Posted: 23 Nov 2021 04:40 PM PST I was just thinking about this idea. A lot of people in the back of their mind I think believe that working for an employer will someday get them rich. That they just have to clip coupons and save save save. I think I realize how flawed this worldview is now. An employer offering you any kind of financial freedom as a pipe dream. An employer does not have your best interests at heart. They could not care less about your dreams of success and riches. In fact, many times it's the opposite they have in mind for you. You have to separate yourself from an employer, that is the goal. You have to put in the work to build your own thing. That is the only way you'll become rich. Make projects of your own and do not rely on your employer for success in life. An employer should just allow for seed money. But they aren't doing you any favors outside of that, they gobble up all your time and pay you as little as possible while getting as much work out of you as they can. You basically have to build/create your own thing in order to get out of that matrix. Or else you are going to be tied to employer your whole life. I see the only way of becoming wealthy is by striking it out on my own and working my ass off to create something of tremendous value. These employer jobs don't exist to make you rich, hell most of them you can barely live on. It's on you to create something of value and hit it out of the ballpark. Ultimately, it is ALL on YOU not your employer. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Have you read Think & Grow Rich? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 04:43 AM PST If so, how long ago did you read it? Are you rich? If not, why not? I ask because I see it recommended quite often. If people are recommending it, I assume they must think it's a great book. So it would be interesting to know what results they got. [link] [comments] |

I'm A good engineer but horrible business man. how to fix that? Posted: 23 Nov 2021 04:47 PM PST Greetings, I have many unsuccessful startups and projects and all had one thing in common, the product which i built was impressive in terms of design and functions. however, i sucked at finding a way to make it profitable or to get investments or to market the products due to lack of funding. I feel like I'm extremely passionate about building Great products but i have no idea what to do after building them. How can i fix this? [link] [comments] |
A list of places to advertise deals/discounts for the upcoming Black Friday or Cyber Monday event Posted: 24 Nov 2021 07:15 AM PST I sell digital products on my website and I am giving a discount on some of them for Black Friday / Cyber Monday so I am making a list of place that allow for such advertisements. So far I've found two popular places,
What are some other places that allow such posts? I am hoping to build a list of such places to be used not only for "Black Friday" promotions but also to post about our products and offerings. Think something like r/startups/ "Share Your Startup" thread. [link] [comments] |
What job made you realise you wanted to become an entrepreneur? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 06:56 AM PST Question very simple and straight forward. Mine was when I worked at an E-commerce that sold spices and after seeing how interesting it was in terms of custom psychology, I fell in love with business. Albeit I've always been a fan of business and was even a graduate in Economics. So what job made you realise you wanted to become an entrepreneur? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Nov 2021 08:13 AM PST After researching and engaging on the subject of entrepreneurship for several years, there seems to be an ambiguity of messaging around the exact vector taken to finding a problem your business is then implemented to solve. We all know we want to solve a painful problem -- but there seems to be a lot of fuzzy space around the steps by which we arrive at this problem (i.e. is it solving our own problem? hunting a segment of the market to find one? doing both by degree? Sitting in a shower one day and letting it hit us, etc.?) So, I wanted to ask the following: what is your general impression at starting first with finding an audience BEFORE finding a problem? Essentially, does the anthropologist come before the problem solver (that finally comes before the solution?) Or am I just talking out of my ass? Thank you kind people [link] [comments] |

Best ways to get the Ultimate decision makers on a call..? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 07:31 AM PST Worked in sales before, quite a few years back. Just starting out on my own now. In order to get anywhere with my project, ultimately i will have to get it signed off by heads of marketing etc. Wondering if there are any shortcuts or sure fire ways to get hold of such people (im aware i could send emails but generally those are tossed to the side) Any tips would be appreciated, thanks! How this company increased their website traffic from 5k traffic to 300k Posted: 24 Nov 2021 07:08 AM PST That simple tool website is PDF Simpli, most of you might have seen it when you search for pdf file conversion. File conversion is a highly competitive space, with over 30 different companies offering the exact same service! The strategy this company used was simpli (just their name, Simpli, get the pun? lol) getting high quality backlinks. Yes, backlinks was the reason the site was able to get a dramatic rise in its organic traffic from 5,000 visitors to around 300,000 visitors in just a span of 24 months. The website started ranking for over 130,000 keywords. Isn't that insane? Imagine ranking your website for 130k keywords, wouldn't that be a total game changer? Most of the time, companies underestimate the power of link building. Of course, link building is not as easy as it sounds. It takes time and effort, and it's often a slow process the first few weeks, but it shoots up like a bamboo very soon (meaning, the efforts start bearing fruits eventually, but when it does, it becomes one of the best investments). One lesson to learn here is that we don't necessarily need to reinvent the wheel of advertising. We have a ton of case studies proving what works well and what doesn't, which can help us give an insight on how we can grow our companies. [link] [comments] |
What do you think of this website? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 06:38 AM PST All this website will be about is telling us whether the Americans are asleep or not. A bulb placed next to the states of California and North Carolina will be switched off from 9:00 PM to 7 :00 AM indicating that they are asleep. (Or we could simply be showing the time for each of these two states. The choice for these two states is because they both are on the far ends of America.) I believe that such a website will benefit redditors who wish to interact, or even avoid having to deal with Americans. [link] [comments] |
Validation of Platform Idea and Raising Investment Posted: 24 Nov 2021 01:16 AM PST I've been working on an idea to help relieve stress for employees working from home. It is a platform that would need an investment to build but the idea is only in a nascent stage and will probably require some refining over time. How do I validate the business potential of my idea? And should I wait to refine it more before starting out or should I develop the initial model and just improve it over time? Also, if someone can help me get connected to investors that would be great. [link] [comments] |

