When I get a papercut during busy season

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 06:05 AM PST

Anyone on here working in public accounting that does not work weekends?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 06:56 PM PST

If so, how does that end up happening, and how do you manage?

I like what I do and I am a hard worker - I often reach 50-60 billable hours in a small firm, just between Mon-Fri. However, I find the practice of requiring people to work unpaid on their days off very unethical, and it strongly goes against my personal values and what I am willing to do. I was wondering if there is any hope out there.

    Cheers and happy busy season!

Edit: FYI, I work a ton of overtime and more than anyone else at my firm, just not on the weekends.

Sent one of my associates home yesterday after he kept making the same mistakes over and over again. Now he reported me to HR.

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 08:35 AM PST

Do I reply to his complaint with a HAHAHAHAHAHA or a hehe xd.

On a more serious note, I absolutely love the associates that write shit down and ask a ton of questions, especially those that admit their mistakes and ask a bunch of questions to avoid similar mistakes in the future. This fucko on the other hand won't make notes, sits there staring at his phone half the time and complains that clients/coworkers are slow. Slightly lost my shit at him as he basically admitted to doing nothing and the work he did over the last few days was completely wrong, not the first time he has fucked up in this way. Shouted at him and told him to pack his shit and just leave, senior manager on the job didn't really disagree with what I did, we're under a lot of pressure and can't waste time with this.

I'm sure there are better ways for me to have handled this, how would you have done it?

Edit: Thanks for all the advice guys, I got senior really early (1.5 years in) so I still have a lot to learn.

What has your office done for summer parties?

Do you guys do your own taxes?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 06:47 PM PST

I know it's not too hard, but I'm pretty lazy. And busy season kinda gets in the way too. So idk if I want to take the time to learn to do my taxes.

Accepted Big 4 audit internship, wondering if it's possible to switch to advisory.

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 06:40 PM PST

As the title says, I have an audit internship at KPMG this summer and after a winter internship at a local firm, I'm having second thoughts about audit. It could be that I'm doing intern work, but after some research around advisory, I feel like it'd be a better fit. Has anyone heard of people switching their internships from audit to advisory? Should I just stick it out and go with audit? The main reason I'm in accounting is for exit opportunities, would advisory provide more/better opportunities?

Audit Intern- Keep Getting Sent Back Early to Office

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 12:36 PM PST

Hey r/accounting, I am currently an audit intern for a mid tier accounting firm in the tri-state area. So far through this busy season, I have been on a couple audits and reviews (been exposed to a lot of work that I am very grateful for). Primarily due to the firm being understaffed. I have also signed on FT for the firm, as well.

However, I am facing a common occurrence. On the audits that I have been on, I have been scheduled for a 2 week job. But, I have been let go a week earlier than expected on both jobs. The reason they tell me is that there is not any more work for me left to do at the clients. I have been told that i have been doing a good job, though.

Now I feel as if I might be blowing this out of proportion (as I tend to do), but why do they keep sending me back earlier? Is it as simple, as they truly don't have any more work for me? Should I just ask for honest feedback from my team? (probably won't get any back) I tend to doubt myself because of this, even though I am an intern (the lowest of the totem pole).

Thank you, i appreciate it a lot.

TLDR: Audit intern, assigned on 2 week jobs, get sent back to the office after a week. Why??

Should I apply for entry level positions now?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 05:42 PM PST

I am going to be graduating this Spring with my 150 credits to take the CPA exam which I plan on doing next year.

I am looking to get into the tax field and am wondering if I should start applying for entry level positions at top 10 firms/small firms right now. The thing is during the summer I plan to go on vacation for about 6 months in order to get a break from both 5 years of school and to clear my head for preparing for the CPA.

If I apply now will they expect me to start immediately or is it okay if I start later on?

    Thanks for any inputs.

What are the working conditions like at the big 4 offices we outsource to (bangladesh, india, etc...)

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 06:47 AM PST

Just curious to know what the working conditions are like for the people we send our data entry work over to. I've tried looking through my firms resources and online, but I can't really get an answer.

Surgent CPA Review textbooks & flash cards free to a good home (Orlando area)

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 06:12 AM PST

I'm finally done! WooHoo! I have all 4 Surgent CPA review textbooks and flash cards that I'd like to pass on to someone who needs them. I purchased them in July of last year (2017) so they are fairly up to date, at least until the new REG exam comes out. There are check marks in the books next to each section that I read, but there aren't any highlights or notes in the margins. If you're in the Orlando area I'm willing to meet you somewhere

Those of you who work from home, or have flexible hours: how?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 05:28 PM PST

I've been working from home for a long time and it seems like that is about to end. I have an accounting degree, not a CPA. I never actually worked in the industry. I'm going to have a very, very hard time not being able to stay home anymore since I'll probably have to pursue an accounting job. I'm just wondering if there is any way in this industry that I could choose to work flexible hours, or work entirely from home? I have zero interest in traveling for work. Pay is also not important to me

Any accountants willing to answer a few questions about their careers?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 11:55 AM PST

I know accountants generally don't have a lot of time on their hands but I was wondering if any of you guys would like to spend some time helping me with this assignment. PM me and I can send you some questions about your career and responsibilities. I might need some personal information such as your name and degree background so if you are uncomfortable sharing that information feel free to disregard this post. Thanks!

Edit: I was able to get someone so thank you to all who offered!

[US] REV-1500 Penn Inheritance Tax - What Happens If Interest Is Understated?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 06:43 PM PST

I'm preparing a late REV-1500 for a client. Since they don't plan to send payment with the filing, I'm worried the interested calculated will be understated. If it is understated, will the Register of Wills reject the Return or will they accept it and just bill the client for the additional interest owed?

Instead of sending payment with the filling, they plan to wait for a bill from the Register of Wills office then have their attorney pay from the escrow account. I work from NY so I'm unfamiliar with the laws of Pennslyvania and their website is not being helpful. I plan on calling an office on Monday, but thought I'd ask here.

Which numbers for a production report?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 06:34 PM PST

I am having trouble preparing this production report. Here is what I am provided (Exercise 6-39)

What is throwing me off is that in class when we practiced this we were given specific costs for materials, labor, and overhead. With this problem, I'm having trouble differentiating between material and conversion costs.

If anyone could fill me in on what I would use for that I would really appreciate it.

Recently purchased ExamMatrix's BEC $59 package, and now I'm confusion...

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 03:23 PM PST

Finally got around to start preparing for the CPA exams. Read alot about the lazy man strategy on here and decided to give it a try.

So I activated the account yesterday and found out that there are only 1032 questions for BEC. But a lot of people here said that they pounded at least 3000+ MCQs...where did they get these extra 1000-2000 MCQs from? Did I purchase the right package?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.
