My bicycle (value ~ $2000) was stolen. My home owners policy has $5000 deductible. Does it make any sense to make a claim, so that future claims would be closer to meeting my deductible? Insurance

    Question for Auto Claim Adjusters

    Posted: 27 Dec 2021 06:48 AM PST

This is a question for any adjusters out there, especially those working at one of the big auto insurance companies.

If you call off sick, do the claims that would have been assigned to you get transferred to someone else? Asking because I called off sick today but do not want to go back to a large amount of missed work from today + a bunch of new claims that were left untouched for a day.

Want to file a claim for my renter's insurance. I live in Apt# 205, but my insurance is for Apt #204

    Posted: 26 Dec 2021 07:12 PM PST

I switch apartments a year ago but never switched my renter's insurance information. I just got flooded because a pipe burst. They found asbestos in the walls and say my apartment is contaminated and I need to get rid of a bunch of stuff. What should I do when filing a claim? Will they care that I switched apartments and I'm on the exact same floor plan and just literally the very next door apartment?

    Car insurance cost in UK

    Posted: 27 Dec 2021 03:00 AM PST

Just trying to find out the rough cost for the next time I apply for insurance. In 2018 I was found guilty of drug driving and banned for 1 year.

I was found guilty earlier this year of drink driving and banned for 3 years. I also gained 3 points due to a speeding fine.

I paid £1600 for a 1 litre turbo Smart car at the beginning of this year. How much will it increase by?

    Thanks for your help!

    Question on car insurance renewal

    Posted: 26 Dec 2021 09:57 PM PST

It's time to renew my policy but I'm now living in Washington state while car is stored in New York. Do I renew my quote using my current address or New York address? I want to use my current address but the car will remain in New York, not driven by anyone.

There is also a question on the policy renewal form which asks where the car will mostly be driven. However if I enter the New York zip code it will reject it, saying that at least one car must be used in WA.

So now I'm even more confused as to how I should fill this out. I don't want this messing up with other things such as registration

Should I just enter the Washington zip code to the question above, even though the car will remain in New York?

Can’t seem to get my business insured

    Posted: 26 Dec 2021 09:54 PM PST

I am a full time photographer in Dallas, tx and rent my photography studio out to other photographers by the hour when I'm not using it. I've called countless insurance companies but haven't had any luck getting this portion of my business covered. I operate out of a live/work loft building and management is fully aware and supportive of me renting my space to other creators for their photoshoot needs and only asked me to have standard residential insurance. However, I feel like if I'm operating the studio renting as a part of my business, I should also have business insurance. I tried working with a commercial insurance agent but the carriers he reached out to required me to ask my customers (the photographers who book my space) for proof that they had business insurance. My only question about that requirement is that there's a huge company here in my city, The Lumen Room, who's been in business for 6 years and now and operates 7 rentable photography studios. I've personally used their studios in the past and they never asked me to provide proof that I had business insurance, although I've always had it for my photo/videography business. I checked their website recently and they still don't ask for proof of insurance unless the person renting their space is hosting an event (groups larger than 10) like a dinner or workshop. Can anyone point me in the right direction here? It seems like anytime I call an insurance carrier and mention that I'm a professional photographer that rents his studio out to others, they have no interest in helping me.

    Thanks in advance!

Insuring two cars: I can't drive both cars at once but they assume I will.

    Posted: 26 Dec 2021 06:05 PM PST

I own two cars and am trying to find a way to reduce my car insurance because i can't drive both cars at once! They are both in my name. Not married. My son lives with me on paper, although he is at school 100 miles away with his own car and own insurance.

One car is worth about $4k so I just carry liability and STILL it's so expensive. Not exact, but for sake of argument the "nice" car with Comp is $500 per 6 mo and the cheap car with just Liability is $400.

    What would you do?

I don't know exactly what my new zip code would be, only the city that I'm moving to. How should I shop for insurance knowing my area is going to change very shortly?

