Looking to do a small interview(text only) with a small business owner for a school project. Posted: 30 Oct 2021 10:34 AM PDT I don't know any small business owners but I need to interview a small business owner for my school project. It would be entirely through text, I'll provide around ten to fifteen questions for you to answer. Appreciate anyone willing to do this, but I only need one person. Thanks in advance. Posted before but no one helped, hopefully someone can this time. [link] [comments] |
7k to invest in getting a passive income stream off the ground. Posted: 29 Oct 2021 09:27 PM PDT Hey all, I know there's been threads like this in the past but things change so I hope it's ok if I start the conversation again. The question here is if you had USD$7k and almost unlimited time outside your regular boring 9-5 what would you spend your time and money on to get a passive income stream going? Thanks everyone! I’m learning how to SILENCE my mind like Bruce Lee Posted: 30 Oct 2021 10:07 AM PDT The mind can be truly chaotic. Thoughts, concerns and anxieties keep popping up regularly. This can sometimes get a little consuming and hinder our daily productivity and output. I've been practicing mindfulness for a little while now and discovered concepts like having a "Thought mirror' and "Dropping in". These are excellent ideas when we're trying find stillness and peace within. It's all about emptying your mind, or as Bruce Lee says "Your mind is like water. It's formless." I explain these concepts and discuss how I'm learning to empty my mind here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xJsTUbBizo For me, this is all about increasing how productive I am and focusing on the things that really matter. Hope this helps. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Oct 2021 10:45 PM PDT We learn lots of things in school, but one thing we don't necessarily learn is entrepreneurship. So let's start a thread on the best entrepreneurship advice you've ever gotten. Here's a list of mine: 1. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. 2. Hire people who are smarter than you. 3. Your network is your net worth. [link] [comments] |
Which came first, the validation or mvp/prototype? Posted: 30 Oct 2021 05:59 AM PDT Classic conundrum, if validation how much do you need? A sign up? Site traffic? [link] [comments] |

What are the skills that billionaires have, and most of the others don't? Posted: 30 Oct 2021 12:49 PM PDT For some reason I feel like anyone from the top of Forbes, given he's 18 now and has a second life with all these skills and a penny in a pocket, will probably make it again. I believe it's about skillset. What are those? [link] [comments] |
I reached a milestone with my newsletter business. Now I would like to monetize but I don't know how Posted: 30 Oct 2021 01:45 AM PDT Hi everyone! After three months of hard work, my newsletter reached 1000 subscribers. Me and my co-founder reached this milestone a lot earlier than we dared to hope for at the beginning. Obviously, we're very happy about that. It was our plan from the beginning to start monetizing at 1000 subs. The thing is, we're not really sure how excatly we should monetize. Some background What we do is to conduct research in online communities and find problems that people are talking about. We collect the ones that show up most frequently and seem the most relevant. We describe the problems and then propose potential business solutions. From next week on, we're adding a completely new format: competitor analysis reports. The idea behind this format is to go one step further than problem discovery and business ideas. We want to provide our readers with everything they need to know about competitors and the market so they can go ahead and build something that is... a) better than what the competitors do, or b) a niche that hasn't been occupied so far. How to monetize? In our minds, it would make sense to monetize these competitor reports because they will be really useful to those who consider building something for the related market. But there are other options too. For example, we could put every second edition of our weekly newsletter behind a paywall. Or we give some information in every edition for free, while only paid subscribers can see the whole newsletter. Or we monetize the whole thing (which we don't really consider). These are just a few ideas. What would you guys suggest? Is our problem discovery and business ideas and/or our competitor research report something that you believe is monetizable at all? If yes, how? Thanks so much in advance! Here is our newsletter Community Validated for reference. Cheers [link] [comments] |
Rockerfeller Habits 2.0 and Scaling? Posted: 30 Oct 2021 12:50 PM PDT Hey Everyone! So I just started working through "Scaling Up" by Verne Harnish, and I'm noticing that the book seems more geared towards growth companies. I had listened to it on Audible and felt like it solved a lot of our challenges so I bought the physical copy to work through, but a bit more about us first. Our company is a 2 1/2 years old dev agency, profitable, +$1mm revenue, with 85 SPAC based team members. We're using Gino Wickman's Entrepreneurial Operating System as the current business framework. Still have room to improve, mostly on the data and measurables side, but overall, we're 6xing year over year since we launched officially in 2019. My question is, are we too early for Rockerfeller Habits? Can we run both EOS and RH together? From what I've been told, EOS was derived from the original RH, so I would think they would compliment each other well. I'm looking to get us to 10x next year and wanted to see if anyone had a similar trajectory to ours and what they did from a business systems' implementation standpoint, to grow quickly to year 5 and beyond. Unfortunately, there aren't too many people in my network who have scaled quite as fast as we have. Also, I'm wanting some validation before I go through the effort of running through "Scaling Up" in detail. Thanks all! [link] [comments] |
