Purchasing a domain name that was already claimed Posted: 03 Jan 2021 11:41 AM PST Has anyone purchased a domain name that was claimed by one if those businesses that buy up tons of names in the hope that someone makes them an offer? I'm looking at one, but they're asking $5000. Has anyone had success in negotiating a reasonable price in this kind of situation, and if so would you mind saying the asking price and the price you obtained? I know that there's always the option to get a different name or extension but ignore that possibility for this discussion. [link] [comments] |
Looking for Banking Recommendations Posted: 04 Jan 2021 03:07 AM PST I'm in the process of incorporating a new business in the US and I'm looking for some banking options. I'm a US citizen, but I live in Europe, so I need one where I can open my account online. I have a US mailing address that will be used when I incorporate my business. The business is an events business, helping US/Canadian people or organizations produce events here in France (or anywhere in Europe, really). I'm incorporating in the US so I can take advantage of the VAT refund US businesses get when purchasing goods/services from European businesses. [link] [comments] |
Help name my very specific cleaning business :) Posted: 03 Jan 2021 06:34 AM PST Hello, I'm getting ready to register my business. I clean homes for property management companies between renters or after renovation. Only after the junk removal, and other contractors are finished. What would you call this? Post residential occupancy/renovation home restoration? Maybe as a description but for an actual name... No idea. However, considering my target market is so niche does it even matter? My work has a good reputation and typically my clients don't need to be sold. They need solid work. Anyway, just curious for feedback. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Buying an expiring domain for my small business Posted: 03 Jan 2021 09:53 PM PST I have my eye on an expiring domain. Is there any way to do this easily? I know about the date it will be released but I want to try to purchase it before anyone else does. [link] [comments] |

First time doing business taxes (sole proprietor) Posted: 03 Jan 2021 01:58 PM PST Hey guys, this tax season will be my first as a small business owner. I'm a sole proprietor in WA and would like to know— what route should I go? Should I hire some help out or could I do everything on my own? Some background, I have been on this sub before— I have printed out my bank statements from when I started until now (AUG-DEC) and will highlight everything accordingly (business expenses, personal expenses, and business transactions.) What else should I be prepared for or should have handy? (I have every transaction card/cash/insurance recorded in a notebook plus my receipts) and what are all of the taxes I'll have to pay (I forgot them all haha) EDIT: I'm a massage therapist, no employees and I do not sell any products. Taxes for PPP, EIDL Grant and State Grants Posted: 03 Jan 2021 01:30 PM PST Does anyone know how these forgivable funds will be treated for tax purposes? I have a PPP, EIDL Grant and a state grant - the latter of the two which were forgivable from the get go. My PPP should be approved for full forgiveness once the SBA looks at my app. On one hand, I heard that they weren't going to be looked at as taxable income. On the other, I've heard that it will and ends up counting towards your bottom line. We're trying to qualify for a new house this year and it would be ideal if I could factor some or all of these funds into my bottom line to increase the amount we're approved for. So far, I haven't been able to find any clear information on this. [link] [comments] |
Financial planning assistance guidance Posted: 03 Jan 2021 10:53 PM PST Can anyone suggest me some good ways to make better use of money to achieve the following: - save taxes - buy dividend yielding stocks - invest for retirement - invest for real estate investment - saving for short term needs - investing/using funds to create sideline revenue generation mechanism [link] [comments] |
How do you manage social life with small business? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 04:54 PM PST I run my business from home. But even when I had an office, I'd just see clients and wasn't able to socialize much. So I'm pretty isolated running my business from home. I think socializing is easier when you have a job at a place with coworkers. How do you manage your social life and meet new people when running your business? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jan 2021 04:32 PM PST I have a potential new employee asking about PTO. I've offered a week of PTO after 1yr to previous hires, but I've never had anybody inquire about using it and I haven't had anybody last long enough to need to come up with a policy for increasing PTO in year 2. I have a potential new hire who has agreed to all other things, but is asking for 3 weeks of PTO from hire. That sounds pretty extreme to me. What sort of policy is normal? I feel like I would consider offering 1 week at 6 months and maybe could consider an aggressive accrual to get to the desired 3 weeks over a shorter than normal time period, but that sort of seems like a slippery slope to huge amounts of PTO after a few years. Print-on-demand playing card recommendations Posted: 03 Jan 2021 10:22 PM PST Hope it's OK to ask here. I'm looking for a service that allows to create a set of print on demand playing cards (both front and back of the card as well as the box) for selling through etsy / amazon / etc. and with printing / shipping options that cover Europe. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Buy now pay later (sezzle, klarna, etc.) experience? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 12:46 PM PST Anybody have experience offering these on their e-commerce sites? Any risks or things to look out for? For some reason I get the feeling that some percentage of people end up not paying the full amount, but I definitely could be wrong on that. Did you notice any increase in orders or larger purchases? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

Help Brainstorming Local Marketing for a Therapist Posted: 03 Jan 2021 08:49 PM PST Hey all, I'm a therapist starting an online private practice in Florida. I already did all the paperwork and stuff but now I'm trying to attract clients. I'm doing the SEO stuff and running ads (which have brought me in a couple leads) but I'm trying to brainstorm different businesses I could speak to. My target demographics are adults ages 18-40 dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues. I've partnered with a local wellness/meal prep company but I can't think of another place to try to connect with. I also want to reach out to other therapists and healthcare providers but none of them have been answering my emails and I don't want to just drop in because of covid. Also, this is completely unrelated but if any of you are or know frontline health care workers in Florida who want PTSD counseling, PM for info. I'm going to provide either free or at-cost counseling services for a couple. [link] [comments] |
Novice seeking Business knowledge from the experienced Posted: 03 Jan 2021 08:04 PM PST Good day, I'm a 28 year old self employed individual. My goal for the past few years was to be a serial entrepreneur hopefully starting multiple ventures. Over the last few months I've been listening to alot of podcasts, audioboks and watching shows to get whatever knowledge I can about business. I still have a few pressing questions that I feel I can only find from the people actually doing it that are willing to share. Id really appreciate the help if you have answers. It may be able to help others as well. I'm sure it cant be only me. -LLC vs S Corp for a startup? -What is the importance of a business valuation? -How do owners leverage business assets or debt to make more money? -What was your process to obtaining business credit? -Whats a good profit margin a business should aim for? -How do you scale if you fear your employees/ contractors stealing your clients? -How does one balance spending time with family vs trying to grow a business? -How do you find your true passion or purpose? -How to narrow down what path to take if ideas are just bursting out of your head? -Can it be done all alone or do you NEED a team/ partners? -How do people manage to not take a salary for years while starting a biz if they have living expenses and dependants? -Whats the best method to grow a local business? -Recommened books, podcasts, series and shows to help novice entrepreneurs? I want to be able to show my customers as many sports events as possible. Posted: 03 Jan 2021 07:31 PM PST Does anyone know what the chances of being caught using dazn in a small business are. I'm looking at opening up a restaurant and I want to be able to show games for my customers. I'm not really down to overpay for a commercial account that only let's me show specific events. Has anyone on here tried to use it for a small business? Do you guys know of anyone getting caught using it for a small business? They already got the rights to the Premier League from TSN and Sportsnet and they're the only way to get NFL Game Pass in Canada. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jan 2021 07:30 PM PST I hope this is the right place to ask. I'm looking to open a brick and mortar gift and homewares store. Rent is steep where I live but I've found a property that's well priced within my budget. I'm going to be also running the store online, the main reason for the shop front was because LOTS of wholesalers only offer their products to physical stores. So my question is, how important is foot traffic around my store? I'lI invest in digital Marketing, will this be enough? I just can't decide if I should take this store or not. [link] [comments] |
How do you talk about COVID to your customers? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 08:02 AM PST As a small business owner, what has been the best advice or strategy you have used to communicate ongoing changes or uncertainty to your customers due to COVID-19? [link] [comments] |
