    Accounting SALY?

    Accounting SALY?

    SALY?

The public accounting brainwash guilt shaming is legit, I am convinced everyone senior manager and up at Big 4 is in a cult

    Posted: 11 Sep 2021 09:51 AM PDT

They pay all the seniors and staff like dog shit, they do all the work PERFECT for them, and then all they'll say is "we need more samples, but I'm not doing that work, you're doing it". This industry stinks and the pay is even worse. Anybody who disagrees is flat out wrong or also brainwashed themselves. No in between. I just don't get why finance jobs even without a CFA pays more, while we have to go through a rigorous cpa and still get paid less. Absolute BS

Why do ppl hate their office jobs so much?

    Posted: 11 Sep 2021 11:33 AM PDT

    All jobs suck-
    Police officer-deal with criminals
    Teacher-deal with kids/general public
    Service jobs-deal with general public
    Nurse-deal with chit, piss etc.
    Tradie-have to do physical work/labor
    Sales person-have to sell chit
Personal trainer- get paid only if you have clients.
Small bus owners-some good years , some bad years (remember covid?)
The only better jobs are actually doctor, P.T or P,A, but those are difficult to become because you need high grades(like be top 20% in science/math courses, which already have above IQ people), loads of volunteering etc. And even then those jobs involve dealing with patients and the general population as well.
No such thing as a perfect job. Office jobs are often the best option, especially if you get to work from home (as I do as an accountant)

    Big4 - Sabbaticals??

    Posted: 11 Sep 2021 10:04 AM PDT

How common is taking a career sabbatical in big4? Meaning do the big 4 allow professionals to take a career break (2-12 week long unpaid breaks) and come back to their careers (same title/salary)?

EDIT: not for the purpose of studying for the CPA exam - but to live life/do anything you want with your time off

[CAN] How to stop normalizing failure in CFE?

    Posted: 11 Sep 2021 06:10 PM PDT

Will be writing the CFE in two days and I can't stop normalizing failure. I had 3 weeks off and had work late in the evenings so I only really started studying when I had time off. I've revised the technical and attempted the cases, but nowhere sufficiently to pass this exam. I've never been a fantastic accountant and to be writing alongside people who are (a) more skilled (b) committed more time just demoralizes me. My mind keeps convincing me that should just give in and wait till next year when I have had more time to actually do more cases and connect the dots in my head.

    Flexible Accounting Jobs

    Posted: 11 Sep 2021 06:29 PM PDT

Are there any flexible accounting-related jobs out there? I'd like to work 7/8am to 3/4pm to have a life outside of work while still growing and learning. Even better, a job that is 30 hours a week with benefits although that seems unheard of. I have a year of experience in the Big 4 and at a public company in industry but I haven't taken the CPA yet. My goal is to do this as soon as possible although I'm more worried about just being able to do a job right with or without the CPA.

Better to get fired or resign at the big 4?

    Posted: 11 Sep 2021 06:03 PM PDT

Hi everyone, so I've been on the performance plan since July 2021. I didn't know that I was bound to get fired until august 2021 after when I joined Reddit and read some post about it on here. I started my job hunt middle of august and has been going well. So in about 2 weeks I have a meeting with the partner of my team. Only her. No HR. I think she'll be telling me that I'm being terminated. I've never talked to her one on one before so I'm assuming it's that. Also, I'm sure you've all heard this a million times but big 4 is not for everyone. I have 1 year of tax experience and want to get out of tax/public accounting and get into general accounting. Do you guys think I should resign a day before the meeting or wait till I get fired? Which is better to to?What are the pros and cons of getting fired? Will it affect my future employment? Also, getting a job lined up in 2-3 weeks seems tough as I'm looking to get out of public accounting! What do you guys suggest!

    Are Accountants paid hourly?

    Posted: 11 Sep 2021 08:35 PM PDT

Do Accountants get paid hourly or salaried? If hourly, then how does that work during tax season for example? Do all those >40 hour work weeks equal time and a half? If salaried, does it matter how much they work? Thanks! Also, how common/often do Accountants get raises?
