.

I'm not even asking "can they do it" bc obviously they can—they just did.

Question: are insurance companies and/or some other agency like DMV sharing that information with each other?

Meaning, I'm hoping I can get insurance through a different company—what would you recommend I do to a. get coverage at all and b. get decent coverage w/o high premiums? NY City

    Thank you!

State farm has been giving me inaccurate information thinking about switching to Allstate.

    Posted: 14 Jan 2022 07:03 AM PST

When I first got my car back in 2014 State farm was the cheapest and affordable option for me as a first time driver. I have been with them since with 0 issues until 14 days ago. I decided to get a new car and sent them the VIN for quotes and over the course or 2 weeks I got multiple different numbers "this person said this, this person said that, etc.." the first quote was 130 a month full coverage then that changed days later to 220 then again to 190 and again to 150 and 2 days ago to 170 and now 183... this is getting crazy. Apparently the car cannot be found in the system which was the reason for the 130 -> 220 change I said idc just send the dealership the information because I will be going there tomorrow to get the car (this was on December 30th btw, went to the dealer the 31st). I go to the dealer they did not get anything from the insurance company I then had to call the customer service line and spoke to a random person and they said "Idk why the number was 220 -> 190 because I am seeing here 150" I said whatever just send me proof of insurance for this car please I just want to get out of this dealership. I got the email and left with the car. I called 2 days ago to ask what this weird tiny squared device was that arrived in the mail and they said it was sent by mistake but you can save 20$ which will put you at 150... I said hold it what is my monthly bill and she says 170 then saying your premium is high because of a ticket back in 2018. This was never stated on the previous quotes or numbers I was given. Now I checked on the site and my price a month is 183. I called allstate and I did not know what my coverage was to begin with such as limits of liability for different coverages. Allstate quadrupled the coverages literally every single one and the price is at 143 a month for the car. Is there something hidden here that I am missing that I should be worried about? Just seems odd how I am going to be getting more coverage from Allstate and the price is cheaper. Would this be the right move to do? I have heard good and bad things about allstate but for that price for more coverage it makes sense to make the switch. How would you rate State Farm vs Allstate? Allstate also said they cannot see a ticket under my mv record and they said that tickets do not come up on their report after 3 years. I never had an issue with state farm until these past 2 weeks and the inaccuracy worries me. and after seeing what my current coverages are and the allstate agent explaining every single one is making me want to switch. Thoughts on this?

Already rated me for an closed PD/open BI claim, will it affect me again after finalized?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2022 06:35 AM PST

Texas. I rear ended someone about a year and a half ago. My fault obviously. Took my foot off the brakes distracted while waiting at a stop light and hit someone's brand new BMW. Felt awful. In any case my ins paid about 3k to fix his car and then he claimed injury with an attorney. Lizard insurance co obviously skyrocketed my rates for two renewals after that but then lowered them a tad this renewal since we are moving further away from my at fault claim (I guess?).

According to my clue report, the PD claim was closed fairly quickly and of course the BI claim stayed open. Now this week the lawyer sent a demand letter for 104k but of course he's such a nice guy he'll take my policy limit of 100k and my insurance adjuster advised me they made an offer well within my policy limits but did not disclose the amount. My friend is a PI attorney and he took a look at the crash details and demand letter and told me the ins prolly had a good laugh at their demand number. Thinks their medical bills are nuts (40k) and that they will be lucky to get that much. In any case…

My question is will my premiums again go up (or non renewed) after they pay out this additional loss for the PI claim or are they done dinging me for it?

Is Taking a potential client to dinner considered rebating?

If I offer to take a potentially new client to dinner, coffee, cocktails, a round of golf, etc is this considered rebating? I hate having to bring them into my boring office or over the phone when truly personal relationships work so much better. Where does the law draw the line (I'm a very new agent btw. Just passed the license exam)

Can I just keep the insurance payout and not use it to repair my car?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 07:21 PM PST

This payout would not be coming from my insurance. It'll be from the other guys insurance that damaged my car.

My car still has a loan/lien with Chase. The other insurance would be giving me the money directly to me to my checking account. Once I accept the money, do I need to show proof to any anybody that repairs were done?

Edit- I forgot to mention, I plan on selling my car to get out of my loan, even while damaged.

    Unlicensed car accident.

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 06:40 PM PST

My brother took my mothers car out last night without her knowledge and got into an accident. He has a provisional license. He's only allowed to drive to work. Which he was not. The car was totaled and the driver he hit went to the hospital complaining of back pain. Is it possible her insurance company would deny the claim because he's an unlisted driver with no license?

Is it hard to get fired from insurance companies?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 06:24 PM PST

I started a job with an auto insurance company back in August as a claims adj. Big company, they pay well and i enjoy the work. During training though, our trainers always told us that we do have metrics to meet on the job. I really stressed about this. I have a buddy whos been with the company for 4 years, he told me to not worry about it and that its so hard to get fired from the company. He said "you have to either not show up to work or do something illegal on the job. People make usual mistakes here and there and can always be coached on that." I mean is he right? Even my manager told me that i have job security with the company and have nothing to worry about. Which really put my mind at ease.

