When is it okay, to mention bad employer as reason for leaving Posted: 30 Oct 2021 08:16 AM PDT I work closely with a distributor of ours and interviewing with them Monday for an executive position. They will ask why I'm wanting to leave. They are aware of big issues with my company. As a current sales executive, the buck stops with me., so I can't blame the company for issues and it's obviously a big no, to disparage your company in interview anyway. But, the truth is my hands are tied by a shitty ceo, who puts a stop to all the ideas I have that could fix issues and make us a better supplier to this and other distributors. I know our ceo will put all the blame on me if I'm gone, as he's done this with all others who left (90% turnover in just 2 years) Ideas for addressing this question? [link] [comments] |
BDR offer from Splunk, Palo Alto Networks or Oracle? Posted: 30 Oct 2021 07:47 AM PDT The pays are all about the same at 70-75k OTE. Which would you guys accept? If anyone has any experience BDR'ing at any of the following I'd love to hear your insight. Thanks in advance guys. [link] [comments] |
Can you recommend anything for my dad? Posted: 30 Oct 2021 07:01 AM PDT My dad has been in sales for 20ish years. He's 57 now and for the last 10 years has been selling home security systems in Virginia. He also has plenty of marketing experience. His company was bought out recently and there is a lot of hush about if he will still have a job. He's been wanting to move to Florida for a long time so he's been applying to places down there. (All home security) He's doesn't learn new technology very well, so has declined my ideas to try to land something like a BDR or CSM role. An SDR role might be too hard on him. I've recommended he try solar sales? Any other ideas you can think of I can push him toward? He raised two kids as a single dad and just has always "gotten by." I'd love to see him thrive for a while and just retire. Thanks for any advice! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Oct 2021 06:41 AM PDT Employee size 500+ I'm trying to get away from leaning on trials because they drag out the cycle so I'm taking a more deliberately slow approach. One account I'm working on we've done the discovery and then I engaged my VP of solutions engineering to cover the technical validations on a follow up call. Now we're at the stage where we're setting up the POC. Curious to get the thoughts of people on here on what general best practices are that you follow? How do you frame expectations to speed up establishing success criteria? Note: our ACV is around 50K. Our quickest sales cycle has been 18 days but some deals can stretch over a year depending on the use case. The quickest close came from an inbound. [link] [comments] |
What is a well recommended and widely recognized online sales course? Posted: 30 Oct 2021 07:00 AM PDT As the title says. I am looking to expand my sales knowledge and would like to undertake a sales course online that is recognized by alot the majority of large sales companies. Any ideas? Could be a free or paid course. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Oct 2021 12:11 PM PDT To be clear after lots of Doctor visits I got my medical issues under control. Then I felt very determined to improve my life. Feel free to ask me anything . Hope I'm not coming off as self-centered/braggy, what I'd like to do is inspire someone else to improve their situation, whether it's WFH you're after or a big pay increase, right now is essentially a better time than ever to look for something better for yourself I applied to about 200 SaaS companies on LinkedIn/zip recruiter/indeed (in order from which I used more), got interviews with 5 of them, got to the final round with 2 of them got a solid offer from one. LinkedIn (and zip recruiter/indeed do this too I think) makes the application process easy as hell if you don't already know When the company has the option 'easy apply' turned on in linkedin, the application process takes about 30 seconds. The job that actually gave me an offer was one of the small handful I applied to on Ziprecruiter, but all other interviews came from LinkedIn, fwiw I am 29 and do have a background in bartending and a B.S. in IT but that experience is about 4 years old. Feel free to ask questions, or if you are SaaS experienced and want to give advice to someone starting out in a closing role that would be appreciated also [link] [comments] |
Being a salesperson in life sciences.... where can you find the highest commission? Posted: 30 Oct 2021 06:20 AM PDT Hello lovely salespeople. I am interested to know which segments of life sciences you can get the highest commissions? In my first job (selling sequencing service), the commission was only 2%, in the second job (selling reagents) I get 10% of what I sell. I'd love to know what is the typical range for this industry? Where can you find the highest commissions? selling reagents/consumables, medical devices, automation robots? Thank you so much! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Oct 2021 08:27 AM PDT Role is Account Executive, for six months I train with an AE helping with his clients. I'm on a base salary that will go to commission once my book exceeds the base(45k). [link] [comments] |
Unicorn company or fortune 100 company? Posted: 30 Oct 2021 12:51 AM PDT I am in the final rounds for BDR positions at unicorn startups and fortune 100 companies. The industries are both lucrative tech industries. Some of the startups actually have larger salaries with stock options over the fortune 100 companies. Is the brand name worth it as a BDR? My goal is to get to AE as fast as possible and sell to enterprises to maximize my income. I'm a senior in college with sales experience. [link] [comments] |

