Posted: 01 Oct 2021 04:05 PM PDT Not posting this to come off as a whiner. Just talking since I have one else to talk to. My business is service based and majority of it is done from home. I have some remote staff and contractors, but otherwise I'm home alone in my office. Anyone have any tricks to not go crazy being alone all day during the week? When I worked in an office environment, I was the type of person to socialize all around the office, so this is a large adjustment for me. Been doing it for about 18 months and it's starting to affect my mental health. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Hiring an ex business owner as an employee Posted: 01 Oct 2021 02:39 PM PDT Hi all, wasn't sure if this is the place to post since I am technically a small business but here it goes. I am the owner of a small grooming business in my town. The owner of another similar business approached me asking to take her on as an employee because she has decided running her own is too stressful and she would rather be an employee. She has her own clients list already and I was mainly wondering how this would work? I would love to take her on as an employee . She's very skilled and friendly and has a pretty good following on social media. My problem is I don't know what to do about her clients or what she will be expecting? Would I need to buy her clients from her? Or pay her extra for clients she previously had? All advice is welcome and appreciated! Thanks! [link] [comments] |
My uncle's 7-11 had it's SNAP license suspended. How does he get it back? Posted: 01 Oct 2021 07:51 PM PDT Pretty much what it says. My uncle runs a 7-11. Some of his employees got too friendly with some locals and started charging some stuff they shouldn't have to EBT, USDA found out and suspended him for 6 months. How does he get his license back? He can't figure it out and after hours of research, I can't either. The suspension ended in August but he's not showing up in the database. Does he need to hire a lawyer? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2021 11:25 AM PDT I am having a hard time picking a CRM. Here are the ideal features I would like in an CRM. Customizable Forms and live Chat Have an easy to use interface Be able to sync with google contacts, phone.com and maybe square That's it. Hubspot operations can do that, but it's 800 a month. That's about my total sales in a month! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Oct 2021 11:33 AM PDT I'm starting a small business in the uk selling my art as products such as stickers, prints etc. Any tips or suggestions or anything would be helpful!! Something I'm trying to figure out is the legal stuff so any info or YouTube videos on that would be great. [link] [comments] |
Having a hard time deciding on a business idea Posted: 01 Oct 2021 09:22 AM PDT So 2 friends and I are trying to get into business together ( I know you shouldn't mix business with family and friends). We all have similar but different skills, which are blue collar. I'm more technical with my background while two others are more mechanical and labor. Our area is growing rapidly with a large agricultural and manufacturing industries with IT getting its fair share. We haven't been able to make an idea stick. Funding is a little tight atm so something that would take less then 10k to start and has good growth and income would be ideal. If more info is needed I'll be happy to share. EDIT: appreciate everyone's comments, yeah I made this post a bit vague so here's more. I'm currently a OTR Truck driver and although the money is good, the lifestyle isn't. I'm also an experienced welder with backgrounds in engineering and computer drafting. My friends are mechanics and sales writers both have families so I'm confident in there backing. From what I've seen I'm not trying to get rich quick, not my intention in fact I don't really need a high income to sustain myself, more or less I don't want a 9-5 and stay a drone. Experiences incorporating new tech into business operations? Posted: 01 Oct 2021 07:58 PM PDT I'm working on a project to help small businesses integrate new tech into their operations. For any small business owners, what type of technologies have you implemented and how useful have they been? How was the process of incorporating the technologies into your business? Are there any new technologies that you plan to add to your operations in the future? [link] [comments] |
Questions about forming an LLC out of state - I'm actually not sure where I "conduct business" Posted: 01 Oct 2021 10:04 AM PDT I'm not sure if this is the right sub to post in, if not please let me know a better option. I've done some searching but haven't found my answers. Ok, so I've had a part time gig with a California company for 7-8 years as a 1099 contractor, but they're now requiring that I'm an LLC to continue. It seems to make the most sense to register my LLC in California due to reasons stated below, but the $800 per year fee really sucks, especially because this gig is only paying $15-20k per year. Friends have suggested that I can register out of state but I'm not sure. Here are the details about why I'm not sure where to register: The company that hires me is in California. Their lawyer thinks I should register my LLC in California for this reason but he isn't sure. My paychecks come from the parent company of the California company, which is in Virginia. I send my invoices to the California office though, and they forward to VA. I get hired to travel, and my work is 90% in MA and PA. I don't actually do any work in CA. I'm fairly nomadic but my legal residence is still in California (using a family members mailing address). I'm planning to officially move late 2022 to either WA or UT. I pay my taxes in CA for now. I'm currently living with a girlfriend in Washington and my vehicle is registered here. From what I've read, the LLC should be formed where "business is conducted," but where is that for me? To me this sounds like monetary transaction rather than the actual work, so it could be CA or maybe a stretch to be VA. Let's say California is where I officially conduct business, is it worth forming the LLC out of state? From what I'm reading, it seems I still have to register as a foreign entity in CA, so likely the fees would start adding up and wouldn't be worth the complication. Or would this be worth it, and do I have to do taxes in both states? TLDR: A California company wants me to be an LLC to be able to work for them. The work takes place in MA and PA. Paychecks come from VA. I live in WA but official address is in CA. Where do I form the LLC and can I avoid CA? [link] [comments] |