    Auto insurance question. (Male 17)

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 09:09 PM PST

Hey guys I got my license abt 1 year ago give or take and I live in Minnesota. First time I tried to get a quote for my insurance they quoted me abt 600 a month for full coverage and 300 for liability alone ( the insurance quote was under my name and not my parents) I ended up totaling that car and only had liability. Then I had to get a new car and I got insurance under my dads name. I was quoted 700 for 6 months (seems pretty reasonable for me at least) then I recently got in another minor accident. While I was backing up I hit another car and it resulted in a claim being filed. I tried to get a new insurance quote under my name today and they are asking me 6000$ in premium or 1048$ a month. My question is how much do you think my insurance will go up by if I'm under my dads name? And will it every decrease if so how long? Will my dads insurance price go up as well since I hit the other car while I was under his insurance? For people wondering I live in Minnesota and my insurer is progressive. Thank you for reading this guys

Working Auto Liability for a major carrier - is a CPCU worth it?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 03:02 PM PST

I realized a few months ago that I love insurance and I'm kinda hooked. I am thinking long-term, would getting my CPCU be jumping the gun if I'm only working auto liability?

I enjoy working claims and I like cars and management here so I don't need to move to a new role but I feel like compensation is limited and want to open some options for my future in this biz.

Obviously getting it improves my career, but would I seem like a sucker or a douche for getting it now? What about AIC? I will say I have only been handling claims for a year and I know there are experience requirements.

I guess what I'm asking for is some career advice - if I like my job, how can I make more money doing it? Do the letters matter?

Recently Gave Birth; Question is About Implications of Changing Healthcare Plans during Special Enrollment (PA - U.S.)

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 04:21 PM PST

Hi all. I gave birth to our first child on 12/27. I'm on my husband's insurance through his work.

Prior to the birth, I called and asked our provider how insurance works for newborns and they said the baby would be covered under my insurance for the first 31 days (til 1/27). Well, when my husband called his HR department today for our special enrollment period they said the effective date of the new insurance would be 12/27 if we were to change plans. That begs the question, how does that impact the hospital billing? Our insurance says we would be billed under our current (gold) policy until 1/27. His HR says if we switched to silver the hospital would bill the delivery and subsequent care as of 12/27, which undermines the whole reason we signed up for the gold to begin with.

So, we are trying to figure out whether it's worth changing plans or not and what is normal to expect during this transition. Are there standards/guidelines, and if so, what are they? The higher premiums are less desirable now that the birth is over, but we don't want to be whiplashed with hospital bills if we were to change. We have made many calls back and forth now and nobody seems to know.

Please excuse the slightly rambling nature of this, as it's difficult to explain.

    Health Insurance

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 07:56 PM PST

I am a new immigrant in the US in Dallas, TX. The place that I am working for promised me that they would provide medical insurance benefit. However, when I started the job, they have told me that I would get the insurance only after 3 months (and for me only, not my family).

I would like to apply for the healthcare.gov for my wife, my six-year old daughter and me. After completing the application, I have received the following result:

    • My wife and me: Eligibility overview: Eligible to buy a Marketplace plan for a premium tax credit of up to $789 each month for your tax household
    • My daughter: May be eligible For Medicaid You will get a final decision from your state Medicaid agency.

It is very confusing how I should proceed and the deadline is approaching (January 15th) and I can not continue without insurance especially for my daughter and wife. We thankfully don't have any medical conditions and rarely visit the doctor, but it's better to be covered.

    My questions are the following

    • The website only offers the marketplace insurance for my wife and me, not my daughter. Would she get an answer later for the Medicaid / Chip , should I just proceed with choosing the insurance for my wife and me?
    • For the "Decide how much tax credit to use to lower your premium", which amount should I input? Can someone please explain like I'm 5 :) The salary for the my current job is 38 000 USD (my wife is not working) but I'm hoping to get a better job in the future.

    Thank you

Insurance Policy Limits Request by Litigant

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 09:21 AM PST

X-Post from (LegalAdvice) Driving Record Issue! Two people both listed as driver for accident on driving records.

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 11:15 AM PST

So my partner and I were on the same car insurance up until earlier this year, and during that time(6ish years) I had two car accidents. We are in Colorado if that matters for the laws!

We were on USAA insurance with her as the policyholder and both of our vehicles under the same policy however she was listed as the only added/authorized driver of her car and I was the only added/authorized driver of mine.

When the first accident happened she did not have a vehicle at the time and only mine was on there but I was still listed as the only driver. Now earlier this year I bought a new vehicle and needed different insurance and when I was shopping around I had multiple agencies confirm with me that the accidents were on my record, in my name, and listed me as the driver for both.

