How to stay motivated when people bring you down?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2022 01:31 AM PST

Hey everyone, this is my first post here so I hope that the formatting is correct. I live as an expat in a country that is 2 hours away from my family by plane. I came here and I found a job in a software company and was making decent money. Two years later after I started working I had some family scuffles which led to me not speaking to them for 2 years. During this time I was under a lot of stress and it led to me having burnout and being fired from my job. I decided to start my own small business, but it's been growing slowly. I really love working on it but it's not instant success. It's been hard to try to keep going when you're feeling depressed and you lose motivation quickly, but I try. Recently I got in touch with my family again and my mom is really sick. I shut down the business for 2 months to take care of her. I've been really stressed and among this crisis, my dad keeps telling me that I haven't accomplished as much as my other siblings, that I should move back, and he can't help me if I live far away. It really gets me down and makes me feel likena fool. My business means a lot to me and it's something I love to do. I'm trying to do something I love because I've always done jobs I hated. Sorry for the long rant, but how do you guys stay motivated when other people are negative? When I hear these things I get down and doubt myself for days. I wonder if I'm stupid and if I will even accomplish anything. Thanks in advance.

    Where to even start?? (UK)

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 09:54 PM PST

    Hey everyone,

I've had a real epiphany moment in the shower for a tool/piece of software that relates to my profession. Some searching around online all seems to indicate that my idea is unique with little/no competition in the market and I know from years of experience that it would solve a real world problem within my industry.

My problem is, that I just have no idea how or where to start..do I write a business plan first, do market research? do I start thinking about getting funding and how much? Do I start speaking to a consultant or do I even go as far as starting to find a software developer to put together proof of concept?

I guess my question would be..step by step, how do I start to taking my idea and turn it into a business? Then, How or where do I turn to for advise or guidance for each of the steps in order? Thanks in advance and apologies if this has been asked/answered a million times before!

    Help with GoogleMyBusiness.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 11:21 PM PST

I tried asking in GMB & SEO communities, but couldn't find help. So asking it here..

I'm a Marketer - with experience in FB, IG Paid Promotions - Website Designing - E-commerce and all.

But one aspect I didn't explore much is GoogleMyBusiness-

Now, I know some basic work to get started with - with GoogleMyBusiness. Here they are:

▫️Add Name, Description (being within GMB policies) ▫️Add relevant Keywords & Location [have to work on that] ▫️Create a Website and connect it with GoogleMyBusiness ▫️Create a One-Page Website with GoogleMyBusiness itself as well. ▫️Add Phone Numbers, Emails and other contact info. ▫️Connect and set it up with Webmaster - work on Website speed. ▫️Add Photos/Videos to GMB - regularly update it. ▫️Encourage customers to give us Google Ratings. ▫️Answer Questions and FAQs you get on your Google Page. Regularly. ▫️Try to connect Local Directory Profiles (JustDial, Practo, etc) connected to website and GMB.

Please correct me if I'm not looking in the right direction. Also, please suggest the key pointers I've missed.

My BIG QUESTION is - all these pointers I've mentioned above seems basic. Our competition will be doing the same too - as they should.

How would you make an equipment rental online platform safer from users who can steal or even damage the equipment you're renting?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2022 02:16 AM PST

I'm currently developing a website where equipment rental companies of a certain industry will be gathered. They'll list their equipment for rent in my website to be more accessible for people who haven't heard about them. From the first day I've wanted my business to be B2C. I see it as a safer way to do business with companies rather than with physical people because firms value their reputation higher in some instances.

I'd like to know if my ideas for a safer website are good enough:

    1. Online payments only, no cash. Clients will login with their bank details and pay for the service (it's very common in my country).
    2. AI-driven software scanning new registered users for their past troubles. Software would scan new people and determine whether login details they've used are blacklisted somewhere.

    Startup Regulation Help

    Posted: 30 Jan 2022 02:08 AM PST

I'm looking into starting up a small vending machine business. I would be only starting out with candy and gumball machines as they are less high risk compared to a few thousand dollar soda or snack machine. I live in Ohio and I have done some research into state laws and other than getting a transient vendor's license I don't know if anything else would apply to me. I would appreciate any help or advice you guys could throw at me. Edit: I am mainly doing this to see if I could turn a profit and gain experience

Sunday Rant about why this sub sux - get it out of your system! - January 30, 2022

    Posted: 30 Jan 2022 02:00 AM PST

Here's your chance to rant about how much this subreddit sux. Lets try to contain it to a single weekly thread - here.

