I totaled my vehicle after falling asleep on the interstate.. i did not call the police. will insurance cover me?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 06:53 AM PST

last night i fell asleep at the wheel on the interstate, waking up just before blowing through an exit sign.. my car never stopped and i went right through it and kept driving home, it was my exit after all..

i didn't call the police because i truly didn't know what they do about people who fall asleep at the wheel. i was close to home so i went!

without a police report would i still be able to be covered? i have full coverage but i'm just not familiar with all of this. if you know anything about this it would be super appreciated to leave a reponse! thank you!

HOA is about to lose its Master Insurance. What does that mean for me as a condo owner there?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 09:29 AM PST

HOA is about to lose its Master Insurance. The other owners do not want to pay the extra fee to cover the insurance and no one is really responding to my meeting request. Is there a type of standalone master insurance that I can purchase to save myself if we can't come to a consensus?

Not at fault for accident, my insurance is low balling me

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 08:35 AM PST

I was hit by red light runner and I have dash cam footage.

Police viewed footage and gave other driver a ticket.

Red light runner also hit two other cars.

I immediately filed a claim with my insurance.

My insurance is offering me $11k minus $800 because it has a previously cracked rear bumper, minus $500 deductible so $9,700.

Is this how insurance is supposed to work? Why am I paying a deductible when I'm the victim?

KBB says my vehicle is worth $13k. Edmunds.com and cars.com shows prices around $13k to $14k.

I can't buy a car for $9,700. My life is going to be ruined by this red light runner.

2 at fault accidents in less than a year in michigan

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 08:19 AM PST

No injuries in either. First car was totaled and progressive had to pay 16 grand to me. This accident was with a tree. Second accident just recently happened and I rear ended someone. My car is pretty fucked up although no airbags went off somehow. The other car looks fine. I have progressive. My question is will I be cancelled? I am freaking out here. Some more details. Was in an accident 5 years ago where it was my fault as well and progressive had to pay me 2500 to total my car. No other violations in this time. I am a 39 year old in Michigan who up until the past year had a generally decent driving record. I had been paying a hundred and thirty or so a month for full coverage. This is in Michigan . Thanks

    Price Matching/Paying difference for OEM

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 07:35 AM PST

Following up from this post. TL;DR — was rear ended in MD and am going through my own insurance.

The body shop I took my Golf to noticed that the estimate was written for an aftermarket bumper and told me that I could ask GEICO to get an OEM bumper authorized.

Other posts here say that it's unlikely they'll approve since you need an OEM endorsement and that I should have the body shop price match with a dealer. The cost difference appears to be $50 based on the aftermarket on the estimate and a bumper cover on VW's parts site.

Does anyone have experience with if VW will price match said parts or if MD allows me to pay the difference to get OEM parts installed? I noticed that the posts say most Domestic and Asian brands do, but VW isn't either.

Home insurance sending someone out to take pictures today -- should I do anything to prepare?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 06:00 AM PST

I'm a little "peeved" that they would spring this on me last minute on a holiday weekend. Wednesday evening I got what I thought was a spam call from an inspector hired by my home insurance company, and he said he'd be coming by this afternoon to take photos of the exterior of my townhome.

I had a few questions I was hoping to get advice on:

    • he said it wasn't necessary for me to be there... Is there any benefit to being there? I need to run errands today but is it worth hanging around until he's shown up?

    • should I do anything to the house before the photos are taken? Unfortunately I have a ton of leaves in my gutters right now due to the weather (strong winds here on east coast last couple days) and don't have a ladder to clean them out in time but just curious whether that sort of stuff matters or what they are actually looking for with these photos. Are there any things I should do in preparation before he arrives?

    Thanks!

Aetna rejected claim for hospitalization of my newborn with insurance that is being terminated at end of month after being laid off.

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 09:16 PM PST

Hi all, I am a sole earner at job and was terminated in November, with aetna health insurance lasting till end of month given termination.

Wife was 9 months pregnant and just delivered a healthy baby with a 48 hour hospitalization, no major complications. Aetna just sent a notice saying that the claim for the baby was rejected because the dependent (newborn) is not enrolled in the plan...

    See here: https://imgur.com/a/4O5H1Ba

This is obvious because I can't actually enroll the child until they're born. So this is a qualifying life event, but unfortunately I can no longer login to the employers HR website since i was terminated at the beginning of the month.