What would happen if a car was stolen? GAP and full coverage.

    Posted: 26 Dec 2021 07:41 PM PST

I recently moved very far down south in Texas. Crime has gotten really bad this year and it has just been getting worse. A few neighbors have had their cars stolen. I have a garage, but have been using it for my bikes and as a workshop so I keep my car outside. I still owe on my vehicle. What would happen if it were stolen? I have comprehensive coverage and GAP. Would GAP just cover the difference and I'm out the deductible, and no money to put a down payment on a new car? It's getting bad out here, I'm not sure if I should rearrange my life to just stick my vehicle in garage.

    Injury Insurance

    Posted: 26 Dec 2021 07:29 PM PST

I was involved in a collision Friday morning on my way to visit family on the holidays. The collision was due to an unknown vehicle losing a tire (probably a spare) rolling down a hill and bouncing off the concrete median- hitting my driver's side window. The tire went through the window and hit me in the face. I have a large laceration across my right cheek. My question is- I currently am covered for personal injury up to 100k. Is this something that I would generally get a large amount of money for? Is this something I should hire a collision attorney for to speak with my insurance company?

    Adding someone to my insurance?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2021 06:18 PM PST

I'll be adding my mother and her car to my insurance because she has no history of insurance and she's a new driver, her rates will be much lower with my own. But what would happen if she were to be in an accident? Would the accident be marked against me as well? And if so would it carry on even after we're insured separately

Question about accident liability while riding in an Uber for work

    Posted: 26 Dec 2021 05:24 PM PST

    CALIFORNIA

Hypothetical situation: a person is an employee of a small rental car service that specializes in deliveries to hotels and private terminals at airports. Due to staffing issues, the company frequently utilizes Uber to shuttle employees either back to the office from a delivery, or from the office to a property to retrieve a returned vehicle. What happens if, during one of these Uber trips, a full-time employee is injured in a car accident? I understand that the driver's personal or commercial insurance would come into play first if there is no commercial use exclusion, and that Uber has liability coverage that is secondary to the driver's. Would the employer have any liability though? Does any of this change if the Uber driver is not at fault?

Driver lying about him operating the vehicle

    Posted: 26 Dec 2021 03:36 PM PST

OK long story short I got in an accident the driver got out of the vehicle was talking to the police given his side of the story while we were getting evaluated from the ambulance found out he lied to the police saying he wasn't the driver the cops believed him. Now insurance is saying we're at fault is there anything I can do to get the guy in trouble for lying to police and making a false police report? I have proof video of him driving and getting out of the vehicle?

Mechanic recommended by GEICO messed up my car, can I bring it elsewhere?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2021 02:58 PM PST

I was hit by a falling tree two months ago. It apparently only did body damage and it took the shop two months to fix. I just picked up the car and it's now throwing "critical malfunction" codes regarding the push button start, and saying the engine is failing to turn over. My key fob was also drained. There's also something rattling around in my door and there's still a dent on the other side of the car.

It's a lease so I am going to call GEICO tomorrow and request that it go to the dealer so they can fix it properly. Do I have to bring it back to the body shop first? Really don't want them touching the engine.

If I move to a completely new state, how do I go about getting insurance outside of open enrollment...Info below.

    Posted: 26 Dec 2021 02:49 PM PST

I'm wanting to move to NY and I'm in IL.

I'm on my own Medicaid. I'm about to lose it due to income. Once I make too much and I'm cut off I'm going to be going through an insurance company since I'm self-employed.

Will my insurance from a company like BlueCross BlueShield be valid in NY if a doctor's office accepts it? There's no reason to have to get new insurance once I move unless nobody accepts the insurance in the new state, right? Am I missing something?

And also, does moving to a new state where nobody within a certain radius accepts the insurance count as a qualifying life event? I ask because I have medicine that I need and if I don't have my mental and physical health decline rapidly.

I aim to look for insurance that's accepted here and in NY if I can.

