Not getting paid by customer small business

Not getting paid by customer small business

    Not getting paid by customer

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 07:28 AM PST

Looking for advice here, I have been hired as a sub for a company to do various odd jobs. I invoice them in a timely manner but they always require a follow up call in order to pay their bill. Always.

I am a small business of one and with each call to this company, I become more and more frustrated that I have to call them in order for them to pay. Last time I called I got pretty nasty with the person in charge of billing, to the point where I told her I was about done working for them if this issue did not get resolved. Low and behold, they are two weeks past due on their most recent invoice and I'll be calling her on Monday to issue a payment.

I have two jobs scheduled in the next two weeks for this company and am debating just canceling them and telling them I don't want to work for them anymore since they can't get me paid.

I'm looking for advice and feedback on what my best course of action might be, or what others would do in this situation. Thanks!

Thinking of starting a pressure washing and gutter cleaning business

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 10:26 AM PST

I'm thinking of leaving my very stressful job that pays $81,000 per year to start a pressure washing and gutter cleaning business. Is that a dumb idea? I know I can get business very fast with direct mail and online advertising and have all that it takes to do the work.

    Starting from nothing

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 02:03 AM PST

So the title says it all.

I want to get a truck (smaller than cdl) and just do deliveries but work for myself. I have no idea where to start. I have a truck lined up, a potential contract, and a bit set aside if I fall flat on my face.

Should I make a formal business or would it be better to just get a 1099 from the people that I work with? I am terribly afraid of the legal stuff and don't want to lose everything so I'm trying to not screw this up.

Small woodworking/luthier shop looking for IT/automation ideas to improve efficiency

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 06:13 AM PST

I'm a small business owner (one person musical instrument repair shop), and I've been recently debating taking some IT classes that might help my business operate more efficiently. My state and county recently passes a free community college bill, so I'm fairly sure I can take any classes for free, at least for the moment.

My question is this; are there any basic programming/networking skills that you would recommend to a small business owner with very limited programing networking experience? Most of my businesses tech infrastructure is built around advertising on social media platforms, invoice/accounting, and project/material research. I also have plans to purchase a CNC and 3d printer in the near future as well.

I love the idea of automating certain aspects of my work to free up more time at the workbench, since that's where the money is made. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

How long can I go without a cash register?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 07:34 AM PST

Been in business for 6 months (service industry) and the majority of my regular income is via checks & cc payments. I do keep a small bit of cash on hand for change when people do pay cash however I usually just round the bill up to an even amount to limit the need for change. Doing this seems to be the easier way to go but is this feasible for the long run?

Looking for a group or to form a group of people who want to improve financially together. (read desc)

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 05:35 AM PST

    Hello all,

So I have personally started 3 companies that all failed, I am almost 30 now and from all that I have been through I think the thing that is missing is network and using the network.

Currently I decided I am not interested in a building a company, I just want to generate revenue.

This is a wild chase but I was wondering if there are other people who want to do the same but need help for X,Y or Z. Essentially a group of people to match their skills to double on every chance.

I am not trying to sell you anything, I am just looking to find a group like this or create one.

What I can offer? I am a software engineer for 12 years so nothing technical should ever stop us.

Level 2 trading? Flipping NFTs? Real Estate? Dropshipping? Forex? I am open to everything as long as we can double.

I live in Europe/Berlin I believe being in the same continent would be advantageous but not a requirement.

If I can not find any group like this, then I aim to make one.

    Thank you!

Should I start when suppliers are already selling direct to consumers at a very low price?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 09:13 AM PST

Let's start this off by saying I'm broke. But someone might give me some money and I thought of doing this.

So in my country, there's a website like amazon and suppliers or straight from factory items are already sold there. But others who also buy from factories also sell there. These straight from factory items are really cheap and cost of shirt is about $1 and I know I can't compete with that. But I also see some sellers sell the same thing who sell it a little bit higher but of course the number of sales that they have is smaller than the cheap item.

Knowing this, is it still wise to try and go on with this? The only reason why I'm thinking of pushing through this is it's not my money. And I'm also thinking of just starting small. About $60 of stock. And $40 for the label maker. What do you think?

    Needing a bookkeeper.

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 12:27 PM PST

Hello again everyone. First and foremost I wanted to say that I appreciate everyone in this sub. You guys have helped me with a number of things and I appreciate it.

I am in need of a bookkeeper. I work all day out on the field and the last thing I want to do when I get home is jump on my computer and sort through receipts. I need someone who can take care of all itemizing, taxes, and whatever else a bookkeeper can do for me. I had a bookkeeper for the past couple of years but she has always done subpar work and ever since COVID hit it seems like I have to always remind her to take care of my books.

