The market did not drop because of Omicron variant. Omicron has been in the news for weeks. Posted: 20 Dec 2021 02:32 PM PST This is a general post about event being fit onto market action after the fact. It is so silly. Why didn't anyone say "Market up the last 5 days due to Omicron variant" ? I could find 20 events, both positive and negative, that could be used to explain why the market went up or down. If the market was up today, no one would talk about omicron , they'd talk about some peace treaty somewhere. Heat wave! Climate change! Market goes down. Ooops, when that was the news, the market went up. Condo collapse! Market goes up. Europe flooding! Market goes down. Nope, it went up. Omicron variant has been in the news for weeks, and NOW the market goes down because of Omicron ? Maybe yesterday the market went up because of Omicron. Just as stupid. Ignore all news. The market dropped because there were more sellers than buyers. The scapegoat just happens to be some arbitrary event. [link] [comments] |
Cathie Wood: My Stocks Are Now 'Deep Value,' Headed for Sky Posted: 20 Dec 2021 02:04 PM PST

Moderna shares jump; says Covid booster appears to protect against omicron Posted: 20 Dec 2021 05:00 AM PST Moderna announced Monday that a third dose of its mRNA vaccine against Covid-19 appears to provide significant protection against the omicron variant. a double doze of the booster shot — 100 micrograms, rather than the approved 50 micrograms — was significantly more effective. A 100 microgram booster dose increased neutralizing antibody levels "approximately 83-fold," according to preliminary data, it said in a release. [link] [comments] |
Chile stock market plummets on leftist Boric's election victory Posted: 20 Dec 2021 07:00 AM PST SANTIAGO - The Chilean stock market and peso took a beating Monday after leftist millennial Gabriel Boric became the country's youngest-ever president-elect with an unexpectedly substantial victory over his far-right rival. Following a night of street celebrations at the end of a polarizing runoff race, the SP IPSA index opened 6.83 percent down, before regaining some ground. The peso ceded 3.02 percent to the US dollar to open the day at a historic high of 872.61. In November, the IPSA index gained more than nine percent when far-right fiscal conservative Jose Antonio came out on top in the first election round. The peso rebounded then by 3.5 percent to 800 to the dollar. Boric, 35, garnered nearly 56 percent of the vote compared to 44 percent for Jose, who conceded even before the final result was known. Tens of thousands of Chileans took to the streets of the capital and other cities to celebrate Boric's victory, honking car horns in approval, brandishing pro-Boric placards, waving the rainbow LGBTQ flag and shouting: "Viva Chile!" Fireworks lit the skies for hours on end. Boric had campaigned on the promise of installing a "social welfare" state, increasing taxes and social spending in a country with one of the world's largest gaps between rich and poor. Branded a "communist" by his detractors, he vowed in his first official address Sunday to "expand social rights" in Chile, but to do so with "fiscal responsibility." "We will do it protecting our macro-economy, we will do it well... to improve pensions and health care," he said. Semiconductors are set to outperform the market in 2022 Posted: 20 Dec 2021 02:35 PM PST Despite a massive shortage, the earnings for virtually all of them including MU which reported tonight, constantly beat and are exceeding expectations. MU had 20 downward revisions according to SA beforehand and yet still beat. TWENTY down, 0 upward revisions! Crazy! These analysts are clueless. With more COVID, semiconductors are great for metaverse/at home plays, and of course with less COVID the reopening development helps semiconductors as well with massive demand. This is one of the easiest calls you could make for 2022, other than Industrials, I could not be more bullish on these two sectors moving forward. Some of my favorites: MU, On, Marvel, Qualcomm and of course AMD and NVDA. [link] [comments] |