I am sick of University, I want to fimd a mentor but I need help finding one Posted: 23 Nov 2021 02:12 AM PST I am studying Computer Science at Uni. It's bullshit. Everything that is taught I can learn 10 times faster and better online and for free. It pisses me off. Last year I started a dropshipping business and I made 4k in one month. Had to close it for shipping issues, but now I know what I can do. I want to find a job now that still gives me the time to work on my business and learn valuable stuff at the same time. How can I find someone who is rising and needs help from an enthusiast around me? What should I be looking for? [link] [comments] |
Anyone have experience with building review sites? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 01:37 AM PST Hey All, I'm working on a kickstarter and as part of the marketing strategy i'd like to try to funnel traffic/build a mailing list utilizing a review site. Really just an aggregator of popular products in the same niche/category as my own. I've got a fantastic domain name--which means precisely jack all without a site. I know there are a ton of wordpress templates out there, but fumbling through it all and trying to set one up can become a full time job in itself. However for an experienced web developer it might only take a few hours to get something set up. It doesn't have to be the most amazing site, but it should function and provide some useful information to people searching in my niche. I'm thinking product reviews + blog = worth a user's email address. I'd like something that i can regularly update (or post more products to) with relative ease, but also upload a whole bunch of initial product reviews from the get-go. What do you think is a reasonable budget to get something like this up and running? Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Job title suggestion for a startup-y project at a large corporation? Posted: 23 Nov 2021 06:53 PM PST We're starting a very large project for a large corporation (70,000+ employees). The project is brand new, but the company is very old. We'll have a small to medium sized chunk of equity in the project and expect it will eventually go public as a separate entity. My friend and long time business associate is the lead for the project, and is using President as his job title. He's bringing me along for this, and I'll be second in command basically. I wrote in Senior Vice President for now, but wonder if there's something better? I've been in startup-land my whole life, not really sure how titles work in a large corporation. I guess my concern is that as we grow and our executive team expands that there will be other SVP's and my second in command role won't seem as special? :) Thanks for any advice! [link] [comments] |
Do you want to become wealthy or do you want to become an entrepreneur? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 04:31 AM PST From reading many posts on this sub I get the impression that many want to be an entrepreneur simply to get more money. If it can get you more money, then why wouldn't you, right? But is that the case for the average person on here? If your main desire is wealth, then there are other ways to achieve that. I reached financial freedom mainly from my job and investing. I had a few side hustles along the way that helped me get there sooner. But I would have got there with just a job. I'm not trying to put anyone off being an entrepreneur. If that's what you want, then go for it. Before you do that you should think deeply about why you're doing it. If it's for wealth, then is this the easiest and quickest way to achieve it? Often it's not. Another thing I notice is that many people on here try to start businesses where they lack even a basic understanding of what's involved. If you want to start a business, you need to understand what you're doing. You can learn along the way, but if you don't know the basics, maybe you'd be better off sticking with a day job and gaining more experience. People on here that start POD, dropshipping, web development, and similar things almost all fail. Despite this, these are the main things that people start. It should be obvious that with such a high failure rate that you're also very likely to fail. The only ones that succeed will be the ones that understand these niches. So, think carefully about why you want to be an entrepreneur, and think carefully about what business you want to start. That way you're more likely to succeed. Don't jump into the latest fad just because you read that one person made money from it. And don't jump into it because you hate your day job. It's easy enough to change your job. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Nov 2021 12:10 AM PST I have an idea for a clothing business but I really don't know where to go from here. I also don't know if I should bring it up to my friends or family. How does someone bring this idea to life? [link] [comments] |
4 hour worokweek worth reading? Posted: 23 Nov 2021 08:14 PM PST I'm currently on chapter 1 of the "4 hour workweek" by Tim Ferris, and so far i hate it. He's just talking all the things he did, and it reads like a huge pat on rhe back. The 1st chapter is just him basically saying "look how cool and smart I am. I got into Princeton with a lower than avg SAT score, teehee" Is it worth reading further? It's a shame cause it was recommended to me by someone. [link] [comments] |
How Do Businesses Get Away With Copyright? Posted: 23 Nov 2021 11:18 PM PST I see so many popup internet stores with anime gear including characters, NBA jerseys, and a ton of other things that I believe overstep copyright laws; however, I don't understand how do these individuals get away with it? Working Through the "Great Resignation" Posted: 23 Nov 2021 10:26 AM PST I've been researching and reading some articles on the so-named "Great Resignation" that's been going on since earlier this year in order to become more informed and understand for myself why there are such great numbers of people who have voluntarily chosen to leave their jobs and what the common grievances are that have led to these mass resignations. So far, I've seen this happening at the corporate level with more well-known companies, but I've been thinking about how the "Great Resignation" has been affecting small business owners and entrepreneurs? Is there anyone in the subreddit who has directly, or even indirectly, felt the repercussions of the "Great Resignation" on their business? If so, how did you manage to work through the crisis, or how are you managing to work through the crisis presently? I would be interested in hearing your experiences and any insights or advice you may have to offer. Thanks, all! [link] [comments] |
