Only 10% of company set aside for employees? Posted: 18 Dec 2021 08:52 PM PST In speaking with the founder of a tech startup I'm considering joining, he explained that only 10% of the company was set aside for employees. The first engineer hired only received 0.5% of the company. Doesn't this seem low? And shouldn't they have more like 20-30% set aside for employees? Should I ask about this? [link] [comments] |
As a startup founder, would you rather listen to an educational podcast or read an educational blog? Posted: 19 Dec 2021 05:00 AM PST Hey everyone, I run a social media marketing startup and I'm looking to get into content marketing. My goal with it is to help startup founders increase their revenue with social media marketing, and along with my service, I want to provide some helpful content for free. As a startup founder, would you rather listen to an educational podcast or read an educational blog? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Dec 2021 03:55 PM PST Hey all! I have just about hit a ceiling with my start-up. I have a thorough 3-month action plan with various tasks per month. However, I have come to a stage where I cannot do the tasks which are followed by the task of brand design, because I feel as though the brand design is a pre-requisite to the subsequent tasks (I hope this makes sense). So as mentioned, my current task is brand design. I feel reluctant to go ahead and start cold outreach to potential customers (which is the subsequent task following brand design) before having a basic design, website and socials up and running. The process of getting started with a brand design agency is drawn out, as there is a lot of paperwork shuffling (copyright, Ip, etc), so I have been feeling quite frustrated that I am seemingly "wasting" so much time on the one task! Does this happen to anyone else, or could someone explain what to do in a situation where a particular task is a precursor for another, and what to do to stay productive and ahead of the curve? I know that client outreach and proving product fit, alongside finding a technical co-founder is most crucial, so should I start the other tasks without a basic brand identity? I have done outreach last month, but I feel as though the lack of an overall brand turns people away. Would it be reasonable to complete the brand design task first, even if it seems that I am sitting around waiting for one email reply at a time? I should add that I have been working on this start-up for over 6 months now, and this is the first time that I am NOT working 40 hours per week on it. The change of busyness and the seeming lack of productivity is really confusing me, and it just feels like I have hit a ceiling! Any help is much appreciated :) [link] [comments] |
Is it hard for an individual inventor to sell a PPE product with no prior experience? Posted: 18 Dec 2021 03:05 PM PST To keep it vague, I have a novel PPE concept that I think could be really successful, but I have no idea what hoops you have to jump through as a PPE startup. FDA/OSHA regulations? Certifications? Testing? I assume the industry is heavily regulated and there might be a high barrier of entry and legal costs before being able to bring the product to market, but I can't find much info or guidelines on the topic. I was wondering if any of you had some knowledge or pointers you could share! I haven't patented the idea so I don't want to be too specific, but if it helps, it's in the vein of respirators, filters, and general breathing safety tech [link] [comments] |
When should I start paying myself? Posted: 19 Dec 2021 03:34 AM PST Context: I'm based in Asia and the amounts below are converted from my local currency to USD. (For reference, average salary for a fresh graduate here converts to $600/month)I'm 23 and started my company right after graduation in May 2020 with 2 other co-founders. Together we put in a total of $3,000 and this capital was used for marketing and inventory to fulfill initial orders. Now, 20 months later, the business is running smoothly and all the starting capital has been paid back. Revenue is a stable $5,000/month (more or less $1,250/month net) Would this be a good time to start paying ourselves a monthly salary just to reap some of the fruits of our labor? 2 of us have full time jobs so we don't really need the money. The 3rd is still in school and is being supported by her parents but she could use the extra income. Would appreciate your suggestions. [link] [comments] |
How to promote an app that is intended for writers? Posted: 19 Dec 2021 03:00 AM PST I have built an automatic writing habit tracker. It can track users' progress on any site they write. It comes with a streak calendar to keep writers in a streak. I launched this app 3 months ago. But I couldn't get enough users. What are the right way to market the app that is focused on writers? Question for Business Owners and Executives Posted: 18 Dec 2021 06:41 PM PST When a business development/sales rep from a company reaches out (phone or email, or stopping in), what is most efficient way for him or her to convey value to you? Describing what it is they do and letting you decide if it matters? Or describing the value it brings to you first? Or both? Context: I'm in sales and want to make best use of mine and potential clients time. I'm not about wasting their time or mine. Looking for advice directly from the source of those who receive calls from sales reps on a routine basis as to what causes you to give a rep your attention or time? [link] [comments] |
Where do I market for sports bettors, other than social media? Posted: 18 Dec 2021 08:17 PM PST Where do I market for Sports Bettors, other than Social Media? I ran a statistical analysis company for nba betting. We have a few different statistical models. Results are good. We have gotten traction but it's slowed down recently. Social media is out only platform but the issue is social media is filled with true degenerates and people who just want to do parlays(turn $1 into $1100). That's not our mission. We go the safer, statistical approach. Where do I market? I know for sure there are people who will want my product, but these teens on social don't want anything but 10000% returns and end up paying anyone who can win a 1 crazy bet. It's sad. Any advice appreciated [link] [comments] |
Feeling depressed why do start up loans require $8k-$10 k a month for 3-6 months Posted: 18 Dec 2021 08:48 PM PST I've been trying to start a business in Missouri I have a registered LLC I have a 1888 number registered to the company I have a business bank account I have an EIN number I have a duns number I have a website. The only thing I don't have is money to continue getting started. All the equipment that I did have due to theft and just pure bad luck I lost when somebody's robbed my storage unit. On top of all that my truck blew up. My question is how do I get startup funding if they all want you to have 8 to $10,000 a month for 3 to 6 months. That sounds more like being an established business. And if I had $10,000 a month I don't think I would really need a loan. Does anybody have any suggestions for somebody in my position? My personal credit is not too good right now it took a hit during the pandemic it was either credit card bills or feed the family. I thought about venture capitalist but I don't really understand that too well and I don't really want to give up part of my business to something I don't completely understand. I've got a pretty solid business plan it's a really good business opportunity. The projected sales for the first year or $313,000 averaging right at $20,000to $30,000 a month give or take. These numbers aren't numbers that can happen these are numbers that are going to happen soon as I can get started. I just ran out of money I can't buy that equipment again I got to get a van I've got to get right at $20,000 worth of equipment and then I can get going with the first van that could be making 20 to 30,000 a month. It's crazy to me I can get so close I can see it I can feel it just can't get to it. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading everybody have a blessed holiday season [link] [comments] |