Why does robinhood say I'm up for the day even though all my positions are down for the day? Posted: 20 Dec 2021 07:37 PM PST all my positions are in the red for the day but robinhood says I've gained money today. is it because RH calculates pre market differently or something? I've also had similar issues where RH will have pre market just show up as completely blank 30 minutes before market opens, and the graphs are just completely gone. I feel like this might just be a glitch or something for how robinhood shows things? here's some screenshots if anybody can tell me what's going on: screenshot one and screenshot two it isn't my crip toes because you can clearly see how tiny and insignificant they are. It's difficult to make a case for buying growth stocks right now that doesn't sound like bs Posted: 20 Dec 2021 04:56 PM PST But PYPL, SQ, SHOP, AMZN and a few others are too good not to buy now... Everyone is fearful of catching a falling knife but there's something that many are forgetting about this market... Last year we had a new generation enter the market in one of the biggest introductions in market history. The investor behavior of this group has even had influence in the largest class of investors: institutional investors. Talks of a crash are warranted statistically but my God, it's like talking about a crash during the 1997 pullback. There's so much opportunities in these growth stocks that continue to make record gains despite inflation, COVID, travel restrictions, the great resignation, and a list of other events. I think following the stability of the stronger growth companies makes this a worthy dip buying opportunity that'll likely playoff in less than a month. I really like that retail buyers are so terrified of buying right now, it helps keep prices low and there's no need to rush into buying. [link] [comments] |
Why Do You Believe the Markets Tanked This Morning? Posted: 20 Dec 2021 07:44 AM PST First, new news asserts Biden failed to execute the 'Build Back Better Framework' Bill. Second, cargo ships are stuck in California ports which aggrevates supply chain issues. Third, and finally, this could be the result of something much more complex or simple as the omnicron varient coronavirus affecting lives globally. Any news or thoughts? Jim Cramer once claimed the historical Christmas rally begins around this time and last through the first few days of January. [link] [comments] |
What were your biggest bullets dodged in 2021? Posted: 20 Dec 2021 10:50 AM PST My top (bottom?) 3 are: $PLTR - Sold for a profit, down 45% since $BABA - Sold for a very small loss, down 50% since $PTON - Sold for a small profit, down... 70% Jesus. Didn't know it was this bad. Honorable mention to $BYND - Lost like 10% on this but it's down another 30% since. Why I sold these? Got tired of holding a bunch of meme stocks and ended up just tossing all the money back into S&P500 like I've always done before 2020 warped my brain. [link] [comments] |
Would you buy GOOG or AMZN today. Posted: 20 Dec 2021 11:59 AM PST If you had the ability to buy some shares today in Amazon and Google. Which one would you buy. [link] [comments] |
Dan Ives AAPL $230, TSLA $1800 Posted: 20 Dec 2021 09:08 PM PST Dan Ives interview tonight and he's calling for AAPL price target in 2022 $220 to $230 and $3 trillion market cap as a base case. On TSLA he's viewing year end selling mostly as "white noise" and says TSLA will be right back to $1400 and bull case to $1800 price target. He says Nasdaq target is 19000 end of 2022! He says of course there will be volatility, but end of 2022 those are his targets! Go Dan! [link] [comments] |
What will rally euphorically in 2022? Posted: 20 Dec 2021 03:22 PM PST 2021 was a year of euphoric rallies for semiconductor stocks and cyber security. Stocks in these sectors performed ridiculously well and led to overvalued valuations even though the companies were posting strong earnings. I'm talking about stocks like NVDA, AMD, NET, and PANW to name a few. Great companies no doubt but there's no denying how overvalued the stocks got. What sectors do you think will rally in the same way in 2022? [link] [comments] |
‘I have Covid,’ Jim Cramer says. He says he’s been triple vaccinated and has a mild case Posted: 20 Dec 2021 11:11 AM PST
His investing advice?