If you created and monetized an API, what does it do? Posted: 30 Oct 2021 12:46 PM PDT I am a backend software engineer and I enjoy writing APIs for my job. However, every API I have written was for a platform that included a front end client and the API itself did not make sense without the platform. I'd like to build and monetize an API but I can't think of ideas that aren't trivial and already implemented (e.g., weather, restaurants, etc.) so I am soliciting this sub for inspiration. If you created and monetized an API, what does it do, and how did you think of it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Oct 2021 02:24 PM PDT I forget the dude's username...this was quite a few years ago since I've been active in this sub and I just wondered if he's still around and how his business is doing. He used to post How To videos on YouTube. [link] [comments] |
Is marketing to small businesses the easiest way to make money? Posted: 30 Oct 2021 02:11 PM PDT Title. I mean really let's think about it. This is my current thought on this: Who is most primed to spend money? People that want to make money. People spend 50k on a college degree because they want to make more money, it's an investment. And think about someone who is trying to escape their 9-5 and be a successful business owner/freelancer. I'm sure we've all been there. You try to start a business so you buy a course on something. Not a get rich quick course, but a course on something like Web Design, Marketing, Sales. Something like that. So maybe that could be the best way to market something? Make a product designed to help small businesses or aspiring freelancers make more money. Like a scheduling app, or a way to find leads easier/faster. Or a course on how to dress to be more respected or something. idk. Am I dumb on this? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Oct 2021 12:32 PM PDT My goal is to start my own business, not entirely sure yet (Junior in High school) but I wanted to make sure since I'm going to college 100% I don't want to make my degree useless, at least somewhat beneficial to my future and that will help me become successful. My thoughts were either Accounting or Computer Science. I don't think my business will be IT related that's one thing I will say, I really like cooking so many a restaurant? But in terms of majors I'm not sure, do I just go for a major that's a good plan B. For money? Or do I go for a business major to learn how to manage my business? Any help from people who have experience? By the way, I'm going to college I have to and I asked my Mother already and she said to do what I thought was good, she does not have that much experience with this type of stuff. Posted: 30 Oct 2021 05:10 AM PDT I might have gotten ambitious but for our business management class we need to make a start-up and we thought of creating figurines for new aspiring authors. Basically we'll try to help them grow their book or story by creating figurines of the characters in their stories. And I've done my research, I can create a figurine with any of these materials PVC&ABS, polymer clay, Vinyl, Resin and Polystone. But I'm wondering if I can just 3D print it, to be honest creating 3d designs isn't the problem for me. It's how do I make said figurines, since I don't really know much in that area and I have little cash. Any advice? (I guess a part of me is dead set in doing this since I just really wanna do it. Like I can't explain why but I just wanna) [link] [comments] |

Need a low-maintenance retail business idea so I can get access to wholesale conventions Posted: 30 Oct 2021 09:59 AM PDT I need help with an unusual situation. I want to be able to get into brick and mortar wholesale markets but the only way you can get approved to enter is to show that you have some sort of retail business. You must show receipts etc for your membership to be approved. I want access to buy nice furnishings for my house and clothing that's only available inside the wholesale place, so this is really something to support my lifestyle and just be a fun thing to do on the side. I have a few domain names that are gathering dust and thought I'd start with trying to do something with them. Any advice on how to get started? EDIT: I do have a great domain and idea for a woman-focused online store but I have no idea how to get started and the marketing part is intimidating. Any advice with that would be appreciated too! Posted: 29 Oct 2021 05:09 PM PDT Hi I've been working on a prototype to start my path on creating my own business, and I've learned I have a new competitor that just acquired another competitor in my market. I've done plenty of article reading, podcast listening, and video watching and they are all saying somewhat similar things like how beneficial it is to be the little guy. That's mainly due to the speed at which a little company can pivot and operate. They also mentioned that it would be wise to partner with like minded people. So I'm wondering what's your guy's thought on this. If it's a good idea how do most people find their partners and what do you look for personality wise? [link] [comments] |
Seeking advice on what to do/invest in/start-up with a reasonably large piece of capital. Posted: 30 Oct 2021 03:50 AM PDT Short backstory: I grew up working in my father's restaurants. When I was 25 I decided to change paths and went into IT. A few jobs later I am an IT contractor and just got moved to Germany. My wife and I got lucky with timing and we sold our house right as the market was going crazy and we made a great profit on the sale. We are trying to find the best investment to put this capital into. I would like, someday, in the long run, to start my own contracting company, but I may need more time/capital to pursue that. If anyone has any ideas on what is a good investment/business or knows anything about contracting companies, please let me know. Thank you [link] [comments] |
How to create a website that has multiple log ins Posted: 30 Oct 2021 03:21 AM PDT I have been toying with the idea to create a website dedicated to services people can provide with crypto. Essentially a marketplace for people to offer their skills (like LinkedIn meets crypto). I want to make a website which allows 3 separate logins for: Clients - to see the services Users - to showcase their services Me - to monitor the site/place ads/KYC users etc. Does anyone know of a website building platform that would allow me to do something like this? I'd want the users to be able to input data (kind of like making a Facebook profile); most website builders I've seen are very basic and kind of relate to retail as opposed to different users being able to have log ins etc. I don't have the knowledge to build it myself, but if there's some kind of guidance/template on how to do it I'd be happy to figure it out [link] [comments] |
