anyone else trolling reddit because they couldn't take PTO today? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 06:37 AM PST I just started at a new co (in industry). And today i find myself trolling reddit because I'm still within the "you cant PTO your first 60 days window" So now I'm trolling reddit; burning time until its reasonable for me to sign off for the day. They really should just let me take the PTO. [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Nov 2021 06:58 PM PST I love all of you. You're all just a bunch of sarcastic nerds and I just love it. There isn't a single post here without a whacked out comment that makes my day. That is all. Carry on. [link] [comments]

Accidentally turned on camera during client meeting… Posted: 23 Nov 2021 04:39 PM PST My bra was right behind me and so now all the client staff and my team have seen my bra. FML. How do I recover from this? Anyone else got any embarrassing WFH stories to share? [link] [comments]

Aspiring accountant advice please? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 05:26 AM PST Hi people! Judging from other posts in this topic/section(sorry, amateur poster), you'll think I'm insane but I actually WANT to be an accountant. Got into sorting out books and bills helping out at a previous job and the office admin told me there was a name for what I was doing and to study accounting. Completed B124 with the OU(I'm in the UK) and soon starting a college-course for an AAT foundation(level 2). Aiming to go into financial accounting, I lack the people skills to go into management accounting, just want to do spreadsheets, graduated gcse maths a year early and taught myself excel to give you an idea. I'm on some kind of spectrum, struggle with reading between the lines and eye contact. I'm over 30 too, with no official experience. Do you reckon I have any chance at all of someday getting a job with a firm that can teach me the ropes/help me gain confidence? Is there any other course I should do? Is ability enough or is there no hope if I'm bad with office politics? [link] [comments]
What is Transaction Services - FDD actually? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 09:11 AM PST Hi, What is TS - FDD exactly and is it really better than audit? [link] [comments]

What crazy power does your local tax authority do? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 03:09 AM PST The Australian Taxation Office can legally -take money from your bank account -check your cell phone tower connection against travel claims -force companies in Australia to provide customer information to them, such as any crypto exchange [link] [comments]
Is all talent gone from public accounting ? Posted: 23 Nov 2021 10:53 AM PST It seems like the good seniors have left the firms. Has COVID ruined public accounting? Now it seems only new hires and people on visas are left(they are trapped and no options, BDO does this heavy). I blame the greedy partners (those with draws over 500k a year, and not willing to share with employees) Solutions to problems? Four- day work week, paid overtime, no weekends, 40 hour workweek, bonuses, higher salaries, access to early promotion and partnership track. We don't need the pizza party! Also, don't feel guilty about quitting now or during busy season, don't forget how they fired a bunch of people during COVID/pay cuts while they set record revenue growth. [link] [comments]
You guys are getting pizza parties? Posted: 23 Nov 2021 08:42 AM PST My work just sent out an email letting us know that they would be catering Christmas dinner and if we wanted to come, it's $10. [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Nov 2021 09:29 PM PST Hi guys! To clarify, I'm not an accountant-- I'm just looking for gift recommendations for my sister who is one. She works at an accounting firm as a CPA doing external audit. I looked up some gift suggestions online and came up with insulated bottles, foot hammocks, mugs, anti-radiation glasses, noise-cancelling headphones, and other things like that. They seem generic (?), so I thought to ask here if there's something that made your work easier, or something you wish you bought earlier? Thank you to everyone who took the time to read this! I would really appreciate any response as the gift-giving season is approaching. ( 〃..)♡ [link] [comments]
Canadians at B4, What was you average in University? (GTA) Posted: 24 Nov 2021 04:58 AM PST 90% average here. Recruiting events are held at my school and we have campus ambassadors for each of the B4. Can't even get an interview. I am mind blown at how competitive this is. I went to a recruiting event last night on zoom that instantly filled with 500 people. [link] [comments]
Has anyone done quick consulting projects for other companies? How did it go? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 09:50 AM PST I did 2 years at a big4 in a few different types of tax as well as M&A. Now I'm in industry and am perfectly happy with my role, however, I keep getting messages on LinkedIn about consulting opportunities for just 1hr of my time at a high rate. Honestly I'm down for the extra money, but I wanted to see if anyone else has done that before in my situation (specifically being that I only really have 2 years of associate/acting senior exp) and if it was worth it or if it turned out to be more of a headache lol. Posted: 24 Nov 2021 04:09 AM PST My daughter is in college. She worked a summer job and only made a few hundred dollars at that. Her dad (noncustodial parent) put voluntary child support directly in her bank account to pay for her tuition and medical bills and basically living. She is 18 years old so I understand that here in PA the money from him is considered a gift and not child support. Here is my question. Does she need to file taxes even though that income is not taxed? [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Nov 2021 09:04 AM PST Grandparent passed away 2016, property was transferred over through courts 2018. What date do I use to calculate basis for capital gains? Is there an "average" that's used? [link] [comments] |
