Wednesday is the day!!!!! DEBT FREE BY 30!!!! Posted: 11 Sep 2021 06:49 PM PDT Wednesday, September 15th, I will be able to pay off my student loans FULLY! $40k student loan debt in 13 months!!!! I am so excited to the point of tears. I initially started the goal of "Debt free by 30" and I tried my hardest to keep that promise to myself. I'm 29 (I'll be 30 in March) and I'll have been out of undergrad for 6 years in December. I'm so relieved that I don't have that lingering over my head soon anymore! I am curious: Once you all paid your student loans off, what was the first thing that you purchased yourself as a "Congratulations" gift? Did you purchase yourself anything? [link] [comments] |
Just a rant about how the system is rigged! Posted: 11 Sep 2021 10:41 AM PDT I finally paid off my loans, yay!!! I knew it would happen but 2 of the 4 have closed out on my credit score, it dropped 8 points. I assume when the other 2 are closed out it will drop some more. What a crock! [link] [comments] |
Stuck in a situation with no way out Posted: 11 Sep 2021 06:42 PM PDT I am international student. I took out a private loan to cover the first year of my college. Now my co signer has refused to cosign a loan for my sophomore year. I asked my school for more financial aid but they denied me. Now I can't go back to my home country or drop out of college because the repayments on my private loans will start and I have no money to pay back anything at the moment and I don't want to cause problems for my cosigner. I have made a really big mistake taking out loan in US and I regret it. Now I don't know what to do. I have tried looking at companies like Mpower but you need to graduate in two years to qualify for that and I am just starting my sophomore year. There are no options to take out a loan in my home country. I have literally exhausted all my options at this point. I need some advice how to deal with this situation. Any kind of help will be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
[Advice] Made a late payment and kinda freaking out. Posted: 11 Sep 2021 01:26 PM PDT I'm on the Income Driven Repayment plan with Navient. My payment history is fantastic, never late, but this week I made my payment a day late (due yesterday, paid today). I'm wanting to know if a late payment on the IDR plan could cause me to lose the IDR? OR is this not even a big deal and would be treated as any other late payment on a credit account? Thanks in advance, and let me know if more information is needed. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Sep 2021 10:36 PM PDT Has anybody ever gotten an interest free loan from Magbit foundation in LA? There is a 10% interest penalty for late payments that I didn't hear about for months of planning with them. Is this normal? What have peoples experience been and if it's bad does anyone know of more interest free loan companies that are possibly more forgiving? Thank you and I wish everybody the best of luck and success in their academics/careers/payments [link] [comments] |
Looking to refinance private loans from abroad in the near future Posted: 11 Sep 2021 10:06 PM PDT Hi everyone. I'm looking to start a career in Scotland after grad school and one of the ways I plan to afford this move is refinancing my Sallie Mae loan. I will use my parents household as a US address and I have a US bank account. What I'm really wondering is who are the best lenders to pull this off? I would love to hear from folks who have done this successfully before. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Student Loan for a Fully-funded PhD Student? Posted: 11 Sep 2021 04:04 PM PDT Hey reddit, I am a new graduate student, studying for a PhD. I'm a first generation graduate student in a new state and don't really have a cushion here, financially. I don't really have savings anymore either, as I'll explain. My university did not give me funds for moving, and I was not working in my field prior to coming to graduate school, post graduation from my undergrad. Hence, I was making 12$/hr, and saved what I could, which helped me move, but I literally have no furniture and it's a little bit stressful, and it's not like graduate programs in high CoL areas really pay you enough to really save much. As a fully funded graduate student (tuition, fees, etc.), my university's financial aid has told me they are unable to offer me any loans at all, that are federal. Honestly I'm not really sure about that either(?), the language is very ambiguous, and I'm having trouble identifying if it would seem that they CAN'T give me any loans, or that they would rather their graduate students do not take out loans? Besides the point, if I can't get a couple to a few thousand dollars in a one-time payment for furniture, like a bed or something to establish a baseline, from federal loans with my school, should I be able to get it from a private student loan agency, like Sallie Mae? Given the fact that my tuition and fees are paid and I receive a stipend? I don't want to jump and be too eager here, but I don't exactly need financial advice. Many folks in my department graduate making close to 6 figures, with pretty highly sought after skills, even if they master out along the way. I figure getting out of undergrad without loans and taking out a few grand for grad school isn't likely to financially ruin me. Especially if it will make sure I actually have a place to sit down in my home, lol. So I pretty much just need advice on who to contact as a broke grad student to get money for a student loan, preferably, because I can defer that while I'm still in school. Any advice is appreciated. Posted: 11 Sep 2021 09:54 PM PDT So I completely funded my first year of my university's program myself. I got my fed loans, and was approved for $50k with Salliemae, not the best choice but I went with it. I needed the full cost of attendance amount as I live on my own and had to go part time at my job due to the program's full time agenda. I was approved without a cosigner, my creditworthiness was adequate enough to be approved. I only need to borrow just one more year as my program is only 2 years and I'll be graduating with my bachelor's. What are the chances I'll be approved again for let's say maybe $40k this time around? I've found NO information about borrowing more than one year without a cosigner. I only need just one more year! I graduate 2023! I was wondering if anyone has been approved for more than one year from any lender without a cosigner and how this is done with existing student loans on your report now? My school is pretty damn expensive, but thank goodness it's only 2 years. [link] [comments] |
Can't log in to Navient (again) Posted: 11 Sep 2021 09:08 AM PDT I've reset my password about 10 times today. I tried calling their "customer support" line and it's just an automated response offering to reset my password or username, which (shocker) doesn't work. They sent me an email saying my IDR is being cancelled and now I can't even view any of the information. Does anyone know how I can contact an actual person? I've been trying to log in for two days now and I keep getting error messages. [link] [comments] |
Paying off loans before Fedloan contract ends? Posted: 11 Sep 2021 08:19 PM PDT I know there are some borrowers who have the full balance of their loans on hand and are waiting for the forbearance to end to make the lump-sum payment, I feel very fortunate to count myself among them. My loans are all with Fedloan. I know that Fedloan's contract ends on Dec 14, and that the pandemic forbearance ends on Jan 31. I am considering just paying my loans off at the end of November to avoid dealing with the transfer to another servicer. In doing so I'll be missing out on 2 months of 0% interest, so I'm aware this isn't the logical or mathematically correct choice, but it feels like it could save me from a potential headache. Anyone else considering doing the same? Has anyone had loans transferred between servicers before, and if so, was it a pretty seamless transition? [link] [comments] |
Pay now or wait advice: the Biden chronicles Posted: 11 Sep 2021 04:38 PM PDT I currently owe 19k in federal loans from undergrad. I'm working a 20/hr job (rare in my field of wildlife biology), and have saved up 11k, and have predicted I could easily save 2k a month through the end of March (when my current job ends). I'm itching to pay these loans off while I have disposable income. Should I: 1) pay them off until 10k while saving all my overhead, and wait to see if Biden extends forbearance or cancels 10k in all federal student loan borrowers. 2) save everything and wait until the end of January to see what Biden does. If nothing then pay off as much as I've saved. 3) any other suggestion I know this is all speculation, but I want to know you all opinions and would be thankful for good advice. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Sep 2021 01:12 PM PDT I have been in school literally 1 day shy of 3weeks. I was withdrawn by director who was basically flexing on her power and retailiaton for me going to regional director on issues that the school refuse to address. ANYWAY Getting back on topic I go on my online account and see that my 1st check has a disbursement date of 8/27. But the school admin still had not given me the check. Now that i have been withdrawn my question is does the school have reason to take that payment or are they requried to send it back. [link] [comments] |