Cramer's experience is relevant to the market because like it or not, a lot of people follow his recommendations. If he comes through Omicron relatively unscathed, I think he's going to be very bullish and his audience will follow his lead. But if Cramer has a tough time with Omicron, then his audience is going to be more negative on the market. How do you think Cramer's infection may affect the market? I know he's not Reddit's favorite, but I wish him and his family a speedy recovery. [link] [comments] |
How do you get charged if you are in and out of TQQQ? Posted: 20 Dec 2021 09:36 PM PST I see TQQQ has a .95% fee, which I assume is annual? So if you're constantly buying it and selling it how are the fees figured out? For example say I buy TQQQ today. I don't have a trading account so the quickest I could sell would be the next trading day correct? So say I put $2000 in today and I make 3% return and sell it tomorrow. How do they figure the .95% fee? Is it figured on a per day basis or what? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Dec 2021 07:36 PM PST Seems to me to be a good time to get into VXUS with 1. It taking a beating from omicron fears and approaching its 2021 low, and 2. Vanguard estimating nearly 2x annualized return of international equities over US equities over the next 10 years. Just curious to know others' thoughts or if there are better ways to capitalize on these factors. I started building a small position into it today. [link] [comments] |
Melinda French Gates sells $467 million of Canadian National Railway shares Posted: 20 Dec 2021 11:42 AM PST French Gates sold a total of 3.65 million shares in the Montreal-based company from Dec. 7 to Dec. 16, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing. French Gates, who is worth $11.6 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, still holds almost 20 million shares, but is now below the 5% stake that requires her to report transactions. Do ppl usually invest in either an index fund (VFIAX), the ETF version (VOO), or both? Posted: 20 Dec 2021 05:10 PM PST Is it common practice to pick one or the other since they perform similarly/track the same thing? I've heard many ppl choose etfs but I would like to hear your reason for choosing the index fund (VFIAX, VTSAX). [link] [comments] |
Stock saving plan for minor: anything out there? Posted: 20 Dec 2021 10:07 PM PST Hello, I'd like to open a broker account to my son (1 years old)... instead of putting $ into a back account I think it is wise to start a stok accumulation plan.... my hope is that in 20 years, my son will have a good chunk of $ to start his professional life :) Question: is there any brocker that will accept a minor as account holder (clearly with me as second holder) Any ideas? Thank you all [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Dec 2021 12:00 PM PST https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/oracle-buy-cerner-28-3-151236475.html (Bloomberg) -- Oracle Corp. agreed to acquire medical-records systems provider Cerner Corp. for about $28.3 billion, a deal that would add a broad customer base in the health care industry to bolster the software maker's cloud-computing and database businesses. The all-cash transaction, Oracle's biggest-ever deal, will see Oracle pay $95 a share, the companies announced Monday in a statement. The price represents a 20% premium over Cerner's market value last Thursday, before the deal talks first became public. Oracle shares slid 4.3% at 1:40 p.m. Monday in New York, while Cerner shares gained less than 1% to $90.57. Oracle Chief Executive Officer Safra Catz said the acquisition should be "immediately accretive to Oracle's earnings" on an adjusted basis in the first full fiscal year after closing and contribute "substantially more to earnings in the second fiscal year and thereafter." The transaction is expected to close next year, the companies said. Oracle, the second-biggest software maker by revenue, is best known for legacy database products. The company has struggled in recent years to gain ground in cloud computing, in which companies rent data storage and analytic power from large server centers, trailing far behind market leaders such as Amazon.com Inc. and Microsoft Corp. The deal for Cerner gives Oracle a huge foothold in technology for the health care industry -- a sector expected to spend $15.8 billion on cloud infrastructure and software by 2023, according to market researcher IDC -- given Cerner's robust user base, which includes many of the top U.S. hospital systems. And as Oracle moves more of Cerner's systems onto its own cloud infrastructure, the company gains an important case study to help future sales. "Data is where it's at in health care. The ability to not just have a customer and an increased footprint, but to showcase Oracle's database capabilities is a big thing for them," said Rebecca Wettemann, CEO at advisory firm Valoir. Microsoft, too, sees the opportunity in health care. It announced in April that it would spend $19.6 billion for speech-recognition pioneer