Can you see who applied for a business license by searching their name? Posted: 01 Oct 2021 09:27 PM PDT Someone found out my friend was applying for a business license and we don't know how they found out. My friend never told them the name of the business or that they were starting a business (it was a pretty big secret, no one else knew), yet this other person found out somehow.. how would they have known? I hope this is the right sub for this! So sorry if not, but I'd love any thoughts! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2021 09:25 AM PDT Hello everyone, I would like to start a cleaning business and recently moved to NYC. My biggest issue is how will I travel to meet clients with my equipment. I don't have a car and take the subway, driving in New York also scars me. Any advice will be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Thinking about leasing my first space, have some questions. Posted: 01 Oct 2021 09:13 AM PDT The space I want to lease is in pretty bad shape. Ideally it needs new paint, flooring, window treatments and light fixture. However there are almost no spaces like this in the area I live in so I don't feel like there's a lot of room for me to negotiate the price. The property manager said I'm welcome to make changes but never suggested any price negotiations. Should I try to negotiate or just take the space and eat the costs? It's a small space for $495 a month right now thinking of signing a one year lease, or I should probably go longer if I make a bunch of improvements. I would be moving an already successful existing practice to the space. [link] [comments] |
Small claims against radio station - small bill Posted: 01 Oct 2021 05:54 PM PDT I am in west Canada and am owed $150 by a radio station. I have emails from the manager acknowledging the invoice but it's 3 months now and they just won't pay it. It is the principle of it for me, over 2m in sales in 5 years in business now and we got screwed for about $500 total but those were misunderstandings where we settled on amounts, they weren't my fault but the customers were so difficult we let them have their discount. I'll pay $100 to file, I can't get my time back but I can win the filing fee and the $150. As a very small business, landscaping by the way, nothing upsets me more than a client jerking us around with money. When we have a late payment if it gets ignored, emailing saying I'll come deliver a paper invoice in person and ask for a cheque gets it done usually. Since it's a successful radio station I am sure they will have a hard time not paying if they lose, it is worth the time for me personally. Just wondering if anyone has experiences suing over really small amounts over principal and if it was worth it for you? [link] [comments] |
Need advice setting up for local orders Posted: 01 Oct 2021 05:17 PM PDT I own a small chocolate business. I'm a one woman shop. So far I've sold mostly on Etsy. But I'm about to be featured on the local news and need to get set up for local orders. I do not have a brick and mortar. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get set up successfully? I don't even know where to start. How do I make it easy for people to order and pick up? If I don't offer delivery is that a deal breaker do you think? Can I just offer pickup in any old location I feel like it? (My house is not an option.) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2021 04:52 PM PDT On the off-chance your business gets prominence/hyper-successful, how do you keep your personal life/info private? I am okay with wealth—not "popularity." Fame seems a bad/dangerous thing in today's world. [link] [comments] |
Considering virtual office, how does physical business verification work? Posted: 01 Oct 2021 04:12 PM PDT Hello, I have a service business run out of home for now. Everything is online and doesn't need physical office , factory warehouse etc. In order to have better impression as a serious business, I was exploring getting a virtual office in a well know commercial space. Cost is also affordable, less than $100 a month. My question: Some of my clients required physical verification of business by visiting my home ( and seeing how I protect confidential data etc.) Another one was HireRight that I use for doing background check on subcontractors. How does this physical business verification work when my primary registered office will be a virtual office ? I can rent out a proper office in the virtual office when needed but does that seem acceptable ? Has anyone have experience around this ? [link] [comments] |

Best place to find new suppliers to send request for quotes Posted: 01 Oct 2021 01:43 PM PDT Hi there, my family owns a small metal shop and we are looking for new suppliers (aluminum extruder specifically). It has been a challenge to find new suppliers to say the least, so got me thinking... I wanted to ask the community here if there is any resource online where I can easily find & connect with a list of suppliers in a given category (ours is materials suppliers)? Or do I need to go one by one via google search? Thank you for the help! [link] [comments] |
Advice for starting a lawn cutting business. Posted: 01 Oct 2021 11:35 AM PDT Hey guys. I am 14 and wanted to start a business so I could go to college without debt. However I don't know where to start, I have a lawn mower/weed-eater available to me and $30 in savings as of now. I already know about doing a good job and all that so I was looking for some more detailed advice as I don't want to make any mistakes while starting this business. Also I can't work during summers because I visit my dad then (long story) [link] [comments] |
Transferring personal assets to business Posted: 01 Oct 2021 02:37 PM PDT I'm turning a hobby into a business and will be using tools and equipment I've personally acquired over the last few years. What would be the proper way to transfer ownership to my llc? I mainly ask so that I can offset some of my business income by purchasing my personally purchase equipment. My cpa warns me against this as it could be a red flag, but my friends who own businesses all said they've done similar things when they started out. What's the "proper" way to do this? Advice needed on quick books payroll and start up Posted: 01 Oct 2021 12:20 PM PDT Hey all, I'm a small business LLC taxed as an scorp. I work providing behavioral health care services through insurance companies. I decided to go independent instead of working for a job (I got no sick pay benefits and environment was toxic). While financially it's clearly the best choice I'm realizing how stressful the process is. I thought since it's just a one person business (me) things would be more simple. I'm thinking of using quickbooks to help out with the accounting portion of things but even that seems so complicated. Does anyone have any advice on how to make this process less overwhelming? Does it get easier? Is quickbooks a good resource? Advice is more than welcome. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2021 02:14 PM PDT Hey y'all any ideas for a good business name for a company that provides organic gardening solutions and designs? Examples of services: compost tea, living walls, planter box designs, raised garden beds Thank you! :) [link] [comments] |
What type of businesses regularly need large and/or irregular sized stuff shipped? Posted: 01 Oct 2021 01:55 PM PDT We recently inherited a 14' box truck in really good condition and my husband is a veteran with driving, logistics, freight, shipping, etc experience so we want to start making money with the truck however we can. We figure we will do moving and junk removal, but we would also like to get in with business owners who may have the need for such services. When you get shipping from those bid sites you just kind of get random people, we are hoping folks who use shipping services regularly might appreciate having someone reliable and competent who is competitivly priced.