What would be my course of action here so i don't have a 20,000$ bill?

Should I email the employers HR asking to add the newborn manually, or give me access?

Should I call aetna and explain to them that I am no longer employed there?

I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing since both places are closed and there is only 2 days left in the month with this insurance.

    Thank you.

My rental company, insurance company, and mechanic are all communicating really poorly after my accident.

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 02:43 PM PST

I had a tree fall on my car on 10/16. I brought it in 10/19 for repairs and was given an estimate of two weeks. That time frame has since continued to grow and now they're telling me 12/4.

My rental ran out on 11/17. I keep getting calls from the rental company telling me they can't get in contact with the insurance company, so I tried calling the insurance company and they called the mechanic and got them to agree to pay for my rental until the repairs are done. Now the rental company just called and left a message to let me know they're charging me $600 for an extension of the rental. This was five minutes before they closed so I couldn't call back and talk to them.

I sent a message to my claims adjuster and the mechanic asking them to talk to the rental company because I am clearly of no use. The rental place is literally in the same fucking building as the mechanic. I'm really angry and stressed out and now have a pending $600 charge on my credit card I can't do anything about.

Is this typical? Are they all so incompetent and clueless? How hard would it be for the Geico rep to call the rental place and tell them this information? How hard would it be for Enterprise to walk next door and figure it out with the mechanic?

Do I have to give the hospital / my surgeon my secondary insurance?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 09:26 PM PST

I am 21 and am on my fathers insurance. Due to finding out I have gallstones after a trip to the ER I decided to get my own insurance since his has a high deductible of 6500.00. My new plans deductible is 1400.00 and the out of pocket max is 2850.00. I am getting surgery to get this thing removed however recently found out that with double coverage they will apply both plans deductibles. Am I required to give them my secondary (my dads insurance)? I would prefer not to pay anything more than the 2850.00.

    Florida Blue BluOption High PPO

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 08:46 PM PST

Hey guys. So I have keratoconus in both of my eyes, and my right eye I am legally blind in while my left eye was progressing to that stage. 2 doctors proficient in their fields both deemed my condition a degenerative disease needing attention ASAP before I literally go essentially blind in both my eyes. The surgery for this disease is called Corneal Crosslinking. A non-invasive procedure involving me lying underneath a UV light and having medical drops inserted into my eyes for an hour while the UV light literally "bakes" the solution and my eye to crosslink. This stops the disease from getting worse, and allows for me to be prescribed Scleral contact lenses and then I can actually see.

Well I get the first surgery, after having two professionals deem it a medical necessity, and the insurance decides to cover the procedure, but not the actual medicine used during the procedure. So I filed an appeal, and came back to the doctor a month later to do the surgery on my other eye. They stoped me and told me the insurance had decided to not cover anything at all in the next procedure. I told them to bill me monthly until I can get my insurance to cooperate. They agreed and did the surgery.

I came back in 3 months later (about a week ago) and they told me that they appealed for me multiple times, but now the insurance has rescinded all coverage for even the procedure in the first go around, so now even more is being billed to me. The insurance claims that they do not deem my surgeries as medically necessary.

I am here to ask how that is, whenever I was literally quickly going blind at 22 years old, and even had not one, but two separate doctors flag my surgeries as medically necessary? I am so confused and honestly wondering if legal action may need to be taken, I have just never had these issues and I wanted any advice I could get. The name of my insurance is the title, and I pay about $900 a month on this insurance through my employer for both my wife and I. So about $450 each.

Thanks for any and all advice!

Will insurance cover extremely poor & unsafe work from a homebuilder? If not, I have to file for bankruptcy

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 08:43 AM PST

In anticipation of moving to Baltimore, I bought a house and hired a contractor to tear down the existing house and build a new one. It has been a complete disaster. There was a sewage leak that they let sit for weeks; the mold inspector we hired said that a lot of the work that has been done needs to be replaced. Some beams didn't seem to be installed correctly; we called a structural engineer who said it is unsafe and shouldn't pass inspection. They didn't build sections of the house we paid for, and are now trying to bill us for things we never asked for (there are architectural drawings we had agreed upon). Also, it was supposed to be done by mid-October, but they still haven't even put the sheathing up on the second floor; we are supposed to be compensated for any delays, but they say they won't be doing that. These are just some of the bigger issues we've had, but there's a lot more.