Where I live, it seems like a lot of small businesses are in search of a decent bookkeeper. There seems to be a gap in the market for companies that are my size. Which is relatively small to say the least but I do require more attention than say a flea market vendor. I am looking for someone who will be pro active and keep my books in compliance. I also have some catching up do to so there will be a decent amount of work initially. Once I am caught up, I will need somebody to keep things in check on a monthly and quarterly basis.

Are there trustworthy online bookkeeping services? Or is there anybody who you would recommend? I understand that searching for somebody online is a bit risky and honestly I would rather not do it this way but I feel I have no other choice.

    Thank you

Should I form an LLC for my online business?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 12:20 PM PST

It's just me and I was wondering if there were benefits to operating under an LLC outside of me personally not being able to be sued by a client directly?

I wanted to used the LLC for my freelance editing, design and animation work along with selling ebooks and coaching. Do I even need to worry about an LLC for this? Are there better tax breaks?

Why register a Delaware LLC when you have to register an LLC in the state you live and operate in anyway?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 09:42 AM PST

I've heard that Delaware has the best laws for starting an LLC for a variety of reasons, and that if you had to pick a state to start an LLC, it's the go to.

But! It seems like if I'm a California resident for example, living, working, and operating in California, a Delaware LLC doesn't really matter, because I would have to also register a California LLC (more expensive, less protections, generally a pain in the rear) since I'm doing business in that state.

What's the point of the Delaware LLC then? Is there some sort of business strategy that makes them useful to someone who operates out of a different state than Delaware?

How do you use a Delaware LLC to your advantage as a small business?

Starting a biz that offers other business leads/partnerships

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 10:45 AM PST

I own a business that has a few different websites and social media that produce 1000s of unique visitors per day. All these sites funnel eyes on to my business website which turns into calls/leads.

The problem? Has anyone ever opened up a business, turn the lights on, open the door and become FLOODED with work requests? Basically I proceeded to do a "soft opening" this October and found out I was severely overwhelmed with requests.. This got me thinking...

My business offers a home improvement service. I won't go into the details of what the business does but it's a quick one day service and there are many other contractors in the same service I'm providing. These services become shuttered winter time.

I wanted to see how to have some other similar companies sign up to recieve these leads. Like selling franchises and my name of the business so now that company can do work under my name along with displaying signage?

I would be ok letting a few other contractors farther away from my work area get leads from my site while I take a finders fee or percentage of the contract. Nothing huge. But yeah... it's crazy if you really find a website name, make a great page and go live. It's better to blow up and have this problem instead of crickets

    Advice?

Does Commercial Property Insurance cover Stolen customer property?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 09:52 AM PST

My mom's small business (dry cleaners) in toronto got robbed and they stole customers' expensive clothes (winter jackets, dresses, etc.).

We do have insurance but it's a saturday and the insurance companys not working until Monday, so they're not picking up their phone to answer questions.

It says that there's a coverage limit of $25,000 with a $2,500 deductible for customer's property. Does this include STOLEN customer property?

The thief stole a lot of winter jackets, which could easily be thousands of dollars to replace.. Just curious if anyone know if this can be covered with insurance. Thanks!

    Late Quarterly taxes

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 09:03 AM PST

I have been running a small (one person, me) business in Illinois, US all year. I filed papers to incorporate (S Corp) last December and started making sales after the first of the year. I'm new to this and dropped the ball paying quarterly taxes. Gross sales range $1500-$3000 per month.

    I have a few questions:

How do I start to fix this?

What should I expect for penalties/fees?

Are there free tutorials to learn how to do this myself? I have looked before but I can't decide how to vet the information. I'm even willing to pay to learn, but not sure what sources are trustworthy, especially since tax laws change so frequently.

If I want to pay someone to do the books and taxes in the future, what kind of professional should I be looking for? Just an accountant? CPA?

And a bonus question - I need to renew my S Corp soon and I'd like to do it myself. Where can I learn how to do this? Again, I am apprehensive of sources' accuracy.

    Thanks for your guidance!

LLC ownership after being filed with the state?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 05:10 AM PST

After registering and creating your LLC, is there any paperwork/legal documents you filed out to say "I own XYZ corp" or are you the owner by default?

I have a single-member LLC and after founding it I assumed I was the defacto owner, is this true?

Is there a random website where I can create a USPS manifest (scan sheet) for multiple orders?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 07:41 AM PST

Etsy won't let me create a scan sheet because the orders are day late going out (thanksgiving)

My postal worker just called me and said "I really hope you have a scan sheet today"

I was only able to add 48 packages to it but there are 10 that won't let me put on the form.

    Help?