How to transition from retail space to direct sales in my local market Posted: 03 Jan 2021 07:43 AM PST Hi, I'm helping a close friend expand her handmade goods business. She's an artist and has some good business sense (more than me to be honest), but alas I'm trying to offer her my creativity however I can! Currently in the city we live in, her hand-casted and pigmented concrete planters are on the shelves of about 5-6 local retailers (plant shops and home goods boutiques), but she is giving a 50/50 split to these retailers. The inventory she provides to each store sells out within days after each delivery. One of these retailers has clearly stated they are not open to renegotiating the split. She is starting to organically increase her direct sales without any marketing other than social media presence (local pickup only- no shipping- due to the weight of the materials) via her webstore. She wants to make more money, and the 50/50 split with the retailers is starting to feel a little unnecessary. Volume can't be increased exponentially due to the artisan/handmade nature of the product. I want to help her grow her direct sales locally in our city (Phoenix, AZ), so she can keep 100% of the profits. I'm guessing that starting to compile a mailing list would be a good place to start? How could we do that with the retail sales? If we can capture enough information about our retail customers, I'm thinking we could then do some really effective marketing locally to reach the similar demographics here. We are both total newbies to this. I would greatly appreciate any book or blog recommendations, any practical advice, or any other subs I should cross post this to. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jan 2021 12:32 PM PST I know the best experience is actually working in the business before starting but it's not my personal small business but it is essential to me. Does anyone here have a good recommendation on how to actually run a restaurant professionally? I am an amateur and I want this business to thrive, we had to lay off 3 people. No days off now but it's slow, there has to be something we can do, our product is great. The neighborhood desperately needed authentic Mexican food. For now I think it's more important to cut off what's bleeding money and I have to make note of that, I just don't have the knowledge of it. I have to be organized and document things I just don't know how. There's no foot traffic around the area, so we depend a lot on take out, and deliveries. We don't have outdoor dining because of the money it would cost, and the lack of foot traffic as well. I'm tired of this business just barely making it but I know deep down if I get more advice and put it to use we can use this "order in because it's too cold." Any constructive help would be great. It doesn't help that I've been suffering from mentally health issues but I'm pushing myself abs I've reached out for help. I'm reaching out for help here too, one less thing weighing me down. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jan 2021 06:24 PM PST Has anyone tried them in previous years and found them reliable? It seems I can save a few thousand dollars on taxes and they take 15%, but not sure if it's worth the hassle of increased audit risk. [link] [comments] |
Should I get an LLC for home rentals? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 10:46 AM PST I'm currently 28. I have one rental home in Kansas City. I just moved to Florida and am working on buying a second rental here this year and eventually would like to grow this into a business. Is it important to get an LLC now? What are the pros and cons of renting out a home as a business vs just as a guy with a few properties? [link] [comments] |
I'm making money but how can I get more orders on my online digital service business? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 06:14 PM PST I started a service on Etsy 7 months back that offers a specific style of editing of images/photographs people have. Since May last year I've received 41 orders, the profit isn't high I'm not an expert at what I do so I can't charge the same base rate as most. I'm on the lower end and this is probably why I'm getting orders. Even so I'm earning something £20-50 a month, all through Etsy and I'm looking to increase that. I tried creating an Instagram page and following people to try and get them to view my Etsy link in the hopes they'd be interested, but that has had no luck. I was thinking of printing flyers and just putting them into people's letterboxes. How else can I promote this service? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jan 2021 06:53 AM PST Is there any suggestions on how to promote my start up small business of designing houses? I want to use social media but I still work for a design business/lumber yard and dont want to get in a big fight with them about it either. So any help is greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