A few weeks ago we told the builder that they need to pay to remediate these issues and build it right. They refused to do any remediation, despite being given reports from the mold inspector, structural engineer, the architect, and a home inspector. We said we weren't comfortable with them doing any more work, and it now looks like we're parting ways.

We've reached out to our home insurance, but were told they don't cover poor workmanship by a contractor. We called the builder's insurance company, and they said that they only cover injuries on the job, not poor workmanship. We've been told that we are just out of luck. Since the original house was torn down, we're now underwater on the house. And we don't have the money to hire a new builder to do it properly. Do we really have no recourse?

I got my car repaired through one of Allstate's direct repair shop

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 07:21 PM PST

My front fender and left wheel was hit and run and wont steer so I sent it in for repair choosing one of their network shops. It took them 3 weeks to repair because of "parts delay" (Bumper iirc). I took my car and find out that the parts was the same as before and they just painted over the damage.

A week after driving, now I'm hearing a creaking sound when turning and when im accelerating from a dead stop. Im guessing they did a shoddy repair on the suspension too. I want the insurance to repair again or at least get a post repair inspection since they guarantee the repair but would like to choose a different shop thats also part of their network. Is it possible or Im stuck with the first shop?

Will insurers skip the requirement to replace items if I agree to get paid 50% of what I would get if I replace the items in personal contents home insurance?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 03:58 PM PST

We've already been paid the amount we get before replacing items (actual cost value). I'm wondering if instead of going through all the bother of sending in receipts for over 1,000 items if they would just pay 50% (or higher) of the remaining replacement cost value if we agree to forfeit the other 50%.

Does an LLC name change terminate professional liability coverage?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 03:37 PM PST

I just learned my employer amended (not terminated) their LLC name (omitted one word in the name) but didn't update their professional liability coverage with the new name until renewal.

Does this have the potential to jeopardize our insurance coverage for the period between the name change and notifying the insurer?

I can't find specific wording in the policy.

No other material changes to the business. Washington State.

    Thanks for any information.

    Who keeps the extra money?

I'm in California and recently totalled our leased car. The insurance settlement amount is about 10k more than the buyout on the loan. Who will keep that "above water" equity?

Help with car insurance after getting hit by a truck

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 09:22 AM PST

Hey everyone, first time posting here so please be gentle :)

Recently, my parents were driving and got hit by a semi-truck driving down the Hwy-401 (in Ontario, Canada). At the time, my parents had crossed the semi driving around 100km/h and after a couple minutes, the truck side-swiped the rear of the car resulting in some pretty bad damage while trying to change lanes. Some of the damage was the read passenger door can't be opened, the alloy rim is badly damaged (unsure if there are any underlying issues because of this), and the rear bumper has scratches and dents to death. Funny enough after getting hit, the trucker came out and requested that we deal with this privately and not include insurance or police but luckily my parents had called the police by that time.

Luckily, we had a dash cam also and all of this is recorded but we're having some troubles dealing with insurance as they have not determined liability yet and are setting a limit on how long we can keep the rental car since this was our only car.

Talking to the body shop they recommended, they are thinking of totalling the car (2015 Honda Civic w/ 120,000KM) which was well maintained and only service by Honda themselves.

We treated this car really nicely and were thinking of using it until junking it but sadly that may not be possible. We believe the insurance may give $12,000CAD which may not be enough to purchase another car due to taxes and other upgrades we had made on our car.

Any advice on how to deal with this will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Turned down for car insurance renewal by underwriters with previous insurance company back in Jan 2021, now my parents have been refused house insurance because of this - advice/help needed please

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 09:49 AM PST

So my previous Car Insurance was due to expire at the end of January this year, and the company I was insured by emailed to say that the underwriters declined to offer a renewal, no reason was given for this, I went elsewhere and got insured by another provider no problem.

Flash forward to today and my parents are trying to take out a new deal on their home insurance, however because my mum was a named driver on the policy with the previous Car Insurance company and that no reason was given by the underwriters as to why they didn't offer a renewal, now my parents can't take out new house insurance with their current provider.

I've called the previous insurer to try and find out what the reason was, all they would say was that 'there was no reason, this just happens sometimes', very disappointing, and also they can't ask the underwriters what the reason was either, I'm not sure where to go from here, has anyone experienced anything similar before??