We're going to start removing any individual posts - because they're becoming quite meta, but it's only fair to have a regular place for constructive criticism. To be clear, no personal attacks will be tolerated here either - but feel free to use this post as a subreddit punching bag/soap box, and tell the mods what a terrible job we're doing.

Also if you want to be a moderator/future punching bag, self-nominate with a post here. You must have contributed to this sub for at least 4 years (show us a 4 year old post, comments, etc). You must also be active on the sub in the last 3 months (comments or new submissions.).

    Collectable gold and silver feasability

    Posted: 30 Jan 2022 01:48 AM PST

How would a collectable gold and silver coins/token business work? Can you get wholesale gold and silver to turn into products or is this kind of thing only viable for large scale businesses? Just curious

Struggling to hire freelancers for our startup

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 04:59 PM PST

Our startup requires hiring freelance delivery drivers (similar to Instacart and Deliveroo) where they delivery groceries to customers.

I interview candidates who apply via a phone call and they seem interested in joining the team. However when I send them a document to read and fill out, such as submitting their proof of ID and address, I rarely get any submissions. It's almost as though they are reluctant to go through the document submission phase and I am struggling to find drivers to complete the onboarding process.

What can I do to improve this process and driver conversions?

Recommendations on models and/or mannequins for modeling clothing for online storefront?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 07:47 PM PST

Can anyone recommend types of mannequins that are especially good?

And does anyone who has an online clothes store share insights on your experience hiring models to wear clothing you're trying to sell? Doesn't seem like that would make a lot of financial sense unless you're selling lots of the same item, and would make less sense if you're selling unique items of clothing.

Need guidance on a business startup.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 07:46 PM PST

Starting a Carwash repair business based in NY but will be traveling wherever needed. I will be an on call mechanic for car washes. Basically if any aspect of a car wash needs repair, maintenance or installation, I'm your guy.

I have 17 years experience in the industry. I have the knowledge, connections and tools to do it for myself. I'm a one man show, so I don't plan on hiring employees anytime soon. I am legally able to do so (no non compete, etc). I would like an LLC (I think) but am open to options that benefit me and the business.

My biggest issues are the actual aspect of running a business. What paperwork do I need? What legal (fed and state) documents? What insurances? Is an LLC the right option? Is there a "guidance councilor" type of person I can go to or pay for this type of advice or that can do this all for me?

Do I charge sales tax on travel, labor, parts, etc? Does it vary by county, state, etc? I'm very good at the work I do but that's about it. I just want someone that can guide me in the legal/paperwork aspects. I've called 4 different lawyers for guidance as well as the dept of state in NY and keep getting passed along to another person or department and not getting retuned calls. Is so frustrating. Just looking for advice.

How does a startup go viral?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 07:38 PM PST

Can a startup ( primarily a mobile platform ) gain 100K downloads from 100 in 24hours? Is this even possible? How? How would you do it? What would be your strategies to achieve this mountain of a goal? How would someone go viral? Or is it pure luck? Any guidance is helpful.

cash flow or saving for retirement?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 06:47 PM PST

I was told to post my question here to get better results. I have a restaurant in California. I re-invest a lot of the money I make in my restaurant. My plan is to have multiple locations but by doing this I am risking all the money I make. If something happens to this industry, I would have nothing for my retirement. Should I focus on increasing my cash flow or saving money? Thank you

I want my own business, but I'm not good at anything in life and I have almost no interests at all.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 09:59 AM PST

The only thing I'm good at is math and logical thinking, but the problem is I don't like math enough to study it and start a career with it. Even if, I would still have to study a few years and I'm already 22. I hate studying and I hate homework. So I'm very good at math and logical thinking but I haven't studied anything math related and I probably won't. Because I don't like it.

I don't have many interests in life. I'm a pretty boring and depressed person. I spend 99% of my free time playing strategy games. But I have no idea what profit making business I could start with this.

Advice? I really want my own business, and I want it to grow big over time, which is a very serious life goal of me, but even though I have been thinking about this for years, I still have no idea what type of business I should start. I also don't know which type of business I should start as "experiment" to gain experience as a starting entrepreneur without getting myself in huge debts
