Please use this thread to have discussions which you don't feel warrant a new post to the sub. While the Rules for posting questions on the basics of personal finance/investing topics are relaxed a little bit here, the rules against memes/spam/self-promotion/excessive rudeness/politics still apply!

Have a look at the FAQ for this subreddit before posting to see if your question is frequently asked.

Since this post does tend to get busy, consider sorting the comments by "new" (instead of "best" or "top") to see the newest posts.

Best financial independence advice you've ever received?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 10:01 PM PDT

Learning how to be financially independent is so important, but we don't learn that in school.

So let's start a thread of the best financial independence advice you've ever received.

Here's a list of mine: 1. Pay yourself first. 2. The first $100k is the hardest. 3. Compound interest is the 8th wonder of the world. 4. Take asymmetrical risks. 5. A healthy man wants a thousand things, a sick man only wants one.

FIRE/PF Conferences: Is anyone going to EconoMe in a couple of weeks? Or any other conferences in the coming year?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 06:19 PM PDT

I'm curious what sort of events people are planning on going to. I'm attending EconoMe in a couple of weeks (hit me up if you're going!) and have attended FinCon in the past. They're all pretty great experiences.

What conferences/meetups are you attending next year, or ones that you HAVE attended in the past that were worthwhile?
