I did it! I’ve landed a SDR role with no tech experience

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 05:50 PM PST

First, I want to thank all you guys who give advice and tips for those of us trying to get into tech sales. Just a month ago I bumped into a posts about so many of you in the tech sales industry & I had no idea how rewarding this can be. It believe this is going to change my life...

I came from originally doing health insurance so I did have some sales experience but no college at all. I followed all your guy's advice and I tweaked up my resume & applied, applied, applied. This week I had 3 offers and yesterday took 1. Originally the company that I accepted offered 70k OTE but I negotiated my salary and they gave me 78k OTE! I'm so hyped and can't wait to begin. Official start date is the 28th of Feb!

3 weeks long of back to back interviews & working full time + trying to juggle time with my wife and baby... finally got one. It feels good.

I'm socially awkward outside of being an SDR

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 07:12 PM PST

I focus on adding value to every conversation and asking relevant questions related to my prospects' business. I'm in college and killing it part time in software sales.

I have a hard time relating to my most of my peers. And conversations are always awkward. Speaking with entrepreneurs or other sales professionals is usually a better time.

Do you relate to this? How do you overcome this?

Salespeople now in C-Suite/Founders, what’s your story?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 10:47 PM PST

Looking for more information from people that have transitioned from sales into an executive or ownership role. How did you make the transition? What helped you get into the new role? I would like to be a founder or CEO in the future so any advice would be appreciated.

    Microsoft Azure Specialist

Is this MSFT's job title for "AE" for selling Azure cloud? Or is this a solutions consultant/architect?

    Are taxes different for Comissions?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 09:35 PM PST

I recently got a decent sized check, around $13k for Comissions (hot diggity!), and had $3500 taken in fed taxes, $820 in SS and $190 in Medicare.

Does this seem excessive? Are comissions taxed differently than standard income?

Sorry if this should be in a tax-related thread, if so I'll repost it elsewhere.

    Advice on a new graduate

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 07:49 PM PST

    Hello,

I'm going to graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in Finance and recently started my job search. I was able to land an interview at this company and they offered me a position with a base pay of 60k with a bonus if I reach my OTE. Is this normal? I was wondering if anybody had any input because I don't really have any sales experience let alone that much product knowledge. Why would they hire me?

Sales people, what do you actually DO when travelling?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 11:28 PM PST

So the job requires lots of travel, but what does a typical trip consist of? I assume you have meetings and make pitches, but what about outside of that? Do you go clubbing with clients? Lol.. What happens on these mysterious sales trips that are so necessary?

Just started in D2D sales….kind of?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2022 05:09 PM PST

So the company I've started working for over the last week has been interesting. We go door to door setting appointments with an energy advisor who basically gets people to utilize the public purpose programs and new system generation charge through Edison/SCE. You make 20% off of appointments you've set and close all the way through. And once you're facilitating or closing deals as an energy advisor you're making 40%. My general question is does all this make sense from an outside perspective to someone who's has years in sales? Is anyone knowledgeable on the topic and if anyone has any related experience I'd love some advice. Personally I hit my weeks goal for leads in 2 days. I wanted 1 lead a day for the 5 day week, got 6 leads before lunch my first two solo days and now I'm at the weekend.