The claims on her USAA insurance also list me as the driver and my vehicle as the vehicle. Now today she was shopping around for cheaper insurance with a family member and she called me and said that the accidents showed up on her record as well, and listed her as the driver? I understand that because we were on the same insurance the claims would be attached to her policy and that's not an issue but how could my driving record show me as the driver for both accidents and hers show the same?

She was a passenger in the first accident and nowhere near my car for the second.

Any help or advice regarding the laws on this and if we can do anything to get it changed would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

    Tenants insurance

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 08:25 AM PST

Hey folks. I'm located in Ontario Canada. In the summer, an apartment I was renting had a piece of plumbing in the washroom fail and cause some flooding. My landlord called her insurance company and they came and did their thing. I did a quick repair on the toilet the day is happened so that it would stop leaking/we had a useable toilet.

I no longer live at this apartment but just received a phone call from her insurance company telling me that they're now going after mine (I had tenants insurance) for the cost of $14,000 in damages due to the flooding.

What should I expect to happen?? I've never dealt with anything like this before.

    Insurance Changes After Birth

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 03:30 PM PST

My wife and two children are currently under my insurance. We are having another baby at the end of the month. We considering adding the baby to my insurance but then having my wife get her own insurance through her employer. My question is, in general, will insurance cover the birth and costs associated with delivery since she will be on my insurance up to that point?

I'm fortunate enough to have the insurance I have as it covers just about everything involved in a pregnancy, with the only exception being that we are responsible for 50% coinsurance for the hospital stay but we would be saving around 350 a month on premiums going forward if she switches to her employer's insurance plan but I don't want to end up having to be responsible for the full bill due to her switching after the delivery.

    UK Vehicle Insurance Query

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 03:07 PM PST

Can any UK insurance whizz's advise on my query?

I'm wanting to fly out to Budapest to purchase a motorcycle I've seen, and then ride it home, which would take 2-3 days.

The cost to have it transported to the UK costs nearly as much as the motorcycle, so a scenic ride back through Europe is more appealing.

    Thanks in advance!

Health Insurance - Which would you pick?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 02:48 PM PST

    30 m us / single (no dependents).

fairly healthy. No major health concerns or anything. Decent shape/diet. Usually try to see my primary care physician once a year just to keep an eye on things (this includes bloodwork).

Can't decide between the two options below:

Plan 1 (open access plus HSA):

    -$0 monthly premium

    -$2,850 deductible

-Not sure why it mentions HSA here in the plan's title? I just thought that was a separate sort of tax-advantaged account that someone could use for health costs. But I didn't think it had anything to do with the plan itself.

    Plan 2 (open access plus)

-$115.95 monthly premium ($57.98 per paycheck

    -$1,000 deductible

I'm leaning towards the plan with the $0 premium, but curious what you all think. Any notable reasons why you'd suggest taking the lower deductible?

    Thanks for your insight.

Parked car was hit, other driver at-fault, might be total loss

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 10:20 AM PST

My parked car, a 2006 Corolla in average condition, was hit and the rear bumper severely damaged. Luckily, they left a note and their insurance is covering it; I have an appointment with their suggested auto body shop next week. However, I think that they will declare it a total loss due to its low ACV, even though it has never had any mechanical issues. I live in southern California.

I'm fearing that they will declare it a total loss then pay me just the ACV, which will be nowhere near enough to find a suitable replacement, especially in this economy. My car insurance doesn't include collision insurance, which my company said was what this incident falls under; I do have un/derinsured motorist property damage insurance to the tune of $3500.

I'm afraid that this will end up costing me a ton of time and money. I would love advice on whether this is likely to happen, or if my fears are overblown; how to maximize the payout and/or minimize financial damage if this does happen; and what my best options might be. I am trying to prepare myself for a potential fight next week. Thanks for whatever advice you can give!

    Calamity and changes! Halp!

    Posted: 13 Jan 2022 01:58 PM PST

    State: Alabama.

I'll spare you the story, because I've been through a real hedoublehockeysticks.... but the insurance company, I will call Slytherin, and the agent is Lord Voldemort has gone too far.

I NEED a new, BETTER insurance company.

    The questions:
    1. Aren't agencies responsible for errors and omissions?
    2. What insurance company is out there in Alabama, who:
    A. Has agents who aren't on a power trip/will actually go to bat for you, and
    B. Will actually pay claims and/or assist you properly when you are not at fault, to recover those damages, or even would front it and subrogate for you, and
    C. Has a better rating than the average 1.5 star review by CUSTOMERS who have had claims?
    D. Competitive rates/solvent, not the cheap, subprime/substandard insurance that high risk drivers get...
    E. Also has homeowners, top notch, not substandard/not one who will refuse a claim/dump a policy/rope-a-dope.

I'm talking, customers, not just what the companies/agents claim. I need to cut thru the BS quickly and arrive at a good insurance carrier....