I'm probably overthinking this honestly. I have a really bad habit of doing this!

    Car Rental Insurance Question

    Posted: 26 Dec 2021 02:45 PM PST

I rented a car through Expedia and bought their collision coverage insurance through them. I got into an accident with this rental car and now have been dealing with this insurance company. I filled out their form regarding the accident. In this form, they asked if I had any other coverage/insurance but I filled out "no".

Later on, I realized that I was added as a additional driver under my dad's auto insurance. Would I need to go back to them and let them know this information or is this not necessary as this is my dad's auto insurance and I am just added as an additional/secondary driver?

Another question is, will the third-party insurance contact my dad's insurance if I provide this information? and will this affect the premium? (I don't want this to happen).

    Thank you in advance!

I (VT) was rear ended by an (NH) uninsured driver. Anything I should know?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2021 02:25 PM PST

I did a quick search on the subreddit and saw POV's from uninsured drivers who caused accidents in NH but not much regarding someone on the receiving end.

I really just want to make sure I'm covering all my bases.

I have all of the other drivers information and DID call the police when I was told they had no insurance (which is legal in NH). Other driver did not try to leave, officer arrived and verified the story on both ends (I was at a full stop yielding to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, other driver did not brake and hit me at a low speed (probably between15-20 mph)). The pedestrian did not stay (young kid and was spooked I think) but it didn't seem to matter. I have the officer's info, other drivers info, and the case number.

All of that has been given to my insurance. They did inform me that since the other driver is uninsured, I would be responsible for the $500 deductible. I am uncertain as to if I will get that back. In addition, if I require a rental, my policy doesn't cover it so I'll be paying out of pocket.

Is there anything else I should do at this stage? The adjustor will see the car on Tuesday and then make a determination as to what should be done then.

I'm also worried that based on the age and mileage of my car that if there is frame damage they could total it out. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it, but with the current used car market I'm quite worried that if they deem the car a loss that I won't be made whole.

Sorry if I missed a similar set of questions in my search for NH/VT collisions.

EDIT: The accident happened in NH, if that makes a difference.

Car lost control on a turn, new driver here...what's next?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2021 02:08 PM PST

    Hey everyone,

On my way to work my car just lost control at a turn (steering wheel went loose and control became very difficult)

The car got beat up pretty badly, I've filed a claim with insurance just waiting for a call back.. took pictures, also filed a police report.

Crazy enough, after this happened, I moved the car forward just a bit to get into the emergency lane. 10 minutes later someone else crashed in the same turn (I also took pics of his car and got his contact info so we can keep each other updated). Then about an hour later another lady slightly lost control, but she managed to regain control.

    Now my questions are...

    1. Is there anything else I should do?
    2. What should I expect going forward? (The Liberty Mutual app says this may be considered a total loss, but I haven't spoken with anyone yet)
    3. Since this happened to someone else moments after, should I seek a lawyer to bring this up to the city and see if this gets resolved?

    I'll attach pics shortly

Merry Christmas to me 3 pipes burst in my farmhouse.

    Posted: 26 Dec 2021 12:28 PM PST

Hey all, I had a multiple pipes burst in my 100 year old farmhouse, I'm not sure the extent of the damage, the kitchen and dining room were both half flooded while I was at my parents for Christmas. My house hasnt been renovated in a long time, and was not in particularly nice shape anyways. I have owned the house for a year and have never made a claim.

By the way I'm in Canada, my kitchen cabinets are soaked through and the subfloor in my dining room is saturated (havent laid floor in there yet). I got my insurance during covid so noone had actually assessed the house, but i feel like if i had a claims person here they would never sell me insurance again. (Only have a woodstove and two radiators for heat). I will attach my insurance document for more help, I was wondering if I should tell my insurance company or not, I technically could just clean it all up and call a plumber, but I feel like this is what insurance is for and Im worried about my walls/flooring.

    Thanks