Nuance Communications Inc. to gain artificial-intelligence technology focused on helping doctors predict patients' needs and upgrading hospitals' digital record-keeping. The challenge for Oracle is persuading Cerner customers, many that probably already run some Oracle products in their own corporate date centers, to make the jump to its modern, cloud-based applications on the promise that more tailored health care offerings will be available in the next few years. "If I'm a hospital system and I'm trying to upgrade into something new, Oracle suddenly becomes a very interesting play," said Bloomberg Intelligence senior analyst Anurag Rana. "You have a massive, large untapped market and if Oracle can create a good product out of it, you are going to start to attract more hospitals." David Feinberg, formerly vice president of Google Health, took over as Cerner's chief executive officer on Oct. 1, saying a major goal would be to use data as a diagnostic tool to help doctors and nurses improve patient care. Two years ago, Cerner announced a deal with Amazon's cloud division to develop programs trying to predict medical diagnoses or recommend courses of treatment for patients. It's unclear how Oracle will navigate that challenge, given it would be a complicated undertaking to move systems that are now supported by AWS onto Oracle's infrastructure. Cerner's choice of Feinberg as CEO highlighted the company's move toward "a strategy based on big data, population health management and consumerism -- and away from the legacy health records business," Donald Hooker, an analyst at KeyBanc Capital Markets, said when Feinberg was named to the post in August. Cerner, which competes with Epic Systems Corp. and Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, among others, generated $5.51 billion in revenue during 2020, and sales are projected to rise by 5% to $5.8 billion this year. The company is based in North Kansas City, Missouri, has about 23,000 employees. The acquisition is Oracle's biggest since its 2016 purchase of NetSuite Inc., a deal valued at $8.7 billion. That purchase has provided Oracle with financial software targeted to small- and mid-sized businesses, which has become among Oracle's fastest growing products. Oracle had $22.8 billion in cash and marketable securities as of Nov. 30, according to its most recent quarterly earnings filing. The company said it doesn't expect the Cerner acquisition to impact its investment grade credit rating. After several years of stagnant revenue, the Austin, Texas-based company has produced six straight quarters of sales growth, sending its shares to a record high on Dec. 15 before the news of the talks with Cerner became public. How to tell when a stock suddenly booms in price? Posted: 21 Dec 2021 12:27 AM PST How can someone tell when a stock will suddenly and abruptly boom in price? I do understand that you never know what could happen in the stock market but surely theirs signs or a website that sorts positive news for a stock or something? For example, GNFT, was their any way of knowing that the stock was going to boom from $3 to $5 on the 16th? [link] [comments] |
Micron Shares Rise On Revenue Beat - great news for the industry? Posted: 20 Dec 2021 01:52 PM PST

Posted: 20 Dec 2021 05:36 AM PST The last two weeks I've lost about 25% of my portfolio through ill placed trades that went against me, being on the opposite side of the winning trade and prices moving faster than I could predict and keep up. I primarily will only buy or sell one legged options (buy calls/puts or implement the wheel) based off my own TA but either the market is too volatile for TA to be of any use or my TA and indicator set up is not set for these current conditions. Or I'm just bad at TA. For reference, I usually will use Bollinger bands, 12,26 ema and MACD and rsi on daily, 4hr, 1hr, and 15 minute time frames. I'm adjusting some risk management going into next week by utilizing spreads where I didn't before. Other than that and setting stop losses, I would like some suggestions if anyone could. What do you guys feel the current sentiment is in the market? Or in specific sectors? Are there specific stocks that y'all are following and making plays on if you don't mind sharing? And strategies you wouldn't mind sharing. Will provide more info if needed. EDIT: Does prediction platforms like: https://predictany.com/tournament/ [link] [comments] |
If 2022 is as bad as everyone is saying, what will your moves be? Posted: 19 Dec 2021 10:44 PM PST If 2022 is as bad for the stock market as many people make it seem, what will your moves be going forward? I began investing during COVID and I know many others did as well, we have not truly experienced a downturn or sideways moving market since then and many of us are likely unsure of what to expect. What do you plan on doing if the market tanks? Buy the dip, or hold cash until there's a deeper dip? What should all the newbie investors be watching to not lose capital if this is in fact the start of a downturn in the market? [link] [comments] |