Suggestions for interview roleplay Posted: 30 Oct 2021 07:45 AM PDT Roleplay interview Monday - I've got a lot of sales experience with non profits and I'm trying to make the jump to SaaS. Some of my skills apply but I can tell I have long way to go. I've started to get interviews after working on my resume. I've had 3-4 role plays so far but I didn't do well enough to get an offer. I'm learning from each and keep trying. The one coming up, here's the scenario: I'm running a meeting with 2 execs. They own 400 licenses of our flow charting product at $150 per. List price is $199. Companion product I'm selling is also $199, they own 40 of those. They have 4800 employees. Company is a video platform and needs more tools to work remotely and collaborate, and coming out with more ZAPPS integrations this year. Any suggestions on the types of questions to ask, and specifically what price proposal to put together? Thanks in advance!! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Oct 2021 06:38 AM PDT I recently started what could be considered a sales engineer role. In short, we sell professional and construction services to evaluate, restore, and maintain physical assets. I am teamed with a BDR, and we are in the middle of opening a new territory. I am typically brought in to answer technical questions during the sales process, and perform the engineering work after sales are made. For those of you working in similar roles, what do you wish your technical team could know, or do more of? Have never worked in this capacity before, and want to get the relationship with my sales team off on the right foot. [link] [comments] |

Cold Calling: Power-Based Openers or Yield the Power to the Prospect? Posted: 29 Oct 2021 09:26 PM PDT So I started working at a tech VAR as an AE a little less than a year ago, and my cold calling strategy has switched quite a bit. This is my first job doing any sort of cold calling, and I graduated from the "how are you doing today?" and "did I catch you at a good time?" openers to better ones pretty quickly, but there's still room for improvement. One somewhat philosophical discussion that I see a lot is between power-based openers and openers that yield power to the prospect. Here are some examples. Power-Based Opener: "Hey John, this is Jack with XYZ company. I know you weren't expecting me to call today, but I'm looking to talk to you about X as it relates to Y." Power-Based Opener (more extreme): "Hey John, this is Jack with XYZ company. I only have a minute, but I'm looking to talk to you about X as it relates to Y." Versus openers that yield power to the prospect (which seem to be more popular in mid-market and enterprise spaces rather than SMB). Yield-Power Opener: "Hey John, this is Jack with XYZ company. I know you weren't expecting me to call today, but would it be ok with you to take a minute to tell you why I called?" Yield-Power Opener (more extreme): "Hey John, this is Jack with XYZ company. I know you weren't expecting me to call today, but if it's ok with you, I'd like to take a minute to tell you why I called, and then you can let me know if it makes sense for us to speak?" After I switched from the really bad openers I mentioned before, I started using the 1st Power-Based opener listed here. This works fairly well, but after thinking about it more, it sounds awfully salesy to jump right into the pitch like that. I suppose the point is that it puts you in a position of power rather than being courteous. So maybe I'm overthinking this, but I'm thinking now that taking a yield-power opener would be better. It shows clients that you respect their time, and gives you a chance to get permission before fully explaining why you're calling (i.e. gives you permission to go a little pitch heavy instead of just doing it right out of the gate). What do you think? [link] [comments] |
10 years sales experience - but always moving laterally Posted: 29 Oct 2021 02:03 PM PDT Hey Muchachos, So I have 10 years experience in sales - I've sold inbound and outbound on the phone - cold calls, retentions, AE, SDR - ALL the low level stuff and mostly freelance remote I want to stay remote and take advantage of more positions opening up now that remote is the norm but really struggling to move past 40k + OTE/Com How do I stay virtual and hit 60k? Posted: 29 Oct 2021 10:47 PM PDT this has been floating around a LOT on linkedin in the sales world not sure if it's entirely the right choice though the thingis... a facetime requires some level of consent, right? i mean, it's a pretty intimate form of communication; face to face on someone else's phone we always talk about pattern interrupts - and this is a major MAJOR interrupt but I've heard mixed reviews from those who have done it some people are absolutely turned off - and some people are (surprisingly) open to chat but if everyone starts cold facetiming, it's no longer a pattern interrupt i prefer phone calls (and have a script that works a lot better than a cold facetime -feel free to dm) a cold facetime still feels a bit "icky" would you cold facetime a prospect? why or why not? Posted: 30 Oct 2021 12:29 AM PDT I made my first quarter million and got greedy and cashed out on a bad product trying to cut corners and set myself back half a year. I would like to hear stories of any of your great losses throughout your career . I am 25 years old so this has been an expensive but valuable lesson to me . [link] [comments] |
